PoliticsRe: Donald Duke For 2007 Presidency? by celemel(m): 12:09pm On Jun 01, 2006

Infrastrucrtural development e.g roads was his initiative when coming in 99. But it was also a neccesity for Nigeria 99. The roads evryone says he has built, he is still owing strabag construction company almost N 5 billion. They have taken him to court and have left the state for good.

Niterider, don't tell a lie in the forum coz u may pollute a lot of minds. Strabag hit a new ground in Equitorial Guinea and therefore decided to leave the shores of Nigeria for good, including Cross River State, Lagos and Abuja. It had nothing to do with any specific project. They wound up their operations in Nigeria, sold their equipment and relocated to EQ GUINEA. Check your facts! Roads contruction have been a continous non-stop exercise in Calabar since 1999 to date. Calabar wasn't the only host of Nigeria 99 and so, could not be the only beneficiary of that jamboree. Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Ibadan and PH were centres too. Why don't we see the same 'benefits' of those other places? Apart from Adamu Mu'azu of Bauchi State, I want you Niterider to tell us any other gov that can truly say anybody in the street, just anybody can speak good of. 94% of the people cannot be wrong. if you still doubt me, check out the poll result in this forum, Anybody who has a question to ask about Calabar, should direct them to me. I dey Calabar now o! No b small enjoyment o! kiss

Yes. Don is in Grail Movement. His wife is a senior member of the Redeemed Church. It doesn't matter whether he worships God or Allah. We've had so many so-called worshippers before and they've all ended up stealing all the money. We need a man that connects with our aspirations, feels the pain like us all and believes that he will one day die and would be called upon by d almighty to give account of his sojourn on earth. Duke fits this bill and so, should be given an opportunity to prove his mettle and give us good quality leadership for the first time in our chequered history.

I think we need a break, a big break in this country. Even if Duke were to hail from the sun or moon, I wud have said d same thing about him. This has nothing to do with where he comes from or what he worships. It has nothing to do with his color, tribe, religion or tongue. We need him, or any other person like him. Imagine this guy at the White House with George Bush, or at 10 Downing Street with Blair, shaking hands and talking as pally to pally, not the drab grey-haired hagard looking African president that the whole world has known us to produce. His appearance would speak volumes on our behalf.
PoliticsRe: Donald Duke For 2007 Presidency? by celemel(m): 4:20pm On May 31, 2006
Two sets of people don't like Duke. They are:

1. The perpetual politicians, who think that governance must translate to patronage of inflated contracts. The average politician in Cross River State does not drive a Hummer, build a skyscrapper or do the 'things' politicians like Victor Attah's followers do with money. Cross River State govt. cannot afford d luxury of 1000 pieces of brand-new BMW cars as seen in Akwa Ibom State. (where the gov we are told, was forced to buy 1000 state-of-the-art BMW's of all models by the authorities of the German govt. after he lied upon arrest at the airport there with a cache of hard currency that he was in Germany to buy cars, and he was escorted from the airport to BMW factory to place d order and he had no choice.)

2. The corrupt top-brass of the civil service, who feel shortchanged by Duke's house-cleaning excersise that completely wiped out ghost names from the staff payroll dbase, who benefitted and profiteered in the ghost-name racket. They cannot ever like him, for he removed 'bread' from their mouths. The Okada man, market woman, honest businessman, student, non-indigene, educated indigene, lecturer, driver, mechanic all like him. And that is a crowd enough to see him thru.

I have always argued. Since some people feel that Duke does not have 'clean' certificates, can they please get to Akwa Ibom State and collect Obong Architect (Dr.) Victor Attah, who has trailer loads of tons of certificates and credentials to become the governor of Cross River State, while they give Mr. Donald Duke (who has fake certificates and no chieftaincy or professional titles) on loan to us, the good people of Akwa Ibom State as governor? We'd be delighted to have him take control of the vast and enormous resources of that state that has been raped and pauperized by the goons and idiots of the Attah dynasty.

