The government force people to do the right thing through the laws. If your government does not do that as well as other duties she is to discharge, i blame the government for everything. Let me tell you, all over the world nobody obeys the law because it is sweet to obey the law, no, people obey laws because they are afraid the law will catch up with them. So the government of Nigeria only knows how to play dirty politics and propaganda without enforcing the law and compel citizens to obey them and do the right thing rather abandoning her constitutional duties, then it is not funny. Like someone just said, Nigeria is a joke.
You are very correct. I remember we used to say "the fear of bubu is the beginning of wisdom", pity he has not quite held up to it, but imagine President Atiku forcing you to do what is right. Would you not laugh in his looting face?

A government needs the moral ground to make people obey the law, but this is Nigeria where we loot by right, except, some actually do fear bubu so definitely loot a lot less than they otherwise would have, in my opinion.

It will not surprise you anymore then as to why Nigeria is said to have too strong a central government.
No one says Nigeria does not "have too strong a central government". But as someone said, "Na here we de now", so deal with it or change it if you don't like how it is. Or can't you? Too helpless because you surrender[ed] your freedom and resources to government", so you just wail about it? That's your choice!

I pay tax because I want to and not because I am forced by the government! Thankfully, Nigeria does not tax up to the 25% some nations do, but then neither do we provide the services those nations provide. Perhaps if they did tax you more you'd ask them to be more accountable to you who voted for them!

O! I forget, you already "surrendered your freedom and resources to government", you weak helpless hopeless slave to government!

The only thing the brain of budaatum can process is "buhari's failure is because Nigerians are lazy". His brain is too archaic and primitive to reason beyond his nose. To him, buhari is sent by Allah to rule Nigeria. He sees buhari as some prophet or alfa that must be praised and worship. In short, he is a religion-blinded soul.

Nigeria's biggest problem is accountability.

No system is in place to hold these office holders accountable for their promises and the goods they have to deliver.

Making a hashtag trend on twitter isn't accountability either.

Our legal system is useless when it comes to cases of these nature. We need an independent agency that will work as a regulatory body for government officers.

If they make a promise, hold it to them till they deliver. And if they can't deliver they should be heavy penalties for it.

How person go dey chop that amount of salary with allowances and bribes, and not deliver anything of note to the people who employed you.
It is for this reason, the "No system is in place to hold these office holders accountable for their promises and the goods they have to deliver", that I so like this bubu era.

One thing we are learning like never before is the use of the systems that are in place. When bubu too leaves Aso Rock, our use of the systems in place would have improved such that we might even be able to improve the systems in place.

Oh budaatum, Ignorance is thy name.
If you were familiar with the philosophy of government in relations to the citizen, you will understand what the statement "surrender your freedom and resources to government" means. Let me give you a short illustration. You pay tax not so? The tax represents your resources to government.
This is clearly the difference between knowing history and not knowing it because if you knew your history, you'd know that tax is theft by government and only lazy fuqs allow themselves to be taxed such that it can be said of them that they "surrender[ed] your freedom and resources to government". Tax was in fact the reason US claimed independence from Great Britain, so I can't understand why you would "surrender your freedom and resources to government" of unaccountable thieves! Most don't surrender as easily as you imply.

Agboriotejoye:
Now, consider that you have chosen a certain Saturday for your wedding and the government chooses that same Saturday for an election. Which bows for the other? Your wedding or the election? But that is by the way
It better be "by the way". But for the record, the first step in ensuring government does not mess with the Saturday I have chosen for my beautiful special day wedding that no government fashioned on this earth shall meddle with is make sure I check the diary the government publishes with dates of the elections, and knowing Nigeria, chose a day at least 4 weeks after.

I'm responsible like that.

Agboriotejoye:
I expect you read the op and saw where our medical personnel were praised while available facilities were condemned. I also hope you see where the absence of tap water and traffic lights and controllers were mentioned. Now the constitution of FRN from which the government gets power over our lives makes the security and welfare of the people the primary responsibility of government. I hope you can differentiate government from the citizenry of Nigeria because in actual fact, what should concern you is how a tiny number of people in government are able to have so much influence on the direction and quality of life of larger number of citizens in this nation.
Try this experiment. Go outside and see gutter going down the street, pot holes in the road, and tell me if bubu is responsible to come and mend it for you.

