Believeintruth:The Supreme Court rules based on the law. It has already ruled in Favour of states regarding lottery. It cannot contradict itself. |
Aile:Some of these states don’t seem to understand that they don’t have a choice. If for any reason this bill doesn’t pass. Lagos and Rivers will just continue their court case and keep 100% of their VAT. |
Arobaga:Understand one thing. This oil you people are using to blackmail everybody. It is the north causing all this nonsense o! 1: the oil sector is only about 15% of our El economy. 2: it is only because the govt has become lazy and oil became our largest source of govt and forex revenues that the oil sector became a big deal. 3:other regions including the North were developing their regions just fine before without oil money before the 1967 coup that derailed 4: this tax bill is a first step towards true fiscal federalism and it is my hope that it ultimately leads to everyone controlling their resources including the SS. The North has the potential to dwarf the oil income from the SS more than tenfold. The North has the potential to easily make the money from oil in livestock and associated industries alone. Talk less crops and mining. 5: I need not explain the potential of the SW If I were you I would be concerned that your leaders do not misuse the coming windfall because so far we have not seen anything they have done with the one they have gotten. I wrote a piece about this earlier reproduced below: casualobserver:If I were you I would focus on my governors and elected officials because if there is one state with oil money with nothing to show for it, it is Bayelsa! It’s not like they don’t receive good money as it stands even if it is below their entitlement as owners of the oil. Despite the looting, we see legacy projects in Rivers, Akwa Ibom, cross river etc . Tinapa, Obudu, Akwa Ibom stadium, aviation FBO, monorail, Akwa Ibom roads, PH roads, etc etc. You never hear anything of note from Bayelsa!!! Is it not the same 13% derivation you are collecting? |

phoenix45:Check out the addresss of their “center of excellence” in Botswana on google maps. A bungalow in a residential street. See the company handling $100m project o!

My concern though is that some governors in the short term will not capitalize on their increased revenue. 1: I never like when I hear a governor say we don’t borrow (like Soludo and nassarawa gov though I like them both). To me it shows they don’t understand the work ahead of them and that to attract investment and high income residents, they need to borrow to embark on massive infrastructure and amenities which will increase revenue and pay the loans. To me any leader that says he isn’t borrowing is basically saying I have no foresight. The increased revenue should give then the assurance they can meet the repayments for massive infrastructure projects. For instance (random figures). If you know you are going to get N5b extra a month from VAT see what kind of loan you can access over 10yrs with N5b a month. Let’s just say a bank is willing to lend you N400b, use that to embark on land breaking QUALITY infrastructure e.g housing estates, roads, schools shopping malls etc that will attract high earners out of Lagos to leave in a more peaceful environment and pay their income taxes to you which will further increase your IGR and attract more companies to your state. There is nothing that says a company's head quarters must be in Lagos. If you provide the infrastructure for them to relocate their operations and their staff they will move to your state. Where things will be cheaper. Imagine the transformation if a state had an additional 400b to spend on infrastructure in a single term of a governor? 2: I was a bit disappointed with One aspect of Senator Dickson’s interview where he said he wants the workers who the oil companies fly in to Bayelsa to pay their taxes in Bayelsa. People pay heir taxes where they are resident not where they work. The reason workers are flown in is because they deem Bayelsa uncondusive for living. Why would I want to endanger my life every week in a helicopter if there are good housing estates, good schools, good roads, hospitals, cinema, shopping malls etc in Bayelsa where I work? I would have thought his focus would be on how to make Bayelsa a residential destination that will attract professionals and premium residents from other walks of life not just oil workers. So you see apart from the fact that yes states will get more, we need to interrogate the type of governors and local govt chairmen we elect because they may just fritter away all the gains in the short term though I believe in time they will start competing with each other. The governor I am expecting big things from because I believe he is miles ahead of most of his counterparts is Niger state governor Bago. That guy understands the job. |
DaddyJapan:Imagine? |
It is unfortunate but the region with the oil and the refinery should have the cheapest petrol in the country |
