^^^^^@ Tayo D

Thanks very much for your effort in trying to enlighten some of our black brothers CAP28, Pre-elect and etal. These guys are really suffering from serious inferiority complex and always a victim of racism syndrome. . . . .  I guess they should borrow a leaf  from some black folks who had made it to the top echelons in any area of life, be it business, academics or politics. . . .You folks really need to grow up and be a man of your own.
@igwe USA - you and tayo d both need to undergo a  major self hate deprogramming session as you clearly have swallowed hook line and sinker all the propaganda your white masters have fed you with and accepted it  as the sacred truth - black folk like you are normally described as house negros who never deviate from what the master tells them, if the master has a problem they take it on as THEIR problem but what they forget is that the  relationship is not one based on mutual respect but one where the master treats the docile servant (the black man) like a retarded child who constantly needs to be guided and dictated to, if the servant at any point decides to use his own brain and exercise his own right to self determination he is slapped down by the master.  this is how you and tayo reason - your mind is in chains.

in your whitewashed mindset everything white is right - just because you parrot all the garbage that your white master has force fed you doesnt mean that he accepts you.

the black folks that you refer to who as you say have MADE IT TO THE TOP in most cases have sold out - if you want to "make it" as a black person in white america - you have to sell out because the entire economic structure is owned and run by whites, blacks who deviate from this set up pay dearly either economically (loss of income) or in some cases loss of life (depending on how much of a threat you are to their system).    The vast majority of so called successful blacks in america are usually entertainers and sports people who never speak out against white racist america because they are more interested in making money than working towards the emancipation of all blacks.

every single progressive black intellectual or activist who has spoken out against racial inequality in america is either in prison (mumia abu jamal, mutulu shakur, h rap brown) or dead - (malcolm x, martin luther king).  i would advise  you to go and read about the fbi covert operation known as COINTELPRO set up in the  1960's and still operating till today,  which murdered, framed on trumped up charges or harrassed fearless blacks who tried to challenge the white supremacist american system.

so please dont be deceived because a few blacks have been "allowed" to get to the top by selling their soul to the devil.  yes the whites will let you get to the top PROVIDED you dance to their tune - the minute you try to stand up and question the system of institutionalised racism which is entrenched in american society you pay the price.
@cap28,
You obviously are very confused. You started by declaring that evil is independent of skin colour and in the same breathe attempt to link evil with skin colour. Where do I start to unwind you from the mess you've tied yourself into?

For every historical records you mention, I can point out many others perpetuated by non-Whites. The greatest evil that we can point at in our generation is probably 911, and that was not perpetuated by Whites. What about the genocide in Sudan? This is Black on Black wahala? How about the cannibalism we witnessed during the Liberian civil war? Do you think these are all linked to skin colour?

Please try and remove sentiments from your thought process. It'll help you judge issues more objectively!
the point i made which  for some reason you are finding hard to understand is that criminal activity transcends race HOWEVER  some races do have a greater propensity to comit CERTAIN types of crime more so than others for example white men are more likely to be serial killers than black men - is that a confusing statement? clearly not it is a statement based on fact the fact that one race is more predisposed to commit certain TYPES of crimes than others -   the facts speak for themselves but for whatever reason you cant get your head around this simple and quite obvious fact.  i have gone further to even give you examples in order to back up my assertion and because you are so blinded by your cluelessness you turn around and say you want to "unwind me from my mess" !!!!!!!!!

if there is anyone who is confused it is you, infact not only are you confused you are walking around in a permanent state of self deception.  You are so hurt by the fact that whites do not see you as equal to them that in order to cope you DECEIVE yourself into thinking that racism does not exist and you delude yourself into thinking that we're all one big happy family living in a colourblind world - how sad!!!

I think think you need to wake up and realise that you are living under a white supremacist system that does not  believe that blacks and whites are equal, delude yourself as much as you like but the evidence is out there.

You say that for every historical record ive mentioned you can point out many others perpetrated by non whites,  well im waiting!!!!

Your statement about 911 is laughable and i am tempted not to even bother responding to it as it demonstrates how hopelessly clueless you are - first of all 911 had absolutely nothing to do with any foreign nation as a matter of fact it is now an open secret that the bush administration played a part in that whole debacle so maybe you might want to go and do a bit of research, secondly if we are to buy into the laughable proposition that foreigners did indeed orchestrate 911 how does the loss of 3,000 lives constitute a greater loss than the  loss of  100,000 iraqi's who have died and who continue to die as a result of an illegal invasion of their country by american troops.

Or are you saying that white lives are more valuable than non white ones?

with regard to Sudan - i now know for a fact that you are completely brainwashed - are you aware that Israel and america encouraged and orchestrated the war between the north and the south?  obviously not, were you also aware that america designated Sudan a state sponsor of terrorism because it supports the rights of palestinians against zionist racist israel?  are you also aware that southern sudan has huge deposits of petroleum and uranium which america and israel are determined to get their hands on hence their ongoing campaign to destablise the entire country?

are you aware that the militias in darfur were armed by america and israel?

the liberian civil war - again read the history of this supposed satellite country of america, you will find america orchestrated the subsequent war and then stepped back and left liberians to slaughter each other.

sentiment has nothing to do with my understanding of matters i rely on facts which you would do well to adopt yourself in order not to sound as clueless as you do.
@cap28 and pres-elect,

I'm bemused by the thinking of you two. It sounds incredulous to me when rational human beings think that the tendency of a man to commit evil or not depends on his skin pigmentation. There is no evil that the White man has done that the Black man has no propensity of doing. We shout racim today because of the history of slavery. I'm sure you are all aware that slavery was not an exclusive preserve of the White man but all races.

