Workch:Please write a flat earth hypothesis for me. |
The good thing, if its true, it is USA who will suffer, because China who supports Africa, for their own interest no doubt but which is to be expected, would be highly appreciated by Africa who would then sell China what China need instead of selling it to USA, then USA would need to buy more finished products from China and go into further debt with China. |
Crystyano:I think you are the one with problems! And no, you are not lying. Crystyano: |
obehi247:I see you don't only want to enslave yourself to your former colonial masters, you also want to be a slave to mogs! Instead of praying to be empowered to set up a ranch for yourself so you can be a master in your own ranch, you pray for Adeboye and Oyedepo to set up ranches and enslave you in it. O Lord God, please don't let me be like this individual. In Jesus name, Amen. |
obehi247:And you are obviously a slave to what you choose to believe and you'd hopefully one day put in the effort to emancipate yourself instead of enslaving yourself to your former colonial masters who have already said they don't need you no more. |
Workch:Statement or problem: The earth is flat. Prediction: If you walk to the edge of the flat earth you will fall off the earth What happens if your hypothesis is false: You will not fall off the face of the earth. Workch:This is very true. Scientists do not even believe theories and laws that have been tested and found to be true. They either know them to be true (at least for now and until further evidence suggests otherwise), or they do not know if they are true or not. Please put it down to my conversing in the religious section. Workch:I can almost see how you'd say it is not a scientific hypothesis, but I can't really see how you'd assume I presented it as a belief or that I am being fanatical about it unless you allowed your own beliefs to blind you from the point being made. As I've said, Statement of problems: Earth is flat If your hypothesis is true: You will fall off the edge of the earth Else: You will not fall off the face of the earth because the earth has no edge to fall off. What's funny is how you fail to see that it actually was a real hypothesis until someone set off on their scientific ass to see if it were true or not true. Might that be because it does not neatly fit into your own field of science, or because you never bothered with the history of such things and assume its modern day fanatics? Workch:I wonder if you recall a conversation we once had regarding work. You wouldn't engage in doing the work then neither, so I'm not surprised you still haven't, but I'd have you consider the sort of hypocrite that buda would have to be to be preaching work to you while doing no work oneself. No, science, as in use your senses to verify your hypothesis or claims, is not easy to grasp. Its why lesson one is, open your eyes, instead of creating crap inside your head and lazily believing it to be true. Its also why I teach it here with use your senses Eve, instead of dumb ignorant don't bother to even look believing Adam. Hard to grasp for the lazy, I assure you, especially for the blind, and moreso for those too afraid to test their own hypothesis to pluck the fruit to test if they'd surely die. So let me present you with a hypothesis. Workch hypothesis You, Workch, will someday see how far apart we might not be. Of course if you don't see we'll just drift that much further apart. Do the science now, for there's no point claiming "13 years of my life submitting scientific papers" if you can't apply any of it to those you engage with here. When you do, and only because this is the religious section, perhaps we'd engage in a discourse (not an argument, mind, nor a debate) about why the understanding of some pits their God against science, especially when no God could have ever created anything without some knowledge of the science of creating things. P.s. Professor Brian Cox has a wonderful 5 part series called Human Universe in which he speculates on the origin of life. In one episode, he touches on the Big Bang where he suggests the obvious, which is that something big had to exist to go bang. He does not present it or the bang as something to be believed, but something to consider for further scrutiny, though I do wonder how he intends to 'observe' it. |
triplechoice: triplechoice:You give him too much credit. The only person he is attempting to deceive is himself, and he obviously fails woefully at even that. He says there is no karma, then sits on his lazy ass wailing about hunger while begging for food on Nairaland. |
Tinubuadvocate:We had lots of money and lots to buy lime bridges, and everyone loves big spenders. Sorry joyandfaith. I see now where your Tinubuadvocate comes from. |
joyandfaith:I miss the point of your "Tinubuadvocate". Could you enlighten me pleaee. Regarding the abandoning of the parliamentary system for the presidential, as young as I was at the 79 adoption, I wept but understood why Nigeria had to go that way. You'd find that nations that have military interventions tend to go presidential. The reason for this is they think it is close to a dictatorship, which tends to be the case in not so well educated nations especially if they then have majorities in both houses. In parliamentary UK however, and as President Biden is finding with his now revised $1.75 trillion social spending plan, an educated and informed electorate can easily scupper any leaders plans even with a majority. The problem is not the constitution, but an adherence to the constitution, is my own opinion. That said, your's is noted. |
