It's not easy getting rid of emotions, more so if they are strong feelings like love, unless the person greatly offended you. You may just pretend to yourself that you do not feel anything when the person is around (I've been there before).
I'll advise you to try to break every connection with that person and get rid of whatever reminds you of her, try not to remain close friends with her, else you will spend each day wallowing in self pity, reflecting on what you should have had but cannot. Most importantly, try to be a man about it, life is full of ups and downs and this may just be that time of the calendar.

Well, it depends on what you want. For me, I can't have my girl dating two guys, but in Africa, there is a level of 'permissive irresponsibility' allowed the man. ima1 just hit the nail on the head. The love and blessings of your family is good in a marriage, but remember that they will not be there to bear ur problems wen they arise (if they do) so you can choose to go on with the man that loves you despite their misgivings. On the other hand, it is not so good if you do not have their blessings because they have always being with you and should be there for you if things go wrong.

My advice; find out the real reason why they dislike or distrust him, is it genuine and based on facts or is it unfounded and superstitious? If it is unfounded, you have to try to let them see why they should love him.

On the other hand, maybe if you tell us how many times ur heart has been broken, we might be able to assess if ur heart has been broken enough (some amount of heartbreak is necessary for you to understand life).
