What's this folio all abt ![]() |

jericco1:Yeah, dt app can drain battery, hug RAM and Swallow ur data too. |
It’s a known fact that smartphones get slower with use and this is caused by installed apps. While these apps may be useful and hard to do away with, the negative effects they have on our devices can make one consider removing them. For instance, Facebook is one app almost everyone has but it’s one of the most power-hungry Android apps ever. AVG, an anti-virus maker, recently released a list of apps you should probably consider uninstalling from your device. It’s a huge list containing most of our favorite apps and games. Top 10 performance draining apps that run at startup These apps automatically start running the moment you boot your device and as expected, Facebook tops the list here followed by Google Play Service. Blackberry Messenger and Instagram too make the list. It’s interesting seeing four Facebook apps (Facebook, Messenger, Facebook Pages Manager and Instagram) on this list. Are you willing to do away with these apps to boost your device performance? I doubt that. Here's the full list: 1) Facebook 2) Google Play Services 3) BBM 4) Instagram 5) Messenger 6) ChatON (Voice & video chat) 7) Facebook Pages Manager The Weather Channel9) KakawTalk 10) WhatsApp Messenger Top 10 performance draining apps run by user These apps too are performance killers but unlike the ones listed above, they do not run automatically. They will never be initiated unless you run the apps and they do not run in the background. Here's the full list: 1) SnapChat 2) Amazon Shopping UK 3) Spotify Music 4) LINE - Free Calls & Messages 5) Clean Master 6) Samsung WatchON (Video) 7) Netflix BBC News 9) Amazon Shopping Global 10) Microsoft Outlook Top 10 battery drainers that run at startup If you have these apps installed, they may be draining your battery even if you don’t use them all the time. They automatically start running the moment you boot your device. Again, your favorites apps (Facebook, Messenger, BBM and WhatsApp) make the list. Here's the full list: 1) Android Firmware Updater 2) Beaming Service For Samsung 3) Security Policy Updater 4) ChatON 5) Google Play Services 6) Facebook 7) BBM WhatsApp Messenger 9) Weather & Click Widget Android 10) WeChat Top 10 data traffic hogs that run at startup These are the top apps that contribute the most to your monthly internet bill. If you realize you’re exhausting your allocated data bundle before expiry almost every time, these apps may be responsible. Here's the full list: 1) Facebook 2) Yahoo! Japan 3) Antivirus & Security 4) The Weather Channel 5) Instagram 6) IHeart Radio 7) Google Play Services APUS Launcher 9) GroupOn - Daily Deals, Coupons 10) WeatherBug Top 10 data traffic hogs run by user These apps too contribute heavily to your data usage but unlike the ones above that automatically start running when you turn on your device, these apps are usually started by the user. Here's the full list: 1) Netflix 2) SnapChat 3) Tumblr 4) BBC News 5) Clean Master- Boost & AppLock 6) Samsung WatchON - Video 7) Spotify Music Photo Editor by Aviary 9) Microsoft Outlook 10) Tinder Top 10 storage eaters run by user These apps eat up storage whenever they are run by the user. What this implies is that is your device has a low storage, running multiple of these apps will make your device start to lag or even hang. Here you'll see apps like Amazon shopping, chrome, Spotify, etc Here's the full list: 1) Spotify Music 2) Chrome 3) Aillis - Filters & Stickers 4) LINE: Free Calls & Messages 5) Amazon Shopping UK 6) TripAdviser - Hotels, Flights 7) Amazon Shopping Global SnapChat 9) Clean Master - Boost & AppLock 10) Photo Editor by Aviary This whole list highlights some apps we already suspect but then, you shouldn’t go ahead uninstalling these apps because AVG says they’re bad for your phone. Some of the listed apps are actually system applications which your device depends on to properly function. It’s also worth mentioning that your phone might be equivalent to nothing but a piece of brick without some of these apps. Who wants to uninstall WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and BBM anyway? Google Inc paid Apple Inc $1 billion in 2014 to keep its search bar on the iPhone, Bloomberg reported, citing a transcript of court proceedings related to a copyright lawsuit filed by Oracle Corp against the search giant. Google, a unit of Alphabet Inc, gives Apple a percentage of the revenue it generates through the iPhone but details of the arrangement have never been made public. Bloomberg, citing a transcript of the Oracle-Google pretrial last week, reported on Thursday that a Google witness had revealed that the revenue share was 34 percent at one point. However, it was not clear whether that percentage represented the amount kept by Google or paid to Apple, the report said. (bloom.bg/1nqaj0w ) The court transcript that was the source of the Bloomberg report is no longer available online. Google said in a court filing on Wednesday that the Android disclosures should not have been made public, and asked the court to place them under seal. In its lawsuit, Oracle is accusing Google of using its Java software without paying for it to develop Android. The Android mobile operating system began with the release of the Android alpha in November 2007. The first commercial version, Android 1.0, was released in September 2008. An Oracle lawyer had told a court hearing that Android had generated revenue of about $31 billion and profit