Believeintruth:
Apapa was Federal abeg limit the lies. The stretch of Lagos as a capital territory in the 60s ended at Mushin. Yaba was part of Lagos ooooo. Awolowo built Ikeja industrial estate only. Ilupeju and Apap were already in existence built by the British and the Indians. Ikorodu toad was Federal and not built by Awolowo. In fact the FG modernised rhe road from Ojota to Onipanu in the 70s. Take am easy to dey lie.
The fact that you mentioned Mushin, Apapa and yaba as federal territories shows you know nothing.

The federal territory of Lagos was created by the 1954 constitution specially listed an area of 27square miles of Lagos island. How do you fit anything outside Lagos island into 27square miles? Lagos island is the contiguous island land mass from apongbon to ikoyi. Everything else was under the western Region. The original “Ikorodu road” (originally ijebu -Lagos road) was built by the western region. Ikorodu road was the traditional route to Lagos from ijebu via shagamu and if you drive to the east through the old Epe road you will get to a junction that still has the remains of the old single carraige ijebu-Lagos road built by Awo that became ikorodu road. I know this for a fact because part of my fathers land near Ketu was annexed to make way for the road when the FG expanded it Every time we passed a section of that road he would tell us in those days. It’s one reasons today I never buy random land unless it is in a planned estate. In any event, how long is the road? My point still remains what is the totality of all the federal roads in Lagos that we are making all this noise? Length wise It is not up to any state in Nigeria.

Apapa was under the western region. You are right though that the port was a federal port.
Apapa industrial estate was the first industrial estate in Nigeria. It was founded in 1957 by Awolowo. Followed by Ilupeju, iganmu, Ikeja, Ogba, isolo and ijora industrial estates established by Awolowo or his successors. None is a federal or British creation.

This cement own is not clear to me eg assuming a cement dealer bought a truck of cement from Obajana, vat will be deducted from the cements and credited to kogi state , when the cements are brought to Ebony, I don't see any other vat being deducted by Ebony state government. So the consuming state in this case will not get anything as you don't tax a product twice.
You don’t buy cement directly at obiajana you buy cement via the distributor in Ebonyi.

There are 2 ways this can happen either you are a large buyer e.g road construction or estate developer and you buy direct for supply at site in Ebonyi or you buy via the distributor in Ebonyi. Either way Dangote will know that order was consumed in Ebonyi. Don’t forget all these companies have all the data. It is essential for them to know where their products are being consumed. All these companies already have the data.

Nothing is perfect but it will capture a lot more of the consumption in Ebonyi that is currently being attributed to Lagos.

how will they make the calculations without creating double taxation? The North will learn the hard way. They over buillt Lagos with FG money, making it so financially dominant. Today, table don turn.
Stop deceiving yourselves that they developed Lagos with FG money, the only part of Lagos that was federal territory was Lagos island and Ikoyi. The rest was western region, even Apapa port was western region. Third mainland bridge was started with Lagos state money. Babangida only finished it when LASH ran out of money.

Apapa, ilipeju, Ikeja, isolo, ogba industrial and residential estates were all developed by Awo. All those areas were never under federal control. Tell me what exactly is federal in Lagos that does not exist in any other state? Is it that federal govt did not site Peugeot in kaduna , refineries in warri PH and Kaduna, Mercedes in Anambra or steyr in Bauchi or roads and other facilities in those key states or regions? I am not saying that Lagos as the federal capital did not help lagos but Anyone who was around since the capital was moved to Abuja knows that since the 90s especially under Abacha, Federal infrastructure in Lagos was abandoned and left derelict.

Please tell me what exactly is federal in Lagos? Abandoned National theater, tin can port, MMA airport, abandoned national stadium, 1004, Volkswagen, trade fair, festac, 3rd mainland bridge, Apapa express, abandoned federal secretariat, finish…what else did FG do in Lagos for all its time as capital that they did not do in other states? Ikorodu road is a state road built by Awo. Lekki express way was built by Jakande. So tell me which are the federal roads you can list for all the decades of Lagos as a federal capital? I can bet you Lagos has the least number of Federal roads by length of all states of the country.

Thank God you are alive to see that it is Lagos state developing the trains because the next generation will come and say it was FG!

If there was anywhere developed with FG money, it is Abuja and rightly so.

The white man came to Nigeria through Lagos, Lagos was the port for transactions before we were colonized. Trade with the Portuguese occurred through Lagos.

