the thing about western intervention is that it is only deemed necessary when the head of state in question deviates from the agreed instructions and plans given to them by the west.

The west could not care less if the head of state in question is a brutal dictator or whether he is a democratically elected man of the people - the bottom line is - is he doing what we want him to do ie is he implementing neo liberal economic policies which favour our multinational corporations, assist in the massive transfer of wealth into our own internantional financial institutions whilst simultaneously impoverishing his own country and its people.

Notice how the west only started having problems with mugabe when he started accelerating the land reform programmes in which large tranches of white owned (stolen) farm land were being returned to the indigenous zimbabweans.

Gaddaffi transformed Libya from an impoverished barren wasteland into a modernised nation - this was all done with Libya's oil reserves, as a result he is very popular with his people and it would be almost impossible to depose a man who has brought so much prosperity for his people,  free education up to university level, subsidised housing among other social services are some of the things Gadaffi has been able to provide to his people in his 41 year tenure.

biya is a french backed puppet who has handed over the economy of his country to the french to be milked dry in return he has been allowed to remain in power as a life president.

i agree with the question you asked ie why hasnt the west intervened in nigeria in numerious instances where elections have been rigged, June 12 1993 comes to mind, why didnt the west intervene and back Abiola in the same way that they are backing Ouattara, could it be because Abiola might have opposed and even refused to comply with the destructive neo liberal economic policies that IBB had slavishly implemented.
this now make me conclude that IBB was not acting alone when he annulled June 12.

Gbago may well be a power hungry dictator but the french were quite happy with him up until recently, he went along with all of their structural adjustment programmes which the IMF imposed on Ivory Coast and he cut public spending, devalued the currency and authorised a whole raft of privatisation programmes which enabled foreign multinationals to move in and buy up most of the Ivorien public sector, now for some reason he seems to have fallen out of favour with them and they have decided to back yet another stooge namely ex IMF employee Ouattara.

To say that Jonathan is a house negro is the biggest understatement of all time - this shameless fool is a disgrace and embarrassment to the nigerian people, this man has no shame, can he not see that he is being used, why cant the UN deploy their own troops to Ivory Coast to dislodge Gbagbo, or could it be that they feel no white lives are worth risking in this fiasco? By the way everythign happening in Ivory Coast is capable of happening in Nigeria, if any of those rented politicians we have in nigeria dare challenge the west they should expect the same sort of military intervention that Ivory Coast is about to suffer.

yup, i agree, when i worked with some asian girls (indian and bangladeshi) my eyes were opened to what really goes on.  They very rarely marry for love as dating is  frowned upon by their communities, instead their parents pair them up with guys or girls from the same caste and socio economic background, most of the time they marrry people they do not know, a few months down the line they start having problems with the guy as they discover they've got absolutely nothing in common with each other and before you know the whole thing ends in divorce.  The girls complain that their guys are extremely chauvinistic and expect to marry a woman with super model looks, fantastic job and super bright prospects.  Also dating is frowned upon, girls who are found to have dated too many guys are regarded as "damaged goods", they tend to either marry based on recommendations made by family as that is seen as more respectable.  The girl i used to work with said that women are expected to act as if they are living in the 18th century, with very high premiums placed on remaining boyfriendless until marriage, ultimately when they do get married the girls tend to go in with unrealistic expectations and are shocked to find out that the marriage isnt what it was cracked up to be.

I was also told that the guys and girls (with the backing of their families) tend to be very materialistic and focus on marrying people in professions such as law, medicine, dentistry etc.  This asian girl i used to know had numerous marriage offers but her mum vetoed all of them because none of the guys were professionals like her, eventually she was allowed to marry a dentist!

el razur - just to clarify - SAPs  are one of the many economic conditions imposed on recipients of IMF loans, Ivory coast will be expected to comply with these conditions in order to qualify for the loans - Gbagbo implemented SAP programmes which resulted in mass unemployment, cuts on education and various other public services, he also pushed through various privatisation programmes enabling foreign multinationals to buy up govt owned public utitlities like electricity and water (this is also happening in nigeria under Jonathan).