Your tedency to not believe the best of your fellow human being becuase of their skin pigmentation is a betrayal of Martin Luther King's dream that all men will be judged by their character and not by the color of their skin. You guys need to wake up from your delusion. Evil is more than skin deep. It is a malaise that plagues all of humanity!
Tayo d im totally bemused by your naivity maybe you need to look back in history and you will find that whites have committed some of the worst atrocities in history which to date no non white race has to my mind ever committed.

here are a few of some of the atrocities the white race has perpetrated over time

north america - white settlers invade and systematically  wipe out native indian population, native indian survivors are then rounded up and put on reservations where many comitt suicide or simply die out

australia - britains ex convict population are deported to this country where they systematically murder, enslave or maim the indigenous people, some survivors dumped on reservations
new zealand - ditto
tasmania - ditto
canada - ditto

africa - whites perpetrate one of the greatest holocausts known to man ie the transatlantic slave trade in which over 10million blacks loose their lives

africa - whites carve up africa and divide amongst themselves in what is popularly known as the "scramble for africa" - during this period many africans who resist colonialism are systematically murdered, imprisoned or maimed

there are many others which are too numerous to mention which continue till today but the above are the ones which come to mind right now.

nobody is saying that the ability to comit evil is dependant on the colour of ones skin, however i can only base my conclusions on what i know and what i have seen and what i have seen is that white people in the name of imperialism and economic self interests have committed some of the worst atrocities known to man.

slavery was not the preserve of whites, however never in the history of the world has slavery been practised by non white races where human beings have been  dehumanised to the extent that they were regarded as nothing more than cargo as was the case with the transatlantic slavery, in africa we practised slavery but slaves had rights and were permitted to partake in society along with freeborn people, they were not stripped of their humanity - this was not the case with the transatlantic slave trade - human beings were totally dehumanised and treated worse than animals - infact there is a case in law(The Zong)http://www.umich.edu/~ece/student_projects/slavery/the_zong.html where a slave trader tried to claim insurance monies from his insurer by arguing that in order to save his ship from disease caused by overcrowding he threw overboard live slaves beleiving that he could claim compensation for the losses from his insurance company.  now if this doesnt illustrate barbarity i dont know what does - to date i dont know of any race of people who have carried out such an evil act against their fellow human beings.

with regard to the martin luther king dream - thats all it was a dream, it is highly irresponsible to go about life looking at things through rose tinted glasses - of course it would be fantastic if we could all get along but the fact of the matter is that the vast majority of whites are not interested in getting along with blacks if they have to give up some of their power, whites love the positions of privilege that their white skin give them and they will never give it up without a fight - you only have to look at how angry a white person gets if he perceives that a black person has more money, status or power than them (as is evidenced by the wall of hostility that obama is currently experiencing from white america) therefore to criticise pres elect and i for facing up to the reality of what it means to live under a white supremacist system which preaches equality but practices the opposite is to live under the worst form of self deception.

but to be honest im not suprised, rather than face up to the real enemy, you slam the person who points out the truth- if there is anyone who is deluded its you.

dont worry about it. it's not new. there were black soldiers who fought for the confederate army. they wanted the confederates to secede and form a country where they will happily remain as slaves. it's not new and it's not blacks alone.
over 4000yrs ago, when the jews were slaves in egypt, there were jews who opposed moses' plans to liberate the israelites. even after they had crossed the red sea and left egypt, there were those who still felt things were better in egypt.

during the 3rd reich, there were jews who worked happily for the germans. and even lashed out on their fellow jews.

forget what history lectures u may have had in school, during the civil rights movt, not all blacks were in favour of the movement. some hated the bus boycott, the march in washington, the protests in different cities etc.

that is human beings for you.
you're right - i think the thing with us black folks is that many of us are suffering from severe inferiority complex (igwe) - its so bad that we actually make excuses for whites when they treat us terribly, look at how many of us are quick to dismiss congressman wilson's behaviour in order to "move on".  can you imagine what would have happened if it had been obama that was rude and disrespectful to a white congressman - all hell would have been let loose and both right and so called left wing media would have run the story for weeks.

look at how obama was attacked when he correctly described that police officers arrest of henry gates in his own home  as stupid - he was attacked by the media and forced to retract his statement and even issue an apology to this same police officer who  even REFUSED to apologise to professor gates!!!! - so you see theres one rule for blacks and another for whites.  if you're black no matter how respectable or educated you are you will be expected to defer to a white person no matter how lowly - its pathetic and quite frankly im fed up with all these black apologists who continue to turn a blind eye to disrespectful and abusive behaviour that is meted out to blacks by whites.

the fact remains that there are large swathes of america who still have refused to accept the fact that a black man should be their commander in cheif - its as simple as that and to deny this fact is to remain in a permanent state of denial.  okay so Bush was booed in 2004 and 2005 over some unpopular reforms that he was trying to make - how is that to be equated with the heckling of a president who hasnt been in office for up to a year - at the time the booing occurred bush had already had  4 or 5 years to get things right and at that point he had  committed a number of costly blunders - at that point america had invaded a sovereign state on a lie and was spending billions in tax payers money and at the same time was making cuts in social security, how apt - extend the powers of the police state and at the same time take away finanical assistance from the poor -

the patriot act will go down on record as one of the most draconian pieces of legislation ever introduced by an american administration so the booing he received is understandable.  with obama its a different story, there is a conscious effort on the part of racist white america not to accord him the same respect which is normally accorded to white presidents and its all down to the fact that whites are inherently racist if they could give george  bush 8 years to destroy their economy how come they cant give obama at least 4 years to repair the damage?

i think people like igwe are in complete denial - they actually think that white people are capable of looking beyond race and judging black people on an objective basis - it makes you wonder how people like that have coped in such a racist country like america.
Foreign Affairs › Why Do Nigerians Look Up To America? by cap28(op): 2:16pm On Sep 19, 2009
america has a terrible history rooted in genocide, imperialism (ongoing), apartheid, exploitation and corruption but it seems to be very good at hiding these aspects of its past and present and instead seems to get away with portraying itself as a country that beleives in democratic ideals such as freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

we are told that when its constitution was adopted in 1787 this was lauded as a proud day in the history of the country however other accounts dismiss this as a deceptive reinvention of the truth and that in actual fact america's founding fathers had no intention of creating a democratic nation that it was merely paying lip service to the ideals of democracy.

