@TayoD
It's very funny that no one has asked Celemel where he got this information from. Give us the source of your information please, and stop making people discuss a hypothetical situation as real.
My source is a circular currently making the rounds in Calabar, Cross River State, inviting the people to Eagle Square on Nov 7, 2006 for this great show. It is signed by the SSG in blue ink, and pasted in every govt dept and parastatal in CRS. I hope that answers your questions

@ Jackelony
Ii think the initiator of this thread is either carried away by Duke's fine face or is a benefactor of the youthful governor. Otherwise, none of these serving governors should aspire to occupy a higher office except Orji Uzor kalu (just kidding).
I have been an ardent critic of successive Nigerian govts since Adam until I experienced the advent of Donald Duke in Cross River State. I have never benefitted from the patronage of any govt in Nigeria, let alone Cross River State. I schooled in The Polytechnic, Calabar and currently, am a student of the University of Calabar. I am presently in the employ of a private coy in Calabar, which is running the CRS Water Board. My coy also run the PHCN Lagos VI District for the fed govt on what we call PPP (PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP). In both of these ventures, I am not directly or remotely connected to any govt person.

My desire and love for Duke is premised on certain fundamentals which include his ability to create a civilized environment (Calabar) out of the jungle called Nigeria. What I experience in Calabar everyday is not found anywhere else in Nigeria except London and the States. It is only on Calabar where I have never seen empty satchets of the so-called pure-water on the streets. It is only in Calabar that I can drive my car from street to street without running into potholes or struggling to get out of pools of water when it rains. It is only in Calabar that I drive from street to street at night under the flush of functional street lights. It is only in Calabar where pipe-bourne water runs in my tap 24/7 with or without NEPA since 2004! It is only in Calabar where the General Hospital still smells like the hospitals of old that my father used to take me; with clean lawns, clean toilets, expert and sound doctors, intelligent and curteous nurses, available drugs and prompt services. I have travlled the length and breadth of Nigeria. I have stayed in Calabar for a long time. I have lived in Akwa Ibom State (my home state) for a long period and I can tell you, it is only in Calabar that I have peace and rest of mind, knowing that schools, hospitals, roads, water, sanitation, african culture and all the good things that humans should stand for are still respected and obtained. I am convined beyond a modicum of doubt that a man who could run and rule a miniature entity as small and wretched as Cross River State so well, would definitely have a large space in his heart, to turn around this big contraption called Nigeria.

My position is made stronger by virtue of the squandermania and wastefullness that has been the hallmark of the present govt of Obong Victor Attah in my home state considering that CRS takes in about one fifth of what Attah collects every month but the govt has done 20 times better in terms of development and govt responsibility.

This is good news to all DD crooners and geeks.  Our cool, intelligent, amiable, gentle, young, charismatic and articulate Donald Duke will formally launch his campaign to become the next President and Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Tuesday November 7, 2006 at the Eagle Square, Abuja.  All the good members of this forum who have been craving for the guy's shot at the top job are hereby alerted and informed to roll the drums.  We can do it right this time, and clean the mess everywhere.

RANDOM RABBLE ROUSER
Abacha died on June 8, 1998 in controversial circumstances that was officially adduced to heart failure. All political prisoners (including Uncle Sege and except MKO Abiola) were released from jail. Abiola was scheduled to be released in few days. Exactly 31 days after Abacha, July 9 to be precise, MKO Abiola died, after taking a hot cup of tea, officially of heart attack!! Conspiracy or coincidence? I wonder!

In the build up to the 2003 elections, Marshal Harry, AK Dikibo, Cicero Bola Ige among other influential politicians were 'killed' by 'armed robbers', who continued to reign until after April 24, 2003 elections. After that, all the 'dare-devil' armed robbers who targeted only the high and mighty ceased to exist. They vanished. Investigations into the incidents continue till date. Conspiracy or coincidence? I wonder!!