Workch. May I ask if you are not just intending to get into some sort of battle with buda or something, for first, you claimed not to want to discuss with buda and now all you seem to want to do is insult buda. It's not that I mind or anything, since I have the patience and the thick skin, just that I wonder, if you are as educated as you claim, why you can't have a civil conversation without the insults. Or are you not aware that I appreciate what can be learnt from you? Workch:It was an intentional choice. You'd have known by my flat earth if not for your need to find a source of argument. The following is from a nondescript website called livescience. It is intentionally chosen because it references Popper. The science in its title is not to suggest I am presenting it because it is scientific. Personally, I'll call it a layman's definition and less of a scientific one. A hypothesis is a suggested solution for an unexplained occurrence that does not fit into current accepted scientific theory. The basic idea of a hypothesis is that there is no pre-determined outcome. For a hypothesis to be termed a scientific hypothesis, it has to be something that can be supported or refuted through carefully crafted experimentation or observation. This is called falsifiability and testability, an idea that was advanced in the mid-20th century a British philosopher named Karl Popper, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica.Note that a hypothesis need to have been tested already, or observed, as you suggest, just that it must be testable, or as popper would have it, falsifiable, or to use your words, observable, and since one can clearly go and observe if the earth is flat or not, I'd suggest it qualifies. Heres another from an even less descript source: What Is a Hypothesis?Note, "prior to conducting research", as in before going off to observe, as opposed to already observed. Now here's a third. A hypothesis, on the other hand, is a specific prediction about a new phenomenon that should be observed if a particular theory is accurate. It is an explanation that relies on just a few key concepts. Hypotheses are often specific predictions about what will happen in a particular study. They are developed by considering existing evidence and using reasoning to infer what will happen in the specific context of interest. Hypotheses are often but not always derived from theories. So a hypothesis is often a prediction based on a theory but some hypotheses are a-theoretical and only after a set of observations have been made, is a theory developed. This is because theories are broad in nature and they explain larger bodies of data. So if our research question is really original then we may need to collect some data and make some observation before we can develop a broader theory.Note, "a specific prediction about a new phenomenon that should be observed if a particular theory is accurate", and not one that has already been observed. Workch:I have now shown you the hypothesis of my ignorance so you may observe before you begin to educate buda, for which I am grateful in advance. It would after all be improper, I think, for you to start building your theory about buda upon a hypothesis about buda that you have no intention of observing before adopting it as a belief about buda. One more thing. Please do not tire. The work is plenty, but those here to educate us are few. |
joyandfaith:The key statement from your link is the following and it's right at the top: "The military believes in central control, and that is the problem of Buhari himself" When the Fourth Republic of Nigeria began its current democratic dispensation, I said that Nigeria is in for at least 20 years of rule by military. It seems I was out by perhaps 4 years, and that's because of Civilian Ebele. Still, I think I might have been conservative, because the military mentality runs a lot deeper than I thought it did, though Buhari has not been as militant as I thought he might have been. If he had been, 200 year jail terms without trial would be the norm for any corrupt person found. There's a well known institution of people in Nigeria with a constitution that clearly states that "thou shalt not steal", and "thou shalt not bear false witness" etc, but I'm certain you are aware that many members of the institution would steal and pay a thing called tithes and be blessed by the presidents of these institutions for so doing. My point is, a constitution is just a piece of paper with words on it that need to be interpreted by human beings. And gradually, we are learning. This is seen by how we are now challenging aspects of our constitution in a courts of law. By so doing, precedents are being set upon which we could build on, and sections of it would be amended for legal reasons. Rivers State for instance is challenging to keep the Vat it collects. Starting all over again sounds like you think we'd now have, if not perfect, a more fit for purpose constitution, but since it will be interpreted by we humans, and take years, I can't help feel you and Afe delude yourselves, especially regarding the before the 2023 election date. |
