Good day everyone on this platform, keep up the wonderful job

I need assist with work experience

In regards to work experience for Canada immigration , does a family owned business count? ( the business is registered with CAC) .

I am registered as a director and shareholder in the company. Can this be used for proof of experience? I have al the documents form CAC

It can be used as long as you have adequate proof that the business is authentic and running and you were working there and receiving a salary (bank statement or cash certificate). Also you need evidence from clients. Functional address etc

Pls, am very confused about my Neco certificate. Am processing Canada work visa. And I have only Neco statement of result issued by my school. Pls can I use my Neco statement of result or my Original Neco Certificate.
Are you the one processing the work visa by yourself or is someone processing it for you? What do you need the NECO certificate for? Is it for credential evaluation or to submit to Canadian Government?

Good morning house, please I have 2 questions. Completeld my MSc in uk in 2016, stay there from 2015 to sometime in 2017. Been in Nigeria since then.

1. So now when providing PCC, do submit UK PCC and Nigeria PCC. Since it’s places you’ve lived for more than 6months and with the past 10years.

2. And if I need to request for uk PCC, how to do I go about the process and how long will it take?

Thanks.

IELTS
This little writeup is an IELTS advisory. It's a few thoughts and processes that have worked for me while doing the IELTS. I wrote 2 IELTS exams in August; August 24th and 31st. I wrote IELTS General on the 24th and IELTS Academic on the 31st. I needed both for separate reasons and passed both in one go. I didn't remark any parts.
IELTS GENERAL: L9 R9 W7.5 S7.5
IELTS ACADEMIC: L8.5 R8.5 W8 S8
These tips are not study materials, neither will the tips alone help you pass the IELTS. They are just things you need to consider while studying for and taking the exam.
General tips:
1. DO NOT underestimate the IELTS or overestimate your abilities. Don't say it's just English. Take time to read and practise. People take this exam 3 - 4 times and they're not olodos. Take your time. I say, 1 month at least if you've written before, 2 months of you've not written but feel very confident and 3 months or more if you have never written or don't feel confident.
2. Understand the exam format. I.e. how many questions per section, types of sections and how many minutes per section. Time is a huge factor in this exam, practice using time.
3. Computer based exams require great computer skills. If in doubt, use paper based. In fact, I believe that because the IELTS is an exam and it makes people nervous, if you cannot type 50 words per minute and/or navigate cut and paste easily, use paper based. If you do not use your computer daily as part of work, use paper based.
4. Eat before the exam. Listen, I learnt this the hard way when I wrote the GRE without eating. I had a headache during the exam, failed and had to rewrite it. If you're not hungry, snack a bit and have some water. It helps feed your brain.
5. Relaxxxxx in the exam hall. Don't come and kill yourself. Don't work yourself up so badly that your hands are shaky. (A.C. go dey the hall, come with sweater in case it gets too cold. Cold can affect your thought process)

Specific tips:
Listening:
1. They're trying to trick you. Okay maybe not trick but they want to know if you can follow a conversation. E.g. the person will say... We have option a, b and X. Then the respondent will say, do you have option c. The person will say yes do you want it? Then the respondent will say no o, I want x. If you hear C and write C, you have failed. Just because something is said doesn't mean it's the answer
IELTS wants to know if you understand when a person backtracks.
2. Use the quiet time they give before the listening starts to read the questions. It gives you a slight glimpse into what to expect.
3. Follow instructions. If they say 1 word, use 1. If they say 3 use 3. Instructions change from passage to passage, so read instructions for every passage.
4. The answers are in what the person/people are saying, don't drift off. Don't lose concentration but if you do, don't pause and try to remember, you will miss more answers. Move on!

Reading
1. The answer is always in the passage. You never have to guess, assume or formulate answers. The answer is always always in the passage. E.g If they say X has a long tail and 2 branches, don't assume that it means Y unless the passage says it means Y. X and Y, in this example, have no connection unless the passage says otherwise.
2. If you don't understand a word, skip it and keep moving. You have no reason to need the word unless you believe it's the answer to something else. Sometimes crazy words are just there to trip you up.
3. Always read the whole passage first. Even if it's just once. It helps you understand what the passage is talking about. Some people believe you should read questions then use it to find answers in the passage but I believe in reading the passage at least once first.
4.Take notes. Longer passages are easy to forget. Briefly summarise it to yourself first.

