Crime / Re: Police Boss In Custody For Murder by celemel(m): 12:21am On Dec 07, 2010
I witnessed the crises first hand on sunday.  I feel hurt that the police snuffed life out of that guy.  It is condemnable, barbaric and callous.  In the same vein, this incident raises fundamental questions.  Why did the guy refuse to stop when he was told to?  Which DPO would drive in a convoy at 3 am? Inasmuch as we all condemn the police for always being too trigger happy, we should as well recognize that at 3 am, with a car fleeing from lawful police stop-and-search, anything could happen!  He was chased all the way from Fadeyi Bus stop to Onipanu.  He wasn't going to the police station, or stopping at all.  He simply took a detour from the highway into the service lane, and branched off into the street by Onipanu Police Station, heading to his house.  Unfortunately, the police who were chasing him caught up with him while trying to negotiate the corner.  In a very terrible twist, the DPO who lead the chase (from another police station) fatally shot him dead.  That is how far the story is.

We know how poorly trained, ill-educated, ill-motivated, brutal, foolish, trigger-happy, wanton and bloodthirsty our police service in Nigeria is, yet some of us behave sometimes as if we have spare lives at home.  Now, the innocent dependednts of that Yahoo guy, with the wife who put to bed 2 months ago are now left to carry the cross and mourn this completely avoidable disaster.  I weep for the innocent mother and family much more than I weep for the Yahoo man!

@suniblu
Your assertion is not correct. Make calls and check the rate. You can do the maths yourself. It is only the first minute of call in a day. Not every minute. I did my maths. Oya, do yours.

I really don't know why you closed the earlier thread I openned on this subject. In any case, I hope you are fine. In the new tariff, you are billed 60k/second for the first minute of your first call in a day. Every other call for that day is billed at 20k/second. The 60k/s call is once a day only. goto www.ng.airtel.com for details, FAQs and support.

I have issues with @Honsolu who locked d earlier thread I started on this. I did provide as much info as possible on that other thread before almighty Honsolue locked it. If you check www.ng.airtel.com, every info on this promo is available. The 60k/second is billed only on the first minute of your first call of the day. Subsequent calls are billed 20k/second all day till the next day. It means u pay 36 naira for just one minute a day. The rest calls are 12 naira/minute all day.

It is true. I've just migrated. You are billed 60kobo/second in the first minute of the first call in a day. Every other calls are billed 20k/sec flat. Check it out here:

Airtel Crashes Tariff
12.01.2010

Nigeria’s telecoms giant and the fifth largest mobile telecoms operator in the world, Airtel, has announced a new promotional offer on all calls after the first minute of the day at 20 kobo per second.
This, according to a statement, would apply to all calls (on net and off net) for all local destinations and to the United States of America.

The new package, known as the 2Good offer, gives Airtel customers ‘freedom’ to make calls at just 20 kobo per second after the first minute in the day. “For the first minute, the customer pays 60 kobo per second and enjoys the benefits for all his calls in the rest of the day.
“The customer enjoys the freedom to make calls at this rate to any network in the country. 2Good also brings this same ‘freedom’ to make calls at the same 60 kobo per second for the first minute in the day and 20 kobo per second thereafter to all his family and friends in the US,” the statement said.

Managing Director/CEO, Airtel Nigeria, Rajan Swaroop, was quoted as saying: “We launched the Airtel brand last month with the promise to deliver innovative, affordable and relevant solutions to ‘bring freedom’ to our customers. Our 2Good promotion demonstrates our commitment to live up to that promise.”
According to him, the new tariff offer from Airtel clearly lives up to the expectations of Nigerians and the challenge laid down recently by President Goodluck Jonathan, at the inauguration of the Airtel brand in Abuja, where he urged the company to make telecoms services more affordable for consumers.

In addition, 2Good offers 20 free on net SMSes to every customer with only N100 recharge every month. Airtel customers just need to send *446# to experience 2Good for 30days.
“At Airtel, we are driven by our vision to be the most loved brand in daily lives of Nigerians. 2Good offers Freedom to our customers to make more calls to their loved ones. This is the first of the range of our exciting products, with superior network and service, which would redefine ‘Freedom’ to mobile communications for Nigeria” said Swaroop.

To migrate, dial *446# The first minute you call in a day would be billed at 60k/second. Every other call terminates at 20k/second to all networks and the USA. This sounds good. I hope they have capacity to take the influx. Feel Free, abi? grin
Politics / Re: Tunde Bakare: We Were Not Bribed (It Was Transport Money) by celemel(m): 12:18pm On Dec 01, 2010
How can the President of the Republic offer bribe of just $50,000 to a group of eminent men such as the SNG?  $50,000?  That is too cheap for a bride.  Even Ibori offered $15,000,000 to Nuhu Ribadu only! And he was just a Governor, looking for freedom from prosecution.  It doesn't add up tha GEJ, controlling at least $160,000,000/daily proceeds from the sale of at least 2000000 barrels of crude oil would offer a paltry $50,000 to a group as powerful as the SNG as bribe, for support to become the President of Nigeria.  Haba people!  It is nothing more than crying wolf where there is none!
Phones / Re: Omaphones Is It Genuine? by celemel(m): 6:22pm On Nov 29, 2010
Omafones is genuine. I got my HTC Desire for me and my defunct wifey from them. They delivered one in Abuja and one in Calabar at no extra cost. When one of them had a problem (it was locked to 3 mobile - UK), they retirieved it at no cost to me at all and replaced with a brand new one. I commedn them to anybody wishing to buy Genuine. Their prices are howvere a little over the top because they buy from UK only. But they are damn reliable.