For all those who say why is the police involved. This is why: Nigerians are a difficult people to govern. I wrote a post as to why I support the Uk’s clampdown on immigrants from certain nations who have a different way of life to that of the British including Nigerians. My main thrust is that they abuse the system. When you allow Nigerians unfettered freedom of speech, they abuse it such that over time it has been shown the language Nigerians understand is what we are witnessing…..jungle justice! Be an activist by all means, oppose the govt by all means but when you defame people and make it a habit of running your mouth and crossing the line because you know you can gets way with it in Nigeria. One day you will encroach on the wrong person and you will know you have no monopoly on madness! The reason you can defame people in Nigeria and get away with it is because you know the victim will probably not take you to court because the process is tiresome and even if they get a civil judgement against you it is difficult to enforce. You defame people because you know our institutions are weak. So when people are aggrieved and want to take action, they use the same weak system you abused to defame them to get their pound of flesh. So when you defame me and damage my reputation, I make sure you remember for the rest of your days the day you defamed me. Forget Oyinbo laws, that is justice served! You defame me because you know nothing will happen, I arrest you because I know nothing will happen and that’s the only language the Nigerian understands! Forget all these imported Oyinbo man’s laws, rights etc, this is how we dealt with ourselves before they came and this is how we will always deal with ourselves. The difference between us and the Arabs is the Arabs never pretended to be white men like we do, or tried to adopt their laws. They whip you in public you or lock you up and their society functions. |
Del I don’t respond to eeediots |
Eediot |
MadPolitician:He has no right to defame people, he is always talking like an educated area boy on TV. Abeg they should lock him away for a few months let him calm down, This is not London, don’t read Oyinbo books to the extent you forget where you are, or that you will open your mouth and be making all sorts of allegations like a rabid dog. I hope they get him a barber while he is cooling off. He looks like a man mad from the streets the gave a bath and put in some clothes. |
Decemgood:“Austrian” company with website in English only (no German which is the official language of Austria) No Austrian office only a liaison office. No be Austria the office supposed dey with liaison office in Abuja? No previous projects, website created in 2024, company registered in 2022. Issokay o! Remember free VAT don go o. Company wey wan handle $100m project wey no get previous projects?? Company west wan handle $100m project wey the website Www.Wandeafrica.com (so called center of excellence) dey Go 404: website not found

jmoore:have you heard of the term "rent a white"? this is when you bid for a govt contract and dress an unemployed white man in a suit to deceive the govt officials. The white man will then say "our Nigerian rep (you ) can speak more con the issue" because the white man is just a front and knows nothing. The idea is to give the impression it is a foreign company when in reality it is Nigerians behind it. This company is a sham. it has no previous jobs, it has no office address in Austria, its office in Botswana is merely an adresss no jobs done there. its only office is coincidentally in Nigeria. |
this whole deal is suspicious. a company with no track record but nothing concern me, i am not from Enugu. |
Orch1981:I wont ask you because you are clearly stoooopid! |
SalamRushdie:Do you have sense? Do you know what it means to have extra disposable income? Do you even know what disposable income is? |
SalamRushdie:One? I’ll give you two By removing their taxes they have more disposable income Secondly they have removed VAT on the items poor people spend their money on. 600 food items, education, health care, sanitation, transportation. There is no VAT in the market! |
Ladfem:You pay on outgoing transaction from your account not incoming. If you are poor you are very unlikely to spend N10,000 at a go. And by the way N50 on N10,000 is 0.5% You are complaining about N50 on 10,000 but you have no problem playing POS N400 To get N10,000? I am not a poor man. I don’t pay POS operators for cash. If I am buying something from you and you don’t have POS too bad for you , I find someone who has. |
Context! Then they wanted to hike VAT with no corresponding tax relief for the poor. This time he has excluded the poor from taxes. Mwhenthe VAT increase then would hurt the poor they passed it. Now that there is VAT increase, they say they need to consult. When they removed fuel and forex subsidy these governors didn’t remember the masses because they were getting more from FAAC. Now that they will have to work to generate their money they remmember the suffering of the masses. Yeye dey small To quote Seriake Dickson: “When yaradua proposed 10% for oil producing states, National Assembly reduced it to 3% and heaven did not fall, this tax bill will pass and heaven will not fall” Tell your governors to get to work, the only states that will get less money are Lagos and Rivers. The real problem for them is that while all states except rivers and Lagos will get more money. Their share of VAT going forward will remain stagnant if they don’t deploy their funds to develop their states. The days when Lagos Rivers, FCT etc will provide infrastructure to attract investment and high income residents and the increased collection of VAT as a result will be shared with lazy state governors is gone! |
Believeintruth:Go and rest! I already said goodbye. |
alanto:What is his problem? Is he not a beneficiary of Boko Haram? Abi you don’t know the history? We’re you around in 1999? Have you forgotten how politics was then? Politicians arming thugs all over the country and assasinations all over the place? Don’t you know that Boko Haram started with the arms left over by politicians who armed thugs and dumped them after winning? Then came the sept 11 incident and those bunch of thugs with a cache of AK47 found a cause and the rest is history! |
