The "new" pump you said you bought may have been a locally refurbished unit that may still be faulty. Sometime you may have to try a few tokunbo units before you get it right. The challenge is knowing which one is truly a tokunbo unit or a repaired one unless you have a keen eye for identifying the correct one. Car-Doctor |
Aside from a stick shift car being cheaper to buy and maintain, its the real driver's car. It engages you in every way. More fun, if you have plenty of power under the hood to play with. Car-Doctor |
bebedlolo:USAutobuy and others have answered your question. The gearbox would eventually pack up and you must replace it to 13 pin to solve the problem. |
Hello fellow Nairalanders. I have written several articles on air suspension problems associated with cars that have them fitted as standard from the factory. Problem is the fact the bad roads all over the country takes the toll on most of these cars and over time it becomes a real issue. Air suspension failures could lead to poor vehicle handling and a very bouncy uncomfortable ride. Air suspension issues could result from leaking bellows or airlines, faulty level sensors or a faulty air suspension module. Most of these faults could easily be diagnosed using a Scanner adapted for air suspension modules. Due to the complex nature of most modern air suspension designs and the lack of proper training of air suspension technicians and lack of air suspension tools, permanent failures may occur with dire financial consequences. Repair costs may become too expensive and vehicle owners may eventually decide to dispose of the vehicle. A solution is still at hand. We have heavy duty telescopic shock absorbers and coil spring conversion kits in stock for all makes and models including Mercedes Benz, Toyota, BMW, Volkswagen, Land Rover, Range Rover and all American makes and models. When fitted, you can rest assured that your vehicle will be back on the road and fully functional without the headache of bumpy rides and maintenance issues. I'm getting tired of witnessing the same scenario on this same stretch of road in Abuja. Just last week i posted an accident report involving a Toyota Camry sedan and a goods truck. Several other similar accidents have been reported on this particular stretch of the Murtala Mohd express way and today a similar accident occurred in exactly the same manner, around the same time and about 200 meters from the one I witnessed last week. Same reasons also, with the vehicles over speeding and somehow ending up mangled underneath the rear of a truck. In this case, there were no fatalities but the front seat passenger and driver suffered severe injuries and were in a coma as at the time they were taken to the hospital. Two infants and a woman in the rear seat escaped unscathed. Is it really over speeding that causes this accidents or drivers enjoying the comfort of the smooth stretch of this road and dozing off behind the wheels or some mysterious force that we are yet identify? Federal Road Safety please do something before more lives are lost here.

This accident occurred this afternoon around 3.00pm on the Murtala Mohammed expressway popularly known as the Kubwa express way. Main cause; over speed and reckless overtaking. The Toyota Camry in the picture while on top speed recklessly overtook another vehicle from the right lane not knowing that a slow moving lorry heavily laden with sacks of onion was right in its path leaving the car without enough time or space to avoid ramming into the rear of the lorry. On this occasion also, the two occupants of the front seats died on the spot. The seat belts couldn't do much to help as the entire front half of the car was completely mangled underneath the rear end of the lorry. I had just helped to remove the man laying the ground who was the front seat passenger before taking this pics. He was already dead too. The only survivor, a middle aged woman seating in the rear was extracted and quickly rushed to the hospital. I have no further information on her condition after she was freighted away in the back seat of another car. Funny enough, this accident happened at almost the same spot, in similar circumstances and barely 3 months after another accident involving a Toyota Rav4 and an AMAC transport bus caused a heavy gridlock with possible fatalities. I think that a serious failure in driver training and licensing as well as speed monitoring by law enforcement agent such as the Police and Road Safety corps is the major cause of the level of carnage and deaths that we experience on these scary Nigerian roads. Something urgently need to be done. Same as well on this occasion, NO AMBULANCE, NO FIRE BRIGADE. Just ordinary citizens doing our best to offer help in an almost helpless situation. God help us. WHEEL SPEED SENSORS 8K EACH. KNOCK SENSORS 10K EACH. OEM FUEL FILTER 3K EACH. 30K for labour? A bit high but that's automedics for you. Cardoctor. |

