I think you know for sure now that you have been scammed! Agnes & Fred are 2 first names (at least mostly). Since he still have access to the goods, and you have paid him half for the cost of the total deal, ask him to only send you half of the goods and see what he says. You've already paid him half anyway. I know all you are trying to do if see if you can get your $400 back. I do not see that happening. I also do not see you receiving any good at all. Search the internet for "the Nigerian 419 scam" You are just another victim of this scam. The good thing out of all of this is that you did not get taken for a lot of money. |
Agnes sounds like a female's name. That document does not mean jack! Just call him and let him know you want to back out of the deal. Believe me, he has not sent you anything. |
Have you been able to contact him on the number provided? Post the number here and let the folks in Nigeria see if it's legit. You are only down $400 US. I'd say you count your losses and move on. You entered into this yourself so you need to dig yourself out of it. It sure seems like you did not do your homework on the company before dealing with him. So, you actually thought you were going to get a bunch of phones (from someone in Nigeria or anywhere in the world for that matter) for $800 right? Like others have posted, You have information on him, so you may be able to report him to the authorities. I'll let the folks in Nigeria chime in on that one. |
I guess nobody can help. Don't tell me you do not have a contact # for this person. |
I would just like to add that it does not matter if the recipient has a GPRS phone or not. You are not sending MMS. You are just using the "GPRS medium" as a means to send a txt message. Of course, it's not all phones that can do this, so it may not work on some phones. |
Yes, I am from Nigeria. But, I live in Chicago. So you are on your own there. You, as a prudent individual need to able to figure this out. And, most of the time, you should be able to tell what is legit from what is not. A Nigerian supplying phones to you in HK or wherever is a big joke! Try to call the number above and see if you can reach somebody. Also, verify if that number is the same as the contact number of the person. If it is, no point calling, just count your losses and move on. If he has really shipped the goods, and gave you a reference #, then just wait and see if the goods arrive. I can assure you though, that's it's unlikely that the goods were shipped without full payment. Since that means you can easily scam him too. IMHO, I think you are being taken for a ride. I'd say open the door and jump out before the damn vehicle crashes! |
It's called "text via GPRS". It's a loophole that used to work here with tmobile too. Worked for a long time too! They have blocked it now though. It will only work with GPRS/MMS capable phone. The setting varies by phone. But under your message settings, for example on my V551, there is an option to "use GPRS", currently it should be "No", Change it to "Yes". Eventually they will find out and block it. |
Well, if he shipped the goods (goods that you paid only 50% on, very unlikely). Did he forward you a tracking # or reference #? You can contact thet shipper if you need to though: Office Address Telephone 37A Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos, Nigeria. Email: tommy@amxcourier-ltd.com URL: www.amxcourier-ltd.com +234-01-8147062 |
They are going for about $350 US on eBay. In the regular shope they will be a little bit more than that. Most ebay sellers will ship not to Nigeria though. I guess you can convert thjat to Naira to get an idea. http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&fnu=1&xpufu=x&from=R10&satitle=unlocked+w800&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&bs=Search&fsop=3%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search&fgtp=&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=60156&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi= |
This is definitely a scam. You need to run and don't look back! Hopefully you did not loose too much money on this. Have you heard of 419 before. Well, you have now. Anything that sounds too good to be true is definitely not true. If it were true everyone would be jumping on the deal. Nigeria does not manufacture phones. So, how in the world would they be able to supply it to you at all, talkless of supplying at a cheaper price. Hope you learnt your lesson. Edit: At least you are only down $400, as I read in your other post. So, it's not too bad. |
A number of factors will determione the actual transfer rate. 1. The handshaking and protocols between the BT devices. In this case your PC and phone. 2. The proximity of your phone to the PC |
kevwekofi, It's still not free though. They give your 3 credits when you register right. And that allows you to send 3 text messages. I would have to think after that you would need to register your credit card. Have you exhausted your 3 free messages, and still been able to send SMS? If so, then it's actually free. I seriously doubt that. There is no free lunch anywhere. If it were free, everyone would be using it. |
A few posts back someone asked about some JSP resources. here is the book I use mostly of all the Servlets/JSP books I have. This, and also the WROX books are the ones I see at most sites that I have worked. http://pdf.coreservlets.com/ Here is a very solid and free java book: http://www.mindview.net/Books/TIJ/ Obviously, there are lots of good books out there. But, the above 2 are some of the best free books I have come accross. |
Sun Certified Enterprise Architect (SCEE) has to do with archetecting/designing enterprise applications using Java. It's a top certification as far as java development is concerned. But, you need to get a at least the Sun Certified Java programmer (SCJP) before you can sit for it. Since you mentioned you like Java, I would try to lear as much about it as possible. Especially as it relates to developing enterprise web applications. To start with you will need to learn Servlets, JSP, Javabeans, Design patterns, and quite a few frameworks. |
I believe the site posted above is free for only the "test" SMS. For within Nigeria, there is probably none yet, and it's probably just a matter of time. On this end, there are several. The one I use mostly is yahoo mobile. I think it can only be used from within the US though. http://mobile.yahoo.com/ |
Ogonna, I will assume you have bluetooth on your PC/laptop. Just make sure BT is active on both the PC and the phone, the phone should be able to seek and find the other device, and you should be able to use the phone or PC's menu for the rest. |
Another good DB is mySQL. others have already mentioned teh disadvantages of using Ms Access. It just does not scale well. Try: http://www.mysql.com/ |
It may be phone related. I can connect with this one: wap2.nairaland |
Yes. I buy my cards from the website. Actually, I know quite a number of us that do. I have been using them for the past 4 years. You have to register your credit card with them. They will also have to call the number registered with the credit card ONLY for the first purchase. Just to verify that you are the legitimate owner. After the first transaction, everything is without human interference. You pins are sent to you in seconds! |
I am a consultant in this field, and have been for a while. I would just like to add that, every programming language has its advantages and disadvantages. I have also developed in several languages, but have been doing so with Java over the past 7 years. As far as developing enterprise level J2EE (Servlets, JSP, EJB, etc.)web applications, Java has been very successful, and will continue to be. The proliferation of frameworks (struts, hibernate, and so on, ) and usage of design patterns will only add to the advantages of using Java for web development. Yes, Java has definitely not done well in the area of GUI development at all. Also, it will make no sense to use Java for data processing while COBOL is there. Java is also not suitable for the rapid development of standalone apps., when the microsoft tools are out there. The bottom line, every programming language and tool has it's uses and advantages. |
I googled on the GSM bands used in Nigeria. |
