Soludo, as likely Igbo President, is sellable than Obi. The combative nature of the obidients has diminished his chance nationwide.
.

I have said it many times, the longer it takes for the Ibos put their weight behind an electable ibo leader the longer it will take for them to realize their ambition of an Ibo president. Obi is unelectable!

I have the example of Awo, Awo was unelectable despite his brilliance. You cannot become president of Nigeria if you are unsellable outside your tribe….you are just a regional champion.

I like Soludo but he is in the wrong party and you just don’t decamp to a party and get the presidential ticket ahead of those who Laboured through thick and thin. 2 other Ibos that are electable are Umahi and Chidoka. However, Chidoka just resigned from politics.

Tinubu with a second term installing Umahi as VP is IMHO the ibo’s best path to the presidency. But in their shortsightedness they will insult you and say it’s a ploy to get Tinubu a second term. Like I have said before the Tinubu we are seeing is not moving like a man who cares if you vote for him in 2027 or not. Or they will reject him because he is from Ebonyi.

IMHO from my reading of the current political climate, the only person who has what it takes to actualize an Ibo presidency is Tinubu. The North will not but the ibos see him as their enemy. They don’t realize in politics, sometimes it is in the interest of your enemy to help you just like ElRufai helped Tinubu. Any sensible ibo man should see what is happening with the tax bill, only Tinubu can galvanize the rest of the country including the middle belt despite the opposition of the North and not bend. if Tinubu says ibo will be VP or president, ibo will be VP or president, nobody else on the scene right now can do it. Obasanjo failed,At8ku failed. Unfortunately the next slot is 2039 by which time Tinubu may be to old to wield the powers he has now but he will be able to do half the job by puting an Ibo man in Aso rock as VP.

You should be thinking more on PBAT because Obedient still know their leader
We are not worried about Tinubu because Tinubu himself is not worried about 2027. Do the reforms he is undertaking look like that of a man who cares about 2027?

Bold leaders do the right thing, they don’t worry about reelection. Leaders working for the next generation don’t concern themselves with the present because the present will always resist the necessary changes.

If he contests and he loses, he comes back to Bourdullon as an ex president who has done more to restructure the country for the better than all the presidents and heads of states since 1966. Obi will never. Have the honour of being called a president talk less an ex-president.

I however give you one sure thing. If he does contest and he loses, it won’t be to Obi.

You see that GCFR? It is only for presidents and heads of state.

I have repeated it many times Obi will get less votes in 2027 than he got in 2023. Most of his staunch allies have deserted him. Okupe, Okonkwo, etc. now hos elected members are abandoning him. They are seeing what we always knew about Obi. It seems the only people who can’t see are the non Ibo supporters who got sold a bridge in London! For the Ibo supporters it was never about capacity or character or competence (all of which Obi lacks) it was and is about Ibo presidency.

Is abducting someone like a "Mafia Gun-hand", from Lagos, to Ekiti State, at Gun Point, what you call "Pressing Charges"? shocked shocked
Some of you appear to be product of his University in Ekiti, the way you reason. grin
If Babalola was "erudite", he should have just have instituted a Civil Suit in a Court, instead of all these intimidation.
Erudite SAN's, even newly qualified Lawyers know that Defamation or Libel falls under Tort, it is not a Criminal offense and the Police have No-hand in it.
Body of Benchers need to disrobe this man, he has brought opprobrium to their Name.
First of all I saw the video he was arrested not manhandled

Secondly if you were properly educated, the 1st thing expected of an educated person is to look for and read the charges. I posted them in in this thread because I know there are many educated ignorant people like you.

If you had actually read the charges. He is charged under multiple sections of the criminal code. The next thing an educated person would be to google the criminal code and see what these sections related to.

I also read the sections of the criminal code and indeed defamation can be civil and criminal. A simple google search could have told you that.

Afe Babalola became a SAN when they didn’t dish out SANs Willy nilly just like I was educated in an era when our transcripts (not degree certificates) of gained us admission to Ivy League universities abroad without need for any further cverification, certificates or English proficiency exams.

Where my education started is where yours ended. The hallmark of an educated person is in how he thinks and processes information e.g getting his facts before he talks. You learn this if you are properly educated or you would never get good grades if that was not embedded in you. Regurgitating for exams to get a certificate does not mean the school has passed through you, all it means it you passed through a school and remembered facts on the day of the test. Education is not passing exams, education is a critical thinking process which you and many of your ilk on Nairaland display a lack everyday!