Gradually foreign multinationals are increasing their control over the economy, land and natural resources of Ivory Coast, France has over 500 different multinationals operating in Ivory Coast in commodities ranging from cocoa, coffee and timber, gold, diamonds and even crude oil.  

The objective is to have someone in office who will make this transfer of the wealth of Ivory Coast into the hands of the west as smooth as possible   - that person is Outtara.

Yes personal opinion based on the facts - Ivory Coast was plunged into debt under the previous rule of Houphuet Boigny (another pro French imperialist puppet)  -as a result it applied to the IMF for loans and as you know IMF loans come hand in hand with stringent conditions - you should know this given that nigeria is a recipient of IMF loans itself,  this is what led to our currency being devalued, cuts in public service expenditure and overall decline in our standard of living - this is what is happening in Ivory Coast right now.  YOu dont need a crystal ball to work out why Outtara an ex IMF employee  is being backed by the west, neither do you need a crystal ball to work out that the main beneficiaries of these privatisaion and SAP policies are France, the EU and america.

Isnt it funny how the west picks and chooses when and where to intervene when the "wrong person" wins an election?

What i would like to know is why didnt the west intervene in nigeria in 1993 when IBB annulled the June 12 presidential elections?  How come they didnt suspend nigeria from the commonwealth, freeze our credit accounts, close down our export markets and impose draconian economic sanctions on us the way they have so quickly done in the case of Ivory coast.  Why didnt they send troops in to destroy the nigerian airforce in order to cripple any chance of a military retaliation ?

Could it be because Abiola was not the man they wanted in office in the same way that Gbagbo is no longer the man they feel should remain in office in Ivory coast?

All this talk about the west not wanting Gbagbo to extend his tenure is ridiculous, if i remember correctly Mobutu spent 35 years in office with military and financial backing of the US, Omar Bongo of Gabon spent a staggering 42 years in office courtesy of french backing, going down in history as the longest serving african head of state.  It appears that the west don't have a problem with sit tight dictators as long as they are PERSONALLY APPROVED BY THE WEST. 

This Outtara sounds just like he has been personally approved by the French, the fact that he is a westernised (brainwashed) ivorien married to a french (white) woman indicates where his loyalties lie.  The other glaring red flag is his former job at the IMF - an even clearer indication as to what his agenda is.

His position reminds me of that of Obasanjo's former finance minister - Okonjo Iweala, here is a woman who was instrumental in negotiating a deal between Nigeria and its foreign creditors in which we are said to have paid $12 billion in partial settlement of our alleged debts which were allegedly $18 billion , the americans are very good at doing this, they get an insider ie someone from the targeted country whose loyalties lie with the imperialist country and they use this insider to negotiate deals which favour the imperialist nation, the insider then agrees to negotiate unfavourable deals which short change their own countries in exchange the insider either receives a huge monetary reward or is elevated to an even higher position of power,  I hear Okonjo Iweala was appointed Managing Director of world bank shortly after her resignation under OBJ's administration - not bad for selling your country down the river.

Outtara is being used in a similiar way, as an imperialist puppet his job is to implement even more draconian SAP policies which will leave the Ivorian economy firmly in the hands of predatory multinational parasites.  This is the real reason why the west want Outtara in and Gbagbo out - again the same old cynical, greedy vultures sucking the lifeblood out of another african state. 

Nigeria will dutifully do the bidding of their own colonial masters - the british, by sending troops to fight on behalf of france, note how the financial times of london have said - " let the africans deal with their own problems", despite the fact that the french have orchestrated this entire crisis.  The truth of the matter is that the French do not see Ggabgbo as their puppet of choice and would prefer Outtara who is their agent and who will allow them unlimited access to Ivory Coast's vast natural resources.

if needed Nigeria will send troops to go and die so that France, the EU and the US can retain their parasitic grip on Ivory Coast's economy, the nigerian govt will do this for two reasons - so that they can continue to enjoy military aid from the west and to prevent nigeria from being the next target of the kind of western military and economic attacks that Ivory Coast is currently beign subjected to.

I cannot tell you how annoying it is as a "Non-Nigerian" to come on here and read some of the most disgusting *ish, I have ever read. i have asked him and you know what he said? - he doesnt like the way black girls expect him to pay for their hair, groceries or help with sending money back home to their families.

