Education › Re: Opinion: These 20 Courses Should Be Scraped From Our Universities by BodePolScience: 11:27am On Jul 19, 2015 |
micronut: MY TAKE
Op is a short sighted fellow, funny and worst courses are in advance countries.. Why do you think there is "African study" in Cambridge?? Why are they offering French and other language in US schools? Cos every small thing matters to them over there. The truth is that most of the courses we have in Nigeria have no relevancy to our Labour market, that is why a graduate that studied a course for four years, would be asking where he or she can work.
Many of those courses were introduced when Nigeria was still great, courses like Print Technology (Gone are the days of Academic press and many other paper mills like one in Erin ile, kwara state). These structures are now abode for rodents and games.
Polymer Engineering , Agronomy ( When Agriculture was still the hallmark of our national Economy), Industrial and Textile Engineering, Paint and Glass Technology (History had it that Kaduna alone has nothing less than 50 textile factories then couple with many others in places like Ado-Ekiti), this industry absorb the graduates of the aforementioned courses as their manpower, Metalugry and Material science (most of our steel rolling mills are now moribund and in comatose)..
Having said all that, This does not warrant this scrapping of this courses cos only a short sighted country would do that, because a visioneer plans for where he or she is going and not where he or she is, presently.
Many graduates of Agricultural courses like Animal Health and Husbandry, fishery among many others are even ashamed to explore the world of agriculture, you find them looking for jobs in banks, attending management trainee programmes in FMCG, in Auditing companies and the likes, thereby dumping what they went to study for five years!
Many that studied Computer science are not ready to think and be gainfully employed, Graduates of Arts are now getting competition from even products of Law and many allied courses for the lofty Entertainment Industry.
Now most graduates now focused on Entertainment, Joining forces like Army, NSCDC, Immigration, Police without the love of the job, Saturated Industries like Banking, oil and gas, Auditing coy like KPMG, PWC et al. Nothing like Hospitality and Tourism Industry, Even few are Looking at ICT, Agricultural sector has been totally Abandoned.
Until Every graduate, sit down and think that what we study in school does not matter but what we bring out of it and how we can find something meaningful out there to engage in, we may continue to grumble for a long time. well said Sir, |

kay1one2: Philippians 3:12-16 NIV
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have already attained.
why do you relate this to the subject matter of sin? can't you relate it to the subject matter of evangelism and soul winning? 'he that is born of God sinneth not' |
Christianity Etc › Re: Worrying Is A Sin. by BodePolScience: 7:33pm On Apr 22, 2015 |
uchkochi: WORRYING IS A SIN.
Beloved we live in a world that is worry driven, people worry about jobs, businesses, money, children, spouses, marriages, missing things, progress. This world has the potential of making you to worry even in the most happiest situation. Worries don't end, you cannot afford to lose your joy because of it.
The bible says in Philippians 4:6; that you should be anxious or worry over nothing... God is very much aware that that in this world worries will come that was why He said we should worry over nothing. John 16:33.
Naturally and spiritually; things become better when you are not anxious. If you are thinking so much on a thing that you need it may not come, but the moment you remove your mind from it, it shows up most of the time when you least expected it to. This is the law of faith at work. Isaiah 28:16. Those issues that are bothering you may keep bothering you if you keep thinking about them. Think of the word of God instead. All you need is rest of mind and peace of heart for that expectation to manifest. The devil is not responsible for the delay most of the time, worries and anxiety causes delays most of the time. Anxiety is most times confused for expectation. God is committed to bringing your expectations to pass and not your anxieties. Anxieties or worries will delay the manifestation of your expectations, it is on when you stop allowing your heart to be troubled over that issue that it will come to pass. Make up your mind not to be moved whether it happens or not, and you will see it happen. Today your expectations shall not be cut off as you let worries go and let faith come. Give thanks to God because this message will produce positive results in your life today. Be blessed in Jesus name. Thanks for this expository teachings. |

Self-confidence towards the things of God for example righteousness is wrong , we need to ask for God's grace. 'for by strength shall no man prevails' 'for the spirit quickenth, the flesh profiteth nothing'. 'abide in me.... without me, you can do nothing' 'now unto him that is able to keep you from falling' 'and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil' Our confidences should be directed towards God/our confidences should be hinged on obedience to God's words. Jesus said God has always been with him because he does things that please him. '... him that will glory, let him glory only in the Lord'
Prayer must be void of distraction. If you have the opportunity of choosing, choose privacy.
One of the inexhaustible verses of the scripture is Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
You don't use sword or force in the name of religion. You don't retaliate.
Indeed, the arms of flesh fails |

sobmos: The Federal minister is superior. He earns more than the Governor in terms of their salary. But the Governor is only all powerful in his own state. He has little control over the CP of police and has almighty power,on all the happenings in his state, not at federal level. So,to cut it short,a federal minister has power at the federal level and the Governor has power in his own state. The federal minister superior constitutional, because he earns more basic salary and allowance than the Governor. I think the basic salary of a governor is more than a minister. Constitutionally, ministers don't earn much. The total entitlements of a governor is enough to pay the salaries of 100 ministers. |