Education is not a sham after all Next time you see any of my posts, know you are dealing with someone who has his facts before he posts and come correct or you will be taken to the cleaners.

For those of you who like to post falsehoods, Read section 375 well! defamation is a CRIMINAL offense whether you do so knowingly or not. The only difference is you knowlingly defame the punishment is 2 years in prison while if it is unknowingly it is 1 yr. Posting on social media can be regarded as publishing so be guided

Feel free to verify:

https://lawsofnigeria.placng.org/laws/C38.pdf

Finally, when you publish a book that defames and that book is read in Ekiti, you can be sued in Ekiti. If Afe Babalola lives in Ekiti, and reads (or others read) the book in Ekiti, he can report the criminal activity to the Ekiti police! He is not obliged to come and report you to the Lagos police because you live in Lagos. For the same reason the US charges Nigerian looters in Us courts for money laundering when the actual looting occurred in Nigeria. Defamation occurs in the jurisdiction where the book is read just like money laundering occurs where the money is received. That’s why Afe Babalola is a respected SAN and Dele is an unwashed nobody trying to cash in and make a name for himself in his old age on a movement birthed by ignorant imbeciles and chartalans!

I hope noisemakers are watching the moves of Jagaban, the master strategist. He did not withdraw the bill, he directed AGF to work with NASS to address contentious areas in the bill. Senate then set up a committee to meet with the AGF to address the grey areas. Most of the members of the committee are Jagaban's boys. Meanwhile, Jagaban is still in South Africa while his boys in Aso rock are running things, When he comes back, every issues will be case closed. Okay nah...These are the types of cases where sleeping dogs should be let to lie.....I believe that Farotimi himself may be expecting these cases exhumed.....and brought back to the fore and in doing so...now have the supreme court revisit them. especially now that he Farotimi is a bigger fish and commands larger audience.

If this is the case, then Baba Afe may end up having his legacy dragged through mud...whether or now he is ready for that level of dragging is remains to be seen...and whether or not the accused has enough evidence for his assertions ..we will kuku know soon too.
For an erudite SAN to press charges, I think he knows Dele cannot prove anything.

The constitution (under the concurrent list) also clearly states that the collection of income taxes other than on companies must be collected by states and only states. So federal can set the rate for income tax but it must be collected by states.

See 3rd picture below

The issue here is that VAT is unspecified in the constitution because it is a consumption tax, the constitution talks about income taxes, company taxes, capital gains taxes, profit taxes etc but it doesn’t mention sales or consumption taxes which is what VAT is.

The constitution also says that anything not in the exclusive or concurrent list is automatically residual and the domain of states and states ONLY! That is why the lottery case is significant. Because just like consumption tax, lottery is not mentioned in the exclusive or concurrent lists.

I am sure you don’t even understand the concept of exclusive, concurrent and residual lists. That is why you are saying that lottery is different from VAT.

Even English you don’t understand. I never said they are the same. I said the principle in law from which it is determined who has the right to impose VAT or operate lottery is determined by whether the item is on the exclusive, concurrent or residual lists. For the same reason you cannot have state police or armies because they are on the exclusive list.

Get this into your poorly educated thick skull. Any item on the residual list is under the jurisdiction of states and states ONLY

We have a serious comprehension and education problem in this country!

That is lottery and not VAT, and this is not the first time Supreme court contradicted themselves. They did so in Buhari Vs Yar A' Dua and recently the Presidential tribunal on the issue of Abuja's status in the election.
You are looking at this from a layman’s uninformed and emotional viewpoint. The issue in law is which arm of government has the right to levy taxes of this sort, The constitution specifically identifies what is in the exclusive, concurrent or residual lists. For instance it is the constitution that specifies that company tax goes to federal while income tax goes to states. You cannot impose a tax you have no legal backing to. Unfortunately in the rush to transition to civilian rule they just copied the 1979 constitution and did not insert a provision for VAT. By the rules of the constitution VAT is a state tax.

VAT, lottery etc fall under residual. So Federal govt has no legal authority to levy VAT. It’s an open and shut case, especially since they have ruled in the lottery suit in favour of states.

Tinubu is actually doing them favour by introducing the Bill. If it fail then Lagos and rivers may actually win the case in the supreme Court thereby keeping 100%•
For their information tax on lottery and betting no longer go to federal again after a landmark judgement last week in the supreme Court
It is not a case of “may” it is “will”.

It is however not in the interest of the country for the case to go to the supreme court because every state will just introduce their own vat or sales and it will result in multiple taxes on the same products and inflation.