Apparently its main objective was to create a plutocracy a system of govt where only the very rich (were allowed to run the country at the behest of other plutocrats with everyone else being reduced to glorified slaves within this structure.  this is based on the fact that almost all of america's  founding fathers were land speculators and slave owners, contrary to popular beleif their war of independence was not fought in order to rid themselves of Britain's tyrannical hold over them but in order for them to carry on with the theft of native american land in violation of legally binding agreements,  preserve slavery in order to maintain their wealth and power and install a system of government which would protect them.

The dilemma for them was how they could get away with practising a system of govt designed to favour the rich and disadvantage the poor without the poor realising that they were being taken advantage of hence the creation of the illusion of democracy.  do you agree?

if you are in any doubt as to the fact that america preaches democracy but practices the opposite here are some of the evil things that america has perpetrated and continues to perpetrate:

they have suspended an individual's right to a fair trial before a jury of ones peers - which means that you can be thrown in jail by the US govt and held there indefinitely without them having to prove that they have good cause for doing so if you are perceived to be an "enemy combatant" or a threat to national security.

in the last 8 years they have invaded two sovereign states under the false pretext of spreading democracy but actually in order to take control of the vast oil and opium fields located in those countries (iraq and afghanistan)

it has overthrown legitimate democratic governments of countries who refuse to open up their countries to pillage and plunder of their natural resources ie haiti, el salvador, nicaragua, panama, honduras,  the phillipines, afghanistan, indonesia, colombia and many more

it has installed puppet leaders in countries where they have economic self interests in order to safeguard their "interests"

it has sponsored the use of terrorism in sovereign countries

it practices a de facto apartheid system whereby the majority of racial minorities (particularly blacks) do not have equal access to housing, education and employment with whites

it practices one of the most insidious economic systems of government - capitalism whereby multinational corporations wield more power than governments and are able to dictate economic and foreign policies by way of powerful lobbying groups and donations to political parties.

it has used violent repression to get rid of so called dissident groups that are considered "a threat to national security" using various methods ie false imprisonment on trumped up charges, murder, intimidation, harrasssment.

so my question is why is it that we as nigerians continue to look up to this nation as one to be emulated?

Congressman Wilson was definitely out of line for his blatant disrespect of the position of the Presidency but in his defense, he was just caught up in the heat of the moment. The issue of healthcare reform is the hot button issue at the moment. I'm not all that suprised that an event like that occurred as a result of the healthcare debate. Though I understand Carter's argument about racism but concluding that Wilson's comments were based on racist sentiments seems a bit farfetched to me. Wilson apologized, Obama (the person who should be the most offended by Wilson's outcry) accepted his apology. I think it's time we moved on.
i find it bizarre that all throughout george w bush's time in office despite his abysmall track record he never once was subjected to the outright hostility and disrespect that obama who has barely been in office for a year is being subjected to.  let us not deceive ourselves, white americans are inherently racist towards blacks and many are still finding it very difficult to come to terms with the fact that their commander in chief is a black man therefore to dismiss wilson's behaviour as a spur of the moment thing done in the heat of the moment is to live in denial.

i think a lot of blacks in and outside america thought that with the appointment of a black man to the white house we had now overcome racism but the harsh reality is that as long as we remain economically and politically powerless they will never regards us as their  equals.

of course obama has accepted his apology, he lives in fear of the white back lash, this is why he has never taken a stand on race, during his campaign he even went as far as describing america as a "post racial society" i dont for one minute believe that he even beleived that but he knows that if he wants to survive even one term he has to dance to white racist america's tune and if it means putting up with overt  racist behaviour he will.  so yes we're moving on but we're moving on knowing that every time the race issue comes up obama will continue to either deny that white america is racist or ignore any offensive racist attitude.

Carter a white man in his eighties from the south knows what he's talking about after all he was a grown man during Jim Crow, whites openly express their racist beleifs when there around other whites and im sure he has been privy to  a lot of racist obama bashing.

I am sorry if you thought I was referring to you in my write up. Was referring to Emya's post. I only mentioned your name because I was replying to your post. Relax a little and don't get combative on the issue.
On the contractors well you need to know that most of the so called actions of the American government is usually influenced by their lobbying. The reason why I mentioned them is not to justify their coming to Nigeria, it is to indicate that the story on the quoted website may be true as regards the hiring of this contractor called Good Harbor. Whatever we discuss let us put it in the context of what the thread is about.
On the issue of them being shielded from prosecution, you may need to read more about these guys (who the former President Eisenhower referred to as the military industrial complexes) and then you would find out that no politicians in the US has the balls to go against them. Forget the rhetoric of Obama. The media campaign against them would only lead them to shift ground to third world countries like Nigeria to engage in conflicts that would not be popular in the United States and the US government would not want to commit resources to.
They would always found willing allies in corrupt politicians in Congress who because of campaign fund donations would make sure that they do not get punished. Don't forget most if not all of these people are ex US military and CIA  people.
@omoabike - dont worry about it and i apologise if i was abrupt, yes i read your link about blackwater which i thought was very informative - i know that the political parties are controlled by special interest groups or lobbyists so i agree with  you that the chances of blackwater facing prosecution are virtually non existent but you know at least there are journalists with the courage to try and expose them.  The military industrial complex is extremely powerful and has continued to influence american defence policy but to my  mind their objectives are unsustainable - how can the US arms manufacturers continue to profit from global wars indefinitely without expecting any backlash?

i know that Obama is nothing more than a front man for the international banking elite and is therefore powerless to move away from an agenda which has already been set out for him to follow. but if america can deploy private contractors to africa to fight as mercenaries why form AFRICOM?

