What town are you in? If you are in abuja , call Emma on 0813 694 4113. |
What a joke. |
rosco191:The Abro you used may have damaged your gearbox. I think its a bit too late. You may have to consider replacing the gearbox. |
tunnyflow:Of all cars. Why a Ford Focus or Mondeo? How many do you see on the road here? |
billionjoys:1992 car? 23 years? What do you expect after so much mileage? Gearbox should be due for change if not maintained properly. BTW, what's the mileage? |
obi2ice:Too bad. It seem that your mechanics were quick to remove the drive shafts without alowing the gearbox to cool down properly. Once the drive shafts are removed, cool air passes through the gearbox when the gearbox is still hot. The valve body and other internal components are supercooled causing the solenoids and valves to constrict in their cylinders which would result in stuck movements or lack of adequate pressure to facilitate smooth gear changes. You may have to replace the valve body. Car doctor. |
pearharbour:Simple. On most modern Toyota's , just pull out your gearbox dip stick and you will see the recommended oil specification for your car inscribed on it. Car doctor. |
Its most likely that you bought an already faulty gearbox. Most of these second hand units come from decomissioned cars that are doomed for recycling in america or the far east. These guys out there just bring in anything whether tested or not and sell them off as so called tokunbo or Belgium. You should have had a 1-2 week warranty on this item and gone straight back to the seller to have it replaced if faulty. Unless your mechanic is not telling you the truth, he should have advised for it to be changed immediately. If its already past the warranty period, you might as well ask your mechanic to change the oil filter, flush out the old transmission fluid or service the valve body of the gearbox and recharge with new atf as specified by the manufacturer. The chances of your tranny having a BRAINBOX issue is quite slim as these cars, from my own experience hardly have these issues. Car doctor. |
I used to do 160 kmph on this road back in the 80s. So bad. |
Hmmmm. This fish is so deadly. I hear the that the teeth are so razor sharp that they are used in making clippers for cutting hair. RIP to the dead. |
nationwide1:Turn by turn. E no easy. Who next? |
APRIL 22nd. AM I ALONE HERE? HABA!!! ![]() |
If your CHECK ENGINE LIGHT is on, get the vehicle scanned and post the results here. Its better than beating about the bush here with all sorts of assumptions, insinuations, opinions and speculations........ Still searching for more grammar. Cardoctor |
So many reasons why you may be experiencing high fuel consumption. If the Check Engine Light is on then first and best thing to do is carry out a diagnostic scan. If you are in Abuja we should be able to help. This post is not an advert. Its to share my experience with other nairalanders. I paid N15k for it. |
eromspete:Yes but SMS credit on the device will be quickly exhausted as the messages sent by the device will be unnecessarily frequent. What I normally do is simply dial or send an SMS to the device and it will immediately reply with a text message of my car's location. You can also preset the device to record location data at any selected time interval on the SD card which you can remove and insert into a reading device such as a PC or android phone and it will show all locations that were recorded while it's in operation. |
Stylz69:Well explained although the op states that the sound seems to be coming from the rear and I know that Rav 4's come with front engines. Are the KPOM sensors fitted to the rear tyres? Could you also explain what kikiki, kakaka and grrr sensors do and where they are found on a car. Grrrrr....... Cardoctor |

Suru Lere. Patience is virtue. |
Instead of NL'ers to console this bro una dey tease am una dey help am apply salt to him bruises na wao! I have a case I'm presently standing in as a witness. I was taking a famliy member in her highlander from Kubwa to her office in February this year when I tried to stop and make some purchase. Some Hausa thugs who were already high on some cheap stuffs came surrounded the car and started to force the door handle in order to gain access to the car and make away with it but a patrol team came as I raised alarm and chase them. One of the was caught while 3 escaped. Abuja and its environs is now a den of car snatchers that perpetuate their ungodly acts in broad day light while armed. Pls fellow NL'ers DON'T leave any bag, cash, phone, pc, tablets or valuable item in ur car when u are leaving the car when u visit a place that have securitymen pls be friendly and familiar with them n thus park ur car close to their vicinity, ALWAYS turn your steering till it locks, DON'T keep original document of ur car in the car instead make copies of the document nd leave in the car, insure your car, invest in a car tracking device (it baffles me why would a person invest 1million in a car yet ignore a valuable safety device of 100k approx.), invest in extra security locks such as steerting+ pedal locks, aftermarket immobilizers and car alarm systems, park ♈ōϋя̅ vehicles in lighted areas, when driving pls DON'T stop to pick up strangers and observe drivers in front, by ♈ōϋя̅ side and behind u f®я signs of danger, pls if possible avoid night/in desolate areas driving and if u must drive, carry an adult that u know very well, insure ur vehicle, most importantly Pray fervently that none of u or ♈ōϋя̅ family, friends, colleagues or luved ones fall victims. ThanksThanks for this candid advice. I wish I knew all this before my Honda Crv was stolen from where I parked it in area 11. |
Post pictures if you have any. |
The van in the picture is what's called a Luton van in the UK. Its perfect for furniture transportation and is very popular with house moving and removal companies. |
What is KPOM? |
ukata16:Like I stated. Its a remote engine starter module that is connected to your car's ignition. Its used for starting your car engine with a remote control fob while you are at a distance away from the car. It doesn't affect your car's operation if its already disconnected and the remote control not being available. Cardoctor |
With the current spate of cars disappearing from where you parked it to drivers or car mechanics taking your car for a joy ride as well as friends borrowing your car for a quick errand only to turn up hours later with one excuse or the other, a simple solution is at hand. Furthermore, here in Nigeria, its quite common to hear that the car you dropped off at the mechanic or panel beater for repairs has ended up wrecked in an accident at night miles away from his workshop and the driver nowhere to be found. This simple tracker easily fits into your palm and can be placed discreetly anywhere within the vehicle. It can immediately give you an exact pinpoint of your car's location anywhere on this planet either in map or satelite picture format. It could also indicate the speed at which the vehicle is travelling or if outside a set geo-fence. You could also set it to monitor any conversation within earshot of the inbuilt microphone. Other features include a micro SD card slot to record all geographical locations of your vehicle at a set time interval. No sign-up is required or expensive periodic contracts apart from registering a GSM sim card on any network. It also has the possibilities of overriding and switching to GPRS function where GSM networks are not available. Although it comes with two lithium-ion batteries that have a standby time of 5 days if charging power is disconnected. It can be charged continuously from the car battery with any mobile phone car charger that has a USB port. I have one of these fitted to my car in a secret compartment under the dashboard and I can instantly call up references of my car's GPS location via a text message which I can instantly download to see my car's precise location on any map application on my android phone or PC. My driver once took my car out to have it refuelled during the recent fuel scarcity here in Abuja. He quickly got the car refuelled and decided to head home to where he lives in Kabusa. After several hours of waiting, he cleverly called to let me know that he is still on the queue with about ten cars to go before he gets served and that there was an earlier delay in the discharging of the fuel at the station. Hmmmm. On his return, he was in shock when I told him the time he left the station and where he went afterwards. He is so scared of me now thinking that my "Juju" must be out of this world. I must state that it doesn't shut down the car like other more expensive systems but I don't really care because most car thieves usually vandalise or burn stolen vehicles when they discover that a device was fitted and the vehicle shut down in their bid to escape. All I really should want to know is where my car is and arrange for it to be recovered. Price is N15k. If you'd like to get one, call me on 08122711058.