One year ago, a Bellview aircraft originating from Lagos dissapeared on a saturday night, and was found the next day in Lisa, Ogun state with over 100 persons on board dead. Few weeks after, A Sosoliso aircraft with over 100 persons on board, mostly school children, including Pastor Bimbo Odukoya, originating from Abuja to PH on a saturday evening crashed in the precincts of d PH airport killing all on board. A month ago, a military plane carrying the top brass of the armed forces on its way to Obudu ranch resort on a weekend, crashed into the hills of Benue killing all on board. Last suday, an ADC aircraft which took off from d precincts of my house in Calabar, landed and took off from Lagos safely and landed as well in Abuja where some passengers disembarked. New ones joined, including d Sultan of Sokoto. On take off, and seconds after, it exploded mid-air, and came back down, killing all but 9 persons!! Onspiracy or coincidence? I wonder!!!

Certain facts are all clear however.
Fact 1: Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki was appointed by IBB during his years in power, against the collective wishes of the majority of the members of the caliphate.

Fact 2: Dasuki was dethroned by Abacha and replaced with Maccido as a way of winning the 'hearts and minds' of the caliphate towards supporting the then tithering regime of late Gen. Sanni Abacha.

Fact 3: These two events greatly pithed one part of the caliphate against another. Curiously though, IBB is on his way back to power come 2007! Could this then be part of the coincidences? I wonder!!

I am a down-to-earth, nice guy who is easygoing, loves to laugh and

to compromise. I like to travel because it makes me think about what

an incredibly diverse and beautiful planet we live on. I'm not big on

the bar scene; it can be fun and I do it sometimes but if I'm going to

drink, generally I'd rather be at home where it's cheaper, more

comfortable and I can be laughing at a bad movie or playing some kind

of game. I love animals and have an awesome dog who is very important

to me. Music is my passion; I play guitar and always love hearing

great new bands because I know I'm missing out on some excellent

PoliticsRe: Donald Duke For 2007 Presidency? by celemel(m): 8:49pm On Sep 08, 2006
I'm starting to think that most of Mr Duke's supporters are not supporting him for the sake of better Nigeria, but only for the sake of attaining an over due objective of the southerners.

And that is totally wrong.
Big B1 you are dead wrong. I can tell you that I support Donald Duke for the greater good of Nigeria, not because I am a southerner. I as well admire General Abacha. So many of my compatroits despise him, and would even call for my head if I dare said this before them. However, am a statistician and so, my analysis tells me that Abacha was a more result-oriented head of state in Nigeria than even OBJ. And mark u, OBJ is from d south while Abacha hailed fron Kano. You base your arguements on assumptions, and since you have never visited cross river state, it would amount to imagining the impossible if I task you to just dwell your mind on the possiblility of someone, turning a slum, sluggish state such as cross river as it then was, into a hawaiian model as it now looks.

I would stop responding to this, until you decide to get your a$$ over here and see things for yourself. Anything short of this would amount to blowing hot air. If you aint authority enough on a subject, you keep quiet and let those who know speak. I feel insulted that you'd misconstrue our overwhelming support for the serene Donald Duke as a reflection of our desire to produce a President of our kind. In as much as every ethnic group has the right to aspire to the highest office in the land, I dare say that your are an ethnic jingoist. I was more comfortable with an IBB and Abacha in power, than OBJ. Both IBB and Abacha hailed from the north. It is illogical to equate the genuine desires of progressive forward-looking personalities in this forum to those sentiments that your grandfathers had perpetually used to keep Nigeria down. You must apologize for that irresponsible and crazy insinuation or shut your trap up forever.
PoliticsRe: Donald Duke For 2007 Presidency? by celemel(m): 6:48pm On Sep 07, 2006
STANECH
I live in Calabar. Lets get some lessons right.
Duke is a complete gentleman. He leads by example and has demystified power and authority. He rides around town in Okada and drives himself alone in cars most evenings without any fear of molestation coz he is at home with his people. He inspires confidence in the average Calabar man, and dreams tall dreams. Above that, he is very charismatic and has set himself apart as a model, worthy of emulation by all forward-looking, young people of his generation. He has changed the orientation of the ordinary resident in Calabar. For example, if you drink satchet water, and drop off the container on the street carelessly, an ordinary okada-man would stop, pick the waterproof pack, drive until he meets you, hand over the pack to you and advice you to go drop it in the nearest refuse bin, with a caution to you that people over here don't behave like that. I personally witnessed one incident in which the okadaman quipped someone that if he wants to dirty the environment, he should rather go to Akwa Ibom; that over here in Calabar, everyone is civilized; such behaviours are not tolerated! grin You can imagine what it means to be appreciated and loved even by the most downtrodden poorest of the poor.

