NSNA:I couldn't agree with you more - Every responsible citizen holds the feet of civic leaders to the fire. Here are suggested themes for the next three weeks: 1) Give me 2) No to: Soldier go, soldier come; 3) Recycling is for garbage, not for governance; This is how every successful nation attained great heights - American/Canadian politicians also love to steal, but the citizens have made the cost of bribery way too high! |
Liss:Great! Now I see your point - Your earlier comment could be easily misinterpreted (as did Igbonla, Hotstepper and me) as being racial. The labor market is free-for-all, well, except you're applying as a server in a chinese all-you-can-eat buffet. LOL! ![]() |
@ Poster What is "complicated" about doing the right thing the right way? You are setting yourself up for many, many sorrows and disappointments - Which could even start in the hands of your "agent". Time will fail me to relate experiences of would-be hustlers here. The path of hustle is littered with the debris of several dreams that have been blown up into a million pieces. PS: You probably do not have it in you to do the right thing - So, I wish you the name of Naija's Ag. President - Goodluck! * Let the yabis begin!!!* |
igbonla:Shakara! ![]() |
^^^ Hey Hotstepper; looks like Liss is merely echoing her friend's bias. Thanks for your note. |
Liss:Wow! A classic foot in the mouth situation here, coming from Liss, an HR professional ![]() Asians account for roughly 7 out of 10 people in the world, so you can't escape them once you step into a developed economy; not that you need to. The problem with immigration in Canada is not excessive intake per se, but a disconnect between Immigration Canada and Corporate Canada. It is a long story if we begin to look under that hood. Maybe a separate thread would be a good idea. Having said that, certain professionals remain in demand and will continue to be sought-after for a long time to come. |
=== Username: Amigoz Profile Pix: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?action=profile;u=109357 Pix Summary: A mid to large Airedale Terrier (I think) sits across an open refrigerator with a Parson Russell Terrier (or its look-alike) standing on her back. A cat (that I’m sure of) sits on the back of the Parson Russel Terrier as she gingerly balances a fairly large pink cake garnished with strawberries on top. The picture is captioned, “Teamwork…has its sweet rewards!” What your pix says to me: To say that you are a people person will not do justice to your highly developed social skills. You demonstrate a significant capacity to take time out to seek, cultivate and thrive on healthy relationships with all sorts of people – All sorts of people in your network who may not even get along by themselves, without you acting as the glue. While some folks may struggle with admitting a wrong, you do so in a heartbeat because you treasure relationships and have a healthy self-esteem. You a friendly with a capital “F”. When you have to do something daunting, you are persistent, even when you’re shaking in your boots; although you may eventually back-down, it will not be for lack of trying. You are naturally curious – Your probing mind makes you an innate quick-thinker with the ability to spot opportunities or irregularities. Finally, you have no qualms about paying compliments and you go a long way to providing constructive and positive feedback to people around you. === |
Where is the original poster of the thread? Angeldiana, are you leveraging this forum to source information for CIC? |
[quote author=Il Duce! link=topic=428840.msg5877852#msg5877852 date=1271087476]Who the hell is that gigantic molecule lurking behind the president? ![]() GJ's 8-foot bodyguard, I guess (If you're referring to the pix taken at the tarmac) - The guy fit stop a flying bullet ![]() |
^^^ Somewhere along Yonge Street. I know, I know, referencing the "longest street in the world" will not particularly yield pinpoint accuracy. That's because I'd rather stay under the radar on a public forum - Email me if you want more details. |
igbonla:I am in the Oakville/Downtown Toronto axis. How do I sound 'like somebody' you know? What's blowing my much appreciated cyber-cover?! |
@ Liss (and anyone worried about how long Canadian immigartion takes): Do not allow the estimated processing time make you apathetic towards immigrating to Canada, if that's what you really want to do. The most important step for you is to start by submitting your application, then the clock starts running down. Right now you are deliberating, and deliberation does not move the needle on that clock. Just do it! (Sorry Nike ) |

