What actually made me love Sir Alex was his ability to use average players

His last title win he did with basically average players. But the core of his team after the retirement of cantona in 1997 is not average, infact its one of the best in English football history.
Schemeichel, Gary Neviĺle, Dennis Irwin, Jaap Stam Johnsen, Roy Keane, Paul scholes, Giggs and Beckham, Cole and Yorke. And can call upon names like Nicky butt, Sheringham, Solskjear and Jasper Blonqvist from the bench.
From that first eleven only Norwegian Ronny Jonhsen is not among the best in the premiership history in their positions. Imagine the midfield quatet of Beckham, Giggs, Scholes and Keane that is an absolute world Class midfield.
The above solid team later transformed only by replacing Irwin, Stam, Johnsen, and peter with Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand and VDS respectively. The forward line had the 2 devils Rooney and Ronaldo, MC also came in for Keane while scholes and Giggs remained.

From 2002-2006 when his replacements were not complete, he suffered severely with players like Roy Carroll, Bellion, djemba djemba, kleberson, Heinze, oshea, Miller, Silvestre and Brown. The only good players then were RVN, scholes, Giggs and Rio. Keane was already ageing, Ole was mostly injured while Ronaldo hasn't come off age.
With the arrival of Rooney, Evra, VDS, Vidic and MC coupled with the emergence of Ronaldo, the result was 3 UCL finals in 4 years and 3 consecutive EPL titles.
The team that won the 2013 as well as 2011 were the core of that 2008 champions league winning team. There were average players though, but the core is a verrrrry verrrrryyyy experienced contingents in terms of title know how. Ferdinand Vidic ròoney, MC, Evra , Giggs and scholes were still around coupled with the purchase of RVP.
Ferguson performed wonders during his reign with little resources but he really had good players at times.
When he had real passengers he did not move mountains.

I agree with you. Shaw will not be as bad as blind. I have not seen a worse performance like the one put up by Damian and Blind today. They dont deserve pay this week.

What I learnt from the first half.
1. Martial is one hell of a player. Top talent
2. Pogba is head and shoulders well above everybody in that midfield. Where was this pogba last season?
3. Damian is a bang average player, very limited player
4. Whenever Herrera plays we lack bite. No wonder our player last season was too laboured and we can't do anything without pogba.
5. Marcus Rojo is like a new signing. He for me is our best defender. Yes better than Bailly for me.
6. Who said Lukaku lacks creativity? He is a very good player for. His hold up and link up play is top notch.