I thought id throw this one out cos a cousin of mine whose been looking for a "good woman" for a while now told me about an experience he had recently.  He met this white woman at an exclusive members only club he said he was attracted to her  because she was well dressed, slim and attractive.

They exchange numbers that night and when my cousin gets home he  calls her and they get chatting, the woman says she's been married 3 times, she says she wants a decent guy who won't mess her around and makes it clear to my cousin that if he is after a one night stand he can hit the road as she's not interested in that.

My cousin  assures her he's a decent guy, they decide to meet up.  A few days later this woman starts bombarding my cousin with text messages saying she's bored and that he should come over to her place.  To cut a long story short he visits the woman the next day and spends FOUR DAYS at her place, he starts texting me telling me the woman is fantastic and how he's found a wife at last!!! he starts filling me in on how fantastic the woman's home is, how her wardrobe is filled with designer lables and how she's got several cars parked in her driveway, one of which is a BENTLEY.

It occurs to me that my friend might be counting his eggs before they've even been laid let alone hatched.

All of sudden i get this bombshell a couple of days ago , my cousin sounding terrible on the other end of the line - apparently the woman told him on the fourth day of their encounter that she is just not that into him and that she was only after sex, as if that was not bad enough she said that he is not in her league, is not wealthy enough for her to associate with, and that she is very high maintenance and doesnt beleive that he is equal to the task.  When my cousin started getting upset she threatened to call the police, suffice it to say that my cousin's self esteem is now completely shattered.

The reason ive put this out for discussion is that my cousin put this woman on a pedestal, took her out, bought her expensive gifts and treated her with the utmost respect, he treated this woman in a way that he would never treat a black woman and i know because he tells me how he treats sisters, so my question is this, why is it that you get brothas who are willing to expose themselves to all manner of humiliation like the above case all in the name of having a white woman but when they deal with  black women they treat them like crap.  My cousin has been in relationships with loads of decent black women but got rid of one girl when she asked him to pay for her to have her hair done.  My question is this - why is it that some brothas accord white women respect and support that they would not accord to their black women.

This type of scenario is quite common where the nigerian man seeks to find a servant as opposed to a soul mate or a door mat as opposed to an equal.  It worked for our parents and our grand parents becuase they lived in a different era, one in which men were the main  breadwinners whereas women were expected to bear children and look after the home and the man, now things have changed very few families in the west and nigeria can function on just one salary, as a result women are now contributing towards the upkeep of the home , if a woman makes as much money or even more than her man, it stands to reason that she will not be willing to adopt a docile and passive attitude , both parties need to work more as a unit with less rigidity assigned to their respective roles.  

Bringing a wife from nigeria because you think she will be more submissive than a western oriented woman is wishful thinking.   The majority of women with a healthy dose of self esteem do not want to be treated like a door mat, the only reason why the ones in nigeria put up with it is because they have no choice, this is why these same women switch from being docile and submissive doormats to assertive, independent minded women the minute they start earning their own money in the west.

Perhaps both parties need to focus on showing each other mutual respect instead of trying to dominate each other, if both parties can achieve this then the marriage will work irrespective of where it occurs.

if you ask me the guy is lucky to have her, she's very pretty, natural no fake hair or bleached skin, nice sunny disposition, well spoken and from what i hear seems to have come from a good family so the guy should recognise that he has made a good choice.

Good for her - the fact that the guy is from a rich family does not make her a gold digger , she's not doing anything different to what most girls all over the world do, so i say good on her.

I went to Gambia 3 years ago for a short break and it was actually really lovely, beautiful white sand beaches and very friendly people, i have to admit that there were a disproportionate number of middle aged white women cannoodling with young Gambian men, there were also quite a few middle aged white men also seeking out young Gambian women - our holiday rep actually warned us about the sex tourism i think many of the british women know the deal and are not under any illusions as to why the guys hook up with them, there are some however who seek out these Gambian men for something a bit more serious, Gambia is quite a poor country and there arent many job prospects for the local people, therefore most of the men look for western women to take them out of the country away from the poverty.
