Less than $10 on ebay. But shipping to Nigeria is a different story. http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2F&fkr=1&from=R8&satitle=3220+data+cable&category0= |
I modified my link above to indicate it's even a little cheaper on ebay(about $230). These things are probably a little more expensive in Niger. lauryn: |
Not bad looking. It's going for about $250 on this end. I will assume it will sell for the equivalent in Nigeria. A little cheaper on ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170031808387&category=64355 mmachi: |
It's called call forwarding/divert. It's not free. Each number that is forwarded will still be charged. See the GSM codes link in the thread below. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=21844.msg612159#msg612159 |
Why do you have to buy a phone with all those features now? Buy a basic phone for now or whatever your money can buy, so that you can at least communicate, then once you get more funds, and you can afford a phone with all those features you can go for it! |
This is basic english. non means not! As posted, try google or the dictionary for more info. |
What is it that you can't understand between a programmer and non-programmer? Am I missing something here? |
High level language are languages that do not deal with the nitty gritty of the machine itself, but rather at an abstract level. For example, Java, C++, VB etc. Low level languages deal more with programming to the machine itself, en example would be Assembly. You can try google if you need more info. |
Can't you just send him an email via his profile? sedan: |
I know that. My point is that you need to make sure you have a working connection. The error message you are receiving means it cannot detect your connection. First connect using the phone's browser, then try using opera mini. If the former works and the latter fails, then something else is wrong. Try to eliminate the obvious first. CHUKWUTEM: |
Here in the US all the schools are using Java to teach introduction to programming/software engineering. They have completely shifted from using a procedural language such as C or pascal. The core introduction to software development classes are all taught using Java. What really matters though, as already mentioned, is for OP to learn the general software development principles with whatever language, be it object -oriented or procedural. It should not be too bad of a transition moving from procedural to OO language. |
You need to have a working GPRS connection. So, first make sure you can access the web via the phone's browser. Opera mini is just a browser that uses whatever connection you have available. |
Just tell her how you feel men! Looks like she wants to get closer to you. If you are not up to it, be a man and let her know. OTOH, if you want to play along, just bang her! Either way you go, make sure your resume is updated, so you know you are ready to roll when she lets you go. ![]() |
I would go into programming for the love you have for it. Not necessarily for how easy it is to learn (and it's not!) or how much money you stand to make (only those that are very good at it and spend a lot of time learning it make money!). The money will not start rolling in as fast as you think. And, for it to continue to roll in, you have to keep learning, it never stops in this field. I have been doing this for over 12 years (the last 6+ years using Java), so I know a little bit about what it takes to survive in this field. Since you are asking about which is more relevant to programming between Java and C++, I'd say Hit google and search for java and C++ for more info. Oracle is a relational database. I hope you know that. If not, then google is your friend. |
This is the first time I am hearing of an entire masters devoted to project management(PM). At least I have not heard of it in the states. I would suggest you do your masters in Business (MBA), then you can specialize in PM, or do the project management professional certification. A highly recognized certification here. As already suggested, get to UK first, then study the environment to see how what you have in mind will fit in, Who your potential clients/competitors are, what other market forces can have an impact, etc. But, it's you that will have to make that decision regarding what you want to and ca do. You know what your strengths and weaknesses are and what you may want to do. You have an IT background (educationally only I think) and there are many opportunities in that area, good luck! |
Does the person actually have to be in the UK, or all that matters is that they have a UK number? |
Just make sure you update it with the most appropriate one. I have heard of horror stories. You use the wrong thing and your motherboard can get fried! |
It's just voice calls that are forwarded. SMS and MMS are not. I am assuming that's what you mean by message. |
You have to at least have an idea of what interests you and what you would like to do. Then you would need to determine who your potential clients/customers are and see how things are in UK. So, you would at least have to get there to see the best way to approach it. |
If you are referring to the error that shows up at the bottom left, that's usually a JavaScript error. Nothing you can control. It has to be handled by the page author. |
As posted above, you must have a repository/database that will hold your key/value pairs. Then when the user accesses your website you check your DB for a matching entry. Any programming language can be used to achieve something like this. There might even be some packages out there that you can purchase. So, all you will need is a DB that contains your values. You can easily program how many tries you will give the user if there is no entry, and so on. You need to first spec out what you are trying to achieve in plain english then post it here, then we will be able to provide better suggestions. |
