Yahya Jammeh, former president of Gambia has left Banjul, the capital to begin an indefinite term in exile. He left just after 10.00pm for Conakry, along with President Alpha Conde. To rub his large ego, he was given a full ceremonial honour by the military brass band and a red carpet treatment. According to a journalist who witnessed the departure, some of his aides wept openly on the tarmac, while “others outside are still celebrating”.

His departure was confirmed by President Adama Barrow, now waiting in Dakar, Senegal to return home and start his government of ‘inclusiveness’ and transparency as he promised on Saturday. “I would like to inform you that the 2nd President of the Republic of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh has left Gambia. #Gambia“, Barrow tweeted at about 10pm Nigerian time.

Hordes of journalists and a battery of photographers had camped all day at the Banjul International Airport waiting for his departure, after an agreement was reached Friday night with President Alpha Conde of Guinea and President Abdul Aziz of Mauritania, for him to vacate power voluntarily.

It is not clear where Jammeh will end up eventually. He flew out with President Alpha Conde in an aircraft owned by Mauritania. After landing in Conakry, Jammeh may finally be heading to Malabo, capital of Equatorial Guinea, ruled by another African pseudo democrat,Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo who has been in power since 1979.

Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose said yesterday that the truth about the releases Chibok girls will be made known one day to the whole Nigeria and people and people thought it was just one of his antics as everybody knows that he is an ardent critic of Buhari government. Taraba state governor, Darius Ishaku, has joined log list of celebrities, politicians, social influencers urging Christians in communities affected by religious crisis,especially Kaduna State to express their constitutional rights to self defense or face been wiped out by some of these Islam extremists that have continued to wage war against them.

One of the social media influencers the other day called on the Christians to rise up and urged CAN to buy guns for Christians instead brokering peace with Muslims, that it doesn't work. Many people were calling for his head.

Speaking against the backdrop of the repeated attacks on Southern Kaduna and some other christian communities by some extremists in some parts of the North, Ishaku said Christians should not fold their hands and watch as they are wiped out by these extremists. He said this at a thanksgiving service organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to celebrate the new year and to also pray for victims of Southern Kaduna massacre and other victims of terrorism across the country.

Ishaku spoke through the Secretary to the State government, Anthony Jellason, who represented him at the event.

“I was at the site of the mayhem in parts of Ardo Kola this morning and the level of destruction there is unimaginable. A few weeks ago, it was in Gassol, then Karim. We are all aware of what is going on in Southern Kaduna.

The people must wake up from their slumber and defend themselves. You can’t just lie down and allow yourselves to be annihilated by other groups. You have a constitutional right to self-defense and now is the time to use it. The government alone cannot do it”he said.

FIFA’s council has surprisingly voted unanimously in favour of expanding the World Cup to 48 teams from 2026. The FIFA Council has rubber-stamped plans to expand the famous competition from its current 32-team format from 2026 onwards.

Delegates in Zurich were asked to vote on four proposals to make a change or stick with the existing format. This is the first time since the 1998 World Cup that changes have been made to the make-up of the tournament.

It means the 2026 competition is set to feature 16 groups of three, instead of the more common four-team groups.

Abeg which kind life be this? Everybody in this country is as angry as "person wey die for accident" sort to say. Imagine this kind of story abeg. Someone shared this story on net and it is as touching as it can be. What a world we are living in. He returned a lost phone to the owner and he was nearly beaten to death for his good deeds.

His name is Walter Masuku and he said that he picked up a phone in a a drinking joint last Sunday night, waited two days for the owner to claim it and when that didn’t happen, he decided to insert his sim card and use it.

According to him, a, when the owner came and asked for it, being ‘the good man he is’, he gave the cellphone back. But that turned out to be a bad mistake, because he was beaten to a pulp by the owner, who accused him of stealing. The attack lasted for 30 minutes. Narrating his ordeal to Daily Sun SA, Walter said one of his friends borrowed the phone.

“My friend used the phone and gave it back to me. I left it in my room and went for the car wash to wash my car.” He said there a man approached him and demanded he give him the cellphone because it belonged to him. “I told him it was at my house and as soon as I finished washing my car, I would go and get it for him.”

Later, they went to get it but the man wanted his sim card, which Walter had misplaced.

“He started swearing at me, calling me names and when I tried to tell him I could buy him a new sim card to replace the one I had lost, he started beating me with fists and klaps and kicked me all over my body.” Walter said his friend sold him out. He said what upset him was that when he opened a case, the police weren’t co-operative and he felt justice was not going to be done.

When Daily Sun contacted Loate police spokesman Captain Samuel Sebola, he called him in and confirmed that a case of assault had been opened. “There is no way the police can refuse to open a case for someone. When our members went to see the suspect, he was not home but the matter is receiving attention.”

Hardly in Nigeria you hear an impeachment because once the government of the day favors you, you can do anything you deem fit but this is coming as a surprise. The speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Idris Garba has been impeached.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria NAN, Garba was removed by members of the house in the morning of today being 3rd January 2017 and Alhaji Isa Idris was elected as his replacement. Garba’s impeachment makes him the third speaker to lose his post in recent days across Nigeria.

Last week, Abia State House of Assembly had three speakers in the space of 24 hours. In Rivers, speaker Adams Dabutorudima resigned as was replaced by Ibani Ikuinyi–Owaji.

This got to be one tragic end to the year 2016. 26-year-old Keiana Herndon’s family says she loved sharing her life with others through Facebook live videos. On December 28th Herndon went live on Facebook with her 1-year-old son. In the video, which has since been deleted from Facebook, Herndon started talking about her plans to go back to school, and showing off her one-year-old son Rylee.

