The truth is that people have lost hope. They are asking government to "eat the bodies'. Will they be compensated when bodies are claimed ? Most likely, hospitals will ask them to pay some fees and families have to buy caskets and spend for burials. Most of these families are poor . Some are not in Lagos but live in villages in some distant states. Some victims are orphans. Who will claim the bodies ? |

Rossntti: . . Nigeria’s $1.5 billion steel plant set to produce 1 million MT of steel annually
Nigeria nears steel independence as $1.5 billion steel plant in Kaduna is set to produce 1 million MT of steel annually.
The Federal government of Nigeria has disclosed that it is expecting an annual output of one million metric tonnes of steel from its $1.5 billion steel plant in Kaduna.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed while inspecting the steel plant facility at the African Natural Resouces and Mines Limited in Kaduna.
According to The Punch, Mrs Zainab Ahmed during the inspection of the facility said that the $1.5 billion steel plant which is now nearing completion, would produce one million metric tonnes of steel annually. She emphasized that the facility is critical to the nation as it is tactical to the looming steel revolution in Nigeria.
The $1.5 billion steel plant built by African Resources and Mines Limited, a subsidiary of African Industries Group (AIG) is at an advanced stage of completion.
The plant which is billed to commence the first phase of production in the mining of Iron ore, and production of Direct Reduced Iron in a matter of months is expected to produce one million metric tonnes of steel annually.
Why this matters
This development is expected to resuscitate Nigeria’s steel industry which has been lifeless for a while, and help put an end to the importation of steel in Nigeria. This will also reduce the pressure on the Nation’s foreign reserve, and bolster the foreign reserve of the country.
It is expected to boost domestic steel production and attract foreign investors’ participation in the industry, especially auto producers around the world.
However, the facility will create employment opportunities for Nigerians both directly and directly and indirectly.
What they are saying
Alok Gupta, the Group Managing Director of AIG, said the firm would be mining iron ore to produce direct reduced iron, which would enable the company to produce higher-grade steel more efficiently.
He explained that the investment by the company in the Nation’s steel industry will dramatically increase domestic production, and this will have multiple effects on the Nigerian economy.
The Minister of Finance emphasized that the recent investment in the steel industry by AIG which is about to yield gains both for the company and the economy will attract the auto industries of the world to come into Nigeria and produce cars in Nigeria for Nigerians, and other countries in West Africa.
Bottomline
The investment of AIG in the steel industry is expected to drive the country towards steel independence, and pave the way for Nigeria’s steel revolution and the development of the automobile industry in the nation.

budaatum: Government is we the people! We do not go to get our leaders from Mars, we choose them from amongst ourselves.
It's a simple concept, but our education system unfortunately teaches us to look to the heavens instead of seeking from within ourselves. It will change though, especially when we realise it is we who suffer from our own inability to be responsible. It is not educational system. It is slow civilisation. Majority of people are either idiots or tribesmen. Few are civilised. According to Ancient Greek idiots are not mentally deficient, but they are those who are totally self-centered. The ‘idiots’ always run for the private gains and personal interest. They have no public philosophy, no knowledge, no skill, no character and no virtue to contribute to the society. Such people always look out for personal pleasure and treasure. They are supported by like minded politicians, foreign powers and elites of the society for their vested interest. Tribal people follow tribalistic philosophy but they do not necessarily belong to that specific tribe or society. Such people are not able to think beyond the interest of their small tribe or group. For them, their primary religion is their tribe and tribalism is their god. They generally view everything from their own prism and interpret it in their own way. They are always suspicious and fearful of others. They tend to respond to rest of the people with intimidation, force and violence. The ideal persons for the tribal people are the warriors. For ancient Greeks, citizens are those who have the skills and knowledge to live respectable public lives, who know the value of common wealth as well as their rights and responsibilities towards the society. In other words, they help to form a civilized society. |

This though, I disagree with, because gradually more and more people are being made to realise that we are the government, that we are responsible for whatever state our nation is in and that it is us who will make our nation be whatever we desire it to be.
It will take time and progress will be slow, and even might not happen in our lifetime. But someday will be someday when we Nigerians will fulfil our potential and destiny of greatness.

valentineuwakwe: Prominent leaders from various ethnic groups from the South -West , South -East, South- South and the Middle Belt have described the 1999 Constitution as a fraud put together to perpetually subjugate other nationalities under the control of the Fulani. The aggrieved leaders gave the Federal Government a 90 -day ultimatum to constitute a committee on Sovereign National Conference to decide on the repeal of the 1999 Constitution or to dissolve Nigeria’ s amalgamation of 1914. According to a statement on Friday, the Middle Belt and southern leaders made the resolution at a meeting in Lagos . The leaders, who spoke on the platform of the Nigerian Indigenous Nationalities Alliance for Self -Determination, said the 1999 Constitution was responsible for the worsening insecurity and poverty in the land. Some of the leaders who signed the communiqué are former Plateau State Governor , Jonah Jang; Prof. Yusufu Turaki ; a prominent historian, Prof. Banji Akintoye ; President-General , Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo ; Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe; Senator Aniete Okon; and Fred Agbeyegbe . Others include Air Commodore Indongesit Nkanga ( retd. ); Ambassador Godknows Igali; Fred Agbeyegbe , Rear Admiral Geoffrey Yange and Dr Kunle Oshodi . The leaders said all elections must be suspended so that winners would not be sworn in with the same 1999 Constitution which they described as faulty. The communiqué read partly , “ Being confronted by the clear and present danger of extermination in the hands of our supposed compatriots in the union of Nigeria, ( we ) hereby declare a sovereignty dispute with the federation of Nigeria as represented by the Federal Government of Nigeria, on account of our repudiation and rejection of the imposed 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, whose authorship was fraudulently imputed to us. “ Furthermore , effective from today, 18 th December , 2020, (we ) give a 90- day notice to the Government of the Federation of Nigeria, the Security Council of the United Nations, the Government of the United States of America, the European Union as well as the international community, of the intention of the peoples of the alliance territories to reconsider our continued allegiance to the disputed 1999 Constitution as well as the unitary union of death, attrition and backwardness it foists on us. “ It is our demand that in the 90- day period of this notice , the following specific actions must be taken by the Federal Government of Nigeria to firmly set in motion an irreversible process by which the aforementioned grave constitutional grievances would be addressed :
A formal announcement by the Federal Government of Nigeria acknowledging the constitutional grievances and sovereignty dispute now declared by the peoples of the South and Middle - Belt of Nigeria. “ A formal commitment by the Federal Government of Nigeria to the wholesale decommissioning and jettisoning of the 1999 Constitution . “ A formal announcement by the Federal Government of Nigeria suspending further general elections under the disputed 1999 Constitution . “ A formal initiation of a time- bound transitioning process to engender the emergence of fresh constitutional protocols by a two - stage process in which the constituent regional blocs will, at the first stage , distill and ratify their various constitutions by referendums and plebiscite and in the second stage , negotiate the terms of federating afresh as may be dictated by the outcomes of a referendum and plebiscite. ”

The pity is that Buhari seems to get power when Nigeria's revenue from oil goes down. Then ignorant people claim he is underperforming as if not listening to Joseph and saving in times of plenty has no consequence when the time if plenty ends and famine begins. Have you all so quickly forgotten the billions of dollars and pounds and euros in ghanamustgoes and tucked away in soakaways?