Lagos and Kano were important commercial centers long before there was even a Nigeria. Read your history!

[b]Does Lagos have oil that oil companies are paying taxes in Lagos state?

Just remembered another issue, Niger Delta states will start demanding for 60% of revenue from oil in their states since every state is taking advantage of its revenue.
All the more reason why the new law is good and you should be in favour of it.

Currently Lagos “contributes” N270b to vat and receives N40b or about 15%.

The reality is that of that N270b, maybe only N80b is actually from consumption in Lagos.

As for Niger delta. That is where we should end up, but one step at a time. that is where we were before when regions kept 50% of their earnings. The north is richer than the south. They have. More valuable minerals and agriculture potential than the south. If oil revenue is reduced for them to share it will force them to develop their minerals and agric industries.

This vat law will force the north to develop their region, when they do and see the money they are making, they will be the ones to say they don’t want oil money let everybody keep 50% of its income.

Macphenson:
One of the most controversial issues in this Tax Reform Bill is that 60% of VAT will be given to the state it was collected from, It seems by this it will only favour mostly Lagos and Rivers State to the detriment of the Northern states who are collecting more VAT based on population.

Here is my concern, Lagos state was deliberately made the commercial headquaters of the Nation to the detriment of other states the more reason it collects more taxes.

Practically, All the cars entering the country pays their tax to only Lagos state. Even the cars to be used in Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta and Cross River states. Now this is not fair to these states as they have their own seaports but cars are not entering them, the taxes they are supposed to get as a state goes to Lagos state.

Also, Telecom companies pay their VAT in Lagos because their headquaters are located in Lagos, If this new bill is passed, that is no longer fair to all other states where the Telcom companies operate. Telcom companies should now start paying VAT to each state they operate as you can no longer rob Peter to pay Paul.

Oil companies have their headquaters located in Lagos while they operate in different states especially in the Niger Delta. This will no longer be fair if the bill is passed becaused those states where the oil companies operate will start demanding that the oil companies pay thier VAT in those states they operate.

The truth is this bill if passed, is seriously going to open litany of issues which I dont think at the moment the bill captured or resolved it.
That is a falsehood. Lagos makes the vat it does right now because the head office of moist companies are in Lagos.

Under the changes the vat will be credited to the states where the product was consumed.

An example: all the vat on Dangote cement, MTN, Glo, airtell first bank, Zenith etc is currently attributed to Lagos. If you buy cement to build houses or concrete roads in Ebonyi the vat goes to Lagos. If you make a call or bank in Ebonyi the VAT is attributed to Lagos. Under the new law if passed the vat on the cement, telecom and banking services in Ebonyi will be attributed to Ebonyi state.

So clearly the vat that was going to Lagos will go down, the vat going to Ebonyi will go up. Lagos and Ebonyi will keep 60% of their vat and the rest will be shared amongst all states so each state will actually get more than 60% of its VAT.

This will encourage governors to attract development to their states because they will get more money from VAT from activities in their states.

Lol Indians scammed him. The refinery is unworkable after almost 10 years of investing more than $30b into it from Nigerian forex and all kinds of loans. Naira to dollar exchange rate was very stable in Nigeria until he bought Jonathan into the biggest refinery in Africa idea towards the end of his government in 2014 and he started pumping dollars from our dollar reserves hoping to end fuel problems in Nigeria and west Africa. Within months in 2014 dollar jumped from 120 to 180. Buhari continued with same nonsense and dollar reached 700 before he left office and refinery still not completed. Emilokan as thief man saw what was going on and stopped funding of that refinery with our forex but the damage to our currency had already been done. Total loss of trust in our currency had led to massive hoarding of dollars and scarcity which affected the naira that even floating of naira by tinubu couldn’t salvage the problem. Same dangote moved again by trying to push independent petroleum marketers out of business, import fuel and sell to Nigerians at higher price by using his uncompleted refinery as a conduit pipe to get forex. He showed his hand again and Emilokan saw it when he demanded for billions of dollars to import crude, now he is going to Angola to be a partial owner of a working refinery
when is your movie coming out?

People earning less than 1m (a year) will not pay any tax

Small businesses with a turnover of less than N50m a year will not pay any tax.

People earning less than 800k a month will have their taxes cut by half.

People earning less than 1.7m a month will also have their taxes reduced.

Those earning more than 100m a month will pay 25% up from 19%

You're separating the elites from the politicians... which in fact are the same people making the decision for the Northern people.

