Not sure how much use this is going to get though. Because of all the nationwide cell phone plans that already include calls to any where within the Continental US and Canada. You'll hardly see anyone with a cell phone in the US that does not have a nationwide plan that can call anywhere within the US for free. Especially with the unlimited night and weekend minutes included in all plans, one can call anyone within the US at no extra charge.
Family › Re: Why Do Men Think Their Extramarital Affairs Are Ok? by Bossman(m): 4:36pm On May 15, 2006
Not sure if it has been mentioned. But, one of the root causes of this is the fact that Nigeria is a polygamous society. So, with that it has become widely acceptable for a married man to have a mistress. Our parents did it and it still happening. Some guy just posted in one of the other forums that he has only been married for one year, and he is already thinking about a second wife. It's really beyond me why anyone would want a second wife.

Geez! Hell ya! A whole lot of things are wrong with a second wife. I can't believe that you are asking that here. Others have responded appropriately. You are an adult, and if anything you should be looking more at yourself if this is what you want to do. You have barely been married, and you are thinking about a second wife. How are you even sure your current wife will put up with that? In this day an age, people are still talking about second wife, na war oh! One wife and kids is a major responsibility, add another one(what for) you just magnify the issue. I am not even sure you should have married in the first case.

Good luck to you bro!

If it has bluetooth (BT)use that, or use a data cable if it does not have BT.
Music/Radio › Re: Koffi Olomide by Bossman(m): 4:13pm On May 12, 2006
Actually, I have quite a few CDs on him. Not sure if I have one with that song though. I will check. You'll like him if you really like soukous(dance) music. Awilo Logomba is another good one. One of his songs "Caroline" is really nice. The DVD is even nicer. I have a number of friends from Cameroon, so I got introduced to some of these artistes through them.
Phones › Re: I Sent Money to A Nigerian Phone Shop by Bossman(m): 11:01am On May 12, 2006
Hazey, what seun meant was that you sent him money in the beginning at all. Because, as we have all told you, it's the same guy. It's no freaking seargent.  If you call the seargent you will see that it's the same person that has already scammed you. They have tasted you, and know that you are vulnerable, and will do anything to try to get more.

We believe you are now fully aware that you have been scammed. But, you still hhavenot figured out that it's the same person that scammed you from day that's sending you all these emails. Send an email to him, that you know it's him and that you are sending all the emails he has sent you to the 419 scam authorities.
Phones › Re: I Sent Money to A Nigerian Phone Shop by Bossman(m): 5:47pm On May 11, 2006
Those are all fake names, names of towns, two first names, etc. This guy wants to get more money from you by all means. To play along with him, you can tell him you have sent the money and give him a fake MTCN #. Also, tell him that you sent $100 extra for quickly nabbing the fraudsters.
Phones › Re: I Sent Money to A Nigerian Phone Shop by Bossman(m): 11:19am On May 10, 2006
Hazey, it's the same fellow. You should know that. I told my friend this story and they all joked about it somewhat, that you should have caught on a little earlier in the ball game.

I am 100%(not 99%) sure it's the same guy. AS others have posted, just inform him that you have reported the case to the appropriate authorities and moved on. If you call the number(don't waste your money doing it though), you'll see it's the same person, or an associate, that answers the phone.
Phones › Re: Where Can I Send Free SMS? by Bossman(m): 12:04pm On May 06, 2006
No problem, Kevwekofi. Things are changing so quickly. I would have to think there would be a free international SMS service pretty soon. Free inter-country SMS was not available a few years ago. Now, pretty much every US carrier and portal offers it.

I have not read this thread in detail. I am in the US Virgin Island right now (on a 7 day eastern Caribbean Cruise). I will reply in detail once I return to the US. But, I think the other members have given good advice based on what you are trying to achieve.
Programming › Re: Cd Database Application by Bossman(m): 10:34pm On Apr 28, 2006
With VB you can create an executable and I do not see any issue there. As for Java, if your app. is web based, then you will need someone to host it, and that provider will needs to be able to host Java apps. So, all you have to do is create a jar/war file and package it for deployment. If it's standalone, then whoever needs to run the app, will need to have the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) running running.