@cap28
The assertion that the United States always side with the southern part of a breaking country is a naive way of analysing what happened during the Korean and Vietnam wars.
These two wars were essentially satellite wars during the Cold War between the West on one hand and the Communist and Marxist power bloc of former Soviet Union, China as well
Cuba in Angola among several countries.
While the Americans were directly involved in the Korean and Vietnam war they used allies during the Angolan Civil war with the CIA through the  South Africa Apartheid government  supporting Jonas Savimbi's UNITA.
It was only by accident of history that the United states supported both South Korea and South Vietnam as they were the part of these two countries that were not communist hence their being
supported by the Americans.
However the issue at stake is not that the American government wants to be involved in the Niger Delta, it is just that some smart business people in the United States wants to export what they have been
doing for the American government in Iraq and Afghanistsan to other parts of the world. This is because so many activists have been trying in the United States to publicise their activities.
I agree with you that Texazzpete went too far with his statement. I will implore him and everyone of us to  let us have intellectual discussions without calling each other names.
@omoabike first of all  before you rush to lecture me on the history of america's relationship with vietnam and korea please get your facts right - first of all i DID NOT say that the US  ALWAYS sides with the southern part of a country which is about to disintegrate - please read my earlier post where i was responding to a quote made by emya who actually stated the following:

Quote from: emyah on Today at 04:21:16 PM

The US has been known to be at the center of important breakups in the past. Countries like Vietnam and Korea had the US play a major skewed role, and when these Nations divided into North and South, the US stationed its troops at the border to defend usually the Southern territory, and the Northern usually became a rejected, isolated rudiment.
i was merely responding to texaspete's rude and ignorant response to the above statement.

i am well aware of the fact that the US's foreign policy was based on funding and backing the non communist sections of both countries which both happened to be located in the south - but the fact still remains that these were invasions by a foreign power into sovereign nations.

i disagree with your statement that  america does not want to get involved in the niger delta crisis - why was AFRICOM formed and why was an attempt made last year to start deploying troops to various countries on the continent which was resisted by south africa, nigeria and libya?

your argument about private contractors wanting to escape scrutiny from activists in america hence their decision to export their activities to the niger delta doesnt make sense - if the activists are trying to expose companies like blackwater for activities being carried out in iraq and afghanistan surely the fact that these contractors are now conducting the same activities in nigeria will not sheild them from investigation and prosecution?

i wonder whether you will continue to refer to these contractors as "smart business people" when they authorise their military personnel to start shooting innocent civilians with cluster bombs or using skin rotting deadly chemicals like napalm and white phosphorous when firing from helicopter gunships?

Beaf:
There is bound to be an element of truth in this. But to Nigeria's chagrin.

The US is seeing Russia encroach heavily on its territory. Nigeria is a country rapidly approaching failed state status. In such a scenario, how do you expect the US to react? Think of how you would react if you were the US and could muster enough force to change the situation in a failing state that your economy depends on for 12% of its energy needs.

For the country as whole, what do you think heavy US and Russian presence in the ND forebodes? Russia wants our gas, the US wants our oil. It would come down to a simple calculation of who ND folk would rather ally with and the rest of the country will be swiftly jettisoned.

We have a group of idiots ruling us. They will do anything for a buck. . . Even committing suicide.
why should the US see nigeria as THEIR TERRITORY, are we not a sovereign country with the right to our own self determination?  but i agree the US feels that China is encroaching into THEIR territory - AFRICA - and in particular oil rich nigeria, this was the whole basis for setting up AFRICOM in the first place - to displace China and retain their foothold in Nigeria who provides them with 25%  their total oil imports - they need us but not in a good way - they need us the way an abuser needs a victim, Yaradua and his cronies have remained compliant in the rape and expropriation of our oil and they want things to remain that way but the only problem is those "irritating niger delta militants" who are lowering oil production - this is why Yar adua with a lot of intimidation from his puppet masters has decided to let them take charge of the situation, nothing good will come of this, if  you doubt this, remember Liberia, they were regarded as a satellite country of america due to historical ties, but when war broke out in that country and Doe (american puppet)  was overthrown what did america do?  they withdrew their citizens from the country and stationed their navy offshore but allowed the liberians to slaughter each other - why? because no natural resources which would benefit america were at stake.

dont ever imagine for one minute that america cares one hoot about black africans, remember this is a country which practised an apartheid system similar to south africa based on racial discrimination right up until 1964 until the blacks revolted.

they are using psychology on africans by putting an african american four star general in command of AFRICOM (the same way they've used Obama to deceive many blacks in america to beleive that racial discrimination is now a thing of the past)  in order to lull nigerians into a false sense of security - its all deception and the truth of their intentions will very soon be revealed for all to see.

