This write up is too good, but how many people can do it. Most job seekers want Money not job. To explain my point more, I am a HRconsultant, each time I've opening wanted to assist some unemployed people and put call across to them, guess the type of question, HOW MUCH IS THE SALARY? Moreover this people have no work experince, they don't tink of any other thing other money (Salary) it pays to work.
What do I want before? Is it not because of money I applied to work? If I have a money plantation in my room, will I apply for the job?

Leave passion and the rest. We apply for jobs primarily because of the money.

Not only work for free or ask for cleaner job. Because thats why people are spending 4yrs+ in school. For every one of ur examples who got lucky there are 300 in this country starving and living broke. Anybody dt cnt pay salary doesnt need staff, do ur work urself. Will ppl not need transport fare, feeding? Yet time tht cnt yield money shld be spent on free work. Nonsense.
I tire for that Op. After 5yrs in school, I should be working free of charge. People nor go say I dae under spell .

That is the biggest depression one can get after school.

Work for free in this present harsh economy. my dear you might get depressed after some time except the firm decide to give you some stipend for transport or feeding.

I disagree with the work for free point. In this Nigeria? That's how you would remain in that company for years working for free. Many employers simply have no conscience o.Some get unnecessarily moody when its time to pay salaries.Thats to tell you they want someone they can use for free! When the person that tries working for free sees hunger staring him in the face, nobody go tell am to talk to e legs and move to where he is sure of even 5k.

Again,do u live in Nigeria? Prices of everything has skyrocketed. Those of us that are even lucky to have a job paying small change still find it hard to save something reasonable monthly;so you advise a person to surrender himself for free work?Sorry o.So when your landlord comes for his rent, you would pay with your experience abi?Or the person won't eat and take care of other necessaries requiring money? So He would dress up,leave his house to go work for free?Even the parents would weep for him!

For those who are still dependents, eating" mummy thank you" a.k.a free food, its not a bad idea since your parents would even give you money for fare to go for your free work .For those who are independent, with bills to pay all by themselves, that's a very dumb thing to do.It's better to work for little pay than for free. The remuneration is what motivates people to give their best at work, since they know they are paid something for their services at the end of the month.
Its not a guarantee that a manager would see you and make u a staff with benefits. That's one hell of a gamble!
My dear... you aren't far from the truth. After 5year in the university, I will start going to work for one man free of charge. It doesn't make sense now. A time will come when you will get depressed no matter the experience you derived from the work. That work free is not a good idea for me anyway.

Immediately you leave service, you are directly or indirectly faced with responsibilities. You are thinking how to start living independently, sending money to your younger ones, paying miscellaneous bills. Who will pay my bills when I start working free? How will I plan when I start working free? That idea is literally wrong for a young man that have series of plans. You can work for little amount not free jare. I go university for free?

If you don't see a job that will pay you, find something you can sell to get money. Nigeria economy is not smiling.

Yes bro I totally get you.

Knowledge in itself should never be taken verbatim... You should seek out what is applicable. Most times you can still learn a lesson or get motivated even if the story does not apply directly to your life.

For some generally applicable books, check out the list of 10 I mentioned earlier. Even in these ones its still left to you to choose concept you believe will work best.

For example the book Eat that frog contains 21 time management techniques. Of these 21, I only use 7 and they have improved my life greatly. Another person may need only 3 while some might go the whole 21.

Make every man pick the cap whe fit am cheesy
You are right Sire. What we actually need is what will transform our lives. Books is indeed an indispensable tool. Books make you grow and build your inner confidence.

I ve book mark this thread. I will always make reference. I have some romance books I want to digest this period to put my romance life in a higher tone.

Not easy.

while I agree with you that there's a big difference between africa and the the USA for example, the USA is not a perfect system. Yes you do have better opportunities in the developed world but it is definitely not utopia... watch a business news channel like cbnc for one day and you will believe the same.

1. most of the laws taught in these books are universal. The are not restricted by geographic or economic situations.

2. I have read " How to stop worrying and start living" by Dale Carnegie and the principles will help your life anywhere... that is if you really believe them. People have worries everywhere, and worrying has never helped.

3. A lot of writers eg dale carnegie and Robert kiyosaki lived during the great depression and other depressions which is quite similar to the conditions in africa now

4. in africa we have our own advantages: lower taxes, lot of untapped resources and opportunities, cheap labour. Africa is also going through problems, depressions, and rapid developed, according to kiyosaki that's the best time to become a millionaire.

