Fhemmmy: Ontario's May 2010 unemployment rate is 8.9%, while BC's is 7.5%. Job losses in BC are primarily in the logging industry (like Sapele's tree felling business) - I doubt if Naija persin will land Canada to target those jobs. Other sectors in BC are strong. (http://www.statcan.gc.ca/subjects-sujets/labour-travail/lfs-epa/t100604a4-eng.htm) Fhemmmy:True that. In the spirit of fair reporting, please mention the Jamaican/Caribbean or Eastern European gang wars in Toronto too ![]() |
MeNutty:Hi MeNutty - Going to an English-speaking school in Quebec? Or do you speak French? Your command of French will be invaluable to have a meaningful impact in francophone Quebec. Visited Montreal QC severally, but never lived there. Check out Quebec immigration website, if you have not done so already: http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/informations/learning-quebec.html On a lighter note, with a name like MeNutty, you will definitely enjoy Quebec! Dem sabi jollof life those Québécois ![]() |
hercules07:@hercules - Congrats on your impending landing in Canada. August is a great month to land - You will enjoy the heat, and experience the slow but certain descent of temperatures through fall and the freezer temperatures in winter! Exciting! LOL! ![]() IT market is strong in Canada, and it will continue to be. Here is the best litmus test I've found to guage the labour market - Visit www.workopolis.com (Canada's largest job site) to see opportunities in your field. |
debosky: Bros! You sef don waka small o! ![]() |
Delta007: debosky:These are legitimate concerns, especially higher housing cost. However, economic prosperity has been shifting in BC's favor over the years. Toronto is now replete with BC government adverts attracting skilled workers (not just nurses) to the province. And people are moving! Ontario's May 2010 unemployment rate is 8.9%, while BC's is 7.5%. (http://www.statcan.gc.ca/subjects-sujets/labour-travail/lfs-epa/t100604a4-eng.htm) Eastern Canada (east of Ontario) should be at the bottom of the list for my people - There is not much ethnic diversity in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, etc unlike Ontario and BC. |
dustydee:@dustydee, here is it: Canadian High Commission 15 Bobo Street, Maitama Abuja http://www.international.gc.ca/world/embassies/nigeria/about_embassy-en.asp |
The MD of Julius Berger needs the 'quietness' and isolation of a Kirikiri jail, adjacent to Bode George's, for him to recalculate the mathematical errors of Julius Berger in Nigeria! |
Julius Berger: How N257bn Abuja Road Project was Inflated From Onwuka Nzeshi in Abuja, 07.07.2010 The connivance between contractors and government officials in the negative practice of over-invoicing in procurement contracts came to the fore yesterday as construction giant, Julius Berger narrated how the contract for the expansion of the Abuja Airport Road and Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) Project was inflated by as much as N2billion. The revelation came just as the Debt Management Office (DMO) gave reasons why the Federal Government jettisoned the initial Public Private Participation (PPP) arrangement on the road project and undertook to bear the entire cost. Managing Director, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Engr. Wolfgang Goetsch testified on the alleged “padding” of the controversial project at the House of Representatives. He gave his testimony before an Ad-Hoc Committee of the House which opened investigations into the processes leading to the award of contracts. According to Goetsch, whereas the company made bids of N58.6billion and N48 billion for Lots 1 and 2 of the road project, the contracts were awarded to the company at the cost of N59.2 billion and N49billion respectively. He, however, attributed the additional sum on the contract cost to “mathematical errors” and requested for some time to enable him reconcile the figures. @ Topic The woman who won the DV lottery is qualified, since she has her high school diploma. Her husband should print and laminate the picture of Marjorie Elliott, and tell the US embassy interviewer that Marjorie is his mentor! Marjorie was on CBS news a few days ago - She just earned her high school diploma at the age of 75! ![]()

dustydee:Shuo! Who tell you say embassy nor dey?! ![]() Canada has a Deputy High Commission in Naija - Offices in Lagos (Anifowoshe, V/I) and Abuja. See link below: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/missions/lagos.asp Visiting and student visas can be obtained in Nigeria. It is the permanent residency application that's submitted through the Accra office of the Canadian High Commission. See link below: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/missions/accra.asp I know folks who came in Masters, regularized their stay, and went on to become Canadian citizens. If that's what you want to do, don't let me delay you with a long post ![]() Check out http://www.aucc.ca/can_uni/our_universities/index_e.html |
"Black-on-black" murders do not attract the deserved attention from police authorities, at least in North America. In fact, allegations are that such crimes are barely investigated. Is this the trend in the UK too? If yes, then expect these hideous crimes to continue until the Nigerian community in London pulls together. Sad! |
