Politics / Re: How Buhari Can Create 2 Million Jobs With BPO by Boondoggle(m): 3:09pm On Apr 17, 2015 |
@op BPO is a great idea; however, without power and tech infrastructure the BPO is going no where. In my opinion, power should be priority for GMB. Erratic power supply is a demon that needs to be slayed in order for any tech company to thrive. In addition, once power is stable, lots of small businesses will spring up and we will probably not even be thinking of BPO at that time. Closely following power is communication infrastructure. I was surprised to learn that Nigeria has all sort of internet connections to the outside world via marine cables and fibre, but only about 10% of the capacity was being utilized as at 2012. I'm not sure what the number is today. We have the comms structure in place for the country to reach the outside world, but the internal infrastructure for the citizens to latch on to this structure is nothing to write home about. I believe it is high time Nigeria installed a fibre backbone and break the sad internet monopoly by the cell phone companies. Give Nigerians incessant power supply with good IT infrastructure and the kind of services we will come up with will be far beyond BPO. My 2 kobo. |

Computers / One Good Thing About Windows Vista by Boondoggle(m): 12:38am On Jan 07, 2009 |
Lol! I wonder how many cats curiosity will kill . . . Read on. Anyways, I finally ran into a cool feature on Vista that really tickled my fancy. . . While trying to sort out why vista has all of a sudden decided (remember that O/S has a mind of it's own ) not to recognise my cell phone via USB port any more, I went into control panel and after seaching fruitlessly (as usual with vista) for the source of the problem, I sat back in my executive chair and kept starring at the PC thinking of what to do with Vista and the lorry load of problems & pains it has brought to my computing experience. All of a sudden, my eyes rested on an applet with micrcophone icon within control panel; it is named SPEECH RECOGNITION (SR). For the same reason you are reading this thread, I decided to try it out before shuting for the day. My desktop clock at that time was pointing to 12:35am. Within minutes, I was hooked to this cool feature as I have started talking to my computer. Now, it is not 100% perfect but it is the best I have seen so far. Although I have not tried out a lot but this one got me thoroughly impressed by the advancement in SR. All I did to get to speed with the SR was to take the getting started tutorial and that was it! I can navigate my windows by just saying what I see on the screen, switching back and forth from program to program is as simple as saying "switch to , .", opening and typing and editing in MS word is now fun as I don't have to type with my fingers again and many more. Guess what? I finally hit my bed by 1:43am with a changed mind to still keep Vista for as long as the SR interests me. So folks, give it a trial and drop your rating here. I rate the overall experience 80%. You may want to tell us of any other SR s/w that you believe is better than this. Shalom |

Autos / How Much Would You Pay For Used Car Report? by Boondoggle(m): 11:17pm On Jan 02, 2009 |
Hi Niaralanders, Happy New Year to you all!!! There seems to be a great awareness now as per the importance of getting car report before purchasing used cars. I am working on a project to bring this service - getting car report with VIN# - to the reach of all and sundy. My question is this: Would you consider a service where you can get a used car report for =N=100? The report will include the following: Accident and service Ownership History Title Problems Shalom |
Religion / Re: Obedience and church work! by Boondoggle(m): 3:37am On Nov 22, 2008 |
@ poster, Whatever decision you take please have it at the back of your mind that it is YOUR LIFE that will be affected! To start with, I fully understand your situation because I have been there. The fact is that the fault is not yours alone; your pastor who does not respect your life outside church has a fault as well. The problem you both share is called BOUNDARY problem. The person that does not have boundary has a problem; the one that runs over people's boundaries or take advantage of boundaryless people also has a problem. What is this boundary you may ask? I will qoute from a great book my fiancee recommended after sharing my predicament with her: " Boundary define us. They define what is me and what is not me. A boundary shows me where I end and someone else begins, leading me to a sense of ownersip." If you don't set up boundary for your life and make people aware of it some folks will run over your life at their convenience. Bounday is that invisible wall that one sets around one's life that makes peolpe know the answer they will get to any request they are about to throw at you. A well defined boundary prepares one to handle situations like the ones you stated above in a Godly and polite manner. A lot of examples abound in the book to drive the points raised home and the juicy thing about the book is that it was written from christian point of view and has lots of bible references. I will advise you get a copy of the book: Name - Boundaries Authors: Dr. Henry Cloud & Dr. John Townsend. What can you do now? 1.) Start to set up boundary by scheduling you time and stick to your schedule. Draw up your schedule so that you will know what you will be doing at any point in time so that when folks start to throw request at you, you have a ready convincing answer. You will be surprised how many other people are taking advantage of you in a subtle way that you have not even discovered yet. 2.) Create a geographical distance - leave the church after service if you are not doing anything so that you don't give impression that you are available for extra responsibilities that are not your's. 3.) Don't feel guilty for saying NO to requests that are not your responsibily more so if undertaking them will upset your schedule; our God is a God of order and balance. More importantly, know what God has called you to do in the church and have it in your schedule. Like Pastor Dollar used to say - we should not be too heavenly conscious that we are no earthly good and we should not be too earthly conscious that we are not heavenly good - balance is the key! 4.) Use your voice mail to strengthen you boundary. 5.) Above all, pray that God will open his eyes to see what he is doing. Shalom |