I think you forget we are democratic now. I also think people focus more on Abuja instead of their own local community. We Nigerians get this insidious notion that some power from Abuja will make things right. Some even believe "not by their might" as if good things are for those who labour not. That is why a "tiny number of people in government are able to have so much influence on the direction and quality of life of larger number of citizens in this nation". Its because the majority (and I'm hoping you're a minority on this), "surrender your freedom and resources to government" as if government is your god! And on top of that, you pay them, to enslave you!

The government is the "citizenry of Nigeria", is precisely my point! And my security and welfare are my own primary responsibility. Or where's the logic of expecting bubu to secure my local community if I don't take responsibility for the tiny bit of it that I can?

Agboriotejoye:
The answer will lead you to why it is important that
1. We do not have an autocratic government ever again
2. We should critically scrutinize and appraise the caliber of people we allow into the offices of government.
You talk as if you were not here when we were "critically scrutinize and appraise the caliber of people we allow into the offices of government". Did you not hear us BMC Artikulate and Obliterate Next Level?

It is very important that we do not have an autocratic government, and if our government becomes autocratic and we don't like it we should stand up and tell our autocratic government to stop being autocratic or grin and bear it, and kick their autocratic asses out with our votes at the very next election.

Its a slow process, but gradually, we will get better at "critically scrutinize and appraise the caliber of people we allow into the offices of government", and make Nigeria a place we are proud of.

The truth is that corruption exists everywhere, and in every country. The current administration are simply using it to hide their inadequacies. Have you noticed they blame the past administration for everything? I now know there's a reason why the US played a major role in getting Buhari win. Jonathan was simply too smart, and they needed a stooge to manage the affairs of the most populous country on earth
It is a great pity that many forget the dire situation we were in that led to our voting for Buhari who we had rejected twice!

I think Jonathan would have served us better. When we suffer reach under his incompetence and looting second term that went on in his first term, we might have learnt to appreciate where we are.

You are correct, I know I deserve these things.

Difference is, I was brought up to understand that government is not angel who would bring me the manna I deserve so I go get what I deserve for and by myself instead of waiting for government to give me what I deserve.

I guess the measure of my deserving is my own ability to provide what I deserve. I wish I too had a providing angel in heaven.

Atiku may not have been the best option but, let's be honest, he and his deputy would've been much better than the ones we currently have.
If you were the CEO of a company, between Atiku and Buhari, who would you employ to help your company grow?
Kwarrupshon isn't the only problem we have in this country. Let's forget the current (scam) anti-corrosion rhetorics of the current administration. They're fighting corruption but 2/3 of their cabinet members are former PDP members
Honestly speaking, I think if I put Buhari as CEO of my company, my company might still exist after 4 years, but if I put Atiku, my company would likely not exist after 4 years because 100% of his administration would be PDP members who would be busy being corrupt!

You surrendered your freedom and resources to government shocked Did you want to be a slave?

Maybe many years of history must have failed to open your eyes to the fact that no government in the entire history of Nigeria has ever not been solely responsible for its agents of government - governors, senators, representatives, ministers, president, and the likes, and don't really care about you, which is precisely the reason we are to blame for our poor "health facilities, no traffic control, no safe drinking water and impostor officers".

To start with, irresponsible slave who surrendered his freedom and resources to government", our "poor health facilities, no traffic control, no "safe drinking water and impostor officers", are all manned by we Nigerians, and not by aliens imported from Mars! That's on the individual level. what concerns the state is beyond that level of power.

You're not buying and selling to yourself, you're not your own economy.

Who'd have the final say in what concerns everyone? You can't operate at your fullest potential on your own, you need people.
The skills you learn isn't for yourself, its value exchanged for what you value.

That transaction has to be regulated by independent power who will pay fair to you both.
You can't be that power, because nothing stops you or the other from being unfair to each other.
My own opinion is that we, on an "individual level", have the final say. If I'm fair with you, you would most likely be fair to me. That's not to say everyone would be fair since not everyone has the power to regulate themselves, but if more regulate themselves, and if those who don't know learn to regulate themselves, we will all be regulators operating at our "fullest potential" "buying and selling" and being "an economy", as in, an agency that makes money and society better to boot.

We, have the final say bindukwe. We did not inherit our leaders from Mars; we elected them from amongst we ourselves, with our collective eyes open, dare I say. The only power that regulates transactions between you and I is you and I. We [must] use our individual power to regulate our fairness to one another instead of expecting it to be regulated by higher powers.
