The manufacturer said his generator is fuel-less, meaning no energy input is required to generate electricity, my question now is; how do you generate electric energy from nothing? Pls explain this concept because what my "roadside technician" told me is that energy can neither be created nor distroyed but can be transformed from one form to another. Some would be surprised to hear that some doctors offer to work for free just so that they can be done with the housejob and prevent the license from expiring.

maybe he is on locum. There is no law that says a consultant should come once in a week. It's typical for consultant to have their clinic days, surgery days etc. they also teach undergraduate and postgraduate students etc.

A consultant working for government is like any other civil servant that must abide by the laws.

Bro.... I am talking from experience... This said consultant came to the ophthalmology dept only on thursdays. I was practising full-time as a primary eye care specialist, my job was to book/refer patients whose conditons were beyond the confines of primary eyecare ... Of course he came to work everyday but you couldnt see him if you were a patient except it was an emercency. he worked as a MEDICAL PRACTITIONER only on thursdays. He might have been into administrative work but beyond 2pm... hes out.. My point is doctors have all the time in the world joor (only if you working in a fed hosp or you are not on call).

the ophthalmologist i worked with in BhuTh only came on thursdays.... they perform the surgery and if there are more patients for that day.. they extend it to the next day.. But on the rooster, they are only meant to come every thursday

I was thinking of opening a thread here on the Health Section on the Myths and Realities of HIV/AIDS and ways to manage and combat the pandemic but the workload on me and my various trips has not given me time to do that. Albeit, pending on when i open the thread, let me take the various points you raised so as to enlighten more people about the HIV virus.



Ans: There is something called a "False Positive" and also a "False Negative" in HIV ELISA Tests. I'll explain...

FALSE POSITIVE: When a test is conducted for HIV, a result is determined not by the presence of the HIV virus in the body but by the activities of the antibodies that react to the HIV virus itself! The reactions that culminate to these activities sometimes occur in the body of a HIV negative individual.

These reactions are due to but not limited to the following occurrences:

*Anti-carbohydrate antibodies
*Naturally-occurring antibodies
*Passive immunization: receipt of gamma globulin or immune globulin (as prophylaxis against infection which contains antibodies)
*Renal (kidney) failure
*Flu vaccination
*Malaria
*Pregnancy in multiparous women
*Herpes simplex I and II
*Blood transfusions, multiple blood transfusions
*High levels of circulating immune complexes
*Recent viral infection or exposure to viral vaccines
And many more metabolic reactions which is to numerous to mention. (The ones i listed are the most common and frequent)
All these and many other metabolic occurrences are a huge factor that is responsible for a false positive result in a HIV Negative person.

Receiving a positive ELISA result doesn’t mean that you’re HIV-positive. A small percentage of people may receive a false-positive result, which means the result says you have the virus when you don’t have it. This can happen if the test picks up on other antibodies (which may occur due to any or a combination of the list of events i compiled above) in your system.

All positive results are confirmed with a second test. This is called the Western Blot. This is a more sensitive antibody test. It can take up to a week for you to receive the results of this test. If the result of the Western blot turns up to be positive, then the person is confirmed to be really POSITIVE.

FALSE NEGATIVE (Usually Window Period): The window period is the term to describe the time between an exposure and the point at which an HIV test would show positive. During the window period someone who is infected wirh HIV can have a HIV negative test result.

For 4th generation antigen/antibody tests this period is four weeks for 95% of infections. Because 5% of people take up to three months to develop antibodies a three month window is generally referred to.

Another false negative which is not generally referred to as a false negative is when the person is on an HAART Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Treatment. The ARV drugs stops the rate at which HIV spreads. With prolonged period of ARV treatment, the HIV in the bloodstream dies off but some copies of the HIV hibernate in the body cells and tissues and even organs in the body. Any test following this can come out negative but in theory, the person is still HIV positive because on stopping the ARV treatment, the viruses hibernating in the cells and organs will come out of their hiding places and begin to make more copies of themselves.



HIV is a difficult virus to catch sexually. Even if your partner is HIV positive and you did not use a condom, the risk is usually less than 1 in 100 (less than 1%). However, it only takes one exposure to catch HIV. This means that luck and other factors are involved.

So this means that out of thousands of people who have a risk of catching HIV, some will become positive. For some people this might be from their first risky exposure. HIV is therefore generally a low risk event, but with potentially serious outcomes. Taking an HIV testing to know your HIV status is a good idea.