Whomsoever is not convinced by all that has been said about Mr. Donald Duke should spare him/herself some time and visit cross river state. I can assure that no one ever comes to the state and goes away with a contrary opinion. I am a completely detribalized nigerian, and a citizen of the world. I'd support any candidate from anywhere, including mars, to lead nigeria insofar as he would have the capacity to move us on the right path and steer a definite progressive course for the country. For now, I see that missing capacity in Donald Duke, and even if he eventually fails to contest or win, I'd forever be inspired by his acumen, sagacity, carriage, simplicity, vision, doggedness, determination and poise. I love this man!!!!!!!!!

xkape,
You need to look at nigeria from the perspective of having interest in its future. Pontificating on how other countries have taken risk and invested in their economies would lead us nowhere. Every govt. must sometimes take decisions that wud hurt some guys like u, but who really cares? I agree, nobody can help us but 'us', and then why complain about a decision to help the economy? I suppose your logic is self-contradictry. And what in your opinion is wrong with Chavis? That he isn't allowing d all-time honored and hallowed idiosyncracies of the western-styled capitalism take root in his country sets him apart as a hero of humanism. If you hated Abacha because the press made him a monster, I don't and never did. Statistically, Abacha did more to uplift the wellbeing of more nigerians than any other past or present govt. Check the record, and forget the hoopla of the nigerian medi. Sample: The General Hospital in my state (and am sure your state is among) still uses the bed-covers PTF supplied, completely worn out as it were. OBJ killed 1000 times more people in Odi and Zaki Biam than Abacha killed in all of Nigeria. Abacha created a state for the Ijaw people in Bayelsa and put an identity on the Ijaw man. OBJ sent soldiers to Bayelsa to kill the last Ijaw man and annihilate the state. Abacha increased the price of fuel by N2.00, and set up the PTF to manage the extra funds. They made their presence felt in every nook and crany of Naija. OBJ assumed office when fuel was selling for N22. Today, we buy fuel for up to N80 a litre, yet the hospitals, schools, barracks, roads, electricity and water are in terrible states. Rape, armed robbery, assassination, hostage-taking, kidnapping, etc have come to became permanent features in our land. Who is better between these 2 evils? I leave you to ponder and supply the answer.

Finally, I want to tell you that d first nationalization has greatly improved on d participation of Nigerians in running the economy. OandO and Conoil have emerged from the ashes of behemoth multinationals to become the cynosure of all eyes within d downstream sector of the oil and gas industry in Nigeria. This would have been impossible without such a policy. In all, we need govt intervention once in a while, to get things working. It is done in every country and am sure, we need more of such, to level the field and attract other investors. The consumer gets the best product at the best price, and we all enjoy at d end, having variety to chose from. Once more, to hell with DSTV. grin
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: FG Bans DSTV From Airing English Premiership by celemel(m): 11:41am On Aug 17, 2006
Which complex is more? It seems like some of those who are unnecessarily crazy about the EPL can take any $hit to watch same. I think such persons suffer more complex than some of us who care less about the neo-colonialism that comes with modern soccer.  I love football, and all the gifted guys who display their talents, running round the leather but for God's sake, must we stomach every bunkum just because we can't live without the behemoth of the South African giants?  The govt of european countries and USA have collectively paralyzed the globalization agenda of the WTO simply because they want to protect their domestic economies by giving heavy subsidies to their farmers.  The US govt can't be pressurized to abandon this path, just because a few guys in the US feel dissatisfied with that stance.  We need protection for our economy.  DSTV, MTN, Shell, Exxon, Agip and such other multinationals are nothing more than modern-day colonialists.  The govt must come up with policies that wud force them to play by the rules same as they force people to play in their home countries.  Its no lie that they operate in our very inclement environment but for God's sake, they must not close out the space and stampede other players out of biz just because they are powerful and wealthy.   This decision must stay and lets see if the heavens would fall.

