The rise of religious sentiment and political agenda in tandem with the northern hegemonic oligarchy have sealed the coffin of progressive politics in the go-political region. As things stand now, the southwest is under the marauding force of the feudal lords who are ready to crush anyone on their way. The looting of public fund and misappropriation of public funds which the northern political hegemony is notorious for is already enshrined in the southwest. Nepotism, incompetence and political banditry now ravage the southwest. The southwest should brace up for political harassment, killing and imprisonment. The era of peace in the southwest may be over soon as the present political class join their northern counterparts to unleash terror and horror on their people as they consolidate their power and grip. Corruption brings easy money. The bankrupt political class in the southwest need cash and that can only be obtained by the corruption-enabling federal government controlled by the hegemonic feudal northern politicians. The southwest political class are throwing their people under the bus to align with the politicians from the north. The southwest is under siege. How long this lasts will be determined by the Yoruba collective power to change their present political class. |
helinues:Your argument is flawed. Enduring a government that welcomes leaders of bandits and terrorists in government house while persecuting peaceful protesters is madness. A government holding party with bandits, terrorists and kidnappers has lost the moral rights to challenge peaceful protesters. We have a government which constituents are Boko Haram terrorists, killer Fulani herdsmen, Fulani bandits and kidnappers while it declares war on peaceful protesters in the south. That government is a threat to public peace. |
jude79:On what scale will Nigerian system of government be compared to that of America? What yardstick are we going to use? Nigeria is the exact opposite of what Is good about America. Nigeria has long way to go. America, with all its imperfections, is far ahead of Nigeria. |
The ancestors of Yoruba Muslims saw this a long time ago. No wonder extremists in the north allege we are not true Muslims. Now we know. |
Spaxon:The wind of change blowing in the Islamic world will gradually expose the hypocrisy and criminality of Shariah north. What is practised in the north is not Islam but Arab voodoo at its worst. |
jude79:Exactly. What Americans rejected Trump for is nothing compared to what Buhari has done. Nevertheless Nigerians are helpless and cannot even comment. |
There is one powerful takeaway from American presidential election : A bad government must be pushed out of power without compromise. There is no middle ground in dealing with a government that is totally irredeemable. Bad government is a product of bad persons in political office. Rather than resign to fate, Americans take their destiny into their own hands and work for the fall of Trump presidency. He is kicked out of office. Nigerians should also be reminded that they are not the only ones bedeviled with bad government. As demonstrated by Americans, there should be zero tolerance for bad government. The only option on the table is to bring it down. No shifting of ground and no negotiation. A bad government only gets worse with time. |
stayclearofme:It is worse than silly comparison. Not even the pre-colonial African monarchs enjoyed the unbridled authoritarian power the present executive president and governors are exercising. Our government is an aberration and a disgrace to mankind. Checks and balances have been bought over. Our politics is poverty-driven. Most Nigerians are in politics for the money and not to serve their constituents. |
Activist001:The democrats, as represented by Biden, are of the belief that the black lives matter movement is as a result of institutional racism that needs dismantling. Once the inbuilt racism is eliminated or reduced to the barest minimum, the blacks will have a sense of belonging and drop their agitations. However, Trump, in his usual narcissistic form is denying that institutional racism exists. And he is therefore escalating the race crisis in America. |
Buliwyf:We Nigerians are used to coping with problems rather than find solutions to them. Take a typical Nigerian street that has no drainage channel and is therefore flooded when it rains. The rational move is to contact the local government authorities. However, Nigerians, having resorted to fate, and believing those people in the local government are untouchable, will start arranging stepping stones inside the flood water. This mentality is driving some of our interpretation of events that are unfolding in America's presidential election. |
thesicilian:You betray your support for Trump here. Insinuating that his successor will be worse off than him is being fatalistic. The direction Trump is taking America is tantamount to Buhari's romance with the killer Fulani herdsmen and bandits who are now celebrated in government houses in the north. Trump is empowering white supremacists and other renegades that will make America become a banana Republic. |