Also, you agree with me that their politics is with sentiments because whatever strategy they deploy always have themput their emotions in line with their game plan.

Take for instance Shettima who cried to the elites and told them to come sit on a round table with Tinubu and listen to his plans for the North.

Yes, this is applicable to all regions. There is no region who's elites will support a candidate without a take home.
Nah so why did their masses vote against the choice of the elite in 2003, 2007 and 2011?

Another thing we need to understand is that BVAS has killed all fictitious those 2m votes from the north.

Finally please take some time to study the voting pattern of the North since 1959, the idea of a united North is a myth. There are 3 voting blocks in the North and they never vote in unison because they are fundamentally different in ideaology and orientation. To the best of my Knowledge, the amalgamation of APC under Tinubu with Buhari is the only time in the history of Nigerian elections that the Sokoto/ kaduna axis, the aminu Kano axis in Kano and the Old Borno axis have ever voted in unison. With Buhari out, they are splitting up again. Hence Kwakwanso in Kano.

People don’t seem to understand that Buhari was not the choice of the Northern elite but they backed and tolerated him because to them it was better than GEJ.

True, the West play politics with their brain while the North attach too much sentiments and emotions to its political games.

But you have to understand that the two regions always need each other to succeed in every elections.

SW do not have good relationship with the East and but with the South. The South is open to all regions to align with. For election to be completely a success, at least z three political zones must work together.
I disagree, despite the fact that the northern voters lost 3 out of 7 times. The north are not emotional, they appear emotional now because they are rattled by Tinubu’s reforms. We must separate the Northern electorate and the Northern elite/power brokers. The candidate of the Northern elite has won all elections not because they determine who wins but because they read the room and make the deal with the southern partners that will pit them in power. Obasanjo 2nd term, Yaradua and GEJ 1st term happened because the Northern elite made a deal with the SW. Balewa and Shagari became president only because they made deals with the SE. The northern voters themselves don’t determine who wins but their politicians are the best at the game so they align with who will win and they will make the deal. Right now for all the noise coming from the North, considering the options of Obi and Atiku, they will realign with Tinubu and make a deal if he runs again because they know ultimately he is the best of a set of bad options for them.

The north are never emotional, when they appear emotional, it’s part of a game plan to mobilize and negotiate for power and they rest and revert to strategic mode. The difference with a certain other group is they remain in emotional mode perpetually.

Many people over estimate the Northern vote. I don’t by any means disrespect it but The Northern voters are not as able to determine who becomes president as many seem to think.

If there is any zone that has the best record in voting for whoever eventually becomes president, it is the SW. out of 7 elections, the candidate of the SW has won 6 times the exception being 1999 when the Sw voted for Falae. No other zone has a record even close. The candidate voted for by the core North was defeated 3 times. So the record of the core North is actually 4/7. Same for SE and SS. It may surprise people to know that after the SW the zone that has the best record in voting for the winner is the NC.

These figures may be coincidental, but these are the figures.

If the PDP and LP won’t rescue Nigeria then let’s hope the light at the end of the tunnel the Apc has been talking abt is still intact
If the run seperately the result wil be the same, if they run together the result will be the same.

Why? Because this is not 2023. To start with the o Lu way they run together is Atiku/Obi. Secondly Atiku will be 81 in 2027. Elements in the North may be determined to get rid of Tinubu but they will not want to install Obi through the back door. Thirdly it is not a certainty that PDP will give Atiku the ticket. Which means even if they join forces in another party, we may still end up with 3 strong contenders ala 2023. He may get the PDP ticket but the northern forces decide to float another party. I can’t see ElRufai for example in bed with Atiku or Obi or in PDP. Infact he swore that even in death he can’t be found in PDP. While politicians say all sorts of things, while ElRufai is controversial to some, he is actually a man of integrity. BTW, I am a big big fan of ElRufai.

Finally the North have never been fans of Atiku, please check his results in past elections from 2007, he has never done well in the North….ever!

The North may be making noise now but I will not be surprised if 2027 comes and they grudgingly back Tinubu (if he runs). The truth is they are checkmated. It is in their interest to let Tinubu complete his 2 terms if he wants and know they have 8 clear uninterrupted years especially 8 years that the SW will not fight them over. If you look at the political permutation since 1999. No one has become president without the Votes of the SW except 1999 itself. Jonathan lost because the SW switched their votes to Buhari. The north being the students of politics would have noted this.

