Usain Bolt has confirmed he has signed for a football club and will reveal the identity of his new employers later this week.

The Jamaican sprint legend retired from athletics following the World Championships in London last year after winning an incredible eight Olympic gold medals.

Bolt is a big Manchester United supporter and has previously expressed his desire to pull on the famous red shirt and run out at Old Trafford.

His sponsorship deal with Puma makes a move to Manchester unlikely and the 31-year-old is keeping fans waiting a little longer before telling all.

Bolt’s Twitter announcement post read: “I’ve signed for a football team! Find out which one this Tuesday at 8am GMT.”

Keen to make his mark in the game as a striker, Bolt was training with South African side Mamelodi Sundowns in January.

Plans were also in place for him to head to Borussia Dortmund, who interestingly do have a deal with Puma, next month for a trial.

Bolt added:

“One of my biggest dreams is to sign for Manchester United. If Dortmund say I’m good enough, I’ll crack on and train hard.

“I’ve spoken to Alex Ferguson and I told him he needs to put in a good word. He told me if I get fit and ready, he will see what he can do.”

The Boko Haram attack on Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, may have created a setback for the efforts to get girls to remain in schools in Yobe State.

One of the pupils, Faiza Mohammed, said yesterday that she would not return to school except Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Yusuf Tukur Buratai is the gateman.

The attack on the school has also caused some level of panic across the northern part of Yobe State which witnessed fewer attacks of the insurgents in the last seven years.

Faiza, who gave a graphic account of the pupils’ experience while avoiding the marauding terrorists, said one of her classmates was bitten by a snake as they tried to escape through the bush in the night; others broke their legs.

Faiza praised the efforts of “our teachers who tried to keep us together”. “They tried their best to control us not to scatter into the bush but some stubborn students started jumping the fence to run into the bush. There were some of us that hid in nearby houses from the school.”

She said the Vice Principal (Academics) and the Vice Principal (Admin) were monitoring the movement of the Boko Haram men around the school.

“I told my mother that I will not go back to that school again, except Buratai is the gateman. But my sister’s daughter told me that my demands are impossible because Gen. Buratai cannot come down to Dapchi to become gateman in my school. What I simply want is for government to provide for us enough security.

“Because of what my sister said, I will go back but if I see no security, I will just come back and study at home and write my final exams and my JAMB,” Faiza said.

The state government closed down the school for one week. The Army has launched a search and rescue operation for the missing students.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola has surpassed him as a manager.

Guardiola began his managerial career with trophy-laden spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, winning 21 trophies at an average of three per season during his time at both clubs.

City are still on course for an unprecedented quadruple this term, the first trophy of which could be sealed against Arsenal in the EFL Cup final on Sunday, and Wenger was full of praise for his opposite number while also revealing that he almost signed the Spaniard during his playing career.

Google’s Project Zero exposes new Microsoft Edge security flaw

Google’s Project Zero, a team of security researchers tasked with finding vulnerabilities in Google’s own software and that of third-parties, has exposed a new security flaw in Microsoft Edge (via Neowin), the default web browser in Windows 10.

The flaw affects Microsoft’s Arbitrary Code Guarantee (ACG) that aims to mitigate arbitrary native code execution. ACG forced Microsoft to move its JIT (Just-in-Time) functionality into a separate process, effectively running it in an isolated sandbox. Google explained how the flaw works, by predicting the address that the JIT process calls itsVirtualAllocEx() function:

When JIT process calls VirtualAllocEx(), even though the memory is already allocated, the call is going to succeed and the memory protection is going to be set to PAGE_EXECUTE_READ.

The flaw is marked as a “Medium” in severity, and Microsoft was made aware of it back in November 2017 and was given the usual 90-day window to resolve the flaw. Microsoft later told Google that the complexity of the flaw meant it would need more time, so a 14-day extension was granted. Microsoft missed the new deadline and Google’s Project Zero released details of the flaw publicly.

Now, the flaw remains unresolved and Microsoft has targeted March 13th for a patch.

A former student armed with an AR-15 rifle opened fire at a Florida high school on Wednesday, killing at least 17 people, officials said, in a harrowing shooting spree that saw terrified students hiding in closets and under desks as they texted for help.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel identified the gunman as Nikolas Cruz, 19, a former student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parklandwho had been expelled for “disciplinary reasons.”

Cruz was arrested without incident in the nearby town of Coral Springs after the Valentine’s Day rampage and taken to hospital with minor injuries, the sheriff said.

“We have already begun to dissect his websites and things on social media that he was on and some of the things… are very, very disturbing,” Israel said.

“He had countless magazines, multiple magazines, and at this point, we believe he had one AR-15 rifle,” the sheriff added.

The House of Representatives on Thursday went agog when a lawmaker, Jagaba Adams, (Kagarko/Kachia) who was a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, identified himself as a member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

Mr. Jagaba, while contributing to a motion of urgent public importance on the need to add Kaduna and Plateau to a list of states under the siege of herdsmen, said “I am of the Peoples Democratic Party”, a statement which triggered jubilation in the PDP camp.

Many members of the PDP were seen in jubilation as they congratulated the minority leader, Leo Ogor, who had been away for some time.

The speaker, Yakubu Dogara, who presided over the plenary, however, said as far as the House Was concerned, Mr. Jagaba remained a member of the APC until he officially informs the House.

The lawmaker had earlier in 2018 formally dumped Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and described it as a sinking ship, but did not communicate his decision to the house.

He also did not indicate he was heading to the opposition party. His declaration at the plenary was the first since his resignation from his former party.

Mr. Jagaba said he had expected to be expelled from the party in his home state but had since bade the members farewell.

Senator Aniete Okon, a pioneer Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has lambasted the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo for allegedly saying Nigerians should pray for Fulani herdsmen rather than defend themselves.

In a statement he signed, Oko insisted that Osinbajo’s interpretation of the crisis between Fulani herdsmen and farmers was wrong.

He wondered who Osinbajo would preach to if Nigerians are all killed for opting not to defend themselves against the marauding Fulani herdsmen.

The statement reads, “Vice President Osinbajo was quoted to have said Nigerians should not defend themselves against Fulani terrorists when attacked but should pray for them.

“Is that what the VP is supposed to say concerning innocent Nigerians? The Vice President who lives in a bubble devoid of realities of our present day Nigeria thinks that spirituality and religious orientation provide sufficient grounds to overlook safety and protection and what constitutes threats to safety and protection of lives and property.

“This attempt to make martyrs of innocent and unwilling citizens suffering untold hardship inflicted by the government poses rather worrying questions on the humanity index of this administration. Are Nigerians to seal their lips, sit foolishly while we wait in prayer for violent death?

“Who will the Vice President lead when the citizens are wiped out? Who will Pastor Osinbajo preach to if Christians are wiped out? This situation calls for caution.”
