Dedzstar789: Does your CIC portal still not have a counterfoil? If it doesn't it means its still with the embassy if you know for sure it got delivered to them in the first place. I'd go to the embassy and just say you believe your passport has been lost in transit but you want to be sure it's not still with them before you file a police report, that should get them to at least give you a concrete answer |

19CannyMum: Gotchu. I think living condition will depend on how much money you have disposable. If youre in a program and you having your living funds of 10k at your disposal , you'll live ok in a lot of cities. If you get a part time job and or work full time in the summer to augment you'll certainly be comfortable almost everywhere. On the other hand if you are trying to make money for tuition and living expenses on the fly(while studying) that is a herculean task because you can only work 20hrs / wk during school. This is the situation a lot of international students have found themselves in at one point or another and its truly difficult |

canadaman18: I remember posting this a while ago because I knew of people here who finished school having spent tens of thousands of dollars only to find out they have to go to another school or go back home because they dont qualify for PGWP. COOP work permit is a restricted work permit that lets you engage in work that forms an essential part of your studies. You cant use it for any other kind of work and in addition your work portion cannot be more than 50% of your entire program. Also work experience on a COOP work permit does NOT count towards PR. PGWP is an open work permit with restrictions on health occupations (you need to do another medical exam if you dont want that restriction.) You have 6months after you complete the requirements of your program to apply. Note the 6months doesn't start after your graduation ceremony , many have made this mistake. Once you apply online you are under implied status which lets you assume you already have the PGWP. Approval duration is dependent on length of degree. 2years or more will get you 3yr PGWP. 1 year will get you 1 year PGWP. Anythin in between will match duration of the program. Work experience on implied status or with PGWP counts for PR Also important to note to qualify for PGWP , you are only allowed to be part time in final semester of studies , a few exceptions might apply but this is at discretion of VO. 6 Likes 3 Shares |

EPIJOE: You can use company as a sponsor but you need to have a solid account yourself. VOs gonna wonder why the company funds should be spent on tourism . Yes , add marriage cert , land docs and intro letter from company , those are ties Yes I wouldnt pay for any tours till visa is approved. If you can find ones that let you book without paying then you can do that 1 Like |

NIFES: This might be a little tight. You're gonna spend almost 2000 on just transportation alone. Depending on where you're headed to accommodation could be 100/night , which leaves you with almost nothing. try 3500 to be on the safe side |

Didi2d: I would strongly advice against this. They are cracking down on asylum seekers because most are making bogus claims. Lets try to do things the right way and leave asylum for citizens of countries who desperately need it , I know nigeria is bad but we are not at that stage yet 3 Likes |

ttmacoy: The poster is kind of right. One thing you need to realize is not all disabilities are visible. Canadians are also not confrontational so someone might actually need the seat and not want to ask you to get up. You also would not realize they need the seat because their disability is not visible. In general I'd avoid seating on those priority/reserved spots. 21 Likes |

passionate2019: Ah I see , you're likely losing points since its not a bachelors And COOP definitely doesn't count , read this : " Can I count work experience that was part of my education toward the work requirement? No. Co-op terms and apprenticeships completed before graduating do not count as skilled work experience. They are considered part of an educational program. The work experience you can use to apply for the Canadian Experience Class must not have been gained while studying full time on a student permit (for example, experience gained while on a co-op work term). " My advice for you is to retake IELTS , ace it and your points should be high enough then |

passionate2019: If the work experience you are trying to add was in Canada while you held a study permit it does not count With canadian education and work experience , you shouldn’t need those extra 5 months to get ITA A canadian bachelors degree for example with 1 yr experience and maxed IELTS for someone under 30 is in the 470s range |

Babyvet: Sorry I should have clarified my post is not to the OP but more in response to the other people on the thread who are complaining on the lack of jobs and opportunities in the west. Getting a job anywhere is hard and you gotta start from somewhere. I wish there was some kind of stat but I'm yet to meet anyone with STEM degrees and the skills to back it up who went unemployed for longer than a year. I do meet people operating taxis with medical degrees from other countries but that stems more from the degree not being recognized 2 Likes |