Writing
1. If they say write 150 words, aim for 200. If they say write 300, aim for 350. The examiners seem to love longer passages.
2. When you want to write any argument question, put these 4 words in your mind; First, Second, Furthermore, Finally. With composition, it is important to group your points. Start with a heading that explains the argument in paragraph 1. Then proceed to take a side of the argument in paragraphs 2 and 3. Then conclude in the last paragraph.
TIP: Use the last paragraph to tell them that you understand the other side of the argument o. Butttt your own side makes more sense to you. (Learnt this from GRE)
Your argument must flow like a secondary school debate.

3. They don't fact check anything in your essay. Feel free to make up stuff to fill in your essays. You can say Obama legalized free movement to the US from Africa, they don't care. As long as it matches the point you are trying to make. Don't lie too much sha.

4. Be coherent and stick to the point. If they ask how many flights there are to Uyo on a daily basis, don't tell them about how Lagos traffic is bad. Stick to the point! In fact, read the questions several times to stay on point.
5. Time can go zoom zoom, apportion your time. Give yourself 10 mins to cross check the essay.
6. Punctuation! Add your full stops and commas. Please. And check your spellings.... Very important.

Speaking
1. Just keep talking. I kept running out of things to say in this section. Here, just be a parrot. As long as you stay on point, you're fine.
2. The examiner is Nigerian and will understand you. Forming accent will give you headache and make you even more likely to make mistakes.

I am not an English tutor so please don't PM me. @blissnenye and @johnnybravo1990 seem to be able to help with tutoring (I didn't use them so I cannot vouch for them). There are also numerous resources on Nairaland. Just search.
I hope this helps you.

With an Msc and being under 30, you have a great chance of getting ITA to Canada.
Start on page 1. Read it like a book. If you read and still have questions, wait till you finish reading the whole page before you ask because your answers may be in the responses below it.
Step 1 is to simulate your scores. Use 8777 as the IELTS score benchmark and put in all the other details. Also read up on proof of funds because proof of funds for 1 person is different for 3 people. These details will let you know what your score is. Once you find your score go to https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/submit-profile/rounds-invitations.html
and compare it with the scores of the last few months. That will let you know where you stand.
Step 2 is to get your masters evaluated by an ECA
Step 3 is to get your proof of funds together.
Hope this helps

Good evening,
Just want to find out if anyone had done evaluations with ICES and / or WES? if anyone has any idea on processing times from when originals are gotten and verifications are done.

Use the search bar. Search for WES timeline or ICES timeline. Try other combinations till you find as much information as you need.
Everyone who wants to do Express Entry has used an ECA but each person's story is different. It depends on the university, number of days needed by the ECA organisation and can last from 4 weeks to 6 months. Do your own search with your university name to find the information you need.

The name thing is always very dicey because there is no guarantee the divorce process will be over by March.
In my opinion, there are 2 options.
1. Go ahead to do a change of name and affidavit back to your previous name and then use that as basis to get a new passport.
2. Write exams with your current name and when the divorce proceedings are over, you can use the divorce documents to do another change of name back to your old name, then renew that passport. This is because divorce does not automatically mean your name has changed back. So when you're submitting to the Canadian Government, you do a letter of explanation stating why you have 2 different names on your documents etc etc.

P.S: If you have children, it may complicate your application so I suggest you start looking at all the legal requirements to bring your children along.

Neeri:
Hello Good people!
I've been a silent follower of this group and now I've finally caught this Canada Bug. grin . please I have some few questions. Gurus in the house I need your kind help.

I'm currently separated and the divorce proceedings in court but my passport bears my spouse name and since we're no longer together I would like to use my maiden name for my application and the passport will expire march next year .

I want to know if I can sit for my ielts exam with this passport bearing in mind that it will expire in march?

Secondly,
Is it possible to write the exam with my maiden name though I will present a passport which holds a different surname or should I just wait till next year when it expires and my divorce is finalised before I begin this process and also renew my passport?

I will be 35 April next year and from what I've read so far I loose points for birthdays and I'm worried.

