This will definitely be a lesson learned. Also, when you post on the net which is available to the public, especially to a forum, try to be truthful. because you do leave a trail. All one needs to do is check your posting history (you obviously were not aware of that). So, somewhere along the line, you are not saying the truth. You also posted your picture, what a mistake! Even though you have taken the picture off, anyone that has saved the picture before you took it off has that exact picture. All they had to do is right click on the image and save it to their PC. I hope you know that anyway. |
There are several good books out there. I used and still refer to Beginning Java 2 by Ivor Horton, Thinking in Java by Bruce Eckel (this is available for free too), Beginning Java Objects by Jacquie Barker and Java in nutshell. I know it's not easy to get all the books in Niger, but, As a beginner I would start with the 2 beginning books above. They will help nail down the concepts especially Object Oriented Programming with Java. Then you can move on to other books. I am sure others will have more to say about which books work best for them. But these are the ones that I use. Here is a link to the Java tutorial: If you can't download it, I can zip it up and send it to your PM. http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/index.html I would also suggest that you visit and read (as much as possible) the beginneer's forum at Javaranch below. Obviously, it will help if 24/7 internet access is available. http://saloon.javaranch.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi prettysly: |
Okay. You can download the java tutorial from sun's site. Download the JDK and start practicing. That's the best way to do it. Then if you have any specific questions, you can post to the forums for help. Yes. I am an application developer. Have been doing it before Java even existed. ![]() Good luck! prettysly: |
Well, if that did not help at all, then you need to state exactly what you need help with. You want to learn Java. Okay. Have you downoaled the JDK, do you already have a Java book, do you have any knowledge of programming language? You need to be more specific/constructive with your questions so that we know where you are coming from. I have no knowledge of your background or what you need help with. prettysly: |
Where are you lost and exactly what do you need help with? Netbeans and eclipse are both Integrated Development Environments(IDE's). They aid in developing applications. As a beginner, I would not even advice you to use any of these tools anyway. Textpad is a good text editor that also allows you to compile and run Java applications and applets. For more information on any of these things, or to download textpad, just google for it. richness: |
Under your connection settings, click on bearer settings, there you will see the IP address as well as other settings. At least that's how it is on my 3120, and I bellieve your phone should be similar. Note: It may be called proxy address instead of IP address. omotee4u: |
I would just like to mention that both Western Europe, some parts of Central/eastern Europe, and Australia also use DST. In UK, spain, etc. for example, they change the time the same time we do. More info for those interested. http://www.timeanddate.com/time/dstevents.html chiluvGod8: |
In this day and age physical location has limited relevance for this kind of project. With telecommunication and the internet, you should be able to get somebody and get the project done. |
I am sure you have heard enough. the consensus is that you sit right there, take the 30,000 pounds and build some experience. Actually, that's not a bad starting salary at all. That's about $60,000. Which is a good starting sala ry even in the very hot IT market here. For those in Nigeria, if I may ask, what do you think companies will pay a well versed IT person with say about 10 years development and some years of project/technical lead. On this end those skills easily fetch in the $90,000 and above range. Did not mean to hijack the thread. ![]() |
Everything is public information, thanks to the internet. People that have never stepped foot in Nigeria can tell you everything about the country. Even thought I am there every year (actually just got back on a couple of weeks ago), one does not need to be there to know the facts. Even on this end, a lot of Nigeriand guys that are married tend to have someone on the side, and in most cases their wife's are aware of it, and some still put up with it. Why? probably becaause of the polygamous society that we are all from. Heck! I guess that's why the divorce rate amongst Nigerians in the US hovers around 50%. dennylove: |
While it may not neccesarily be healthy, it happens. Let's face it, as mentioned by zarah, Nigeria is a polygamous society, and that in itself will always open the door to these kinds of situations. |
I do not know about the numbers. But to call any country, you need to dial the international dialing prefix for your country, then the country code and city code you want to call. So, for example, to call a Nigerian mobile(08038889999) from the US, I will dial 0112348038889999. 011 is the Intnl' dialing prefix for the US. If you are using a GSM phone you will dial +2348038889999. The network will automatically prepend the number with the international dialing prefix for whatever country you are calling from. |
Generally, it's a numbers thing. A company will need a whole lot more programmers than DBAs. For example at this current client, I would say we have at least 600 developers. I am also sure we have less than 10 DBAs. It's definitely a lucrative field though. For example, the IT dept of a bank in Nigeria may have say 50 developers, but they will probably not need more than 2 DBAs or so. |
Yes. me think you won too. This is a joke right?deathadder: |
