Nigerian creators have been sleeping on this model because the platforms that support it were not built with us in mind. Patreon is in dollars. The fees are mad. The discovery is zero.

Circo is a Nigerian platform built specifically for this. African creators can monetize their audience directly through subscriptions and series content. It just dropped on the App Store and Google Play.

I am not saying chase 500k followers is wrong. I am saying if those followers cannot sustain your creative business, you are building on sand.

Back to this State-policing Wahala, there must still be an elite unit called the Federal police and they will be answerable to only the President. Just like it’s done in the US, the federal police are superior to the State’s.

The current police are centrally funded, so your description is very valid. State police will however not be centrally funded, so one should expect funds to have to change hands if state is funding it's own police.

There's also the issue of a state's police trying to arrest a protected person in another state. A rogue governor might (note, might) refuse to permit another state's police to come into their state to arrest their padi.

Do note that federal police in USA, of which there are many agencies, are limited by the U.S. Code to investigating matters that are explicitly within the power of the federal government. This was an issue with federal ICE in some states.

Nigeria should clarify this to reduce confusion so state police, that we definitely do need, works effectively.

No I will not. Even my Osun State is now paying salaries, and even salaries owed from the Aregbe era when half salary was paid. I can however tell you that my state does not pay enough teachers by not hiring enough of them.

What we do is send youth corpers that we don't pay into our schools to teach, such that it's not unusual to find just a handful of qualified paid teachers in our schools. And it's been worse lately, as we are at war with our neighbours so not safe for corpers so no teachers in schools.

I actually commend my governor for paying what he does pays, as the losing party have hijacked local government and the allocation.

No one is claiming regional police must be by fiat. I simply proposed it as a means to limit governor control of police. They have not asked for my opinion and are unlikely to listen to me if I offer it.

It should be. The law can after all be changed so it is recognise for the purpose of regional police. After all, they are proposing a change of the law to recognise state police.

That said, we have Amotekun in my state, and there's that horrible hisbah in some states. Abolishing those for state police might be a huge leap forward.

I myself am advocating for fiscal autonomy and resource control for states. My Osun State should not be reaping where it does not sow, and states that sow should be able to reap where they sow.

A state that produces oil should not be feeding Nigeria. And I don't expect it is state governors alone who would oppose my advocation. The federal government will oppose it too as they'd lose their financial power, which would personally delight me.