Then she started singing, but shortly after the video started, Herndon’s demeanor changed. Her aunt, Barbara Johnson who saw her on Facebook Live said:

“She go to whipping her face and shaking her head, and I was thinking, what’s wrong with Kei? We call her Kei. She then, she fell back and then Riley picked the phone up and started talking and playing and then I hear (gasping) then I heard one more … I didn’t hear nothing else.”

Herndon’s father, Richard, said that after she collapsed, the number of viewers kept growing but nobody was alarmed enough to call the Police or call her to check on her to see if she was alright. It took thirty minutes after she fell before one of her friends went to her house to see if she was okay.

The video ended when one of Herndon’s friends got to her house, saw her on the floor and called 911. Unfortunately, Herndon did not make it. Her mother, Mary Morgan, tried to explain what may have triggered her collapse, she said:

“She had thyroid problems. The thyroid messes with everything and it triggered her heart. It’s a tragedy, I know that much, and I know one thing, I would love to have my baby back with me.”

Richard couldn’t believe people were able to continue watching the video even after his daughter collapsed. He said he wished someone had acted sooner:

“It’s amazing for someone to sit there and see somebody or hear them take their last breath, and nobody did anything,”

“For her to leave two kids so young. So early is … I don’t know how to deal with it,” said Richard. “As soon as she fell and she didn’t grab the phone back, they should have done something,” her half-sister Keishun Brown said.

Herndon is being remembered as a “beautiful, free spirited and loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.”

Residents of workers village in Nassarawa State were thrown into mourning following the tragic death of a man and four members of his family on New Year Day.

According to reports, the party which includes father, his son and other family members were on their way to the wedding fatiha of his eldest daughter when they had a head on collision with a tanker along Lafia - Agyaragu road.

A staff of Dalhatu Specialist Hospital, who confirmed the incident said two persons sustained various degrees of injuries and were admitted at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital.

President-elect Donald Trump is praising Russian President Vladimir Putin for holding off on retaliation for new sanctions imposed by the Obama administration for its alleged interference in the U.S. election.

Trump on Twitter praises Putin's "Great move on delay." He also added, "I always knew he was very smart!"

Putin on Friday condemned a new round of U.S. sanctions against Russia. But he said Moscow would not retaliate by expelling American diplomats. Trump has been slow to criticize Putin and has questioned U.S. intelligence linking Russia to campaign hacks.

Trump is planning to meet next week with U.S. intelligence officials, but he says it's time for the country to move on.

The spokeswoman for Russia's Foreign Ministry says some of the diplomats ordered expelled by the United States have been in their posts only about two months. Maria Zakharova was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying Friday that their short tenure suggests they could not have been involved in cyber attacks on the U.S. election process.

Chinese Government has officially opened the world's highest bridge for traffic. The highest bridge in the world at 1,854 feet has finally been opened to traffic. The Beipanjiang Bridge in southwest China has been built to save motorists more than four hours in journey time, according to China’s CCTV broadcaster.

The 0.83 mile-long four lane bridge opened to great fanfare after it took more than three years to build.Equivalent to a 200-storey building, Beipanjiang has just overtaken the Sidu River Bridge in Hubei province to become the world’s highest.

Because If you respect your partner and the alter where the name of the Almighty God is called, you can’t come and make promises to mere humans and forget about it all; most especially now that a little child is a product of your matrimony.

Because if you do, prior to your wedding I’m very sure there are behaviours that are evident if you have taken enough time to get to know your husband. Federal Government has played down reports of a subterranean plan by the opposition elements to assassinate Governor Nyesom Wike. The President, through his media aide has responded to grave allegations of an assassination attempt on the embattled Governor Nyesom Wike through the planting of an explosive device on his plane. Rumours have linked President Muhammadu Buhari and other All Progressives Congress members currently at loggerheads with the governor with the plot.

Responding to Governor Nyesom Wike’s allegation, Presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, simply said: “The President will not descend to Wike’s level. He is the President of Nigeria.” Similarly while the Police in the state said they were not aware of the plot, APC in the state said the governor was being hunted by his past.

According to the state Police spokesman, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, the allegation had not been brought to the attention of the command. He is hunted by his past – APC On its part, APC, through its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Chris Finebone, said the governor was merely frightened by his past, saying: “The APC believes that Governor Nyesom Wike’s utterances today, (yesterday) at his party’s event in Port Harcourt remains typically symptomatic of someone caught committing a heinous crime who has become confused and decides to pour dirt on anyone in sight.

Governor Wike’s accusation that APC is planning to bomb his plane simply underscores the extent to which the governor has become hysterically frightened by his own shadow and his past iniquities. “It is unfortunate that Governor Wike has become helpless in dealing with the outcome of his past actions but constantly suffering psychological relapses. However, it is unfortunate that for want of credible defence of the many serious accusations against him, Governor Wike is resorting to releasing wild accusations against the APC to mask his helplessness.

The APC simply takes pity on the condition of the governor and honestly prays he gets help very quickly before his situation gets out of hand.”

Fayose also said the performance of the 2017 Budget would be the worst in history, adding that more ministers will lose their jobs, a dollar will exchange for N600, a major political party would emerge to dislodge the All Progressives Congress (APC) from power, among others.

Fayemi countered him and said - it was insincere for Fayose to roll out his purported 22 predictions without foretelling anything good about a country. He said: “If someone has made 22 predictions about his own country and none is positive or good, you can be sure the predictions are for the person making them.

“For me, 2017 will be a year of astounding buoyancy, greatness, fulfillment and accomplishments.

“It is true recession has made things difficult for everyone , but we can see that is already giving way to noticeable stability which will soon yield results across all sectors of the economy.”

Fayemi said the Federal Government is working hard to fix the economy and make life easier for Nigerians. The minister spoke after a special Christmas thanksgiving service held at St. Martins’ Catholic Church, Isan-Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area.