Pure politics at play. Striking a little fear into Donald Trump. Taking the narrative away from him to make him feel the heat a little. |
Vaughanlanrewaj:My opinion is the Americans have built fail-safe feature in most of their institutions to accommodate human deficiencies and unpredictability. This is why Donald Trump cannot make voting "inconclusive" in battleground states and counties that eventually determine the winner. |
Vaughanlanrewaj:But the beauty of it all is that he is being called out and no secret service is harassing anyone. No gagging of freedom of speech and protests are allowed. |
America, from where Nigeria copied the presidential system of government, has once again proved that democracy needs vigilance to be a useful tool of governance. We are reminded here in Nigeria that governance is too serious a business to be left to politicians alone. It is also demonstrated to us that there is no institution so robust and formidable that cannot be compromised or undermined by unscrupulous and rogue citizens. We watch right before our eyes as Americans defend their democratic institutions and prevent the rise of authoritarianism. It is now clear that the people are greater than the government in power. Nigerians should learn from the Americans how to uphold the rule of law and respect for institutions. We should not be intimidated by politicians who are directionless and visionless. We are to be relentless in our pursuit of enforcement of the rights to speak and organize ourselves to enthrone a government that shares our values and beliefs. |
wakaman:No, romancing. |
vanbonattel:How can IGP be part of a sectional bloc that represents a regional political body and be comfortable in their gathering? What message is he passing to the rest of the country? |
On one hand the federal government is pretensiously dangling the olive branch at the youths. It is setting up panels, committees and mandating them to liase with the youth in knowing their grievance. The government is deceitfuly putting up funds to enable the youth have access to financial aid to set up their own business. This government is making official pronouncements on government resolve to dialogue and negotiate with the youth. However, on the other hand the government is heating up the polity by its usual divisive means and persecuting participants in the endsars protests. Government officials, who are of northern origin and occupying sensitive federal positions became tools of the regional bloc, Arewa. They assembled and deliberated on sectional agenda and had the audacity to be part of such ethnic body while still holding their federal offices. They could not and have not dissociated themselves from the press statement emanating from the gathering. Is this not a threat to national unity and cohesion? Is there any sense in their stand for Nigeria's indivisibility when the gathering itself is a threat and and danger to national unity and security? What peace is a government that is persecuting participants in peaceful protests after? This government cannot claim to be democratic and respectful of citizens' rights to peaceful protests while at the same same time hunting down those who participated in endsars protests. At the end it shall be clear to all those power mongers that government is accountable to the people and not the other way round. |
While APC was in opposition, Lai Mohammed justified all his propaganda on his right to free speech and his constitutional protection under democracy tenets. He was the APC attack dog, and there was hardly a day he would not issue press statement to condemn actions of the PDP government or their programs ; to attack the person and the office of the president; he never saw anything good in the PDP-led government and used the freedom he enjoyed to paint Jonathan's government bad. In fact, it was the unrestricted attack and demonization of the Jonathan's administration that swayed the voters to support APC in winning the election. In contrast to the right to freedom of speech he enjoyed under the Jonathan's government, Lai Mohammed has succeeded in turning Nigeria into a police state where it is increasingly becoming a treason to express our democratic rights. He has criminalized freedom of speech and rolled out laws after laws that turn Nigerian citizens into slaves. Lai Mohammed is a disaster as far as democracy goes. He is a nazi-era personality who is an anachronism in this age. Nigerians should be digging out Lai Mohammed's statements and press releases while he was the opposition spokesman during Jonathan's administration. His hypocrisy and undemocratic credentials should be tabulated and presented to him as a dossier. His romance with celebrities and social media influencers must be tabled before him to remind him of his past pact with them when he was destroying PDP and Jonathan. Lai Mohammed must be shown his past and made to see the danger he constitutes to the present in the light of his voracious and deadly assault on liberty, democracy and freedom of speech. |