MSItachi:Brakes going soft or flat to the floor could be your brake master cylinder being faulty because of weak piston rubbers. Another possible cause could be stiff brake caliper plungers or caliper pistons. The ABS pump (if installed) could be faulty too and may also contribute to the problem. Vibration of the vehicle while braking at speed is definitely due to warped brake disks (especially the front ones). For the AC, get an experienced AC guy to check your system for leaks. Cardoctor. |
BLOWN HEAD GASKET: Aside from most of the symptoms that you have mentioned, a blown head gasket could also cause severe engine over heating due to combustion pressure forcing its wasy into the water jackets of the engine block hence stopping the coolant from circulating. Easiest way to test for this is to fill up the radiator with coolant, remove the radiator cap, start the engine and rev up to 2500rpm. If its a cylinder head gasket failure you will have the coolant gushing out profusely from the radiator filler top. Car-Doctor. |

You better be careful because you could end up melting the plastics on your fuel pump and injector nozzles. urchmanx: Thank you Car-doctor and mejai for all the support and interest. They have fixed the car by Ik as recommended by mejai. Ik is the best, he dictated and fixed the car in less than an hour. I will recommend him to anyone with such a car anytime. That means that you had a suspension problem and not a transmission problem. The TCM on your car is programmed to detect the ride height level of the car in order to avoid damaging the gearbox, axle or engine components that are underneath the vehicle. If the vehicle is too low, it will disengage the drive and display a warning on the dash to visit the workshop. You should have observed these. . Car-Doctor. |
oluseyioba: I drive a 1997 Camry V6 n the trac off light has been on 4 a while now....what could b the cause of this?TRAC means Traction Control on Toyota models. Scan to check to see that your ABS sensors are connected and working properly as well as your ABS pump. HOW IT WORKS: Traction control helps limit tyre slip during acceleration on slippery or wet surfaces to prevent the drive wheels from spinning uncontrollably without grip. Most modern cars have electronic controls built into the drive train to limit power delivery for the driver in event of the vehicle slipping or sliding and losing control of its direction of travel. The Traction Control device steps in to assist the driver in eliminating wheel spin during acceleration and may also helps the driver brake under its control. Powerful older rear or front wheel drive cars often had a primitive form of traction control called a Limited Slip Differential (LSD). A limited-slip rear axle will mechanically transfer power to the rear wheel with the most traction, helping to reduce, but not eliminate wheel spin. While limited-slip rear axles are still in use in many front- and rear-drive vehicles today, the device can't completely eliminate wheel spin. Hence, a more sophisticated system was needed. In modern vehicles, traction control systems utilize the same wheel-speed sensors employed by the Antilock Braking System (ABS) but with its own dedicated control module. These sensors measure differences in rotational speed to determine if the wheels that are receiving power have lost traction. When the traction-control system determines that one wheel is spinning more quickly than the others, it automatically "pumps" the brake to that wheel via the ABS pump to reduce its speed and lessen wheel slip. In most cases, individual wheel braking is enough to control wheel slip. However, some traction-control systems also reduce engine power to the slipping wheels. On a few of these vehicles, drivers may feel pulsations of the accelerator pedal when the system is reducing engine power much like a brake pedal pulsates when the antilock braking system is working. Many people mistakenly believe that traction control when switched on, would give the vehicle more grip on the road. Traction control does not have the ability to increase traction. It just helps to prevent a vehicle's wheels from spinning. For drivers who routinely drive in muddy roads, snowy and icy conditions, traction control, antilock brakes are must-have safety features.
Intermittent starting problem on an 2007 honda Accord Auto 4 cyl . Battery is new and all dash lights come on when key is turned to start and nothing happens no sound at all. Shake shift leaver or move from P to N and try staring again and most times starts immediately but sometimes you have to move shifter back and forth many times before it will start. Seemd to happen in spells initially, but it's becoming more frequent. Car starts strong when it does,so I'm thinking the starter might still be okay (might be wrong though). What could be wrong? I don't want to change starter and still have this issue.
Change your gear selector range switch. Better still, try another one on just to have a quick check. I have a feeling that it may be faulty. Car-Doctor.

. It was towed to a workshop. The mechanic claimed a wrong oil was used which I can't remember. He said it is a Nissan oil that was used. I kinda believed him cos I also used an fx35, so I suspect any of my siblings may have used the fx35 oil for the camry. Ok, cos I was broke then, I yielded to his advice to buy another gear box but 10pin instead of 13pin that came with the car. Movement seems ok but I noticed the transmission isn't too smooth, worst of all, it jerks when moving from 1 to 2. Pls what danger does this pose on the box and any other critical part of the car? Pls I need your help. Thank you