I think the biggest problem we Nigerians face is wanting to get big overnight and wanting instantaneous results. First things first , 'menial jobs' or casual jobs are something almost everyone in the west does at one stage of their lives. I've lived in Canada for several years since I was a teen and virtually all my friends who are canadians started doing menial jobs at 16/17 (waitress , chef , delivery guys, facility maintenance). But a lot of nigerians think they are too big for that, It wasn't till recession hit and naira dropped that many international students got part time jobs at walmart and the likes. With the exception of canadian kids whose parents are in the top 5% , they've all worked this same menial jobs . The truth is you cant go somewhere new and instantly expect to be living large. Although I know its tough leaving your job as bank manager in nigeria and you have to start working as a security guard but in most cases that's temporary for a couple of months. Also one more thing is the degree you study matters , arts degrees and similar irrespective of nationality or skin colour find it hard. In fact most times go to a retail store like Michael Kors, Zara , a lot of the people you see there have degrees but there arent a lot of jobs for those degrees. Honestly in the world of today without a STEM degree or plenty of experience getting a job is a challenge. 19 Likes 3 Shares |

Eseries: Havent personally experienced this but looks like tourist visas are getting harder by the day and even good applicants on paper are being turned down. I would suggest GCMS notes for a case like this because if their profile is as you say, solid travel history , solid income and account balance and ties in form of job and investments , its hard to see why theyd be refused |

Lucas4903: Wasn't arguing , just that the thread is about advice for International Students so OWP wouldn't apply to them. No doubt as a graduate you should earn more than what I said above but for students that's what you can expect in most cases with the exception of COOPs or Internships that will pay more. I know you're just trying to help others . Cheers! 3 Likes |

Lucas4903: Dont think this is quite correct bud. Youre only allowed to work 20hrs/week with the exception of holidays e.g summer break , reading week. Minimum wage is $14 which is what youll earn from most part time jobs(retail e.t.c). that gives $280 / week before tax. Also just to add no one should come here to hustle please ,you're setting yourself up for misery . You cant work without a SIN which you cant get without authorization via work permit / PR / citizenship. 4 Likes |

Suspect33: As others have said the answer is No. I’ve had coworkers who weren’t STEM graduates . However you’ll have to be very interested and work hard to catch up on stuff you may not know e.g design patterns , software principles and best. practices. It’s important to focus on these when learning to become a developer , knowing programming languages is just one small piece I just want to stress that IMO the biggest factor that will determine success as a software engineer is interest . Because there’ll be problems that might take days to solve and sometimes involve you starting almost from scratch several times . Without genuine interest for the field , this will become a frustrating cycle , on the other hand if you’re passionate , you’ll see each cycle as one step closer to a beautiful solution. 7 Likes 3 Shares |

Hey Tech folks in GTA with work authorization / PR ! Thought I'd post this here to potentially help someone out Currently looking for a Software Engineer with 3-5yrs experience. You should be be an extremely strong developer with proven ability to tackle very complex, large scale, ambiguous problems and be language agnostic. The role is full stack but more heavy on backend. Pay is $6figures. Send your resume to expressentrycodingATgmailDOTcom IF you believe you are qualified. Please note hiring is not up to me , I will simply forward the best two or three resumes I see to the appropriate person with a good word for interview consideration. Your resume should also include your linkedIn Profile. I will look at all of them but only reply to the person(s) I'll refer. Cheers 20 Likes 1 Share |

simiolu1: True! Even as a predominantly back end engr , i still occasionally have tasks that involve me displaying some kind of information on the UI. Personally though I'm not a fan of JS especially for someone who's just learning. In the bid to make things easy with syntax I feel your foundation ends up not being as strong as someone who learnt C++ or Java first. Just my opinion though |