Politicians are all the same: Atiku and Obi both said they will remove fuel and forex subsidy from day 1. What we are seeing is the demonstration that they would not have had the balls to do it, they would still be consulting and we would be in a deeper mess because they would continue to borrow to pay subsidy. In Nigeria if you consult, nothing will get done. It took 20 years to pass the petroleum industry bill during which investment suffered and oil companies exited and our production declined. That is why Jagaban is cut from a different cloth. It takes a man who doesn’t care about reelection to build a lasting legacy for the next generation. That is why you will not see any lasting legacy for Obi’s 8 yrs in Anambra! The thing is if you watch videos of his campaign engagements that are now circulateding online he actually said what he was going to do in his campaigns but people didn’t pay attention. He actually said he has no time to be dilly dallying. He sets timeline for execution of his legislative bills and programs. There is nothing Tinubu is doing now that he didn’t say he would do, but people were busy entertaining and distracting themselves with CSU and bala blue, Bulaba, singing baba we no well instead of paying attention. |
He better find comfort. We are not being held back by the North anymore. |
fineboynl:Tax reforms will give more monies to states. States will be incentivized to provide real infrastructure to attract investments and the amenities to attract high quality residents to their states. If you keep your vat, then you need doctors engineers lawyers etc to populate your state not okada riders, farmers and almajiris who don’t pay VAT. This will curb the migration to the SW. people will leave Lagos because right now Lagos is unloveable but people are remain in Lagos because there are no viable alternatives. You will stop hearing nonsense like “I have not borrowed money” from governors when they need to borrow to build the infrastructure to attract the industries and residents to their states. 2: Governors will take security seriously because they can’t attract investment and high quality residents if their states are unsafe 3:as a result of the above, if the north develop their potential, they will eventually make more money that the south. The north is actually richer than the south. They have the largest agric and mineral potential. Once they realize they are making more money from agric and associated industries as well as mining that they were making from saharinf VAT and oil from the south they will leave the south in peace and we will have true restructuring. The SS will keep their Oil money. The SE will be forced to develop their region. Nobody will care who is president because it won’t make a difference to your life. If they want they can hold the presidency and the military for life, nobody in the south will care! |
[s][/s] Believeintruth:You brought in zik and guiness to give the impression the industrial estate was federal creation executed by the military and I gave the example of Ife…planned by the western region, but executed by the military with state funds….just like Ogba! And what was the point of UNN in this discussion? Are we chest beating here? There is a reason why Lagos island is the only part of Lagos you will hear “Federal CofO” I am done here! Good bye
|
Believeintruth:Go and read your history. Awolowo created Apapa industrial estate. In 1957. It was the 1st industrial estate in the whole country and he had blueprints for the remaining estates. Western region was under self rule from 1954. Which money do you think the state military govt was spending? You think it was federal money? In that case why don’t you say it was the military that created university of Ife? Because the truth it it came into existence under the military. The actual Construction was done by the military. But is was part of a plan for the western region created by Awo/Ali Tola and merely executed by the military govt with western region/state funds after the coup. In fact OAU was a state owned university until that useless Obasanjo took over all university and made them Federal. Federal territory was never expanded. I have given you the law that established the federal territory of Lagos in 1954, give me the law that expanded it if you are so sure of yourself! Can you see the flaw in your resoning? |
UltraSolid:Kalu was being mature statesman if you ask me, he saw the backlash Ndume received and tried to give him a soft Landing. As for him backing Lawan, I am sure he has learnt his lesson. Ordinarily he should be senate president today! |
He is a worse devil because 1: he lacks capacity 2: he pretends to be a saint Tinubu never claims to be a saint. All he has ever said is I have the brains to do the job. We needed and need a man that can do the job as we are seeing. |
NLCreator666:When I was young Kano and Lagos were neck and neck economically….go and verify. Look at the disparity today. They don’t want development. Keeping their population jobless and poor means they don’t have to engage their brains as a leaders just collect allocation and chop and clean mouth. Whatever the GDP of Lagos is now is what Kano’s should also be. Kano was a trading hub for all the surrounding countries in the Sahel and that made up for its lack of a sea port. But alas!! Sharia law and Almajiris is all we hear! Dangote’s grandfather became the richest man in Nigeria sitting down in Kano. His Grandson had to move down to Lagos and establish most of his businesses outside of Kano to become the richest man in Nigeria. |