Kobojunkie:
The above is either the most naive or the most dishonest take I have ever read!
Kobojunkie can you explain to me what is "naive" or "dishonest" about the following:

imperialism:  a system used by countries which are economically and politically stronger to expropriate labour, resources, capital and land of countries which are economically and militarily weaker.

globalisation: a process used by powerful corporations to extend corporate monopoly and control over national and local economies by treating international corporate rights as supreme ie taking precedence over rights of sovereign countries.

aim of both of the above: to enrich a tiny minority of plutocrats at the expense of the host nation

so called free trade agreements relied on by america like NAFTA and FTAA provide these multinationals with powers which enable them to overule and undermine economies of soverign countries - the multinationals are so powerful that they can drive down wages, outsource jobs to countries where production costs are less (causing mass unemployment)  and generally have people workign for as low as 15c an hour as is the case in Haiti.  if their economic interests are threatened they can encourage political instability and finance overthrow of "unfriendly regimes" (iraq, haiti, el salvador, guatemala, panama, honduras, venezuela)

here are some countries who have been on the receiving end of globalisation/imperialism at the hands of america:

indonesia, india, thailand, el salvador, brazil, argentina and of course nigeria - what do these countries all share in common - mass poverty, high crime rates, corruption.

the multinationals are the oligarchs and they control sovereign states and govts - think Shell,Chevron, Exxonmobil, General Motors, Cocacola, Microsoft, Walmart.

America might be considered more pro-globalization than an imperialistic country.
Within globalization Nigeria can benefit as the Chinese did.
it all depends on on how a person see it.
whats the difference between globalization and imperialism?  absolutely nothing

globalisation is simply a euphemism for world wide expansion, domination and control which is precisely what imperialism is. the americans prefer to use the word "globalisation" as it sounds less threatening than imperialism but the bottom line is that the  objective of both words are the same - world wide domination and control of economic and political forces.

American involvement in many foreign disputes usually start commercially, just think of 1890s Libya, Phillipines, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, and then Iraq.
Just like Blackwater in Iraq, this Safe Habour security company sounds like a group of retired US military operatives who simply find their pensions insufficient these days, and want to make a few extra bucks from places like Nigeria.

Here again goes the need to be fully educated about precedents in the area, and I don't know that Yar'dua is up to the task. Advisers, are simply that -advisers, at the end of the day, the decision will be that of the commander in chief of the federal republic of Nigeria.
yes but the problem is that america is an imperial power - it beleives in expansion and domination of weaker nations - that has always been its mode of operation  and it never deviates from it - with the exception of vietnam that suffered an invasion without subsequent occupation the phillipines and  iraq all ended up being permanently occupied by america.

not that i care what happens to Yar adua but doesnt he understand the implications for him if america refuses to withdraw their military operatives.

my feeling is that america are using the niger delta situation as an excuse to occupy the region, think about it, this is the excuse that they are using for their current occupation of iraq - why arent they pulling out troops from that region? because  supposedly they are maintaining peace within the region and if they leave the country will fall into a state of chaos - this is total nonsense because iraq is in total chaos because they are there, they did the same thing in vietnam - their excuse then was "we're trying to free them from an oppressive communist threat" - all lies. with the niger delta situation they have a legitimate excuse - peacekeeping- but theyve been dying to locate military bases in nigeria for the simple reason of securing the oil wells since last year.
Politics › Re: American Marines To Help Fight MEND? by cap28: 12:53am On Sep 15, 2009
It will certainly bode well for the people of nigeria. Obama is about to bring peace to the people of nigeria. When his army comes in to occupy the Niger Delta, the fighting will rage on and eventually the UN will come in and negotiation will resume which will finally bring the country to regional rule or total break up. Our lobyists are doing great job at the moment. America's coming in into Niger Delta will be a great thing to happen and a blessing in disguise. The division will be peaceful with them on ground before any war.
i dont agree - Obama is simply continuing what his predecessor started - AFRICOM - but it seems as if the americans have decided to accelerate its implementation.  remember the US put the proposal forward to establish military bases all over africa last year and nigeria supposedly rejected it.  now it seems the americans are pushing forward with their proposal.

if you think this will bring peace to nigeria you are mistaken, america is not doing this for peace keeping purposes it is purely economic self interest - they want the wells to run at maximum production level, they're not interested in the niger delta people and the repression being meted out by the nigerian military.

as for the UN again you are mistaken - you should find out about the atrocities they are committing in Haiti.

Bayelsa State Governor, Timi-pre Sylva, who has been briefed on the project, and wholeheartedly supports it, has suddenly become a hardliner; telling the defiant MEND militants that they have much more to lose if they fail to accept the amnesty deal before expiration. He has even dared the militants to make good their threatened resort to violence which he dismissed as empty rhetoric.
why am i not suprised at this scoundrel's behaviour - this man couldnt give two shits about MEND - if ever there was a traitor its this man.

okay let me get this right the nigerian govt is INVITING US COMMANDOES ONTO NIGERIAN SOIL IN ORDER TO SAFEGUARD NIGERIAN OIL WELLS AND KILL NIGERIANS ON THEIR OWN SOIL!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it should be abundantly clear to anyone who was in any doubt before that the nigerian govt are US puppets, obviously the puppet master now feels that its high time they take charge of the situation and take control of the oil wells in the niger delta region, unlike Iraq these scumbag leaders are actually inviting a foreign army to occupy their land, so basically this is really a covert invasion.

what makes these useless traitors think america will leave after they have undertaken this task? after all if they are investing millions in military personnel and equipment why not simply establish a permanent base in nigeria under the guise of peacekeeping just like in Iraq.

words fail me, this does not bode well for nigeria at all.