God will continue to bless Donald Duke and would surely guide him thru to whatever future calling that destiny has for him. It will be well with Nigeria. cheesy
PoliticsRe: Donald Duke For 2007 Presidency? by celemel(m): 11:27am On May 31, 2006
Am a dukist!  I respect the depth of the guy's mental ability and tenacity of purpose.  For all those who do not live in Calabar or who may still be skeptical, Donald Duke has transformed Cross River State.  I'm not an indigene of the place.  I come from Akwa Ibom State by happenstance, but I live my live in Calabar.  I'm in a good position to tell a bad govt. from a good one, having tasted the two.  Victor Attah in AKS represents the face of everything bad.  He has a commonwealth of 7billion Naira monthly to spend from yest, my state stinks like sh*t.  On the other hand, Donald Duke collects an average of N1.5 billion/ month.  His state sparkles like diamond.  He is Mr. Clean.  Take a walk round the well-paved and tarred roads of Calabar, and you can never find a single empty sachet of "pure water" anywhere.  With the lean reseources at his disposal, he has managed to build so many roads, turn around the old moribund Polycal to an excellent multi-campus University of Technology, offering 29 fully-accredited courses by NUC (University of Uyo has less than 9 accredited courses, and is federally owned), he has transformed d public health system and has employed several expartriate medical doctors to fill in the vaccancies that existed due to dearth of qualified indigenes, the hospitals are clean and smell like the hospitals of old, if you step into any. Duke has successfully executed the ADB-Assisted Water Supply scheme in the major towns of the state with uninterruptible water flowing in homes 24/7 since 2004 till date.  The same ADB load was granted to every other state of d federation yet no other state gov has been able to roll out the project and make it work.  I derive a lot of pleasure, driving around calabar every evening as all the major roads whose construction have been completed have street lights, sidewalks, concrete drains and cool layouts.  Duke has engaged the services of volunteer teachers to beaf up the staff strength of schools.  He set up a think-tank to liase with macmillan books for the mass-production of school text books that are given away to school pupils.  He developed the ranch resort, which is itself a oney-spinner for the government, accounting for a greater percentage of revenue currently accruing to the state.  He started PPP public-private partnership) in the service delivery sector under an arrangement whereby private coys are engaged in running the affairs of organizations like the water board, tourism bureau, schools and other sectors that have for decades been impossible to run by the conventional civil servants.  He has extended electricity to 92% of all the communities in Cross River State.  He does not owe civil servants and recently, he challenged anybody who has any record to show that he is owing any of the contractors who have done a job for him any money, to come out and say so.  No one has yet spoken. The results have been completely amazing.

Above all, Donald Duke has the charm and mental balance to cope with the rubrics of governance.  I know I sound like a sycophant but I must add that am a private citizen of Nigeria, struggling and living my private live here, trying to make ends meet.  But I must confess, I'm crazy about Donald Duke.  He really is da bomb.  I hate politics and politiking because the best would normally not win.  Else, I'd have said, I wud join any Party that presents Duke as candidate for President, use my reseources to campaign for him and make sure, e climbs the big stage.  Nigeria needs him now, more than anyone else.  Forget about the hoopla about Okonjo-Wahala., Pat Utomi, El-Rufai, et al.

BusinessRe: Problem of PHCN/NEPA: Price Of Electricity Is Too Low by celemel(m): 9:19pm On May 06, 2006
Please change d title of this thread to "PHCN: Price of Darkness to high". How would someone say that the 'price' of 'electricity' is high? How do we define 'price' and 'electricity'? When I am supplied less than 1 hr a day of a commodity that I pay for at a flat rate of N2700. 00 a month, can I in all honesty say that I have bought d commodity tht doesn't itself exist? Come on guys, lets get over this stupor. NEPA (or is it PHCH?) has been one big monstrous disaster in Nigeria over the decades. It has assumed a cancerous dimension. We need to scrap this sh*t and return to d stone age (that we are already in, anyway).

Anyway, but not for them, my entry wouldn't have won d 'my day' competition in BBC. grin Take the link and check it out http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/4927362.stm

Where I work, we spend an average of N6,000,00.00/month on diesel fuel to power our pumps in the Water Board, Calabar. This accounts for about 60% of our running cost. Imagine what that could have done to both my organization, the employees and the consumers, if we had sufficient electricity supply to keep the taps in Calabar running. (Of course, our taps never run dry in Calabar, at least in the last 3 years) Thumbs down for PHCN.