Note:All documents are in my maiden name
Highest qualification is MSC.

Thank you for your kind responses.

Hello, everyone. Please I need help concerning the right NOC to choose. I have a Bachelors degree with 6years work experience in this field, and a masters degree in public health with no work experience whatsoever in Public health field. Would it be okay if I choose the NOC for my bachelors degree even though I also claim to have a masters degree as my highest qualification?
Also, does anyone know anything about alternative career for professions that are regulated or licensed?
PLEASE, I NEED KIND HEARTED FELLOWS TO HELP ME OUT HERE! THANKS.....
NOCs have nothing to do with your degree. They have to do with your job description. Since your 6 years work experience is in the bachelors, use the bachelors. However, be very careful that you don't just pick the NOC based on your bachelors degree but based on your job description. Very important

I cannot confirm this but its possible that WES sent the verification and the school responded immediately so she did not know verification had occured. Just speculating sha

Good morning house

Please I have a question as regards to my friend's evaluation with WES. After WES acknowledged receipt of her documents from her school, in about 2 weeks they updated her account to the last stage where you have to wait for your completion date. There was no verification sent to her school and so she wonders the possibility of this since it's like skipping a stage. She schooled in Ghana. Does it mean that the verification stage is not for everyone ?

You should only do medicals before ITA if you're 500% sure you're getting ITA in the next draw. I.e. your score must be super high. If not wait till ITA.
This is because medicals have 1 year validity. It's better to wait till you're sure you have ITA or you might end up doing medicals twice.

262 and 287? Are you sure you don't mean 462 and 487? Also this question is answered on page 1. Yes you can use NYSC. Go back to the former job and beg the person whomever is there that you need a reference letter. You need a letter headed paper that shows address, and telephone number of the organisation so IRCC can confirm you worked there if need be.
baberedefined:
Hello everyone. Please I need your suggestions. So I worked for 2years and 4 months at my last job. The one before it was my Nysc. If i use this, my crs score comes up to 262 and increases to 287 if I have a 3 year job experience.

My question is can I use my Nysc work experience?

If yes, how do I go about it if I cant get a letter headed work reference letter because my supervisor at the time no longer works there

It doesn't matter but if you're scared, you can still do an LOE stating that you did the course on weekends or something like that. Lagos Ibadan is not 45 mins o. Google maps will cast you! Many full time masters can be undertaken online and they still count. I don't think you should be worried. Create your profile with the truth.

Good morning guys..
Please I need guidance and clarifications as I am about create my express entry profile.
I had my NYSC in Oyo State and stayed back to continue to work as I got a job. I registered for my Master's program in Unilag during this period and I concluded the degree early this year. In fact, I have completed the ECA
I still work at this current place and I want to claim it as part of my work experience because I need it to complete my 3yrs.
I am however scared there wouldn't be any red flags as I was working and studying in different states.

One needs to get things straight before creating this profile to avoid unnecessary anxiety later on.

I was going to add LOE stating Ibadan to Lagos is 45mins drive away... but I need expert opinions on how to forge ahead.

You cannot send it yourself for ECA.
Your University can work with your copy but my guess is that most universities will NOT. With a transcript, it must be original, stamped and signed by the university transcript office etc. Even after this is done, the university still must verify it was sent from them.
Apply directly to your University.

tubabainc:
Good morning good people. I am still a bit confused about this ECA stuff. If I already have my transcript gotten in 2014,is it possible that I send to any of the ECA bodies who will in turn seek verification from the school attended? Or is it compulsory that the School should be the one to send the transcript. Also, will it make it easier if the school can work with the copy of the transcript I have with me rather than processing a fresh transcript. Thank you.

1. Don't claim 2 or more certificates o since WES says it's 1certificate. They can ban you for lying
2. You will enter the pool again.
3. Reject and wait
Igethope:

I Wes evaluated your 4 bachelors degree and 1 year diploma and the summary says

Bachelor's degree (four years)

1.Can u still claim two or more certificate?

2 if you eventually get ITA and CIC says is not acceptable but a new ECA IS ready can that be accepted POST ITA Or you have to go back to pool ?

3. Should the ITA be rejected instead till new ECA is ready in JANUARY?