tunnytox:This is true - I agree. |
patwhizkid: Hi pat-the-whizkid ![]() Hope all is well in the "Evil Fowest". |
@ Poster I did not put off relocating 10 years ago. But here are a few reasons people I know have had to reconsider migrating to Canada (after receiving the permanent residency) when they realize: 1) Well-paying professional jobs are not hanging on trees as purported by Immigration Canada; 2) It may take years in Canada to earn the same pay they currently earn in Nigeria (especially banking and oil sector guys/gals); 3) Their education/professional certificates are, ehhhh, heavily discounted once they cross the Atlantic - The thought of re-training is simply too much for many to bear; 4) They have to alter their living standards from being waited on to DIY - There is no Okon-the-washer-man, Bola-the-house-girl, and Monday-the-driver; 5) There's nothing 'permanent' about the permanent residency permit; it can be revoked if they fail to accumulate 2 years of 'residency days' (of living in Canada) out of 5 years; 6) The stack reality of leaving behind their comfort zone - Many folks underestimate their ties to Naija until CIC's letter tells them they have until DD/MM/YYY to land in Canada; 7) The thought of living in a country guided by the rule-of-law is just plain scary to some of my Naija people! Ehn! No prevalent mago-mago, roger, egunje, big-man shakara, etc. This is by no means an exhaustive list, just what I've learnt from personal interactions with Nigerians planning to relocate and subsequently developing cold feet. @Hotstepper & Igbonla - Una well done. . .Keep us posted on your hook-up |
RichyBlacK: Right here sir! 'Been gone for too long though due to, you know, this exciting thing called "work". |
oyb: LOL! Vintage Oyb! ![]() |
^^^ Hey Kunbee - How are you doing? I've been away from NL for so long; busy with what puts food on the table. It is interesting that folks still stop by this thread. You were one of my first 'clients' on this thread ![]() |
Pweety4me: No worries, Pweety; I can't win it all ![]() Although, I still think you love the spotlight! Just kiddin' - If you say you don't, then you don't. Will be expecting the pic ![]() |
spoilt:Although the idea is commendable, Spoilt has captured the essence of its huge downside - The social fabric is weak and cannot safely support such a carnival - The event will be overrun by miscreants while responsible people who cannot afford Police escort will watch a 15 second clip of the event on the news. But, Naija people need some fun sha! Who knows? It may turn to a money spinning, world renowned tourist attraction. Eko For Show! ![]() |
erewarifa: Whao! You are a highly connected Daddy! Good job!!! |
MaxLeo:Interesting spin. Some Canadian actually do dream of living in Nigeria. Some folks I know work with multinationals and are looking to have nascent/emerging market experience in Nigeria, while some business owners are looking to extend their reach to Las Gidi. In response to increased interest in Nigeria by Canadians, the Canadian Deputy High Commission recently reinforced their Trade Commission with the recent appointment of a high ranking Deputy Commissioner. You know there is a difference between existing in Nigeria and living in Nigeria ![]() |
@Poster Between Liss and Dododawa, you have received sound advice. Listen to them, go through due process and you will soon breath in a lung full of Arctic cold air and exclaim, "Canada!" Listen to so-called agents, "pay" for visa, hope to extend it, and all sorts of wuru-wuru, and you will surely exclaim, "Kai! Nada!" ![]() |
^^^ Momodu sure knows which side his bread is being buttered, and by whom ![]() |
auwal87:. . . Until Islam and Fulanis parachuted in? Is that what you mean? Just asking. |
Fhemmmy:Sure, mai broda! If it's earned through honest industry and creativity. The problem is our people LOVE money, but despise the PROCESS of value-creation. Recently, Gen Danjuma shamelessly admitted to making US$500 Million profit from flipping an oil block he got from Abacha. It takes ~700 employees (with sevel multiplier effects on the economy) producing goods at full capacity for a year (depending on industry) to generate that amount in a developed economy. *Sorry for going off topic!* |
Boboribo: It is thought processes like this that create the environment for one party to lead millions of people by the nose. Nigeria is not North Korea, a one-party state. Is PDP the only political party in the country? No! I am not bashing/hating. LDP (Japan's version of PDP) ruled from 1955 until the people woke up and kicked them out in 2009, after 54 years! Nigerians need to stop the siddon-look syndrome. |