PoliticsRe: Vice President Atiku Booed In Lagos by celemel(m): 5:31pm On Apr 12, 2006
Story! story!! Storrryyyy!!!. Once upon a time, an Atiku/ Obj combination was d magic couple needed by the People Destroying People (PDP) to win a 'moonslide' elections in 1999 and 2003. I remember that Audu Ogbeh & co. were in tacit support of this couple. They foisted the couple on we, d ordinary people of Nigeria. Then, OBJ/Atiku was the best thing to happen to Nigeria. At least, Audu Ogbeh and co. and even the toothy Atiku said so. Today, the tables have turned. Politicians are like dogs. They eat their own, insofar as the eating would enhance their comparative advantage. Tom Ikimi was d returning officer at the Eagle Square, when d OBJ/Atiku ticket was forged in 2003 at d PDP primaries. He announced d winner in d person of Atiku/OBJ. Today, he is with Atiku and ACD, not PDP. Same with Ogbeh. They are friends today, enemies tomorrow. But don't allow them to fool you. They are all the same vultures, fighting over the carcasses of the ordinary man who has been pauperized by their lust for money, wealth and power. Atiku is greedy for power. Obasanjo is greedy for power (His own causes me much more pains though), Audu Ogbeh served Obj; and was booted out, when he became a spent force. So was Jerry Gana. So was Barnabas Gemade, so was Solomon Lar, so shall be Ali. If you want to be safe, stay off the fry-pan and watch from d sidelines. I see more blood and bruises ahead. God save us all, !!

U are always welcome anytime u may wish to return and savour d sweetness of Calabar; where nature and culture mix with mature political leadership to give the residents good quality living. This is no joke, Calabar is the most beautiful modern city in Nigeria. Y'all are invited!
PoliticsRe: Has Charles Taylor Escaped? by celemel(m): 6:25pm On Mar 29, 2006
For all I know, he came to calabar with an aircraft-load of the US Dollars (mint).  He also had a Beechcraft that was permanently parked at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, before he leased it out for commercial purposes.  Am told that he came with lost of diamonds too.  You must know that he was given freedom to take anything he wanted from Liberia before departing.  In fact, I have a neighbour who works for him in his several estates.  The guy says he exchanges the $ for Naira only when he wants to buy anything or shop for anything.  The summary is, he came to Calabar with Millions of Dollars, and a war-chest of exotic cars.  At least, I've seen him drive 2 different Hummer Jeeps in town here, and at the Obudu Ranch Resort.  So, OBJ might not really b part of this particular dirty money. lipsrsealed
PoliticsRe: Has Charles Taylor Escaped? by celemel(m): 6:04pm On Mar 29, 2006
shocked Charles Taylor, hiding under the pseudo-name "Henry Brown" is owing the Water Board in Calabar, a bill debt of N18, 000. 00.  He refused to pay up, after several threats and disconnection.  He has therefore left the land, with this unrecoverable debt hanging on his neck.  This is very painful, considering the fact that he denied the ordinary people of Liberia, safe drinking water; he even denied some of them the 'mouths' with which to drink.  Right here in Calabar, the Water Board supplied him with pure, clean, potable water, round-the-clock, 24/7 yet he refused to pay the bill.  That he escaped in the night, travelled thousands of kilometers by land, was put on the run and has been caught is good riddance to bad rubbish.  Other people who take delight in killing and maiming innocent people just because they hold d levers of power should learn a lesson from this.  In life, you can run but you cannot hide.  My question is, what happens to those assets including Trailers, Ships, Aircraft, Houses, Farm, Jeeps (the best of their kind) and so many other things he amassed and kept here in Calabar?   cool
EducationRe: What's The Secret To Success In JAMB? by celemel(m): 9:54am On Mar 19, 2006
I you want to pass JAMB, just register in a special center in say, Lagos or Port Harcourt. On exam day, pack your pocket with a lot of cash and get there. You'd always find one 'expo' or another. Thats the trick. The rider is, you may pass JAMB more easily than the post-jamb test. That one is the most critical if you want to be in the university. The questions are always elementary yet, a lot of the high-scoring 'jambites' don't always make the post jamb test. Pray you do well jare,

Goodluck!

Genius is d ability to do d extra-ordinary in ordinary ways. If this guy has d mtel gprs settings, let him share it or keep d peace forever. Knowledge is meaningless if not shared. The most things we find on the net here are posted by other humans like us so that we may share and learn and grow with them. Whomsoever does not want to share his 'little' knowledge or 'tiny' information with others should rather stay and brood in his bedroom than come to an open forum such as this to brag unnecessarily. Guys, ignore the guy and lets move ahead. Someone else would have the settings very very soon, (that is, if he himself has anything like it at all, or if mtel even has the service running. Who knows?)