Not the least why I adore Hugo Chavis, for nationalizing the oil coys in his country and calling the bluff of the US and EU countries.  Nigeria must nationalize these giants and force them to reflect local content.  This wud create jobs and transfer the power of decision making and resource control to we Nigerians.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: FG Bans DSTV From Airing English Premiership by celemel(m): 11:32pm On Aug 15, 2006
our obsession about EPL is fascinating, to say the least. Some of us are ready to take any $hit just because Frank Nweke has suddenly woken up from slumber to realize that DSTV is a typical SA coy, out to milk as much money as possible from hapless Nigerians. Truth is, monopoly strangulates a free-market economy and creates artificial scarcity. N900.00/month for DSTV is completely crazy and outrageous. Let the ban stay; Nigerians' would be the better for it in the long tun.

One man's meat is another man's meatpie. I've seen people eat snakes, cockroaches, lizards, (yes lizards), goats, monkeys, baboons, cows (all of us do) and human beings (in Somalia). Its called "create your style". We can't all condemn those who eat 404 (tht's the generic name for dog-meat) If we do, then we'd be running foul of the law of natural selection and diversity. In the food-chain, producers supply food to primary cosumers, who then supply food to secondary consumers. Dogs cannot be exception.

But people, watch out! Lest you eat a 'mad-dog' one of thiese days and start to behave like General Sanni Abacha. Or is it OBJ? shocked
FamilyRe: Are Men Really Scarce Or Rare For Marriage? by celemel(m): 4:22pm On Jul 23, 2006
There is scarcity of 'good' women. Am a guy, with several years of 'post-qualification experience in bachelorhood'. Every woman wants a 'ready-made' husband. No one gives thought to d fact that the 'ready-made' husbands were 'made' by someone out there, who was fore-sighted enough to look beyond the present, when the going was rough, and the 'making' was in progress. If I had my life to live again as a girl, I'd pick and chose a smart guy from my university, and grow together with him, irrespective of his level of solvency; insofar as he is brilliant and good at what he's pursuing. Thats the way to go.

Today's woman needs a guy with a limo; who can bankroll the grandest wedding ceremony, pay for a slot on NTA newsline for the video-clips of the event, shuttle between the best hotels in town with her, live in opulence and style from day one, etc. Such men, unfortunately are scarce and difficult to put down as husband. Rather than treat u like a wife, he'll just see u as one of his investments (like a pet in the house) who should b seen but not heard.

Well girls, take heart. Am a good guy and am still available. cheesy cheesy cheesy

Facts: No roads in Port Harcourt. Collects an ave of N8bn monthly yet, nothing to show for it. His only major preoccupation is disbursing raw cash to all manners of groups who go bootlicking his a$$. Rivers State remains the same underdeveloped territory just as it was, 10 yrs ago.

4. Donald Duke.

It may sound like absolute tautology, but he has been governor and has broken the toga of power that revolves around the office, making it look simple and easy. Above all, he has used the people's money to better the lot of the people (of course, the people is what govt is all about), and also understands the rubrics of public administration and the civil service, having been commissioner for finance and then, governor for 8 yrs. It takes experience to lead a country as complex as Nigeria.

In Africa (where I suppose u both come from) it is a taboo to integrate the family of anyone u have a dispute with, into that dispute, to the extent of calling names and pouring invectives.  We all belong to different religious persuasions.  For me, I know that  if I respect my elders, I'll live long (my Bible tells me so) and I wish y'all wud live long with me by refraining from abusing people's parents (who are our elders as well)  The string of posts by all the warring parties in this dispute do not speak well of anyone of u at all.  You guys must learn to tolerate alternative viewpoints and absorb them, even when u may not be in agreement.  Lets not imbibe d western kind of life to the extent of 4getting the core traditional african values of respect, tolerance and brotherhood.  They are important in shaping our collective image in the world space.