i think that it is very possible that israeli intelligence (mossad) executed the 911 operation - it is now widely accepted that there is no way jet fuel could cause buidlings with the type of structure that the twin towers had,  to collapse in under 10 secs and engineering experts as well as eye witnesses  confirm hearing the sounds of explosions in the basement area prior to the collapse.     explosive experts confirm that the building went down in a mode remarkably similar to that of a controlled demolition, with the top caving in and everything else falling in on itself into a neat pile at the bottom.

ive looked at videos of skyscrapers that have gone up in flames and ive not come across any that have collapsed in under 10 secs flat even after extensive fires, so why would the wtc be different?

could bombs have been planted in the basement area and timed to go off at a particular time causing the massive explosions heard by eyewitnesses?

more to the point could mossad have planted these bombs under instructions from the white house - not impossible as we all know the US and mossad are as thick as theives.  will we ever know the truth? - i hope so.

you would think that racist jews like mike wallace would know better than to make such stupid statements but im so glad louis farrakhan brilliantly put him in his place.

wallace seems to think that we are all blind to the atrocities that america has been comitting around the world, this is a country that regularly arms both sides during conflicts (vietnam, iran v iraq, first and second world wars) overthrows democratically elected presidents ( haiti, honduras, nicaragua, panama, ecuador, zaire, ghana and many more) and installs and funds brutal dictatorships (mobutu of zaire, saudi royal family, marcos of the phillipines, pinochet of chile and many more)

farrakhan should have reminded him of the fact that some of the richest families in america ie rockefellers, dulles, mellons financed hitlers war machine during the second world war and miraculously escaped treason charges - he should also have mentioned how henry ford of ford motors helped to build hitlers war machine supplying the nazis with tanks and trucks, how about jfk's father and george bush's jnr's grandfather who laundered money on behalf of the nazis dont those qualify as corrupt practices or is it only when non white people do it that its corrupt?

That is painfully narrow minded.
The castle might or might not turn out to be a good investment. Time will tell.
if your wife and kids have been living in abject povery with no access to decent food, shelter, health care and education  and then you get a job with the opportunity  to make a difference in their lives, what would be the first thing you would do

a) buy a brand new top of the range jeep

b) buy a new wardrobe full of the latest designer labels

c) render financial assistance to your family,

i would like to beleive that you would say c  - but if you didnt then my conclusion would be that you have absolutely no conscience - sylva is nothing more than a common criminal with no conscience - is it necessary to keep flogging a dead horse in order to point out something which is obvious to any sane person

The greatest problem of the Niger Delta is not the heap of concrete under discussion. It is polution of the land, air and water, health problems, destruction of livelihoods, the wanton killing of our people by the govt and oil companies (including the execution of peaceful leaders e.g. Saro Wiwa and the Ogoni 9), the repeated wiping out of whole communities, oil spills lasting for years, flares burning night and day, foul odours from rotten animals and fish killed by polution, noxious fumes, foul drinking water etc. It is shocking that the World over, the Niger Delta problem is viewed as a Human Rights catasrophe; but in Nigeria "oh its the fault of ND folk that they are suffering"; I really am at a loss as to if this is stupidity, ignorance or sheer wickedness.
the heap of concrete under discussion is part of the problem - people like your beloved Sylva couldnt care less about the people of bayelsa whom he claims to be representing or he would be addressing the problems that they have been sacrificing their lives for, instead he dismisses the issue of militancy, when the reporter brings it up - he says "if not for the militants we could be making three times more than the USD$30m we are currently making", so to him the militants are nothing more than an irritating obstruction, and if not for them he could be helping himself to even more loot, this man does not show any empathy or allegiance to his people, instead he sees their struggle as an obstacle to his long term objective of amassing ill gotten wealth,  does he speak out against the atrocities that are being meted out by his northern masters against his people? - of course not,  he keeps his mouth shut and continues to loot the treasury and feather his nest, any person with an iota of intelligence would have shown more sensitivity towards their people and found a cheaper official residence at least to show allegiance for his peoples struggle but no, Sylva is immune to the brutality of the nigerian military even when it affects his own  people.

"One of the greatest threats facing the people of the Niger River Delta has actually been their own government. The Nigerian government has total control over property rights and they have the authority to seize any property for use by the oil companies. A majority of every dollar that comes out of the ground in the delta goes to the government of Nigeria. As a result of the enormous amounts of sweet light crude that comes out of the delta every day Nigeria has the second largest GDP in Sub-Saharan Africa [17] Despite the wealth flowing into the nation from oil revenues many of Nigeria’s socio-economic factors are worse now than they were 30 years ago [18] According to the World Bank, most of Nigeria’s oil wealth gets siphoned off by 1% of the population [19]. Corruption in the government is rampant, in fact since 1960 it is estimated that 300 to 400 billion dollars has been stolen by corrupt government officials [20]. The corruption is found at the highest levels as well. For example a former inspector general of the national police was accused of stealing 52 million dollars. He was sentenced to six years in prison for a lesser charge
the writer of the above article forgot to mention that all of the above is being done in collusion with foreign oil companies like Shell and Chevron, corrupt international financial institutions like the world bank and the imf as well as corrupt multinational companies who are awarded contracts to build so called tourist attractions like gloryland.  im sure it wasnt a nigerian construction company that built gloryland, these foreign contractors inflate the value of these contracts and in collusion with theifs like sylva, pocket huge chunks of the inflated price.  at the end of the day the only people who benefit are sylva and the foreign contractor and the bayelsa/nigerian people are left to pick up the tab because the money used to pay for these projects comes from foreign loans with massive interest attached to it.

