In this book Obasanjo revealed that there are 5 presidents in Nigeria in the following order:

1. Patience Jonathan

2. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala

3. Deziani Allison Madueke

4. Stella Oduah

5. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

He further went on to say that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan comes a distant fifth in the hierarchy of things. He described how weak, incompetent and corrupt President Jonathan is.

Well, recall that Femi Fani-Kayode said exactly the same things about 4 months ago. Did Femi Fani-Kayode help baba compose parts of his book, or is it just a coincidence? cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

Politics › Re: Former President Obasanjo Launches His Controversial Autobiography In Lagos by Boss13: 5:55pm On Dec 09, 2014
feji333:
The initial launch, scheduled for Thursday, instead took place today in Lagos at the Lagos Country Club. The event was heavily-attended, featuring prominent figures like former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Ibidapo Obe, former minister of Education and VP of the World Bank, Oby Ezekwesili, and several others.

Following intense controversy surrounding the publication of his autobiography, My Watch, former President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo today defied a court order barring him from launching the book in Lagos.

SaharaReporters learned that President Goodluck Jonathan had personally contacted the former president in an attempt to postpone the book's release until after the coming presidential election. Excerpts from the book have generated much attention, as they have seriously criticized President Jonathan and the weaknesses in his administration.

Lawyers to the former president advised him to launch the book despite the court order, SaharaReporters learned, claiming the injunction could not stop the Obasanjo from releasing the autobiography.

The bolded continues to earmark our amiably president as one whose personal interest comes after national interest. Little wonder he continued with his rally in Kano even when the country was mourning and over 200 missing chibok girls mean nothing to him as long as he returns back as president.

Ladies and gentlemen!

I often visit Nairaland to read posts and comments without commenting myself because I like to learn from intelligent and sound minds. However, the saying goes that all it takes for evil to thrive is for few good men to say nothing; I am one of the few good ones, and I have chosen to react to some of the comments here on this thread.

I am a believer in the notion that as youths of Nigeria, we are no longer the leaders of tomorrow as we have been deceived to believe over time by people who have no interest in the future of Nigeria or its youths. Rather, we are the leaders of today! Now, how can one claim to be a leader when he does not possess a shred of wisdom or what is popularly known as "common sense"? Even though for all intent and purpose, that sense is not common as I have observed over the years.

Here is a nice write up and an opportunity to learn from a man of experience, an elder statesman, a 2-time President of the FRN, a former BOT Chairman, a Party leader, a sage, a man known for his wisdom, cunny, sense, a master strategist, among other things. I am of the opinion that such a man should be understudied to know what he knows, and what makes past, present and future presidents of Nigeria to go to him - cap in hand - asking for his advise and seeking his blessings.

So, coming to this thread, I was looking forward to reading inspiring, motivating and sensible comments from some folks who appear to be in their prime. However, I was disappointed to be confronted with silly and witless comments like "..see pot calling kettle black", "do not mind that man, he is more corrupt than..." and so on and so forth.

Now, my question is "is this the issue at stake?" Is this the topic of discussion?" The answer is crystal - "No". So, why leave the substance and start chasing the shadows!!

Now, I know that it is not everybody that has the ability to reason before opening their mouths. Rather, some folks open their mouths first and do not even reason afterwards thereby showing that such folks have no substance in them, and this is quite unfortunate. Ignorance is bliss with these persons.

To whoever has ears to hear, kindly be informed that by reading books that were or are written by great and prominent people, you are given a window of opportunity to see what they have seen in their lives, a glimpse into their minds and probably what made them great and invincible, and also how their minds operated and still operates. In this instance, what he saw and experienced while he was in government as the number 1 citizen of this country, even though I still think the man is still in government.

There is an adage that says "what an elder sees while sitting, a child cannot see even if he climbs the tallest palm tree!" There is wisdom in this adage, I believe, and the adage is applicable in this instance. We, as youths of this country, need to sit down and learn wisdom, knowledge and understanding from elder who have experience, knowledge and cunny, for the betterment of self and the country. And you will agree with me that the man called OBJ is such a man to learn from, even though you do not like him. And no matter how much you dislike or hate him, you cannot do anything about it. So, rather than harboring bitterness and giving yourself headache over a man who does not know that you even exist, why don't you share from his wealth of knowledge and wisdom! For example, imagine these words:

“Timely information is a very important principle of war and also of politics. In politics, just as in war, what matters is not just your plan, but knowledge of your opponent’s plan. Knowing their plan, I had the choice of playing along with them or being firm, I chose the latter."

If you have read the book "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu, you can relate to this. Anyway, as the saying goes, "a word is enough for the wise."