Practise! Constant practise!! Constant vigorous practise!!! If you have your course outline, read ahead of your class otherwise after each lecture practise the topic treated and solve ALL problems you can lay your hands on as per the topic; then, use the three keys above . If you come accross any problem that seems difficult , get help from your colleagues or instructors. That's it! Shalom |
Family / Re: Mom's Favorite Phrases . . . New Moms Pick your Choice. by Boondoggle(m): 10:38pm On May 16, 2008 |
Wow! Just when I thought all nice topics have been exhausted on NL, bang! comes this lovely one that takes me down memory lane. Mothers are really precious and they leave indelible " marks" on their children in all respect as we can see in the foregoing postings . My mumsy has a bunch of "sayings" that still rings a bell in my head every now and then and I have incorporated some of these into my vocab as well. Here are but a few that comes to mind at this moment: When I went out without permission and got caught - Aakin ile ti yin o ki nta yin nidi - literally, termite of your own house does not sting your bums . . just to say your own stuff does not interest you. When I vandalised anything (mostly toys) in the house - she says this with a heavy knock at the center of my head - Baseje obi ti nso leerun: don't know how to interprete this When caught doing something wrong and got pardoned - Ijo ti o ba tun dan wo, ma se tekia mewa fun e: don't know how to interprete this in either Here is another warning but more serious than above - maa na e, ma so moona mo e niidi - Can't interprete this as well When any thing got broken carelessly - ijo ti o ba tun fo anything ninu ile yi, ma fi ko ila si e loju ni: next time you break anything in this house, I will use the broken pieces to give you tribal marks. She never did! This one is from her collection of encouraging words - olorun to da enu ni ibunbu o ti mo ohun ti yio fi bo: God that created the mouth with a slanting shape knew before hand what will go inside it. This is always her last advise to an unyielding soul - O je lo bosi ibikan, ki o sun orun meje ti eda nsun, ko ro inu e daaaada - You'd better go somewhere and sleep the seven sleeps human beings sleep and think deep down. Now, my all time favorite and once she issues this warning, then, be rest assured that the next slight misbehaviour will attract thorough spanking which no "jupiter" (that 's the way she puts it) can stop - ti o ban tun danwo, ti nba mu e, wa gba wipe olorun o kola ! Next time you try this, if i get hold of you, you will agree that God does not have tribal marks! lol! Shalom |

I usually sarcastically ridicule my wife whenever I remember our wedding night; the first time I touched her, broke her hymen and painted the room red! We laugh at it and she demands that I forever buy her flowers to show that I deflowered her! The experience always make me view her as a pet that must be preserved and not hurt and which must be watered even after a two kids. Met what I expected and loved and still love it! Oh! Its not about virginity. Sorry! @cgift, I never knew the highlighted in RED above I have to re-read my bible through again! @Pilgrim1, Hmmn!sex in religion section will definitely pique ones curiosity. While I was still with my parents, my mum never missed standing up to correct anyone that said sexual stuff in the "vulgal" way and she would not stop at warning you to desist from using such words under her roof but she would gladly give you her accepted paraphrased words. For me, by default I go the bible way; paraphrase it as much as possible. There are actually times when one needs to drive a point home and cut accross to some naughty folks then I do say it the way it is and guess what? A loud chorus of P-A-S-T-O-R always welcome such utterance from me. Funny how some folks believe that when one is a christian one does not know what goes behind closed doors!!! They'd better know that christians know what time it is! But wait o, if two virgins got married, how would they know what to do on the wedding night Natural Intuition |
TV/Movies / Joke Silva Live On Canadian Stage In "Have You Seen Zandile?" by Boondoggle(m): 10:01pm On Jan 25, 2008 |
Hi Folks, I got this from a colleague in the office and thought I should share with Nairalanders in Canada. "Have You Seen Zandile?" is a beautifully written play by the prominent South African playwright, Gcina Mhlophe and stars one of Nigeria's most acclaimed actresses, Joke Silva with the multi-talented Toronto actress d'bi young in the title role and rising Toronto performer Olivia Duodu as Zandile's friend. Directed by Bunmi Oyinsan, "Have you seen Zandile?" takes us into the country of childhood and puberty and allows us to partake of its magic and sometimes startling realities. It shows us facets of South African history, life and social values which have tended to be overshadowed by the charged politics of South Africa's apartheid and post-apartheid eras by utilising an accessible story-line, dialogue, music, dance and storytelling from an authentic African cultural context. This production is a refreshing way to celebrate the diversity of Canadian culture and historical heritage. See attachement for details. Shalom Disclaimer: I am not in any way invovled in this production; just passing across the info as I received it.