of $22 billion since its release. "Assuming Android has only generated material revenue since 2010, then these figures would constitute about 10 percent of Google's revenue and 15 percent of its gross profit since that time," Atlantic Equities analyst James Cordwell told Reuters. "This makes sense given mobile is probably about 40 percent of Google's revenue today, having ramped up from close to zero over the last 5-6 years, with this split between iOS and Android," Cordwell added. Google, which morphed into Alphabet in August as part of a restructuring, does not break out revenue from its mobile business, a number investors have long coveted. Under the Alphabet structure, search, advertising, maps, YouTube and Android are part of Google, while the company's secretive research arm, Google X and driverless car project come under Alphabet. The company will report quarterly results under the new structure for the first time on Feb. 1. Google and Apple did not respond to requests for comment on Friday. lalasticlala, let's educate people abt this malware. |
WHATSAPP users who use the web version of the app have been warned against a dangerous new malware campaign, which hopes to trick messenger users into installing an executable file. Criminals hope to trick WhatsApp users into opening the email – and downloading the attached virus. Cybercriminals circulating malware have set their sights on WhatsApp users, researchers have discovered. The malware is being distributed in emails, which look as if they have been sent from an official WhatsApp account, researchers at Comodo Labs have revealed. Criminals hope to trick WhatsApp users into opening the email – and downloading the attached virus. Messages from the criminals contain suggestive subject lines including, "you have obtained a voice notification", "an audio memo was missed", "a brief audio recording has been delivered" and "a short vocal recording was obtained". Some WhatsApp users are being sent other notifications too, including a fake notification about a new video note, Comodo has confirmed. None of these emails originate from a WhatsApp email address – but are "disguised with an umbrella branding", the security firm added. Each of these malicious messages contains a compressed ZIP file, which will unleash the hidden malware inside. The malware usually replicates itself into different system folders, adding itself into an auto-run in the computer’s registry. "Cybercriminals are becoming more and more like marketers – trying to use creative subject lines to have unsuspecting emails be clicked and opened to spread malware," said Fatih Orhan, Director of Technology for Comodo and the Comodo Antispam Labs. "As a company, Comodo is working diligently in creating innovative technology solutions that stay a step ahead of the cybercriminals, protect and secure endpoints, and keep enterprises and IT environments safe." It appears Microsoft is working on its own SIM card for Windows 10 devices. A new app spotted by The Verge at the Windows Store even indicates that the SIM card might be going through the testing stage already. This is going to be a contract-less plan and customers will be able to pay for cellular data using only their Microsoft accounts. Although Microsoft is yet to officially announce this, the published application called Cellular Data reveals much about the plan. The description reads: The Cellular data app allows you to connect to a trusted nationwide mobile data network using only your Microsoft account. Connect with – and pay for – a mobile data plan on your Windows 10 device using only your Microsoft account information. That means no fixed contract and no long term commitments to a mobile network operator. Microsoft is likely to partner with mobile network operators to create its own virtual network and it looks like cellular data plans will be tied to users’ Microsoft account. This means plans will be sold through the Windows Store. This app might be there just for testing but the mention of a “Microsoft SIM card” as a requirement makes it a bit more intriguing. Right now, we do not know if this is going to be exclusive to the US or if Microsoft plans to roll out the SIM card globally. Also, it’s not clear how soon Microsoft plans to implement the plan and which devices are supported. Since there’s no official statement directly from Microsoft about this, we may just have to wait for a little while. We will publish an update as soon as more details are revealed. What do you guys think? Will this new sim card from Microsoft be a new innovation for the phone industry? Source: http://www.oddytech.com.ng/2016/01/microsoft-is-working-on-sim-card-for.html?m=0

New Delhi: Facebook Inc. has begun the New Year with a bang, reporting that 800 million monthly active users (MAUs) use the Facebook Messenger app every month—roughly 11% of the world’s population! The company announced this in a blog post on Thursday. “It’s a good number, but we believe we have so much more opportunity ahead of us, and these are still the early days of Messenger,” David Marcus, VP of Messaging Products, wrote. That is a staggering figure even by Facebook standards! Consider Messenger’s growth trajectory in the last two years. Facebook reported 500 million MAUs in November 2014, 600 million in March 2015 and 700 million in June 2015. The stellar user growth makes Messenger the fastest growing app of 2015, as per consumer research company Nielsen. Its December 2015 data showed that Facebook Messenger had more than 96 million