Thank you.
I did your comment injustice by first not reading and passing it over. Maybe because of its length and I thought you belong to the school of thought who sits down and start to castigate people without even coming up close and personal.

I must confess that your comment remains the best and addresses the issue head on. For me, this book is a must have and a must read.

Well done

Well,

I havent criticized him, you brought up issues that were not worth it. Apparently, our mentality is so brutalized that the norm is now regarded as improvements worth singing praises for. Again, i disagree on how browsing the internet via your phone is an initiative from OBJ, except you'll add bringing computers to your doorstep', afterall, some 'monk' thanked GEJ for bringing facebook to Nigeria. I'm yet to understand what you mean by "... working into a hospital and paying little fee...", which hospital are you talking abt? Abt the banking jobs, I remember vividly how medical doctors and co were looking for banking jobs during that era, it was the OBJ era that banking became a job for every field of study. Abt Pension, OBJ brought that? I think you're the one who need a lot of reading here.

Dont get me wrong, Some people need to be heavily thankful to OBJ, people like GEJ and probably you were made by OBJ. Others are permitted to hate him with passion, people from ODI will squeeze life outta him if they have the opportunity, we're all entitled to our opinions and we're permitted to see things from different perspectives Religion and Ethnicity aside. No doubt, GEJ is far worse, probably unworthy to lace the shoe of OBJ in development, but that doesnt make OBJ a saint. He was still a devil!
What does the telecommunication policy mean to you? Do you know how much bandwidth cost now and what it costed 15 years ago? I can tell you because I worked in that industry as at then and it was a slow as the tortoise. Cybercafe business costed close to N10million to start up with just 5 computers. Now, university undergraduates can set-up a cyber cafe.

Now you can change your phone at your own discretion, at least after checking your pockets. That is because the telecommunication roadmap was implemented, if it was truncated - we would still be at the mercy of NITEL.

What does HMO mean to you? If you do not know this you must be a university undergraduate and still under the sponsor of your parents or guardian. Without the introduction of health insurance, the cost of quality health services will be so enormous even with our quack doctors. Now if you work with a reputable organisation, you can walk into any hospital of your choice, show them your ID card, get treated and pay little or no fees because it is mandatory for your employers to sign up all employees with a reputable HMOs.

The BOOM days were memorable days and a lot of people are still benefiting from it. The Banking industry was booming, telecoms was booming, services sectors also saw the need to increase personnel. Accounting/Financial Consultants saw the need to increase personnel. The effect was spiral. The fear for parents reduced. Graduates were not pulling down the gates of Mobil, Shell and the Civil Service.

Pension Bill was sponsored, passed and implemented by Obasanjo. Please go back to your history book. You do not need to go back to history. Jonathan has not implemented any major economic policy (that I am so sure of). Yaradua spent months in office before he transcended. So you are left with only one option. wink

To conclude, I do not like Obasanjo - why? He had all opportunity to be the greatest president Nigeria will ever have, for now he is, by resolving our fundamental issues e.g Power. He used his first tenure to consolidate himself in Power and sustain democracy and he actually worked in his second tenure, where he changed politically figure head to technocrats. I know if he had succeeded with third term, we would have had constant power supply. Quite unfortunate that for 6 years - we are yet to understand this current administration.

If what I've been reading on this thread are the opinions of the youths of this country then I feel most of the youths are not thinking well as people who want to take over the rulership ogf this country tomorrow. Baba have written some lines about his deputy while in power telling us what we did not know and never envisaged has happened. As youths who want to be leaders of tomorrow all we ought do is read, understand every bit and digest and not just follow polliticians who will tell you what you want to hear but shielding the truth from you. I believe in studying events at it unfolds.
Exactly. What interests me the most is that he did it without fear. These are the same people rallying around him.

Well the youth and teenagers rely on what their parents told them. Would you blame them.

Only in this administration, you see criminals flaunting and talking with authority e.g Dokunbo, Kasharun, Tompolo etc Only in this country that crimes are legalised - payments to niger militants to protect oil rigs grin and the position of government officials involved with corruption still retained e.g Diezani, Stella, Farouk etc and those who do not support corruption are shown the backdoor e.g Sanusi.

Only in this administration innocent people die daily and political rallies are on-going at the same time - Insensitivity (Kano rally). Only in this administration, money laundering activities are legalized. Only in this administration the office of the first lady is institutionalised and used to abuse power. Only in this administration money change hands and the benefits are not felt.

I really want to know what Jonathan has done for 6 years. Now somebody will come and show me roads. Roads shocked for 6 years. Is that what we make my one naira increase to two naira - roads and distribution of fertilizers and auto-mobile policy yet in its infant stage, a policy that has resulted to an increase in the value of fairly used vehicles. Painting of Airports. Thank God our airports has been categorized at one of the worst in Africa, not even the world. The same painting of airports that Stella was using to disturb our ears.