joyandfaith:It's not just hatred for British Crown, Joy, but a lack of love for our own progress, which is a result of our ignorance. Obasanjo, whom I can not stand, was talking about parliamentary style of governance and said, "how can the opposition and the government be ruling together?" In his eyes, opposition meant enemy, which shows how our mentality shapes our constitution instead of our constitution shaping us. You just need imagine Buhari as president, and say Jonathan as prime minister or vice versa. The only way they could possibly get along and rule is if they've agreed to loot the nation dry, and even then they are likely to fight over who gets what. That was the predicament we found with Azikiwe and Balewa. They themselves might not have been fighting but their supporters sure did. The 1960 Constitution is based on the English form of Government, which is based on historical practice and traditions, which we do not have and never had the opportunity to cultivate because of our constant chopping and changing of constitution. You might be surprised that United Kingdom does not even have one. |
joyandfaith:We are not, "Other Commonwealth nations", and if what Barr Farotimi wrote is true, he has already provided us with a reason to address the supposed "days of evils" so we don't go rushing blindly into them I would have thought, after all, no constitution is so perfectly written in stone as to be unamendable. The question here is what we amend to, and we can't be ruled by Britain ever again. And besides, whatever constitution we may have will end up in days of evil if not properly implemented. Here's a task for you so you can see how badly we implement our current constitution. The local authority of the London Borough of Lewisham, which is the equivalent of local government in Nigeria, has a website where agendas and minutes of council committees are published. Check it out and then compare it to the publications of our senate and house of reps on their website. Nothing shows better how inept we really are and how far we need to go to get things right. We must strive more, I say, and not delegate our duty and responsibility to Britain. |
joyandfaith:Nigeria has said it is wrong for them, obviously, which is why is has been abandoned like almost 60 years ago! The Monarch of England can not ever rule Nigeria again. |
Workch:Not necesarily on observation, Workch, and unfortunately, the word itself has been basterdised, just like the word belief is basterdised to imply some sort of knowledge which it isn't. One may hypothesize that the earth is flat and has an edge, and an ignorant person might run with it and claim the earth is therefore flat. That is what believers do. A Scientist would however take their eyes to the supposed edge of the earth to apply the scientific method to test with the use of their own senses to see if they would fall off the edge of the supposed flat earth or not. That said, it hope it seems to you that I at least know as little as Merriam Webster.

joyandfaith:She signs the same sort of thing at the beginning of every UK parliament. She even comes to the House of Lords to inform parliament and the nation what "my government", she calls it, intend to do in each session. But she is pretty much powerless in UK and much more powerless in Canada. I suggest you read up on the 1649 beheading of Charles I of England. You might begin to understand how powerless the monarchy actually is. |
BlackyOne:Pity they aren't, but I'm certain you are aware that responsibility starts at voting age which those kids are not at yet. Kind of points out why we of voting age need to be even more responsible, not only for ourselves, but also for the children in the link and other more vulnerable people amongst us. They after all are our responsibility, so we should not neglect our duty towards them. Hopefully, you are involved in your alma mata. I'm the secretary of mine. |
joyandfaith:As in, write a new constitution? One that respects true colonialism? With no insult intended, you are now using your brain. So long as it - the constitution I mean, and not your brain - does not involve a return to colonialism, which by the way is impossible. However, our current constitution actually gives us what we want. States are contesting the federal governments right to keep the Vat it generates, for instance, and it wouldn't be long before cases appear in court requesting the right for states to keep its own natural resource. It's why I'm delighted Court Freezes Account Of Benue State Government. Its federalism in action, and more states will soon follow, including, sadly, my own ill-run State of Osun. It will teach us to better manage our affairs however, starting with making us more conscientious in choosing those we give the responsibility of their management to. |
joyandfaith:I asked you when Canada gained independence and have not seen you respond yet. It might make you realise the difference between Canada and Nigeria. What saddens me is while some smaller nations are growing in confidence in themselves, some Nigerians want to return to sucking their mothers breast at the old ripe age of 60+. “The time has come to fully leave our colonial past behind,” Barbados Governor General Sandra Mason said in a speech on behalf of Prime Minister Mia Mottley, which announced the country’s decision to remove the Queen. “Barbadians want a Barbadian Head of State. This is the ultimate statement of confidence in who we are and what we are capable of achieving.”
