A lot of hard work, studying, programming. It takes a lot of dedication and time. Of course, it also helps if you are a good problem solver.
Travel › Re: Experience With Immigration When Traveling With Our Nigeria Passport by Bossman(m): 11:46pm On May 16, 2007
Unfortunately a carrying Nigerian passport tends to raise a red flag. It's not considered seriously as a means of authentication, because it's known that it can be easily obtained by pretty much anyone. I only take it out if I need to. My UK and US passports pretty much cover me in most places I visit.

Yes, it is. I have used them a number of times. Last used them in August last year. Got a Chicago-Lagos on KLM(In september) for $1140 total.

Is Airline Consolidators site safe sha because i don't want someone to scam me oh lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed because am getting a ticket by the ending of May but right now the ticket is like 1500 and something
Travel › Re: Cheapest Ticket To Naija For The Summer by Bossman(m): 5:44pm On May 14, 2007
No, yu do not have to depart from a particular state/airport. But, cities with bigger and busier airports (NY, Chicago, Boston, etc.) will give you more options.

Sometimes the earlier you buy the ticket the better. But that's not always true. The best thing to do is the shop around. Airline Consolidators, orbitz, air gorilla, The airline's website(BA.com for example), etc.
Webmasters › Re: Are Nigerians Abroad Smarter Than Nigerians At Home? by Bossman(m): 12:40pm On May 14, 2007
Absolutely not! Because one lives/lived abroad does not make them smarter than those that did not, it makes even no sense!

Now, living abroad does expose you to a whole lot more things, and also studying abroad will definitely give you a different perspective on things, and very likely make you much more prepared. Typical example is the IT field. You cannot compare a computer science grad from the US with a computer science grad from Nigeria. Not because the one from the US is smarter, but because they have been exposed to the facilities to get a better education and training. The same will apply to other fields. Until Nigeria improves on the level of education that the Universities provide, preference will continue to be given to those trained abroad.

Absolutely indeed! This is not just one of the easy certifications. The fellow has achieved a lot. Hopefully he gets encouraged to go further.

I believe there is another thread on it somewhere here.

Travel › Re: Cheapest Ticket To Naija For The Summer by Bossman(m): 9:53pm On May 08, 2007
Absolutely! I have used them once. Their prices should be similar to what you will get on airlineconsolidators.com, and a little cheaper than what you will get on orbitz.

They are one of the very few online travel sites that understand Nigeria's airport codes. i.e. LOS for lagos. It's legit all the way. I actually prefer them to most of the other sites.

50kobo:
@bossman/ others have u used Air-Gorilla.com before? their prices are so much cheaper than the others, just worried if it is a scam.
Travel › Re: Cheapest Ticket To Naija For The Summer by Bossman(m): 11:53pm On May 07, 2007
That's outrageous for the summer, especially from NY! Check orbitz, airgorilla, and airline consolidators. I have never paid more than $1300 from Chicago to Lagos. And, that $1300 was BA. I paid $720 on Iberia in April 2005. So, look very well. The NY route should be a little cheaper than the Chicago route.

LoVeBoOBS:
The cheapest have seen so far is $1800 from NY JFK to Nigeria Lagos and it's still expensive, so does anyone knows where i can get a good deal from. I need it by the ending of May wink

Travel › Re: Newyork To Chicago by Bossman(m): 10:05pm On Apr 27, 2007
Danville is about 2 1/2 hours drive from Chicago, kind of southEast. Very close to Urbana-Champaign (Home of the University of Illinois). You can either rent a car or take the greyhound bus. Assuming you are flying into one of the Chicago airports. Actually, you may want to look into flying into Indianapolis. It's probably closer to Danville than Chicago is.

You format your sim card (assuming you find the correct software to do it), also means you wipe out all account information stored on it. So, what's the point. It will be pretty much paper weight at that point. Hopefully you've been able to get the settings you need from one of the posts above.

Even though you bought it, paid for it, etc. I think it's still limited to be used on the only the PC it was downloaded to. Think about it, if they did not do that, what's to stop you from making copies of the file to give out, sell, upload to a server, or what have you. It's just a protection feature. Bottom line, it can only be used from where it was downloaded to.

