Ah ah ah excellent. That camp part of NYSC what scares me. They should scrap it. But the essence will be lost. Actually, if i was in charge of the NYSC program. I will postpone the program for 2 years. So if you are waiting to serve, and if you graduate between 2009 - 2011, you get a pass. But you will receive a letter confirming the pass.

During this period of hold, the entire system will be redesigned to be more efficient. Improved assignment schemes, facilities improved, training for NYSC officials etc.

Oh well one can only dream. Hopefully, when I become the President of Nigeria. I can do something.

If you have confidence in yourself, able to think quickly on your toes, willing to study and learn hard everyday, willing to dedicate hours of continuous learning, study J2EE.

You can use that to compare salary and pretty much if you can develop your skills, you have extremely great opportunity awaiting you.

.NET is also great both have a bright career path. Most Java related career trump .NET

Many of the things you may end up learning, they may wont teach you in class. You will have to learn yourself. Get the necessary tools. Invest in a good computer, get some softwares, and become a code monkey.

Search on Google and read about both .NET and J2EE. So you have a better understanding of what both entail before you swim.

Sometimes it is until you try several things then you can be sure of which part you want to take. I did programming in .NET, It was interesting and fun, later I lost interest. Not challenging enough. Did PHP/C++ I will consider my programming in these two languages as above average. After 4 years and moving around. I found my love. I am in love with data warehousing (extraction, translation, loading, reporting). It is more interesting to me.

So you might have to try both to find out but I wish it could be possible for you to find what you like at once.

Job security is more important than pay. But the higher the pay the better. It was yesterday a friend of mine told me that her boss asked her to take a 10% pay cut after she agreed to take two positions in the company. She is probably going to request for her pay to remain the same or stop working in one position and taking a pay cut. Now her boss is going to be like if she wants to take a pay cut that means she does one job and he has to employ another person per time = more expensive. I do hope he will agree for no pay cut just remain the same.

I wish I can get a guarantee of employment before stepping on a plane. But it is extremely difficult if I am not on the ground as a couple of people have indicated.

In my opinion, I will advise you to

1. Create a custom search engine for the site instead of using the Almighty Google.

2. Hide poster's email address. This is because email harvesters can harvest and start spamming the poster.
- generate a random string in email format
- the new string is only valid for the duration of the post
- match strings to provided poster email
- send mails if info matches

3. Though I read you tried simplifying the captcha, I shall advice you look for a stronger spam control captcha. What you have currently can be read easily

4. In the dating section you requested for users to post phone numbers. I may may consider no phone numbers . People can do prank calls. Even in other sections do not permit phone numbers.
- you can block post by looking for numeric strings above certain length
- if they have white spaces, use a replacement string.
- or look for people trying to type alphanumeric and replace all strings.

These all depends on how you look at things.

5. I would include a numeric pagination in addition to the existing previous and next buttons. So users can jump to pages as they wish. It annoys me for sites that have only previous and next. I do understand the need to try to force progressive or regressive flow of information. But sometimes, having the option to skip pages is great.

There is truth to your statement. I am only trying to imagine how one can for prepare anything that could happen in Nigeria. The reality is that things are tough for everyone these days. No matter where one goes, there may be some difficulties. Depending on how we "PLAN" to overcome the difficulties, success awaits for victors. For new graduates, men, good luck to you guys really. Many jobs these days require some 2 or 3+ years experience. If these guys cant get jobs. It is going to be crazy. You need job to get experience, you need experience to get jobs. But somehow I see entrepreneurs starting out their businesses.

Thanks for your input. How prominent are India consulting companies' presence in Nigeria? Here they are like sharks.

Well, I am also into photography, I am still an amateur and I would like to eventually have my own business dealing with amateur photography. I have a couple of things I would like to get off the ground. However, getting the initial funding is important. Which I do plan to investment my personal funds when I have enough. (Many people would not advice going into business this way, but it is a risk I am willing to bear). Setting up a dev shop is also into consideration, quite competitive to get projects but it is possible using sites like elance.com or networking with people.