Medlabgirl:The comic relief is on the house, F.O.C - But my eye dey that BC Tourism money o!!! ![]() Have fun! |
Rare:That's right, but this thread is about BC, and the little known positives of living there. Why not start a thread on Alberta and/or Saska-wetin? ![]() |
hugooh42: "Another letter headed paper" for Yahoo Yahoo Boys? I nor fit to laugh!!!! ![]() Checkout the poster's name sef - OYINBOGOGU - If I'm not mistaken, means "Oyinbo is the ultimate fool!". That sounds like a Yahoo Yahoo boy's pseudonym or fictitious name! LOL! ![]() |
@ Poster Your friend is within the range of sanity. US$1,600 is not outrageous, and ticket could even be higher in peak seasons. Go ahead, give him the needed boost! ![]() |
@ Topic Canada's unemployment rate is presently 8.1% (SOURCE: http://www.statcan.gc.ca/subjects-sujets/labour-travail/lfs-epa/lfs-epa-eng.htm) It hoovered around 6% before the recession hit. However, among visible minorities, unemployment is way higher! I will post the rate once I obtain it from a reliable source. |
whitechriz:First off, beware of miscreants posing as 'Canadian schools agents' in Nigeria. They are a complete waste of resources. All you need to know about Canadian schools is available here: http://www.aucc.ca/can_uni/our_universities/index_e.html Once you have passed high school in Nigeria, you can apply to a good number of these schools directly and online; no intermediary required (except for one or two schools that specifically list reps). It is easier than they make it out to be! All the best! |
@ Okija_juju Welcome to Canada! O'lboy, coming to a new country (as a resident, not visitor) requires you to learn their ways at an accelerated rate - Medlabgirl, as a true Canadian, tactfully corrected your spelling of Calgary a couple of times, but you still dey spell am as Calgari! Haba! Dem go fight you o ![]() Please pick up nuances and little things that tend to trip up Nigerians - Your certificate(s) may contribute 10% to your assimilation; it's what you learn here on how Canadians relate that matter. Canadians may not storm the church on Sunday, but >80% believe in God. So, you may do well to keep your Atheistic beliefs to yourself - They won't ask you directly about religion, but don't throw it in their face either. All the best! |
@Medlabgirl You are doing a fantastic job with this thread! Please ignore these bad-belle people questioning your motives. . .Naija people sabi bad-mouth! Kai! You are really investing a lot of time sharing your knowledge, which many people will undoubtedly find useful. You're doing a good job for BC too ![]() Anyway, when your cheque from BC Tourism clears, please send me my share o ![]() |
Luis Suárez's flagrant handball (punching of the ball to be precise) in the dying minutes of Uruguay-Ghana quarter finals is nothing but CHEATING! ![]() In Basketball, that would be a "Goal Tending" call by the referee, as the ball was heading for the net, and the goal would have been awarded to Ghana. . . without a need for a penalty kick! FIFA needs another rules change - I say add GOAL TENDING to stop the thieving Suárezes of this world! |
Whao! That was fffffffast! ![]() |
otum4:@otum4 - Thanks for looking out for your broda!!! (BTW what's "GH"? Ghanaian?)davidif:@davidif - Thanks man! Up Nairaland!!! ![]() chelseabmw:@chelseabmw - Thank you bro! |
What a fvckin liar. Why didn't he say that before, or report it to the referee during the incident? First it was retaliation, now it's a racist slur. What's next? He should never wear a Nigeria jersey again, not even as a spectator.
Blood_Shed oooooo! That's rib-cracking!!! ![]() |
tkb417:What Torosidis said in Greek was, "Εσείς άτακτο αγόρι" (loosely translated "You yeye boy!" ![]() See? His words were kaitarized, hence, the kick-of-no-return ![]() |
A non-kaitarosphic response to "F**king black man" is. . . (wait for it) . . . "F**king white man". Shikena! Do me I do you; God no go vex - On the contrary, Kaita vexed the whole nation! ![]() Oh well! |

Gunnaz007: Nymph node:Don't mind this yeye jesse_pool jor! Turns out that BBC discovered that he plagiarised the post from NL, stating "This comment was removed because the moderators found it broke the House Rules." I wish BBC's Paul Fletcher properly referenced NL though. I will unleash Sagamite on him!!! (Sagamite does not suffer incompetent journalists )http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/paulfletcher/2010/06/moment_of_madness_costs_nigeri.html |
Astoundingly humbled! ![]() |
@ Topic Local coaches definitely need to be exposed to the best and greatest techniques and technicians from highly developed and burgeoning leagues. But this 7-day thingy is Nigeria's fire brigade approach!!! Totally futile! What we need is a thoughtful, robust and strategic 4 to 7-year development plan. Not some yeye chat with Arsene Wenger in a hotel corridor. Haba! Dem swear for una?! When will we ever learn?! ![]() |
What is FIFA's "support" worth?! Zilch! Alhaji Bio will not hear anything new from FIFA - If he spends 15 minutes a day on NL's Sports section, and applies the common sense recommendations, our football will be world class! ![]() If you put a lipstick on NFF, it's still NFF! ![]() |