they also forgot to mention that former us vice president  cheney's oil and gas company Kellog Brown and Root paid the nigerian govt over USD $180 m in bribes in order to build a liquified natural gas plant valued at a staggering USD$6b, so,  far from being innocent bystanders in the mass looting of our country these foreigners are aiding and abetting them.
http://www.bostonphoenix.com/boston/news_features/other_stories/multipage/documents/03633501.asp

In Venezuela Chavez has done the unthinkable he is using oil revenues to better the lives of the ordinary people, he has refused to collude with the american oil companies but instead nationalised  the oil industry in his country, as  a result the americans attempted to kidnap and murder him in 2002, they staged a military coup which was later aborted by the people, who staged mass protests and marched on the presidential palace demanding his release and return.  Chavez was returned to power after the army refused to back the illegal coup and instead sided with the people, within  48 hours Chavez had been returned to power.  Now america has regrouped and they are trying again, they did the same thing recently in June this year in Honduras and Haiti's president was also abucted and deported to congo in 2004, so i think you need to be very wary of  their propaganda, they are only feeding you with one side of the story, they are totally acting in collusion with the nigerian govt and if nigeria is ever to have a progressive leader in power they will fight tooth and nail to remove the person.

My grand dad owns some properties at the Biogbolo-Epie end of Yenagoa. We should celebrate whatever development project (white or black elephant, green or blue) we have in Bayelsa State.
why should the vast numbers of indigenous people living in that region celebrate the construction of a useless white elephant project which will serve no useful purpose to their everyday lives

Up until the coming of Alamieyeseigha in 1999, Yenagoa was nothing but a very poor struggling town/state capital of Bayelsa. Today, when I drive through the very dangerous East-West road leading to Warri enroute Benin, and sometimes I branch off at Mbiama to see what's going on at grandpa's yard, I thank my God for the good things I see around Yenagoa today. It may not be like what obtains in Abuja or Lagos, but I tell you all, most people are satisfied with what they see in Yenagoa. Goodies will spread with time to other places in the state.
why cant you get your priorities right how has the erection of these worthless structures helped people in that area - correct me if im wrong but i thought mans no one priority was food, clothing , shelter  and education have all these primary requirements been provided by the govt of bayelsa to their indigenous people? and since the roads are so dangerous couldnt the money used on this building have been used instead on the roads?

when are these "goodies" going to trickle down? before or after the oil has run out

Now, to the CNN video. I really don't know what CNN is up to. But I will support Sylva's stride to make the world know that what we have in Yenagoa is not a concentration of swampy abode of militants and bunkerers, but a place where humans live and can do business.
let me get this right CNN are wrong for exposing the conspicuous display of stolen wealth by a man who is supposed to be serving the people and Sylva is right for pompously showing off his opulent and luxurious residence for the whole world to see despite the fact that just a few miles down the road his people are living in grinding poverty and the ones who are courageous enough to speak out against it are brutally murdered, raped and maimed for doing so.

Timipre Sylva should not be ashamed of anything. The people who should be ashamed of themselves are the people of the major ethnic nationality of this country who prey on the resources of the minority ethnic group of the country for their own selfish gains and development. Some folks worry that the wealth in Sylva's state did not trickle down to the common man in Yenagoa. Let them worry the more about the poor in their own state. Their case is like that of someone who has a log in his eyes and is worrying about the small speck in another's eye.

Sylva should hold his head high and be a proud Ijaw man anywhere. He should flaunt what proceeds he's got from what nature has blessed his state with.

Keep showing them what your state have got, Gov. Sylva. Keep it up.
okay so Sylva is exempt from blame despite the fact that he is raping the economy along with his hausa fulani cronies in the north.

You seem to be looking at nigeria as if its not one country and as if we're not entitled to criticise him for doing what his northern masters are doing - last time i checked nigeria was still one country.

i can see that you have no understanding as to who a true leader is, your expectations are so low that it is no suprise that people like Sylva take people like you for a ride over and over again.

Here is a man who shows a total lack of respect for his people and is instead more concerned about showing off a lavish mansion to the foreign press, he is so blinded by his ignorance and corruption he cant even see that he is making a complete fool of himself  and here you are praising him - dont complain when you find yourself being driven off your land in order to make way for Sylva  and his cronies when he decides to collude with multinationals to build more useless white elephant projects.  if you think this wont happen remember maroko near lagos, also look at zimbabwe, south africa and most of the south american countries, today its oil , tommorrow when that dries up it will be your land.

this will not be the first time that an american administration has orchestrated or provoked an attack on US citizens in order to justify entry into a war:

sinking of the passenger ship Lusitania in 1915 by german u boats  - despite warnings given by the germans of the impending dangers faced by ships travelling in enemy territory, british and american govts allowed their citizens to travel on this ship which was subsequently sunk - this caused outrage amongst the americans which led to an overwhelming no of american soldiers volunteering for the draft.  http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/snpwwi2.htm

bombing of pearl harbor by japanese - caused outrage amongst americans leading to entry into second world war, what american citizens didnt know was that roosevelt had been warned of an imminent attack but had chosen to ignore it.
http://whatreallyhappened.com/WRHARTICLES/lieofthecentury.html

supposed gulf of tonkin attack by vietnamese led to start of vietnamese war - in 2001 former US defence secretary robert mcnamara later admitted gulf of tonkin attack NEVER HAPPENED!!!!!.  http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8653788864462752804#