Arewa constitutes both the core North and the so-called middle belt. To those who are not good students of Nigerian politics, middle belt might be seen not to be comfortable associating with the northern political hegemony. However, a keen watcher of political events in Nigeria will be ready to lay bare the inner working of Arewa and the attraction that keeps the middle belt in the union. I will illustrate the diehard position of eminent middle belt politicians with just two of their own. The first is Audu Ogbe, the former agriculture minister in this administration. During his tenure, Ruga was initiated. Rather than condemn it, he wholly supported it and went about spreading lies. Notwithstanding that Benue state, his state of origin, was under herdsmen siege, he was emphatic to see Ruga implemented throughout the country. The fact that hundreds, if not thousands of his kinsmen were killed and many more displaced was not enough to let him have a change of heart about Ruga. Rather than rescind his policy stand, Audu Ogbe went about renaming Ruga as cattle colony. This was at a time many Benue indigenes had been killed and thousands were in internally displaced persons camps right in their own state of origin. The culprits of this crime were the herdsmen militia, also known as Fulani herdsmen. What manner of man does that to his own blood? Audu Ogbe did it as a mark of upholding Arewa fraternity. Yes, he sacrificed lives of his own people so as to have a prominent position in Arewa. David Mark is another Middle belter that is living all his life to defend Arewa. He is a known supporter of dictatorship and enemy of democracy. What he and Audu Ogbe have in common is the total loyalty to Arewa, whether it benefits their people or not. The recent developments in the country, especially as regards endsars, has revealed Arewa as a subvertive political bloc that is ready to truncate democracy. Their stand is Anti-Nigerian. They issue press statement that threatens the cohesion and unity of the country. They are of the illusion that they own Nigeria and can therefore dictate to the south. Most of the suppressive policies of the government appear to have been initiated by Arewa. Arewa publicly issued press statement directing federal government to suppress freedom of expansion. Is this not what federal government has been doing? We are now more convinced that this administration is acting out script written for it by Arewa. This is subversive because Arewa does not own federal government. |
The wild goose chase by the south to embrace the so-called middle belt is turning out to be a mirage afterall. Notwithstanding the killing by the rampaging herdsmen and bandits, the middle belt seems comfortable remaining part of the North. Together with the core North, the south is seen as a conquered territory to be raided. No southerners should be deceived by the middle belt. The cover enjoyed by the corrupt political class of the middle belt will not allow them to break free from the core North stronghold. The middle belt should be allowed to carry its cross. No unsolicited solidarity from the south should be extended to the middle belt. Most of the anti-south press statement from the northern governors forum are read by the Christian middle belt governors. The south must not allow the middle belt to slow down its march towards emancipating its people. The middle belt should be left alone as part and parcel of the north. Religion should not blind the south into forming any alliance with the middle belt. A loyal slave is more deadly than his master. |
RedPhoenix:I am not Igbo, but as one people, I am equally sad to see Ipob portraying Indigbo in a very bad light. |
RedPhoenix:Ipob is not just leading naive indigbo to the slaughter slab, but is unfortunately causing problems for the peace-loving ones. |
agadez007:Wike must be from Abeokuta, Ogun State, If your misguided statement is anything to go by. |
omenka:Kanu is a fraudster who is masterminding the killing of his own people for financial gain. He is using his gullible supporters as bargaining chips to feather his own nest. |
From Enugu, through Aba and to Oyigbo, it has been tales of woes for the supporters of the so-called Supreme leader of the rag tag group, Ipob. While heeding Nnamdi Kanu's call to attack security forces, they have suffered loss of lives and brought destruction to their communities. While fanning the embers of hatred for his own selfish agenda, Nnamdi Kanu unfortunately is dangerously raising a new generation of Ndigbo who are ready and willing to die for the greedy and self centered Nnamdi Kanu. Gradually, Ndigbo are breeding extremists that have surrendered their thinking faculty to the dictate of Nnamdi Kanu. They have been brainwashed into thinking Nnamdi Kanu is the solution to the challenges confronting them. Should Ndigbo allow Nnamdi Kanu to determine their political position, it will spell doom for their relationship with other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria. Now is the time to reign in Ipob and prevent the catastrophe which the group will lead Indigbo into if not checked. No government will negotiate with or bow to the demands of Ipob. Ipob must disband and allow Ndigbo to have decent and respectable groups to champion its cause. |