average unique users each month, which was the higher year-over-year change. The full report can be read here. The growth also clearly indicates that Facebook’s decision to roll out Messenger as a standalone app (preventing users from messaging through the main Facebook app) has paid off immensely. Highlights of Messenger in 2015 The biggest move for Messenger came in March 2015 when the company launched the Messenger Platform, which enables developers to easily build apps that integrate with the product to become a one-stop shop to communicate with people and businesses across the world. Over the last 12 months, the company has made concerted efforts to make the app even faster, and introduced a flurry of features like video calling and the ability to customize conversations with colours, nicknames and emojis. Additionally, with Businesses on Messenger, the company aims at developing an entire ecosystem where all transactions happen within Messenger. These changes will let users book their next flight, or send and receive money to and from friends and family, share photos easily, search for restaurants and, of course, simply chat. All this can be achieved by M, a digital virtual assistant that uses artificial intelligence to execute tasks. Last month, Facebook Messenger also tied up with cab aggregator Uber in the US, allowing users to order Uber rides from within the messaging app as part of a push to turn the service into a commercial platform. Uber customers can both order from the ride-sharing service and make a payment from within the Messenger app. The company’s focus was on transforming Messenger into a business portal that lets consumers and businesses connect, interact, and, eventually, carry out their transactions seamlessly. Of course, Facebook is not the first company to integrate with companies like Uber. A number of messaging apps have been focusing on driving online and offline purchases within their platforms. For example, Chinese web giant Tencent’s WeChat messaging app with 600 MAUs lets users order taxis, food, buy movie tickets, and make purchases in stores. The WeChat model is what Facebook is essentially looking to emulate with its Messenger app. Similarly, Snapchat in the US added the ability to send money to friends over the last year. The roadmap for Messenger in 2016 Marcus has grand plans for Messenger, as outlined in the blog: Don’t need a phone number any more The beauty of Messenger is that it lets you send messages to anyone on Facebook, without having the need to know their phone number. Marcus explains that SMS and texting came to the fore in the time of flip phones. But now with smartphones, we have computers in our pockets that allow us to not only send text messages but much more. “You can also send stickers, photos, videos, voice clips, GIFs, your location, and money to people. You can make video and voice calls while at the same time not needing to know someone’s phone number. You don’t need to have a Facebook account to use Messenger anymore, and it’s also a cross platform experience—so you can pick up where you left off whether you’re on a desktop computer, a tablet, or your phone.” Threads are the new apps Since chat is at the centre of mobile, Messenger wants all business transactions to be carried out from chat threads. Marcus explains how interacting with businesses or services will become easier if done in “one place that has the context of your last interactions, as well as your identity – no need to ever log in – rather than downloading apps that you’ll never use again and jumping around from one app to another.” The company is still testing this out but early tests in 2015 with brands are showing that interactions will happen more and more in your Messenger threads. A place to socialize and have fun Messenger is a great forum to share, chat, debate, discuss, and inform and with its vast array of tools at its disposal it allows the user to personalize the conversation. And one-to-one messages aren’t the only option. Groups on Messenger are the very best way to coordinate with friends, family, co-workers and others to make plans or even just to make sure you don’t miss anything when you can’t all be together in person. Innovating and Inventing Testing M, the Facebook-powered digital virtual assistant, powered by human-trained AI, is a case in point. While its still early days for M, it’s clear that Facebook has hedged its bets on artificial intelligence. “The growing AI capabilities are bringing unparalleled convenience to simple, every day tasks like booking a restaurant, sending flowers, and making plans. There will be more innovative developments to come from Messenger this year.” This also ties in with founder Mark Zuckerberg’s New Year resolution to build an artificially intelligent assistant to help run his house and assist him at work.It will be “kind of like Jarvis in Iron Man” Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post announcing his 2016 objective. Messenger’s road map for 2016 may be ambitious but the company knows that the app is not the only weapon in its arsenal. Facebook also owns WhatsApp that notched up 900 million MAUs in September 2015, and photo-sharing app Instagram that hit the 400 million in the same month, while Facebook itself went past the 1.5 billion mark in November. So are you among this 800 million people already using Facebook messenger app? If not, what are you still waiting for SOURCE: http://www.oddytech.com.ng/2016/01/facebook-messanger-users-over-800.html?m=0 |