So why do I want to leave USA? For those familiar with the immigration system here, they can attest to the fact that the American immigration system is imperfect. This is in regards to all categories of immigration including those that are dependent upon the H1-B working visa which is where I fall.

I called a couple of places to seek employment it is not looking good. You need permit to get work, you need work to get a permit. It is cyclical. Then if you take into consideration all of the Indian consulting companies operating in the US, they make the situation worse for actual information technology professional. They are like gin mills just turning out people after a couple of training. It is also sad that the govt doesnt verify all applicant credentials.

On tv yesterday was a discussion about people paying to get internships. Imagine? instead of the company paying them to work, or allowing them to work for free, the employee's parents actually pay the company so their kids can work in the companies.

Definitely, no country is perfect, each has her own problems but it is just getting out of control. I love the freedom of having one's business and setting my own schedule.

I have being thinking for the past few months about going back to Ibadan, Nigeria. I am currently in USA, have a degree in Information Systems. Done some work.  In programming (C++, PHP, VB.NET), data warehousing (Business Objects/Oracle), and website design/management.

I want to go back to Nigeria to work, I hope to be in Nigeria next month. I don't want to go through the NYSC process.

What are my chances of getting a good paying job without serving in Ibadan, Lagos or Abuja.

Would it be difficult?

If there are other locations, I can take into consideration.

I can be a guru of any programming language over night, well that is if i know how to dream very well.

C++ has remained relatively constant compared to VB.NET which changes based on releases of new frameworks.

One needs to be extremely careful when asserting that they are gurus in a programming language such as VB/VB.NET

Coding style from 2003 version to 2005 version are different and it is quite likely that the newer versions may be different as well. All i can say is that it is better to present yourself has being knowledgeable enough to perform the most common functions/implementation.

Coming out to say you are a guru and you are the best is drawing attention to criticism and if you are not ready to deal with them it is easier to avoid such statement.

If however, it is possible you are a guru, it is better to respond to questions/help requests on forums and providing exhaustive answers to fully cover the area of concern for the person needing the assistance. It is more likely people may ignore you if you make bold statements.

And one thing to always remember, there will always be someone who is better than you regardless of knowledge, experience, and expertise. That is a fact.

In my opinion, learning the programming language is not what you should be concerned about. Your main priority is learning LOGIC. You can learn as many languages as you want and your program flow may not be as efficient as it could be. Always remember logic first, programming second. logic logic logic.

Does color coding improve your proficiency at writing codes? Color coding is just an indication of code blocks. If you are comfortable enough to write good codes, understand what you are doing. i dont see any problem with someone using something as simple and as basic as notepad.

well i guess that sums things up. Also, one does not need to work in big companies to have confidentiality agreement. It could be written as part of a contract agreement between the parties involved.

Why, because of potential useful information to competitors, trade secrets. Competitors can hire same developers/designers/architects, etc to perform the same functions in hope of the hired person providing useful information to have an edge

Are you using bulkurl.com to register your domain?

I could submit a link to a portfolio claim it is mine, how would you verify? I can look for a decent one with whois information set to private. Or I can use a friend's portfolio and claim it is mine. And in case you decide to send the person an email, since he/she is my friend I can tell the person to work with me.

Technically, I do not see how you will verify my portfolio. Well, you can contact clients also, but sometimes projects get passed down several people clients may not know who actually is doing the work

Broken.

You need to check the portfolio section again if you use image pre-loads. Sometimes it loads, sometimes the images don't load especially in logo and graphics. both in Firefox2 and IE7.

Website - click through - works ok

logo - click through scroll down - first couple of images load, and after the 5 or 6 image down the list, nothing loads (this happens sometimes)

graphics - if any image don't load in logo, no image will load in graphics or website again until browser refresh. happened a couple of times


contact form doesnt work if you are not aware of that.



apart from that, clean and good.