Well, I know java is a programming language introduced by Sun. I am not sure what the software entrepreneurship is or in what context you are referring to. If you want to learn Java programming, get a book, download the JDK, and practice. OTOH, may be you were referring to a course that will teach you Java programming. Geolalisa: |
Exactly what software are you trying to install? The JDK or some Java IDE that came with a book or so? |
Java is a programming language (as youare probably aware). So, I am not sure how that relates to Software Enterprenuership Programme. You know, I am not even sure what you are asking. Geolalisa: |
Exactly! So, one has to ask, what is true and what is not? ell77: |
Very beautiful! I actually have that same CD too. His music and voice is excellent. Another albino singer is Yellow Man (reggae musician from Jamaica). Yes, albinos are different, but I do not see anything wrong with them. somegirl: |
All of you that have responded, should click on OP's name and read her other posts (if you have not done so). I think that will help shed some light. She may have done something wrong and needed some advice, but her other posts may give you some idea of how to/you should have responded. |
I am a consultant and have worked at several client's site. The IDE used at every single place I have been is eclipse/websphere. Well the development environmet is actually websphere (WSAD). As we all know, eclipse is based on websphere. It's the free version of websphere. For my personal development I also use eclipse. We also need to be careful when trying to determine which IDE is preferred. Obviously, the free IDE's will be more popular. So, I am not surprised that eclipse is the more popular. |
Folks! Look at the contact name, look at the email. Look at the prices. Look at the grammer. I am sure you get the hint. What a joke! |
It's very easy. The price depends on what you are looking for in a phone. Where are you located? If abroad, you can probably get the phone cheaper where you are. |
Computer science graduate on this end, means one has done a lot of computer application development/programming, design, etc. So, if you did mostly networking than focus on that. If you did quite a little bit of programming and you think you like it, then do it. You ought to know where your strength lies though. |
Very true. I just came back from Lagos. And, that's one of the most obvious things. A lot of people were carrying the latest phones, even those that can barely afford 3 square meals a day. ![]() Until Nigeria implements a system of black-listing phones, it will continue to be a major problem. A lot of phones that are stolen in Europe (and rendered useless due to black-listing) also end up on the streets in Nigeria. The fact that a lot of folks want the latest phone, will make the stealing of phones, and possible selling at a discount, very common. Panache: |
Yes. One has always been able to login. This should not depend on celtel or any other carrier. I have opera mini on my phone and am able to login to the forum regardless of whose GPRS connection I am using. I was just in Lagos (back in Chicago now). My Virgin UK sim roamed on Glo, so used glo for all my GPRS usage. My local sim was vmobile/celtel, but was not able to login to their GPRS. Even though, I had my phone configured for the settings by visiting the celtel store in palms mall, and I also received an SMS 24 hours later informing me that I can now use GPRS. |
I think this will depend on where one lives. In Nigeria, you can easily find help via family members, or get a maid, and the cost of raising a child is not too prohibitive. So, up to four kids is fine. Here in the USA, you are on your own. It's very expensive to raise a child (day care costs, college edu., medical ins., etc.). I have 2 kids of both sexes and that's it for us. After the mortgage, the day care costs are the most expensive bill in the house. You would not see too many Nigerians in this neck of the woods with more than 3 kids. For one to be able to afford a good life for the kids I thing 2-3 is a good number. Heck! It a whole lot easier to go on vacation with, set up educational funds, purchase stocks, etc. for 2 kids than 4 kids. My kids have gone pretty much every where with me, It would not have been easy if I have to take 4 kids on a cruise, Disney, etc. I am sure you guys get the point, the lesser the number of kids the more fun one can give them. |
Looks like you have a good head on your shoulder and you will be better off raising the child on your own. Just make sure you have contact information on the guy, should you need to reach him for one reason or another. As others have posted, he lied to you about all that stuff. I would also make sure his wife/family at least knows about it. Heck! You do not need him morally of financially, but you sure should not let him get away with it. |
I concur that you should visit the appropriate forums at Javaranch. The forums were helpful when I was preparing for the exams too. I still visit some the forums there regularly. |
I am in Lagos at the moment using glo. The text I sent each cost 15 Naira |
Did I see someone say stay put? What a joke! You should head to the court or whereever and annul that marriage and start a new life my sister. The person you are supposedly married to has not called you in 8 months or so and changed is contact info without informing you. There is a good chance he has found somebody else. Geez! You sound a little naive though. Think about it, if he really loves you he should be in constant contact with you. it sure looks like he does not want you to be in contact with him I know love is blind blah blah blah! But is sure is not that blind. There are just too many signs that indicate the fella has moved on. You have whole lot of life ahead of you. Forget him (and his family)and move on with your life my sister. Good luck! PS. If there was a "betrayal" forum this will probably fit right in there too. |
Yep! I was there (with camcorder/camera in hand) for the delivery of both of my kids. baby pics were up on the net before mom and baby even came home. ![]() |