Christianity Etc › The 13 Virtues By Benjamin Franklin by BodePolScience(op): 11:04pm On Apr 16, 2015 |
Benjamin Franklin was one of the founding Fathers of the United States, a renowned polymath, he was a leading author, printer, political theorist , politician, postmaster, scientist, inventor, civic activist, statesman, and diplomat. As a scientist, he was a major figure in the American Enlightenment and the history of physics. Franklin was foundational in defining the American ethos as a marriage of the practical values of thrift, hard work, education, community spirit, self-governing institutions, and opposition to authoritarianism both political and religious, with the scientific and tolerant values of the Enlightenment. He came up with 13 VIRTUES which he tried to live with.
1. TEMPERANCE. Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation.
2. SILENCE. Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation.
3. ORDER. Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time.
4. RESOLUTION. Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve.
5. FRUGALITY. Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself; i.e., waste nothing.
6. INDUSTRY. Lose no time; be always employ’d in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions.
7. SINCERITY. Use no hurtful deceit; think innocently and justly, and, if you speak, speak accordingly.
8. JUSTICE. Wrong none by doing injuries, or omitting the benefits that are your duty.
9. MODERATION. Avoid extreams; forbear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve.
10. CLEANLINESS. Tolerate no uncleanliness in body, cloaths, or habitation.
11. TRANQUILLITY. Be not disturbed at trifles, or at accidents common or unavoidable.
12. CHASTITY. Rarely use venery but for health or offspring, never to dulness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another’s peace or reputation.
13. HUMILITY. Imitate Jesus and Socrates. |

Tallesty1: God helps the helpless! Isaiah 25:4 declares, "For You have been a defense for the helpless, a defense for the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat..." Romans 5:6 tells us, "For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly."
Jacob tried to bribe Easau but showed him that the work of his hands cannot get him anything. Easau refused his gifts Indeed, God helps the helpless or the incapacitated but the ungodly have to help himself by claiming the redemptive power and diligently obey the commandments. Also, God helps a student who study to pass an examination |
Christianity Etc › My Question On 'heaven Helps Those Who Help Themselves' by BodePolScience(op): 10:09am On Apr 13, 2015 |
The statement 'heaven helps those who help themselves' cannot be found anywhere in the bible but I do think the principle behind the statement is correct and biblical. For example, Jacob helped himself by trying to appease his brother(Esau) with gifts. Also, David helped himself by asking God weather he should chase those who plundered his properties including wives and we know the rest of the story. Paul admonishes the Christians to work with their own hands. Also, on the issue of salvation, Paul said we should work out our salvation... Though the statement is not in the bible, is the statement a godly or biblical principle? |

Christianity Etc › Re: The Messages Of Grace And Hellfire: Which Has Had More Impact In Recent Times? by BodePolScience: 10:14am On Apr 12, 2015 |
A very good and pertinent question
Well, message of grace has greater impact than hell. For me, message of hell doesn't really freak me at least for now. Message of grace tells me about God's plans and promises and that is enough for me.
Message of hell brings fear and 'fear cause torment' Is the world really about to come to and end? 'for nations shall rise against nations and kingdoms against kingdoms the kind which has never happened before' In other word, the tribulations that will precede the coming of Jesus Christ will be greater than 2nd world or any other world's disasters and I don't know think those kind of tribulations are already happening so msg of hell or end of the world doesn't really freak me.
Message of grace does it all for me. |
Christianity Etc › Matt 25:14-46 by BodePolScience(op): 10:49pm On Apr 11, 2015 |
God wants us to take risk and be enterprising, he wants us to be productive, he wants us to work for him.
Fear will not make us to be enterprising or be useful for God. Fear, slothfulness/laziness makes us to want to take the easy road. 'not slothful in business but fervent in spirit serving the Lord'
Not being productive is wickedness in the sight of God cos he has embedded or invested in us gifts and potentials, he wants return and wants us to bear fruit.
We lose potentials, gifts when we don't put them in use so we either diminish or increase. Hence, nothing is constant in this world except change and change means "not constant" It is either up or down, you either improve or depreciates.
All nations will gather before Christ for judgement. Are you a sheep(obedient) or a goat(stubborn)?
Anything that we do for the people of God, we have done it unto God. Hence, we should be more than ready to show hospitality for the people of God(pastors, brothers and sisters...) who are in need.
Originally, hell fire is not prepared for humans but for the devil and his angels but the devil ( the tempter, the adversary) and his angels won't want to go there alone and that's why 'he is roaring like a hungry lion seeking whom to devour' |
Christianity Etc › Matthew 19: 1-22 by BodePolScience(op): 9:43pm On Apr 09, 2015 |
Husband and wife are one. Divorce is not the will of God.
Being gay is never the plan of God for ' a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife' and he 'made them male and female'
There is a bond when there is inter course even 'he that is joined to an harlot is one body with her'
Financial responsibility on the part of the man is a major criteria for marriage 'a man (not child/boy) shall leave his father and mother'. You are man when you are able to 'leave your father and mother'(able to fend for yourself). Wisdom then demands that a man should crave for financial independence before craving for marriage.
The ten commandments is still valid. If you want to know how to show love, look at the ten commandments. |