This is a very common application, so there may be packages out there that already do what you are trying to do. All you have to do is customize it to suit you. You may want to try google first.
Programming › Re: Cd Database Application by Bossman(m): 6:12pm On Apr 28, 2006
Visual Basic scales well with MS Access. Java can also be used. You definitely cannot use JavaScript which is just a scripting language, used mainly to make the user interface (browser) somewhat interactive.

It's your call. You can either make it a stand alone application or a web based application. You just need to determine which programming language you are more comfortable with. Do some design and analysis and then go from there.
Programming › Re: Software Development On Java by Bossman(m): 6:00pm On Apr 28, 2006
If by testing, you mean taking mock exams online. Yes, for SCJP and SCWCD it definitely helps to take a lot of mock exams. You also want to read the appropriate certification books for these exams. Even though there is nothing as good as experience, having these certifications under your belt would give you a very good understanding of the concepts. (heck! you are forced to know it). It also looks very good on your resume.
Phones › Re: How Do I Upload My Sagemmyx7 Pics To A Pc? by Bossman(m): 3:48pm On Apr 27, 2006
If you do not have the cable, you can use bluetooth (BT) if your phone has that feature. OTOH, you can just email them to your email address. That's assuming you have GPRS enabled on the phone, and there will probably be data charges involved.
Phones › Re: Recovering V-mobile Lost Simpack by Bossman(m): 9:09pm On Apr 26, 2006
You read us correctly. No, we are not joking. Call Vmobile to cancel the sim, if you do not want them to use it. But, there is nothing like IMEI blocking in Nigeria. So, you are out of luck. Why do you think stealing of GSM phones is very common there? Because, all they have to do is replace the sim, and the phone has just taken on on another identity. If this had happened in UK for example, you could blacklist the IMEI. That means the phone will be prevented (By IMEI#) form registering on any UK network. Hence, it's useless within the UK. But, can of course be used in other countries.
Phones › Re: Recovering V-mobile Lost Simpack by Bossman(m): 7:44pm On Apr 26, 2006
You are correct womedup, the phone security code can be easily spoofed anyway. If you happen to have a sim lock, they may not be able to use the sim.

No I see why phones that have been banned in say the UK networks can still be used in Nigeria.
Phones › Re: Recovering V-mobile Lost Simpack by Bossman(m): 5:58pm On Apr 26, 2006
Call the provider to block/cancel the phone number. If you know your IMEI number and the providers there are able to ban a IMEI #, then have your provider ban the IMEI #. If that is not possible, and your did not have security lock on your phone, then you are at loss. I am sure you can at least cancel the sim though.
Webmasters › Re: Which Web Programming Language Are The Hardest & The Easiest? by Bossman(m): 2:47pm On Apr 26, 2006
I think it was just a "badly worded" question. The probably meant which web development tool. There is really nothing like a web programming language. Java is a programming language, just like C#, C++, etc. It's used to develop applications (web based or stand alone). JSP, ASP are just tools that aid in development of dynamic web applications. They are definitely not programming languages. Just like JavaScript, Perl, etc. are"scripting languages" that are used to enhance the client interface/interaction (browser) of web apps. You can have a JSP page that does not have a single line of Java code in it. It's strictly HTML but it's saved as a JSP file. The bottom line, the question is not exactly clear.
Nairaland General › Re: Nigeria Places 90th Of 115 Countries In It Ratings by Bossman(m): 5:02pm On Apr 25, 2006
Absolutely Hunter! The basic infrastructure first needs to exist. If you look at the African countries that are above us, they all have the basic infrastructure in place. Even Ghana's electricity is more stable than Nigeria's. The talent pool is there in Nigeria, but without the help of the government getting involved with training, funding, etc., we will always be near the bottom looking up.
Phones › Re: MTN GPRS, WAP And MMS No Longer Free! by Bossman(m): 8:13pm On Apr 24, 2006
Most carriers (including here in the US) usually just offer GPRS free during the introductory period. They will eventually charge for it. It's part of their bread and butter so they have to charge for it.  There will probably be packages, bundles, etc. that can be purchased. But, they will be the exception if they do not charge for it. Now, I noticed that their rates are a little on the high side, compared to what we pay on this end, but as time goes on, that will eventually come down.