Programming › Re: 10 Reasons Why .NET Is Better Than Java by Bossman(m): 12:02am On Apr 06, 2007
Yep! Makes absolutely no sense. Educate yourself on what you are about to post before doing so. Let's nut start a language debate. Each programming language has it's uses and advantages. It all depends on the task at hand.
Travel › Re: Cheap Air Ticket To Nigeria From Usa by Bossman(m): 12:28am On Apr 05, 2007
Virgin is not neccesarilya the cheapest. You just have to search the European airlines' website. The cheapest I have flown to Lagos from Chicago is $729 via Iberia in March 2005. It's usually around $1100 - $1200 for most of the airlines from here.

Virgin has hubs in several US cities. Chicago is starting again on the 23rd. They used to have a hub here until about 3 years ago or so.

Programming › Re: Help On Course To Choose? by Bossman(m): 12:25am On Apr 03, 2007
Software Engineering is just a "souped up" word for application development/computer programming. Determine what you would like to do, where you may excel, where your skills lie, and just go at it! You may need to play with a coupe of programing languages for you to find out which one you really would like to develop in.

Programming › Re: What Programming Languages Have You Used? by Bossman(m): 11:18am On Mar 30, 2007
I agree. There has to be a line somewhere. The title should probably say "what languages have you used professionally or extensively" I don't think using a language for one semester in school or dabbling in a language for a few months or so makes one versed enough in the language. That's just IMHO!
Programming › Re: Article: Why A Career In Computer Programming Sucks by Bossman(m): 4:43pm On Mar 27, 2007
andre5. Looks like you've had it! How long have you been developing, and in what language do you develop mostly. Would an increase in compensation make it any better for you?

Actually, the idea of learning new stuff is one of the things I really like about app. development. Yes! programming can suck if you happen to be doing something not so interesting. Like others said, one really has to love it to be able to succeed at it. You have to be a problem solver and like to be challenged. I have been doing this for 14 years(half of those as a consultant). Did not go into it for the money, when I started it was not really a high paying job. Never even though I would make half of what I am making now. To top it off, I love what I am doing.
Travel › Re: Making A Friend During Air Travel by Bossman(m): 12:41am On Mar 27, 2007
Why not? if the other party is willing to chat, nothing wrong with it. Usually you can tell, if they do not mind chatting or not. Heck! The US to europe leg is usually so long that any kind of reasonable chat will help. Of course, the booze also helps too. Regardless, I usually can't wait to get of the plane. For most of us in the us we have to endure the approx 8 hour (depending on location) flight to Europe. Of course, having a few DVDs (music, movie, etc.) to watch on laptop also helps.
Computers › Re: Advantages Of Desktop Computers Versus Laptops? by Bossman(m): 3:02am On Mar 26, 2007
Okay, the desktop has all those advantages. But the major advantage a laptop has is the mobility factor. I saw someone mention monitor, mouse, etc. common people! we are talking about a laptop here. You cannot even compare them, considering the mobility advantage of a laptop. I am surfing the net using my laptop on my train ride (just like about 30% of the others on the train) in and out of downtown Chicago. On my last cruise, I was sending pictures I took as soon as we got on the ship from the balcony of my cabin as we to the western Caribbean, on the plane, at airports, I fire up the laptop and I am surfing, listening to music, watching a movie. Heck! On my last trip to Lagos last October, I was able to burn all the pics we took on to CDs and give them to family members immediately we took the pics. On way out I fired up the laptop and picked up a free wi-fi connection at the Murtala Muhammad airport, so I kept myself busy for the hour and half wait for my flight, I can go on and on.

The laptops of today are very powerful so the difference in power between a laptop and desktop is decreasing. If you look at it the other way around, I would say a laptop has more advantages over a desktop. At leasts in my humble opinion.
Romance › Re: .. by Bossman(m): 2:45am On Mar 26, 2007
If the calls are persistent and he is not picking them up, it's is very likely more than just a friend. Even though you visit Nigeria 4 times a year or so, you are not there permanently, and that opens the door for other women to step in, or for him to step out. Just give him the ultimatum to cut out all those friends or you are going to move on, don't worry about what he has done when you are not there, just let him know you want things to change for the future you guys want to have together.
