Unfortunately, the situation is quiet different for Vets here. As a vet, you have to pass their licensing exams (which cost about £2500 in total) before you can practice. And you have to do all parts of the exam here in the UK.

And preparing for such an exam will take whomever at least a year because:

1. it's almost like an un-learning and re-learning of everything you are taught in Nigeria. Your years of experience almost never counts. This is mainly because we are taught from a theoretical point of view while here it's more practical.

2. The system is structured such that the pass rate is LOW.

3. Plus, you need to "see practice" that is go to vet clinics, hospitals and farms to observe clinical and non-clinical procedures before taking the exams.

For a start though, you can check out this website where all you need to do, the exam curriculum, past questions and pass list etc have been listed.

But people pass o. I personally know about 5 vets from Nigeria who are practicing in the UK now. But they all will tell you the same thing- it's a lot of hardwork. Only ONE person passed after a year. Others took more years than that.

The GOOD NEWS is that with the new Boris-led Brexit Government, the Vet Council here is considering hiring unqualified vets to do some vet jobs usually taken up by European vets e.g Meat inspection etc. But this consideration is still in the early phases and not yet concrete.

So unless, your husband can come in through another route then take his exams then...

Aggressive testing is the only means by which we can ever know if any curve is been flattened. As it is, that is not happening. I guess we ll have to live with this virus until a vaccine is found. My only worry is asymtomatic ones will continue spread this virus to the vulnerable ones and that will cause more severity and more death.

NB: for those who do not believe the virus exist, may ur vulnerable loved ones never catch it. Even seemingly healthy people do die. I guess we don't know someone who knows someone who has it cos of the silence culture with this type of thing in Nigeria. Rem how pple didn't believe hiv/aids existed? But then, we are free to believe whatever we want! Afterall its a free world�

We recently started thinking of moving our young family to the uk perharps with him going first ( we have three young kids ages 7, 4 and 1). I recently read about the tier 2 visa, but we are confused as to how he can start applying for jobs. Will he just start searching online for vet jobs in the uk or there is a special process for this. Thanks in advance.

Congratulations on being in one of the most sort after jobs in the UK, I moved to UK last year January on tier 2 Visa as Radiographer, I must say it is the best decision ever, I got 3 job offers, Southhampton, Manchester and Scunthorpe, after lots of enquiries, i decided to move to Scunny, because it is a cheaper and more economical place to start life in a foreign land, and i also had colleagues working there, In my almost 1 year plus here, i have achieved a lot of which in 10 years back home i would not have achieved, UK is the best place to practice Radiography in the world, here you can get to the highest level of this Profession, I am being sponsored by my Trust for postgraduate studies in Medical Ultrasound in University of leeds, about to buy a house, bought a new car, moved my family, got my UK driving license, etc. All i can say is, do your internship and learn very well, Luckily i also finished from UNICAL, we have one of the best Medical School graduates, From Nysc start your registration with HCPC, get it and start applying for jobs, get skype interviews, and by the time you are through with service you must have gotten a job and take it from there. Go get tested please. If it is the one contribution you are able to make to better your communities and lives even during this pandemic, please do it and do it safely. From my understanding, the test is at no cost to you, so what have you got to loose?

U saying this as if getting tested in Nigeria is easy. I called NCDC number, wasnt going tru. I tried their whatsapp no, after much questioning and holds they said they will get back to me. A doctor eventually called me the next day, asked me several questions (same as the initial person i spoke to). He eventually asked if i have shortness of breath and i said no. He said they will get back to me but i have not heard from them since last week Thursday. Since im better now, ive decided to forget the whole ish. My only concern now is that 2 people in my house are now down with malaria, and one of them is coughing.

What did other countries do during their lockdown?
Expand testing massively, contact tracing, strengthen their health systems, and isolate infected ones.

In Nigeria, we did lockdown for 5 weeks and so far only managed a paltry 10,000+ tests in a population of 200m. That was a very unproductive lockdown. You can't identify a reasonable percentage of the infected individuals that way, and cases will only continue to rise anyhow.

If the government is not going to do massive testing, identify and isolate most infected people, then a lockdown is just a waste of time because asymptomatic people will keep spreading the disease unknowingly, and the poor masses will suffer greatly from it especially since there wasn't even any reasonable palliatives distributed to people to ease the effects of the lockdown.

U said my mind. Lockdown without aggressive testing is waste of time. It means we will be on lockdown forever.

when I was about five years old, my dad made a law that no body in the house should speak pigin English. either English or Urhobo.. that night was a solemn night for everybody. we were are so mute until he left for work the next day... on returning the next day from work, he enquired "where is makpo"...? no reply" he repeated it like three times, I got tired and decided to try my luck in answering as a waffi girl.. I replied "he is chopping for palor".. see laugh, everybody crawled out of their hiding place, the boisterous laughter that followed was something I could never forget.. and that was how the English matter ended.

Think rationally.
One straight reason could be that
Ghana(population-26m) has done about 70,000 tests in the past weeks, meaning they have identified and isolated most of the infected citizens. In Nigeria(population-260m), we have done less than 10,000 tests and are already complaining kits are finished.
Based on our population, we'll likely have more cases than Ghana and we are not even there yet.

In as much as I believe COVID-19 is real, but it has been politicized in Nigeria. Malaria is generally more deadly than COVID-19. But in Nigeria we know the effect of malaria is not widely felt compared to the whites.

malaria get drug, if you go to health centre they might even give u free, this disease does not. it relies on immune system to fight. one can never predict how it will go if one contracts it. even the healthy ones do die. Pls lets stay safe.

Abstinence from what exactly? The op said the aunty is married with children. should she have abstain from having sex with her husband? why no lets open our heart of understanding and learn. sexual intercourse is not the only way of contracting the disease.