No No! The guy is Nigerian (the 419 type). He just used fake information to register.

Tell him that you have reported him to the 149 authorities. And that they have all his information. Let him know that you are aware you have been scammed and that you will do everything in your power to make him pay for it.

How can he sue you when he is already up on you. he has got your money and he did not send you any goods. Believe me, if he sues you you he will have to pay you. what a joker he is. He is just trying to scare you.

Let him know that you are already talking to some Nigerians online and that he is about to get arrested.
Travel › Re: What To Do With My Nigerian Passport? by Bossman(m): 5:08pm On Apr 21, 2006
Your passport will come in handyif you do plan to visit Nigeria before it expires. Unless you plan on getting a Visa.

I have always had a Nigerian passport. I visit Nigeria often to keep renewing or getting a new one. Yes, I agree that besides at Murtala Muhammed, it's pretty much of no use. The only time I take mine out is at MM airport. But, I'd rather have it than have to get a visa on my Yankee or British passports. I take all of them with me when I am travelling home and depending on where I am show the appropriate one. You know there are no direct flights from here, so we have to fly through Europe. I show yankee passport at O'Hare, the British one in Europe, and the green one in Lagos.

My advice: Just hold on to the passport. You just never know,
Programming › Re: What Aspect Of Programming Gives You Problems? by Bossman(m): 4:13pm On Apr 21, 2006
At one point or another we will all experience some problem with whatever language we are using.

tju38 asked if anyone is into J2EE programming: Yes, I have been developing enterprise web applications for the past 7 years. Of course, J2EE encompases several technologies, and it's almost impossible to touch on everything. I develop using servlets, JSP, some EJB (actually converting them to straight DAO calls). Currently, where I am we use the struts framework. I also used a propeitary variation of it at a previous client. We use several patterns such as DAO, Facade, anad obviously MVC.

Java is a pure Object Oriented Language. And, one really has to always think in terms of objects. This is somewhat diffeent from procedural languages such as COBOL and C. But, once one gets a good grasp of the OOP principles (a very good book with lots examples will help there), then the rest is just a matter of practice and contionuous learning. It's very important to code, test, and practice as much as possible. Doing that will expose you to a lot of problems such as the common Null Pointer Exception (NPE), and how to avoid it.

It may not be in the Nigerian market yet. But, it's on ebay and several online shops that sell GSM phones. Just google for it. You can use that to estimate how much you can get for it in Nigeria.

That address "34 mcknight avenue" does not exist in that zipcode. I googled the zipcode, and it's definitely pittsburg's zipcode, but the address does not exist for that zipcode. Also, the address is a US address but the country and phone number are for Australia. See below,

I agree, these are the kinds of people that are giving us bad name. Too many programs on TV here have been on the Nigerian 419 scam. You get to work the following day and people are asking you all kinds of questions about this crap!

Tell him you have reported him to authorities. Specifically tell him that you have posted his information to the 419 investigation department in the USA and Nigeria.

Bolting out to catch the train to work, I'll post more when I get on the train or when I get to work.
Phones › Re: I Sent Money to A Nigerian Phone Shop by Bossman(m): 9:27pm On Apr 20, 2006
As you can tell it's real scam. He does not want you to release any detail because he knows if you do, the folks at western union will know right away that it's 419. He wants to make it seem like you are just send him money as a gift or so.

The fact that he told you that his staff (believe me, he has no staff) made a mistake by shipping 14 phones, and that he wants more money, should have indicated to you right way (in addition to other clues) that he is a scammer. Even my 6 year old would not believe that!

Tell him you are going to pass on all his information to the authorities that you know he has just 419'ed you.  You should have done some research before pouring $400 down the drain. Like I posted earlier, I am 100% (not 99%) sure you will not get any goods, and that you will not get a dime pack from him. I will post here again, search the internet for "the Nigerian 419 scam" You may even be able to make a report on one of the websites out there and post all his information there.

Exactly, do what Nwoke said. Contact as many people as you can authorities, his web hosting company, post his phone numbers(he can change those easily though) and email addresses to all the websites out there, etc.

I am sure this will be a very good lesson for you.
