Family › Re: Your Background Can Determine How Far You Go In Life by boiz2men(m): 2:23pm On Mar 16, 2023 |
Honeydenz: Thinking aloud all through last night, I have thought very deeply till 1am this morning on how a particular pattern Of wealth and affluence drives In a family and society expecially in this part of the world.
Studying the life of rich and influential individuals in the society, most of them seem to come from an already established or comfortable home, this worries me since I and my siblings aren't really from a well-to-do home or a rich background. For example, Seyi tinubu is already successful and famous and doing well, all thanks to his father Bola tinubu and understandably, tinubu himself also had a rich parent and studied in the US and With the western exposure they come back home and do great things, Obaseki of Edo state, Femi otedola's father was a governor of Lagos state, I can go on and on. Your background and the environment you grew up in either impacts your life positively, or negatively, and could determine your future. But only if you allow it to. From the experiences of many, a humble upbringing, absence of one parent or lack of education does not mean that your future is doomed.
What's your opinion? Please no sentiments, religious or emotional comments pls, only reasonable argument is welcome. would really appreciate if this can get to the front page for more logical explanations. This is not true. Let me encourage you I grew from absolutely NOTHING. Although I acknowledge the existence of Grace, I dare say it is mostly available to those who put in some effort. In the university, someone tagged to me a FB post, the post was "tag someone who you know will be a millionaire in 5 years time" This shocked me. At the time, I was really struggling but I bet he saw my push and hustling spirit. Another guy told me "you be like person to watch out for". Another said "you nor be person wey Dem dey lose e contact oo" I remember their words clearly cos I took them to God in prayer. I was involved in a lot of small businesses and jobs, some not very appealing but I wanted out of the poverty I was born into. In secondary school, I cleared bush for stipends and did assignments for my classmates for a fee, helped people copy notes. I have never been out of cash no matter how small. If I have zero today, I will go outside and come back with 500-1000 to survive that day. This literally happened and my guy said "you be like person papa" and I was only 19. My start up capital was 5000 in 2012 which was my monthly allawee as a student and it has grown tremendously since then. I had no help from ANYONE. It was just me and my God. Have the right mindset and keep God close to your heart |

EriMma1: You may not know but it's an attitude of ingratitude because thinking or even asking if money gives happiness is a big pointer to the fact that youre underrating the power of money and how it can affect your emotions
Money gives happiness but you fail to see it now because it's still there. you won't know how valuable a thing is until you lose it. I pray you dont lose it. I see your point. Thank you |
Family › Re: Does Money Really Give TRUE Happiness? by boiz2men(op): 7:02pm On Mar 15, 2023 |
EriMma1: Op, you're not alone. There was a time I was so comfortable though not a millionaire but could afford anything I wanted. It got to point I began to feel like money is not everything to the point I voiced it out to my younger sister. It didn't just feel so special any more then like how it makes people go Gaga that they wanna do dangerous stuff to get it at all cost.
At that point I wasn't really excited as whatever I wanted I got. I want to believe such feeling is a deception from the devil to make you unappreciative and ungrateful to God cos after I made that statement, things got a little tough and I began to see the importance of money and also appreciate God for all he did that period I had excess and then realized it was the devil making me devalue or underplay its importance all along.
Now I appreciate and value the littlest of things and above all, God.
So, please get rid of that attitude of ingratitude. No, It's not ingratitude. In fact, I think it might be too much of gratitude and contentment but I'm not sure. I am very comfortable and appreciative of where I am, was, and came from. I used to be so ambitious but not anymore. The desire for more is now nonexistent yet what was already gotten isn't as exciting as one would expect. A part of me thinks it's because I am not materialistic. |
Family › Does Money Really Give TRUE Happiness? by boiz2men(op): 6:23pm On Mar 15, 2023 |
Life is puzzling.
Sometimes I wonder why our politicians steal so much. By God's grace, I became rich and graced to see hundreds of million. A few contracts here and there and a great career. But here comes a new problem. This doesn't excite me anymore. The next 10 million is not going to make my life any better. Promotion at work, increase in income, nothing excites me anymore and worse is that I am not materialistic at all, so acquiring gadgets, toys, or building mansions could never make me excited. I live a very simple life, wear basic quality fashion items, and drive simple cars. This is just my personality and not an act of humility.
Despite all the many good things that have happened in my life and all the things that I could potentially acquire. I am at a stage where I am really confused about myself. Sometimes I buy unnecessary things I don't need just to feel like I am spending money. Other times, I am quick to assist deserving friends.
If you are not materialistic and yet, rich. How did you overcome this problem? This problem has left me in a state where I am neither happy nor sad. |

Maxwell775: Season greetings nairalanders. Pls I don't know the right section to post this. What's really wrong with Nigeria police?
My family's house is in Lagos, ipaja command precisely where my mum, grandmother and my Lil sis stays, my dad is late (my his gentle soul R.I.P), My elder bro jst married few months ago, he has his own house in Lag, but he came with his wife to spend time in our family's house.
I'm based in ibadan and that's where I work. I came to Lagos on Tuesday to celebrate the new year in our family's house. Whenever I'm in Lag I've a good friend that do flex me well, same thing I do whenever he visits ibadan too. For almost a year now I haven't been to Lag, so i called him that I was around. As real niggas our greetings is yabbing, he said I should come over to his place at ikotun. When i got there we went to a nice bar to flex, we were gisting, drinking enough bottles, isi ewu, catfish pepper soup and watched Chelsea match.
On my way back, as I was driving towards Baruwa, some group of police officers asked me to park, when I came down, one of them approached me and asked what do I do for a living? I told them what I do. I also told them I'm not based in Lag. They searched my car, went through my license, and car documents, it was intact and updated.
It all started from here. They asked of my business I.D card. (Pls note I came to Lag with it. It was in my wallet including my voter's card, atm card and national ID but It was at home, My guy took care of the bills so I left the house with jst 2k). I said I forgot it at home. He said a business man with no means of identification? how is he sure my car isn't stolen. Out of anger I said are you normal? you saw my car particulars correct and intact and you're still asking if it was stolen.
He pushed me and held my trouser that I'm insulting an officer. Before I knew it we drove to there station at Baruwa Gate, I sat down behind the counter, they said when it's 12am they will lock me up (for offense I know nothing about).
I called my elder bro to pls come with my business I.D to the station. He came to the station with my mom and grandmother as at 11:15pm. The officer explained what happened and told them my bail is 40k (mind you I have the Money, my atm wasn't with me) I can do transfer but I refused because I didn't commit any crime. My family offered 10k but they rejected.
My grandmother created a scene there oo... She said if they must lock me, they should also lock her up too...she said her children and grandchildren have never been to cell or station because she didn't train criminals but since they rejected the 10k we offered, they should as well lock her up with me, Let just break record today. See!! nor be small thing.
Well after long drama they accepted and we left their custody. My grandmother pulled my ears, even while I was driving she was still pulling saying better go back to ibadan if I know I came to give them wahala in Lag. Well I apologizeed to everyone at home.
The issue is despite the endsars and police brutality movement they're still extorting and harassing the youth. Why My guy, if you have your way, leave the country. All uniformed men are like this. Criminals in uniform |
