I think you mistake 'syncretism', for "origin". Rome had always been a sacred city, with it's emperors even becoming gods. Christianity opposed the idea of multiple gods and replaced it with one. All the god ideas were then resolved into one single book eventually but understood through preexisting pagan lenses.