|
Phraences:It's amusing that you have to say this. Some who believe God created all human beings often behave as if some separate God created atheists. |
joyandfaith:Remember like you were there, or remember what you read somewhere lol. I'm being a pedant, of course, but in order to understand the British, one must understand how they use their English words. |
joyandfaith:That does not make the British saints anyhow you wish to see it, and returning to their governorship is a ship that has long sailed. Just think a little. Do Kanu and Igboho not sound like those who agitated for decolonialisation from Britain and for self rule? Do you think they'd like to free themselves from what they perceive as their current master only to serve another? |
joyandfaith:That she is a figurative head with even much less power than she has in the United Kingdom where she is the undisputed Queen. Thus, within Canada's constitutional monarchy the sovereign's direct participation in any of these areas of governance is normally limited, with the sovereign typically exercising executive authority only with the advice and consent of the Cabinet of Canada, and the sovereign's legislative and judicial responsibilities largely carried out through the Parliament of Canada as well as judges and justices of the peace. |
BlackyOne:Please! If you earn that much, I'm very certain you'd be able to afford a Nigerian existence where those things you listed would affect you a lot less than if you were on minimum wage. As for your "some of you derive in praising the way the country is heading", please pay attention. First. Currently, we Nigerians are steering our country in the direction it is going. We do not elect our leaders frim Mars or Britain, but from amongst our selves. Second. I am Nigeria. And if I do not like the way my Nigeria is heading, I should get the fuq off my lazy ass and become responsible for my steering my Nigeria in the way that I want my Nigeria to go instead of sitting on my lazy ass wailing and blaming others for steering my Nigeria where I would rather it did not go, because if it goes where I'd rather it did not go, it is Nigeria me who suffers. Democracy gives me the power to be responsible for my own karna, while colonialism and military rule takes that power from us! Now, you might want to claim that you are not the Nigeria that I claim to be, or that you are not responsible for how Nigeria is, but I would put it to you that if you are not building up our nation, you are part of the destroyers of our nation. joyandfaith:Decided or enticed, either ways, it was slavery, and you should not expect your slave master to treat you like you were their child, because their child was not bought for the pittance of mirrors and gin! |
joyandfaith:Do you even know when Canada got its independence? We did not want the British Monarch to rule us anymore is the point! If the British monarchy had treated Nigeria how they treated Canada, we likely would not have minded. Or do you seriously think we Nigerians are completely devoid of a brain? Note how I'm peppering my post with the Colonisation of Adam and Eve. Nigeria's agitation for independence was a result of us eating the fruits of knowledge that they had hidden from us, and when our eyes did open, we refused to remain enslaved. If you have a Bible, go read how pissed off the Coloniser of Adam and Eve was when he lost his free labour. It might help you understand Britains complicity in the destruction of our nation and also explain to you what must be done to fix it instead of begging to return to slavery in Eden. |
joyandfaith:Neither constitution worked for us as we well know. If they had worked we would not have resorted to a war to resolve our differences. But that's not quite the point. Asking us to return to some romanticised colonialism is dangerous. Anyone who knows about colonialism would understand how enslaving it is, and even if you were too young to understand what Nigeria was like under the British, you should at least know how bad South Africa's Apartheid was. Or perhaps that's me being assumptive of your knowledge. Heres some reading to help you. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apartheid?wprov=sfla1 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bantu_Education_Act The British were much more subtle but no different, as far as their rule in Africa was concerned. Those who've studied Europe would tell you that while they were telling you to believe the Bible so you can be ignorant compliable Adams, they themselves were plucking the fruits of the Trees of Scientific Knowledge and turning themselves into sense using free Eves.
|
hupernikao:Very bad education indeed, except that hardly anyone reads Animal Farm believing animals spoke while quite a few believe a serpent spoke in Genesis. You just ask people if you think I am wrong. Let me know how many people will accept that imaginary Eve likely reasoned for herself that eating the Fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil was desirable for acquiring Wisdom. She after is written to have not surely died, but freed herself from slavery in the Garden of Eden, and became self employed, and lived for 800 or so years during which she is written to have populated the earth with billions of human beings some of who are now on the way to Mars and Jupiter and Uranus. |
joyandfaith:How can sensible people vote for stupid leaders? Is it not true that it is senseless people who vote for senseless leaders? As for your 1960 Constitution, I guess you don't know how it placed our nation in the precarious situation that resulted in a civil war? Do you really think Nigeria can survive with a prime minister and a president at the same time, or are you just shouting 1960 constitution without even knowing anything about it? Even the British who helped you write the 1960 Constitution do not have such a stupid arrangement which is similar to having two captains in the same boat! |
obehi247:I guess this is the point where you show your color in full. obehi247:
|
obehi247:Oh. You guessed? Now why am I not surprised. After all, you did guess you'd be better off enslaved to colonialists too. |
obehi247:The same "emancipation document from way back in history and its the 1960 independent constitution" that you wish to tear up to return to pre-1960? Thankfully, sensible Nigerians will not let you turn back the clock of time. |