limeta:Spotted. Fanatical supporter of Atiku despite he is a Fulani and one of the ring leaders that almost bleeded Nigeria to death. |
Yoonsung52:From the peak of mountain Everest? |
The inconsistency of Nnamdi Kanu is in tune with the dubiousness of Dele Momodu and totally aligns with the agent provocateur role of Femi Fani Kayode. The three of them always want to be visible on the national stage. Their usual method is to latch to issue that generates strong public emotions. They play with the herd mentality of the people and ride on their emotions to gain prominence. They have nothing to offer. Their only article of trade is to swim with the public tide to be ever relevant and prepare themselves for some political spoil in the future. Nnamdi Kanu as a secessionist has nothing to do with Femi Fani Kayode who just concluded his nation-wide tour of some states in Nigeria. And Dele Momodu is notorious for promoting the so-called corrupt politicians Nnamdi Kanu is lambasting to gain prominence. Nnamdi Kanu deceit in his pursuit of his elusive Biafra blew open when he supported Abubakar Atiku for the office of the president of Nigeria. And Dele Momodu is a shameless journalist whose income is sourced from corruption of politicians and their associates. And Fani Femi Kayode has chosen to remain a career politician with no known means of livelyhood. As a lawyer, how come Femi Fani Kayode is not at his chamber? Which cases has he won in court for his clients? Ipob remains a fraudulent scheme run by Nnamdi Kanu to deceive his gullible Igbo followers. He is also in league with some unscrupulous Igbo politicians to arm-twist the rest of the country into conceding the presidency to the Igbo. The futile and dangerous misadventures of the duo of Femi Fani Kayode and Dele Momodu to whitewash Ipob as a friend of the Yoruba is a wasted effort. Yoruba will only work with the Igbo who share our political agenda of a restructured, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria. |
IdontGivAfuck:Let the condemnination of this government be splashed all over the media, and it should be done relentlessly. Let the the tweets and retweets be made to amplify the evil this government represents. Let share and copy the disasters that have befallen this great country since this administration came into office. Then you will know it is no rant; spreading awareness about the dangers this government represents is as powerful as street protest. Lai Mohammed knows this, reason he is suppressing freedom of speech. |
From public education, to public health institutions, we Nigerians watch as things deteriorate right before our eyes. We are helpless and cannot arrest the decay and the rot in the system. We fold our arms and conclude that the situation cannot be corrected. Consequently, we all start adjusting by sending our children to private schools and those who can afford it send theirs abroad. Same goes for our health institutions that have become slaughter houses while quack doctors are setting up private hospitals and health care facilities. We cannot help the situation. We adjust accordingly. It becomes normal ; it is no more strange and repulsive. Our humanity is corrupted and debased. The roads are now death trap ; electricity supply is a luxury ; public water supply is now in history books ; waste is a common sight all around us; and town planning only exists on paper. While all this is happening, Nigerians have lost hope in government and the political class further reinforce the people's despair by making things worse in all ramifications. Nigeria is now a ruin with vultures, hyena and maggots calling shots. As if the misery Nigerians are passing through were not enough, Insecurity is now a new normal in Nigeria. Tens are killed almost daily without any government intervention ; kidnappers have finally got a Foothold ; bandits are now freely exercising their unrestrained power ; Boko Haram are permanent feature of our national life. The question now is : where is government? The government is busy on how to suffocate the citizens through protest ban, free speech abolition, total control of citizens lives, poverty deepening and engaging in other nefarious political maneuvering such as passage of water bills, Ruga establishment and the rest. The government is completely alienated from the public and appears to be the public enemy number one as things stand now. Nigerian government as presently constituted is the number one problem of the country. It is the problem and at the same time part of the problem and can therefore never be the solution nor source of the solution. |
Is there any explanation for deaths by trucks in the south? From statistics more deaths result from trucks accidents in the south than in the north, How can this be explained? From Enugu to Ondo, trucks are killing at alarming rate. Same goes for petroleum products tankers. How can this trend be stopped? Can Federal Road Safety Commission offer explanation for this disturbing data please? Is government even doing anything about it? Are our roads that worse than in the northern part? The alarming deaths from trucks and tankers in the south is scary. |