911 attack supposedly by al qaeda which had links to iraq - led to war on iraq and afghanistan - iraq's involvement with 911 has now proven to be bogus - bin laden has never been caught and no one seems to be looking for him, but as at 2002 cheney's company Haliburton was awarded reconstruction  contracts valued at over US$11b

http://whatreallyhappened.com/WRHARTICLES/bush_family_911.html

why? because war = huge financial profits for US arms manufacturers, banking cartels and multinational corporations.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Is There Anyone In Here Who Really Believes That 9/11 Was Orchestrated By Bush? by cap28: 10:42am On Sep 11, 2009
it was definitely orchestrated by bush and his neo conservative cronies, in sept 2000 a document known as the project for a new american century was created setting out how america intends to dominate the world militarily and economically the document states that acheiving world domination will be a long process unless there is a "catalzying and catastrophic event - like pearl harbour" - 12 months later the twin towers were hit.

this document goes on to set out some of its other objectives:

increase in defense spending

willingness to take "pre-emptive military action"

willingness to take military action unilaterally with or without allies

the abandonment of  its anti ballistic missile treaty

establishment of more military bases abroad

regime change in iraq

the US to act as a global police force

it goes on to state that the above measures are necessary in order to prevent the emergence of any future rival and to secure access to vital resources especially "persian gulf oil".
some of the above have already happened.

the major players behind this doctrine were cheney, paul wolfowitz, john bolton, richard perle and donald rumsfeld all ultra right wing members of former bush jnr administration - the baton has been passed to obama who is carrying on with the above.

Hugh Hefner ought to consider suing the Bayelsa State governor in response to His Excellency's blatant copy of the famous Playboy Mansion swimming pool grotto, where shocking scenes of wanton debauchery occur with numerous naked women and camera crews in attendance.

For un-intended humor, one needn't look further than the governor's straight-faced assertion that the oil-pollution impoverished dwellers of the Niger Delta creeks were all welcome to the marble State Mansion for 18 holes of golf, a barbecue picnic in the faux-Roman ampitheater, and a dip in the pool, with the only requirement being the payment of a "small" gate fee.

That surreal declaration was followed in CNN's documentary by images of a bony kid foraging for food from a dugout canoe that floated down an oil-slicked river.  That skeletal figure was presumably one of those being asked over for a round of golf with the rich lootocracy, though he appeared way too preoccupied in his existential search for a morsel to eat, to ever honor that sneering country-club invitation from Governor Hospitality and his cronies
hilarious!!!!!!

but what is even more disturbing is the fact that this awful white elephant project is being described as a tourist attraction by some loyal sycophants - who in their right mind would want to come and visit that pile of junk?

im sure it was some dumb american who wrote that initial article - isnt it funny how they love laughing at black countries and their supposed lack of progress whilst conveniently failing to mention how instrumental they have been behind their demise.

Why didnt the writer mention the fact that Haiti's democratically elected president Jean Bertrand Aristide was KIDNAPPED in 2004 (under George Bush Jnrs instructions), yes KIDNAPPED by US marines, forced onto a plane and DEPORTED to the Democratic Republic of Congo - his crime? he had the nerve to try and addresss Haiti's crippling poverty by raising the minimum wage and rejecting various IMF and world bank loans from the US. this obviously was not in line with various american corporations agenda of turning haiti into a massive source of cheap (slave) labour making cheap t shirts for overweight and bloated americans so he had to to go.

now that aristide has gone and an unwanted US puppet has been placed in power, major US corporations have set up shop in Haiti and have settled down to exploiting Haitians making them work for as little as 35 cents an hour in their sweat shop factories - now thats what i call democracy!!

Jesus wept!
As an avid researcher, critical thinker, big African brain etc; have you had the time to look into claims by some of your fellow alternative thinkers on AIDS? A good place to start would be if having your bath after sex with an infected person "washes" away the virus; another would be the definition of AIDS as a vitamin deficiency; yet another would be testing if AIDS is cured by having sex with a virgin (read baby) or a goat. You will agree that the preceding are all crackpot ideas, worthy of research and weighty consideration; they have all been suggested by ignorant fellow Africans and African Americans.

One more thing Mr. researcher, there is no such thing in science as a single black race or an African race; there are several races within black Africa.

Ignorance is a very dangerous thing.
Beaf,  first of all this thread is about whether hiv/aids is an artificially manufactured disease created by the whites in order to wipe out blacks it is NOT a thread about superstitious claims made about the disease.  the poster has tried (in vain) to narrow the discussion down to this area but for some reason this is proving almost impossible.  I am not interested in discussing about superstititious beliefs and in no way is this discussion to be equated with crazy superstitious beleifs.  this is not the first time an investigation into the origin of hiv/aids has been carried out - i thought that inquisitiveness and the pursuit of knowledge and understanding were traits which distinguished human beings from animals, therefore your unwillingness to question or even investigate an issue that disproportionately affects people of your own race is quite frankly tragic.  Members of the black medical establishment are equally unconvinced as to the true origins of this disease and have refuted vehemently the pseudo scientific explanation that has been put forward by some members of the white medical establishment but because you cant be bothered to put your brain into gear and for once use it to think you dismiss it as a giant crackpot conspiracy theory, well you carry on in your blind mindset maybe one day you will wake up.

and by the way the dictionary definition of race is a group of people sharing a common ancestry and sharing similar cultural and/or physical characteristics eg skin/eye  colour, facial features  and genetic markers.

to my mind all black people share the above characteristics therefore they are of the same race - the african race.

i agree ignorance IS a very dangerous thing it reminds me of a saying by a scottish philosopher who said: he who will not reason is a bigot; he who cannot is a fool and he who dares not is a slave (Sir William Drummond)

now i can see why our progress as a race is stagnant - if the opinions of some of the people on this thread are anything to go by we are doomed, critical thinking seems to be almost non existent - im sorry to say that we are a nation of followers and not leaders, following blindly and unquestioningly.