Struts is another popular frameworks. It also requires a lot of configuration entries though. It's actually structured after the Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern. I guess you can consider another abstraction layer on top of the MVC pattern. And, it is heavily configuration driven. clocky: |
You can actually by a new laptop for about $500. I just bought an entry level one to bring home for my sister. I bought a B130(15.4 LCD, 60 gig HD, 512 ram, etc.) that's I added a couple of upgrades to for $560 total. An entry level like this one will suffice for most people. I know for a fact that you will not be able to order via dell's site since you reside in Nigeria. You may be able to call them up though and see if you can get one shipped out there. You will also need a major credit/debit card since that's all they will accept. |
Common my people! can we get away from all this cultural division thing! How can you determine this based on one's culture/ethnicity? This will depend solely on each and every individual's experience. |
I agree. These are just regular GSM codes which most carriers should have in their user guide/manual. See link below. Forwarding is not free though. Most carriers will charge for it. So, you better check with your carrier to find out exactly how much they charge. http://www.mobileshop.org/usertech/gsmcodes.htm |
Did not mean to undermine what you were trying to offer. Just was not aware that broadband prices were so high in Nigeria. I obviously do not live there. But, I have a sister who does and is about to sign up for the so called broadband. Now I see why most people just do their internet access via their Mobile's GPRS connection. Unless they really have to use a PC, then they will head to the Cafe. I was just advising someone in one of the programming forum to get a broadband connection in order to be able to download quite a few large files. Not knowing that the broadband speeds are not really broadband. |
Wow! Those prices are pretty high! Am I missing something? First, what's the broadband upload/download speed of the broadband service? For most people the most important speed is the download speed anyway. 128kbps for 7000 Naira? I get 115.2 Kbps while using my mobile as a modem on my laptop. Are these the average prices for broadband in Lagos? My wireless broadband service at home 4mbps up/down is just $50. |
Thanks my2cents, candylips. Yoke, AFAIK the financial sector (banking, financial services, insurance) seem to be up and coming market in Nigeria. At least in Lagos there are a lot of banks. So that will likely be a very good industry to focus on. Also, I would investigate how the product your company uses can fit into the financial services sector in Nigeria, and try to market that to potential clients. Almost every company nowadays needs some form of "web presence" in order to compete. You just need to take that presence to the next level (you can visit some banks websites), and see how what you have can make a difference. One key thing is being able to let your potential clients know how you can make a difference. You may need to create a fully functioning prototype and demonstrate it to them. I hope you have a laptop. If you do not, I'd say you will need one. |
I do not live in Nigeria. But, from visiting online forums, and visiting Niger every year, I can shed a little bit of light on this. I am sure the folks in Niger will have more to add. Web Development is an up an coming area. But, it will all depend on how you get yourself out there, what market you focus on, etc. The best way to get the word out is probably through samples of what you've done (a portfolio). There is already a lot of talent in this area, so you probably need to find a niche and take charge. Also, are you talking about just website development as in just client-side development, or we are talking about hard-core web application development. i.e. Do you have any programming skills (Java, JSP relational DB, etc.). If so, that can make you more marketable. So, you should probably advertise as a webapp developer rather than just a web site developer. Even if you do not have these skills, you can hire folks that do very reasonably. I have a friend who lives here but has hired a number of VB programmers to work on an application is developing for some bank down there. As for working from home, as long as the infrastructure is there, you should be fine. You will definitely need constant power supply. So, a generator is a must. And you will also need to hookup with a reliable ISP. I know there are some reliable ones, but can't remember the names right now. I know my sister, who also just moved back to Lagos signed up with one. I will actually be taking a laptop, router, etc. home for her when I visit in a few weeks. So, that I can configure a wireless connection for her. Any specific questions, you can PM me. |
I just want to mention that I ordered the ubuntu CD from the link below about 9 days ago and I received it yesterday. I'd say that's super fast! Considering that it was shipped from the Netherlands. So, that's probably the easiest way to get it. Assuming they will ship to Lagos of course. If you still want it , but can't get a hold of it, I do not mind burning the CD for you, since I will be in Lagos in a few weeks. You just have to meet me somewhere. Email me if you so desire. https://shipit.ubuntu.com/myrequest |