Viral load is another factor that plays an important role in HIV infection.

Using Aunty Yetunde and Sister Chiamaka which you mentioned as variables, consider this:

HIV is a virus that leads to AIDS if left untreated but it will take a considerably long period of time before this takes effect. The duration of HIV infection to the progression to AIDS varies from individual to individual. For some people, it will take up to 10-20 years while it will take a shorter time in others. It is worthy to note that factors such as Dieting, Lifestyle and environmental factors can play key roles to this duration.

On ARVs leading to AIDS: This is a very important part which i want people to understand...ARV in theory and truth does not really lead to AIDS. But there are some underlying factors...ARVs have what is known as protease inhibitors.

Now the reason for making ARVs is to slow down the process of the HIV Virus from spreading and increasing because the more copies of HIV virus, the more T4 Helper Cell that fight infections decrease which leads to what is known as a low CD4 count. ARVs have what we at NovaCare say is the Good and the UGLY..

The GOOD: It stops the mutation of HIV pathogens making it static as long as the infected person takes them for life...THE UGLY: ARVs are known to have adverse side effects on many HIV patients because it affects vital organs like the liver, pancreas etc.
Since it is a protease inhibitor, there has been many undocumented cases of HIV posing serious dangers on HIV+ people with a condition known as Pancreatitis and other health conditions.

Symptoms of pancreatitis may include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, and jaundice. People at more advanced stages of HIV disease and those with previous pancreas problems are at a higher risk for pancreatitis, as are those who have a history of heavy alcohol consumption. Pancreatitis is also associated with elevated levels of blood triglycerides and other fats, which are often seen in people taking protease inhibitors. Increased blood levels of the enzyme amylase may indicate damage to the pancreas and to tell you the truth, this condition is very fatal!

Some other side effects of HAART include:

*Gastrointestinal Side Effects
*Peripheral neuropathy and Paresthesias (Mental and Neurological Side Effects)
*Skin Side Effects such as Rashes, Itching, pruritis, Steven-Johnson Syndrome etc
*Kidney Side Effects such as kidney toxicity, kidney stones, high creatinine levels and and high protein levels which can ultimately lead to kidney failure
*Hyperglycemia and Diabetes which results to the HAART actacking the B-Cells in the pancreas which is responsible for the production of Insulin.

When someone who is HIV+ comes down with a combination of one or more of all these ailment mentioned above, and the person dies...the medical postulation is usually that the person died of AIDS-related complex...




There have been quite a number of documented origins of the HIV virus but the most popular is the theory of its origin a type of chimpanzee in West Africa as the source of HIV infection in humans according to scientists. They believe that the chimpanzee version of the immunodeficiency virus (called simian immunodeficiency virus or SIV) most likely was transmitted to humans and mutated into HIV when humans hunted these chimpanzees for meat and came into contact with their infected blood. Over decades, the virus slowly spread across Africa and later into other parts of the world.



This is certainly the most debated and most controversial point today. There is an iota of truth in the claims that pharmaceutical industries are after financial gains. They know that if HIV which is a NON-RECURRENT infection is conquered, then less money for them. You may ask, "How do Pharmaceutical Companies make money from HIV since the drugs are given FREE OF CHARGE? SO IS THERE TRULY A CURE FOR HIV?

HIV is a very cunning virus which once it gains entry into the human body, it begins to infect other cells in the body especially the T-Cells (lymcophytes) These T-Cells are responsible for fighting off infections and diseases. When the number of the cells are reduced, the person is said to have a low CD4 count and becomes susceptible to other ailments which ordinarily would have been taken care of by the body. Ordinarily, most drugs would be able to kill the HIV virus in the bloodstream as this is very easy but what makes HIV hard to treat is the fact that it goes to hide in the organs of the body and when the one in the blood is cleared off via Blood Neutralization and Cleansing protocols and others, the HIV hibernating in the organs will come out of their hiding places and reinfect the blood.

The only way HIV can be EFFECTIVELY TREATED is if it is possible to get a form of medication or antibiotic/antiviral agent which will do the following:

Be introduced in the body in form of a vaccine that on sighting the virus on the onset of infection, it arrests it immediately and prevents it from infecting body cells

Penetrate the protective coating (envelop) of the virus and kill the mitochondrion or RNA of the virus whereby it depletes it totally!