Family / Re: Sleeping Position On Bed Threatens Marriage! by Boondoggle(m): 11:49pm On Jan 17, 2008 |
aysometin: Yes o! my sister, I have already added the cost of a good generator - not " I better pass my neighbour" o!!! And also the cost of black market fuel, etc. All these added up to make my suggestion "not the cheapest" If they can't afford AC then a nice "silly" fan should do or better still, at zero cost, they should move their bed to the middle of the room thereby creating additional open end. Chikena! Shalom |
Family / Re: Sleeping Position On Bed Threatens Marriage! by Boondoggle(m): 1:54am On Jan 12, 2008 |
jintujinta: To resolve such issues one has to get to the root cause. According to my quick RCA, the root cause is what I highlighted in RED above. And the simple solution which is definately not the cheapest is for this couple to install a good AIR CONDITIONAL. . . . and whoever is responsible for providing this level of comfort for the family should quietly sleep in the dreaded INNER "furnace" of the bed till this is done. Health / Re: Should The Toilet Seat Be Up Or Down? by Boondoggle(m): 9:19pm On Jan 11, 2008 |
Personally, I prefer both seat and lid down when not in use, and when men want to pee they should lift the seat and do their thing and them put them down. Meanhwile, I came across this interesting paper - The Troublesome Toilet Seat: Up or Down? Three Schemes - on the net. This paper comes complete with data, statistics, graphs, computer simulation etc and all these still on the issue of toilet seat that some considered mundane. Please take time to visit the link below for the paper: http://www.speech.sri.com/people/anand/toiletseat/index.html Guk:LOL . . . . .I guess this is better discussed in a thread of its own. Shalom |

Omoge, I am really impressed with your write up. It took me back memory lane. The little addition to the scenario is that no one, and I repeat no one is allowed to cook the jollof rice except mummcy otherwise no one will eat. Mother's hand in cooking xmas & new year rice is unique. And guess what? mum used to tease us with that and we would beg all the way from January till December. Now that we are all even out of the house, we still long for mum's hand when we go home for re-union at xmas. @ Ikamefa, My curiosity has finally got the best of me . , . what is the meaning of "Ikamefa"? Are you "olugbodi" with six fingers or is it "six wicked ones" as in " Ika Mefa". Anyways, enjoy the xmas rice with as many finger as Gos has blessed you with. Did someone mentioned "banga" soup or was that supposed to be BANGER? Shalom |
Romance / Must Bride Go Half-dressed On Wedding Day? by Boondoggle(m): 12:09am On Dec 11, 2007 |
MARRIAGE is a legal relationship between a man and a woman. The unique body of a woman is supposed to be the source of her pride. Fashion parade among youths, where clothes that expose sensitive parts of the body is the vogue, have become worrisome in our society. The youths are seen daily on our streets scantily dressed. Whatever anyone likes to say about this phenomenon, it has increased the temptation in men to be freer with their female counterparts. http://odili.net/news/source/2007/dec/8/606.html It is about time we call a spade a spade. Career / Re: Is It Normal To Dream About Your Boss? by Boondoggle(m): 8:17pm On Nov 13, 2007 |
I agree partly because dreams are not ONLY the product of our minds. Dreams could come from God or Satan as well. So, wisdom is to decipher the source they are coming from and act upon them accordingly. Dreams are like out spiritual monitors. dafman: If you believe spiritual controls the physical then you'd better start to believe that most problems in Naija have spiritual undertone. @ Poster, To have dreams that go alone the same line reveals basically the same thing and this could mean that the reason you are having the dreams is still pending and requires you to respond in a way. It may also suggest urgency if it becomes very frequent. As for the meaning of the content, you may want to talk to a genuine man/woman of God - I repeat, a GENUINE man/woman of God. This is not to say you need to run to man of God each time you dream. A dream after eating a fat bolw of Eba before crashing at night may be totally meaningless like the ones one has when suffering from high fever. Shalom |