This tax bill will remove any doubt that Tinubu is the greatest political strategist we have ever had.

The north is the richest zone in Nigeria. They have minerals, they have fertile agricultural land but they have become lazy and dependent on income from the south.

What Tinubu is doing is restructuring by stealth. This is what those in the North h who are against it fear. They don’t support the bill because it means their governors will now be forced to think and develop their God given potential and many of their governors are leeches. There are very few Bagos or ElRufais in the North.

Now onto Tinubu’s joker. There is a VAT lawsuit instituted by Lagos and Rivers instituted when Wike was governor and pending before the Supreme Court. The recent pronouncement by the Supreme Court on lottery tells us if the suit is heard by The Supreme Court, Lagos and Rivers will win. That means they will lose the vat money they are currently getting from Lagos and Rivers and those states will keep all their vat to themselves.

So the North are boxed into a corner. That is why they are coming up with excuses that are befuddling like it is too soon. Either pass the tax law or lose the VAT from Lagos and Rivers at the Supreme Court. Restructuring is happening. The days of doing nothing as a northern governor are gone!!

This is why I have been saying in other threads to those talking about 2027. The Tinubu I am seeing is not planning for 2027. He is making the changes such that if you like vote for me if you like don’t. I know for a fact that Tinubu knows he was lucky to have won the election and if not for the suicidal actions of the opposition he won’t have won. So I suspect he has said to himself this 1term I will do what needs to be done.

I suspect this is not the end game. The real joker is this: once the North are forced to develop their own industries and potential, they will start to realize they actually are richer than the south and will not want to share their income with the rest of the country. The income from the North can easily surpass all the VAT and oil income from the south within 10yrs if they are serious. For all the oil money that they are obsessed over, the oil sector is only 10% of our GDP. The biggest component is agriculture and the biggest contributor to agric is the North but they refuse to develop the agric value chain because of easy oil and VAT revenues from the south. A lot of our valuable solid minerals are in the North. Once they are not dependent on southern money, true political restructuring becomes easier. If we can acheive regional autonomy, they can keep the presidency for ever.

Gbam! Succinctly put I must say! Some people just want us to run with their suppositions and lynch INEC just cos their favourite candidate sorely lost and another put up a PowerPoint on a screen!

Proof! Proof! Proof! If you have empirically verifiable proof as Olisa is positing, then the courts is where he should make it bare and not on some TV show! Didn't Obi reclaim his mandate in the courts as well as many others even in this dispensation?
That was even when rigging was harder to prove, talk less now!

I find your post very interesting. If you are so much against non-Yorubas moving to Lagos and the wider South West enmass, why not push for the division of Nigeria? That way, you can even sponsor a bill in the National Assembly in Oduduwa nation to explicitly bar Igbos. Malays in then Malaysia did it by expelling the Chinese majority Singapore. Both nations trade together today but have full control over their borders and general immigration. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore#History

I would be amongst the first to support an independent Yoruba nation. Honestly, I believe the new country would do well, especially with the breadth of its diaspora.
.

I am not against non Yorubas moving to Lagos or the SW. When you hear Yorubas increasingly speaking like this you know we are being pushed to the wall. Every other tribe is represented in Lagos, we welcome them, it is only one tribe that causes friction. I should also say it is not all of them after all we lived with them before. It is this new generation of immigrants that come in with their provincial mentality that are giving the rest of them a bad name. I am against those who come here and disrespect, insult and seek to impose their ways on us with impunity. Many of us have kept quiet because we are not bigots by nature, we are accommodating, that’s why people come here but at some point it’s human nature to defend your home, your traditions , your land! It’s happening all over the world. People have kept quiet while immigrants have run riot. Today I saw a video of a Muslim Arab immigrant preacher in Canada preaching against the practice of Christmas in Canada!!! How??!

I have already said it. I don’t believe in battles for which there are no spoils. It is these same people that have checkmated us in this union. I am not for violence and Nigeria will only separate or restructure when the North realize it is in their interests. You need 2/3rds majority to amend the constitution. Even if the whole south and North central vote in favour, which I am sure they will, the NE and NW have 13 states for a reason! Like I also said if you see the uproar from the North over a tax bill you will get an idea of their response to any restructuring, referendum or secession.

So we wait until it is in the interest of the North or the country self implodes at which point everybody will bear his fathers name!