Those books are powerful but will benefit you only if you have a positive (lacking a lot in nigeria) mindset about life.
You are right anyway about circumstances occurring in the states but not as harsh as Nigeria. I said earlier, it takes one with a powerful might set to walk according to the guidelines of some of those books.

I ve read some foreign business books and If I decided to apply 100% of the principles here in Nigeria, my business might not spring forth. Only very few of those books have a generally acceptable principles irrespective of geographical location.

Apart from the religious books and the Prince by Nicollo machiaveli the rest are not worth the time. Majority were written by Capitalist minded authors for advanced capitalist societies which have little bearing with a typical African and his view of the world. I have said it that I prefer to read a motivational book by an African using African examples of sucess than reading a western book full of examples from the west .
You are right Sire.

Most of the illustration and examples in those books are only obtainable in the western world because of the kind of system they operate. Their society is almost in a perfect state unlike Africa. Most time, it's often difficult to apply what you read in such books here in Nigeria because it's a two different world entirely. Most of the rules and laws in such books can't work here in Nigeria because our system is so archaic.

My dad happened to be a lover of foreign books. His array of books run into hundreds. I Ve read most of the above books because of my dad. He makes sure I read any when he is done. Sometimes I tell him, this books only work in an idea society but unfortunately we aren't in one. So I just read them to build up myself and make good contributions during debate or arguments.

I'm reading a book now tilted " How to stop worrying and start living" by Dale Carnegie. All the examples illustrated in the books are white men. I didn't see a classical example of a black man. I became worried. When I know how worried an average Nigeria is when he gets up from bed every morning. I couldn't apply them because I get worried over many things. It is easier to be less worried for the white because the government take their burden as his unlike Nigeria where the government doesn't even care if you existed.

Those books are powerful but it will benefit you only if you have a foreign mindset about life.

The world is indeed wicked. When I saw the baby last sunday on NTA newsline, I couldn't eat that evening again. There is this strange cold that entered my body that night till the following morning.

According to the doctor, the baby lost one of the testes, the scrotal sac was demaged and he might experience serious problem in sperm production. I couldn't help but weep. How will an innocent baby begin to suffer at this early stage of life.

The step mother agreed she committed the act but the devils work. May God punish her and the devil together. She must be charged to court for attempted murder.

May God give the baby the ability to bear this pain in life. I wonder what will happen if the baby later grew up to know what her step mum did to her... You can never forgive such person in life. this world is indeed wicked.

You can only have a stable, buoyant and vibrant economy when there is peace in all sphere of the country. Please ask Nelson Mandela.

If Buhari continue to create unnecessary tension in the country, obviously Nigeria will greatly suffer, just like we are experiencing now.

Buhari should be diplomatic and be an advocate of peace. He should consult Yar'adua grave and ask his spirit how he maintained peace during his short tenure.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: There's Three Factors You Can Provide To Get A Job: by butanep(m):
What is the Op even saying... there are thousands of people with good working experience, good result and good dictions that are still jobless. Certificate is overrated in this part of the country that's why we all go to school then come out to start begging for jobs.

If you like Get CCNA, CISCO, JAVA, ICANN ORACLE etc. If you don't have someone to connect you to a good place to work, you will just be there. The connection is either from God or man. But if you don't have the right connections, those certificate might just be a waste until you begin to apply your sense in the right direction. The system is just too corrupt. It takes divine grace to hit that dream job without connections in the present Nigeria. I am not advocating that acquiring certificate is bad but the rational behind it. It shouldn't be primarily aim in getting a good job but to develop ones academic skills in order to create something from it that can sustain you

We need start changing the orientation of undergraduates and secondary school student about going to school to primarily look for jobs. Let them begin to use their holidays to acquire skills they have passion for instead of playing video games and sleeping all day. Let us inform them to get an alternative to the glorified "Certificate" being celebrated in Nigeria. There are people without certificate that are obviously doing fine in the country.

I have a friend who graduated with a first class and ORACLE certified yet without a good job because he has no godfather. Let us stop investing all our time in school to get that paper called certificate. Let's begin to think what we could do peradventure the certificate fails. Investing your whole time to acquire a certificate when your parents are not connected is a big risk.

People without good results are getting good and fantastic jobs and those with very good results are roaming the street looking for jobs all to no avail.

Education is very good but what we acquire here in Nigeria is certificate and not education.