Peace to all men of goodwill,

This is announcing formally, the 2005 christmas festival in Canaan City, Calabar.

Last year, all the great names in the music and entertainment industry were here.and this year, the season has been taken to another level. Tu Face, P - Square, Sunny Nneji, and Basket mouth, among several other Nigerian greats are billed to perform live in the UJ Esuene Stadium throughout the season. Admission as always is free. And, there will b the African Nite at the prestigeous Obudu Ranch Resort, where African Dishes and continental meals shall be served. Many african greats will also perform. The mother of them all, JOE of the "I want to know what turns you on" fame, would also be here in Calabar, with Lucky Dube (who was here same time last year) in tow. Al these for free. There is carribean-style Carnival Float on 26/12. The sweet Governor, (who is the only one in Nigeria with the Mr. subriquet) would lead the pack in all these. He will also lead his band (where he is the lead-vocalist to sing in some of the musical nites). The night of DEC. 31, (12 midnite) would see everyone at the stadium, ushering in 2006 with spectacular fireworks. Won't you rather come spend christmas in Paradise??

One moment, you are billed in fractions of kobo and the next time, the deduction is in hundreds of naira and yet again, another time there is no billing at all. They should wake up and smell the coffee. In any case, they are doing their best, especially as the market is dorminated by unserious players who shd give them a run for the money.

Emtien, your name sounds like MTN. Is it justifiable in the sight of God, if a criminal uses the proceeds of Armed Robbery to build a holy place for the worship of God (say mosque or church)? If MTN has devised a way to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians simply because it has provided employment to few of us, do you mean we should just keep quiet and let them run roughshod on us? Without any qualms? I do not want to yield to the suggestion by your detractors that you, emtien are esau's reincarnation of MTN (after all, your names both are pronounced the same way) but I beg to disagree by admonishing you to take am softly softly. MTN represents an anathema in the lives of ordinary Nigerians and we have a right to complain. And for your information, mobilizing to start a boycott does not mean "riot" as you errornously portrayed. If you are opportuned enough to have privileged access to MTN, please help us tell them that we are complaining bitterly. Here, I rest my case

It started on the since the evening of 15/11/2005. You can confirm this by logging unto the MTN gprs service, download a page and then check your credit. As soon as you start the service, your credit will start to disappear. My calculation though indicates that the charges are very minimal. I'm billed about N2.00 per minute on. Others can try and lets see how it goes.

PhonesRe: MTN GPRS on PC Using Phone Modem or Bluetooth? by celemel(op): 6:11pm On Nov 09, 2005
Yes o! yes o!! I finally got it running and i FEEL we need to share this with all.    With Nokia 6630 its simpler than anything else.  This is how:
First setup d phone to connect to gprs and be sure it works

Get the phone connected via the USB interface to your computer

Goto networking wizard on your computer (preferably one running WinXP) and follow the normal dial-up network setup routine.  Use the following config:
username: web
password:  web
select the modem (nokia USB) and deselect (disable) all other modems that may be available on the menu.
use *99# as the number to dial and bingo!
just open the network connection wizard and dial-up
You should be there just as I am there now on my desktop.

Sticking point:  The service could get real slow  but its cool especially in a rural area where there couldn;t have been d possiblility of internet penetration in the next 1, 000, 000 years.

Nairaland GeneralRe: What One Thing Would You Change About Nigeria? by celemel(m): 11:49am On Oct 19, 2005
Sorry, I would change 3 things not one. The Police, PHCN (NEPA) and The Leadership. These 3 things would inspire growth in Nigeria. First, I would move Dora Akinyuli to head the Police Force, or send a good incorruptible General down there and set a target for him to turn the Police around within a specified period of time. Then, I would revamp and decentralize power generation, and open it up for all and sundry. Finally, I would reorder the entry-qualification to becoming a leader. All persons seeking leadership would have to undergo psychological and logic tests before they are cleared to contest. That way, we could know who is greedy among them. If these three institutions are changed, every other things else would follow. I take my inspiration and example from Calabar here, where I live. * years ago, while I was a student here, nothing worked in this town. Then, I dreamt of the day I'd finish my course and get out of the town. I returned last year to see that so much has happened within so short a time. Now, I aspire to spend the rest of my life here. The government, which is practically doing everything humanly possible to give the place a face-lift has shown that in Nigeria, things can still work. We are not as bad as we sometimes tell ourselves. With proper leadership, we can be inspired to dream big and honest. This I believe.
