It's as though this man hasn't seen worse riots where 1 person was killed by the police in other climes. In our country where dozens are killed /abused daily by terrorists and uniformed men, he should thank his stars there hasn't been worse than endsars. In any case, it's obvious government failed to do their job whether or not the endsars protests were hijacked. |
One wonders whether just a taser would have been used if that was a black lady or man! |
koning:Ordinary Ireland!!! You mean a country with 5 million people and similar GDP to ours with 200million people. Things don't work for the majority in Nigeria, |
phemmyfour:Those practices are not unbiblical and have been in the church from the beginning. Check out prayer of saints in Rev 8 Plus the wedding in Cana John 2 Entire Households were baptised in Acts 10 and 16. Besides the bible itself came out of Church Tradition. |
festacman:Re 4 and 5, You would have had a point if things were actually running smothly with the president's 'style'. 3- We can't use the constitution as a getaway here. The fact is a Leader(and who bigger than a country's president) needs to be a good communicator and be seen to lead and motivate. In times of crisis is when this is needed the most. Unfortunately, Buhari's style is a better fit for a finance minister who doesn't really need to be seen. |
Mikelarteta:Not sure you if you read the whole article but I pulled this from it "The Archbishop later revealed that the support offered to Lagos State Government was in addition to the provisions for the poor that he directed the over 180 parishes of the Archdiocese to make in their different localities spread all over the State". The Catholic church is the biggest provider of charity outside of actual governments globally. |
backT:With comments like this and others, there's no hope! Smh. People are in love with their oppressors and expect things to miraculously change |
valicious1:In a department with a budget twice the size of the entire naija budjet. It's all relative, she has a big portfolio regardless of title. She's done well. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Department_for_Education |
Boris Johnson became Prime Minister yesterday and formed his cabinet on the same day! Knew what he wanted and prepared for it. How do we compete with such nations when 2 months later we don't know who'll be heading which ministry. |
OneKinGuy:At least they find a way to make income and use it well. I was just looking at the GDP figures and Nigeria's economy is only 6 times bigger than this tiny country's although we are more than 300 times their population! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal) |
OakPearl:Hmmn, the fact you're able to get the name of this person that was murdered shows they take people's lives more serious over there. Every country has security challenges but there are different levels of risks/threats on a day to day. We've probably had more than 100 Eniola Aluko's brutally murdered in Nigeria in June but just seems normal, it hasn't even made international news. And no names! What is happening in Nigeria is not normal in a country not at war and UK is responding accordingly. Nigeria should also be advising its citizens not to travel to south africa, middle east, libya but they couldn't care less. People will go there anyway. |
If true, of what use is memorising the names of the 71 presidential candidates? Many other useful questions that could be asked e.g. Would be better to ask about specific policies associated with certain parties. Etc |
Bluezy13:In the developed countries we are trying emulate, looters and bad leaders are not respected. They are asked to resign from their position and called out publicly. People would even protest with banners against them. It goes to show we can't keep condoning the immorality of our leaders and expect to progress. Respect is given to whom respect is due. Let's call a spade a spade and call out bad leaders. |
Antoeni:These oyinbos value human life and would rather be safe than risk a plane crash with the drone getting sucked into plane engine. They could have shot the 'common kit' down but they didn't want to risk killing people with stray bullets, they needed special equipment. |
revolt:Regarding his solutions, he's highlighted what a willing government should be aiming for. Better to shoot for the stars and hit the moon than not aiming for anything at all. With our high population growth and low gdp growth we are a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. A government still dragging a 30K minimum wage and expects to fight corruption (no chance). The fact is the pace of development is so slow that there has generally been no positive impact with the 2 main parties (no difference between the two btw). There needs to be a total sanitation of the way things are run in Nigeria otherwise we'll be here in years discussing the same issues while other smaller countries develop. Regarding his attacks, I suppose knowing what he does (and we all know) about our so called leaders, it's better to state it as it is and stop lying to ourselves. He should probably tone it down a bit though but that's his style. |
Ubenedictus:May God continue to guide and protect you and give you good health through Christ our Lord. Amen |
Kamsified:Amen. Thanks a lot. |
SalC:Amen |
jnrbayano:Amen. Good weekend all. |
Rich4god:Amen. Thank you very much |
Abbeyme:Unfortunately, this will keep us stuck 100 years behind others who do not roll like this! |
Rich4god:I choose the 27th. Greetings all, God bless. Good to see this thread still going. |
AutoSpaNg:In a country that’s clearly not working?!!! Martin Luther King once said "This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism". (I have a dream speech) in response to the racial injustice of the time. This quote also applies to our situation in naija. Politics is messed up and not moving the country forward. If the guy wants to run for presidency to change things, so be it. I also understand AAC is got people running for all sorts of offices. The fact is this guy has done grassroot work in other sectors and paid his dues physically and otherwise anyway. |
Could sweet potatoes, lower carbs than rice, maize, yam. |
lloyds:What we need to ask ourselves is this - With the so called ‘leaders of tact or wisdom of words’ that have been ‘selected so far, are we better off security wise since 2015 or 1999 for that matter?. Are we better off in Health, Education, living standards, exports, power, as a nation? The point Naija is at right now needs a radically different approach to the meandering we’ve been going through and we can’t just shut out a guy who doesn't conform to the agbada wearing schemers' ways we've had over time, otherwise we’ll be here in 4 years discussing the same things while the rest of the world moves on. I think we should rather be discussing the points he's raised. |
chronique:Can you honestly say Nigerian politics has been worth it for the majority though? Sometimes you need a total change and a breath of fresh air to move forward. A revolution of some sort. Currently the way Nigerian politics is being run we'll be talking and complaining about the same issues in 20 years time while the rest of the world moves on. |
davidodiba:Not fun as such but operating in the zone of achieving one’s full potential. It all boils down to the theory – Maslow’s Hierachy of needs. Once the basic needs of food, security, shelter, love etc have being attained a human generally needs more motivation – these guys are climbing those mountains because they are operating in the Self actualisation zone. They are taking themselves to achieve what they set out to do. It is the same mentality that has made the whites find solutions to problems and thus keep developing. Some people would have thought it was dangerous to explore the deep oceans but the whites have been able to lay cables down there, this is why we have the internet worldwide and we're able ro communicate via nairaland. Your mates were exhibiting youthful exuberance – this is present in everyone but tends to be taking out of us especially by the African education system. You never know what they could have discovered by carrying on with their climbing. ![]() |
davidodiba:Ironically, it's by been adventurous they've been able to solve their basic issues while we sit and hope. It's a fact a large percentage of items we use have been created by whites - phones, cars, okada, generators, road surfacing, planes, shoe polish, trains, toilet roll, designer brands, football, television, radio, satellite, lightbulb etc. If we become adventurous, our bellies can also become filled with food and drink - which way we Africans? |
Ubenedictus:Yeah, the poster is basically equating a 'Christian' becoming a Catholic Christian to a Christian becoming LGBT! Always shake my head for such ignorance |
STEVENcrack:In this case you'll find that the 'strongest' protestant pastors while trying to search for truth and what early christian worship was actually like , eventually become catholics. There have been hundreds of cases in the past few years. See link - https://chnetwork.org/converts/ ( Coming home network). Ironically, it tends to be the weakest catholics who become protestants. |
mexxmoney:Tradition does not supersede scripture. When issues arise, you go to the church (just as in Acts 15), the church is the one given the power to bind and loose. It is the pillar and foundation of truth (1Tim 3) We've seen how the church has declared on several matters in the several church councils over the century (including the canon of scripture ) |