One question bro; Was YOUR life better during Obasanjo or now? i mean your life, so appraise yourself
I have to be honest with you. I am still reaping from the benefits of some of the policies implemented by Obasanjo. That I can enter into a hospital and I pay little fees is a testimony. That I can browse the internet via my phone, something we travel miles and stay in queues for long hours just to make calls. That I can drive round town without soldiers molesting you is a good thing. That I can call my Pension Managers and query them for not sending me my monthly balance is a huge achievement (remember people die to collect their pension). That the monetization programme establish by Obasanjo so that Civil servants can own their own homes is another achievement - ask civil servants in Abuja. That at some point, graduates were rejecting Banking jobs because they considered it stressful and they were alternatives.

If you don't know all these, maybe you are still young but you shall surely grow and if you do not know all these - then you have no right to criticize Obasanjo. I do not like the man, I criticized him heavily when he was president. However, with what we have now. I wished Obasanjo got third term. What we have is a disease. Thousands are dying everyday is enough reason to slap the devil out of our president

Are you serious? Tell me more...

Dude, Telecommunication/GSM were his achievement? Economic Stability?, DAMN! you need to understand and not just buy in the propaganda sold to you.
I guess you should add that Obasanjo brought computers to Nigeria... Have you forgotten that it was during his era that PCs start selling faster?

That guy did more harm than good, from 16billion dollars into power, being the oil Minister... no need for details, believe what you believe.
I will not take out the fact that Obasanjo was Minister of Petroleum - not oil minister when he was President. I remember he gave a flimsy excuse that he is yet to find a credible candidate for that position. I also remember watching on TV seeing Chinese men signing MoU on power without any improvement at all. I agree that Obasanjo wasted money on that sector without solving it, maybe because a power audit was not properly done. However, I know he started the power reform program. It is a pity he did not complete it. Hence, maybe we would be wondering what our amiably president will be priding himself doing in Aso rock.

I am yet to see what Jonathan is doing to stimulate the economy and improve the lives of the average Nigeria. We may not like Obasanjo, including myself, but we should be grateful to him. If you have ever witness military oppression you will never understand my statement. The nonsense Jonathan is doing now are things that makes the military stage coup in the past. Go back to your history book and learn. So for us to still have sustainable democracy till now - credit must go to Obasanjo

These are policies that improves the standard of living of the ordinary Nigerians. Policies that adds or increases the amount of Naira inside the pockets of Nigerians.

I dare anyone to mention any policies that has improve the lives of Nigerians that has been completely implemented by Jonathan and his goons. All I read on papers are distribution of fertilizers and the free rise and fall of megawatts of power. Let me remind Nigerians, that the Agricultural boom actually started from Obasanjo's era.

If I were Obasanjo, I will never forgive Atiku for the role he played in contemplating to get me out of power and not only will I make him pay dearly, I will render him politically incapacitated. So for Atiku to still have the strength to contest means Baba is sort of kind. Because either you double cross the master and eliminate him completely or await the consequences if you fail.

I believe it hurts Obasanjo that his influence is diminishing - whatever reasons it maybe, we may never know because we are all speculating. However, Obasanjo was spot on with the adjectives he used in characterizing the president. The president does not have what it takes to govern a complex country like Nigeria and we can see the manifestations around us. They are not mere sayings but realities that will continue to haunt people all the rest of their lives. A president should improve the lives of its followers and not indirectly cut them short.

I don't think OBJ had third term agenda. If he did and as he has boasted many times before there was nothing stopping him. NIGERIA IS A VERY USELESS COUNTRY GOVERNED BY THE WEAKEST, MOST UN-NTELLIGENTI AND MOST COWARDLY PEOPLE.
Everybody in PDP is a political prostitute. Self seeking, soft in the head, selfish and materialistic. If Obj had used EFCC and money he would have gotten third term easily if he wanted and he had unbelievable money.
We need to remove this party in 2015 before they gang up and sell this country.
You have a point but the rumours of 3rd term then were heavy. I know if Obasanjo wanted it he would have even killed for it, however, I am sure he thought about it too. A lot of people were scared of him. The way he played Atiku and humbled him was something else. I remember vividly that he had so much control of the entity called Nigeria. His ministers were scared and will never act otherwise. Obasanjo will never tolerate a minister committing fraud or abusing his/her powers.

Like him or not, Obasanjo preserved our democracy. I committed a lot of atrocities to ensure that our young democracy was never truncated. Lets be honest, imagine our present president in power at that time. I bet the military would have taken over then and even if they are not even contemplating a coup now.