I'm shocked, my fiancee was discussing me online. It means a lot of people on NL are quite good advisers. I'm the person this woman has brought to this market place! I wrote all those emails and I'm shocked, she has published them! In any case, I won't join issues with her. I have today decided to move on with my life. I guess I was so foolish as not to knw when to draw the line. I've left her for her Pastor who controls her life and Mr. Honourable. I have enough dirt to end that so-called Honourabl'e career and if both of them push their luck too far, I may descend from my olympian hieght to fight a very very messy war with them. The pain has been excruciating but I guess, I'm coming over it now. I never planned it would end this way - not in the market place like this. I wish she can come here again so I engage her in some "war-of-words". She has lost me, and that is final! Moving on is difficult but I have to go,

I posted on this thread before but it seems, the administrator had other ideas, or was uncomfortable with my contributions. In any case, I hope this one stays. I use the Desire. It's a very fine piece of wonder. Before then, I used Nokia all my life. I must say, I enjoy my Desire thoroughly. I'm not however impressed with the android open-endedness. I'm still dreaming of that day when Nokia shall combine the robustness of their hardware to the simplicity of the OS, iphone or android-styled. That would ne the bomb. For peeps who had issues with battery, I'd advice you go for the JuiceDefender app, instead of Advanced Task Killer. ATK consumes more batter that it is designed to to conserve. The defender on the other hand, runs and demobilizes tasks especially, when the phone is idle.

@Beaf:
Do you understand the word CHARISMA and the role it plays in leadership? If yes, then juxtapose that with GEJ. Nobody says he should be a dictator. No! Rather, he is not charismatic and that is the reason he is perceived as "weak". You can see, GEJ is clueless about many things because people don't seem to see him as being "in charge". We call it "authority" in governance. He looks as lame-duck as Ernest Shonekan was during the ING era. Pretend as we may, you and I know that nobody is in charge of the apparati of governance in the country now. That is the crux of the matter !
Romance / Re: Does Love Exist Over The Net? by celemel(m): 5:29pm On Nov 10, 2010
Call it any name: love, e-love, whatever. Love is universal and exists everywhere. If you close your mind to all the possibilities of this world then you are deliberately limiting all you can achieve. So many people have found their happiness in weird places: school, church, club, brothel, cinema, nairaland, Facebook, sex.com, etc. I once had a very deep and intimate relationship with a friend online. It lasted for many years and would have ended in marriage but not for the Commonwealth sanctions during the Abacha era that made our exchange of visits impossible and subsequently made her go settle with someone nearer after exhausting her patience. If you think its not possible then it won't be. If you are a PHBien, then impossible doesn't exist. You only need to use your head wisely and pray for the gift of the discerning spirit to be able to separate the chaff from the grains. The chaff are truly plenty online. Among them though, are hidden the fine, nice good grains.
Politics / Re: SSS, Others Intercept Rocket Launchers, Bombs In Lagos by celemel(m): 5:04pm On Oct 27, 2010
I don't believe the story. The SSS has a woeful reputation for crying wolf where there's none. Last year, we were sensationally fed with phantom pictures of a seized aircraft at Kano airport loaded with ammunition that later turned out a fiasco. Nigeria had to tender an apology for d embarrassing manner a genuine state-to-state arms purchase and freight was handled by incompetent operatives who lacked capacity to be more circumspect. The latest one I dare say, would end that way and our journalists always don't follow up to ask the right questions and 'keep them honest'. No arms smuggler can be so stupid as to channel such high caliber ammunition through Apapa when our entire coastline from Lagos to Calabar is fallow, ready and unpoliced. This is a sure goof. Watch out!

How many Jomo Gbomos do we have? There seems to be too many of them. In SA, the prosecutor said Henry Orkah issue is Jomo Gbomo. Then Charles Orkah was arrested in Lagos and accused of sending email as Jomo Gbomo. While they both are in detention, another email warning sentry Jomo Gbomo appeared. It seems there's a drop of Jomo Gbomo in every man.
Politics / Dubai Court Rules That James Ibori Be Extradited To Uk by celemel(m): 7:01pm On Oct 17, 2010
By SaharaReporters , New York

A Dubai court of First Instance today
ruled that the former governor of Delta
state , James Ibori , has case to answer in
the UK .
The court therefore ruled that Ibori be
extradited to the United Kingdom to
face charges of money laundering ,
credit card fraud and official theft . UK
authorities have successfully prosecuted
Ibori’ s sister , Christine Ibie- Ibori , and
his mistress , Udoamaka Okoronkwo
(nee Onuigbo) on those charges. Both
women are serving jail terms in a UK
prison .
Ibori' s wife , Theresa Nkoyo, and one of
his UK- based lawyers, Bhadresh Gohil
are also currently facing trial in a
London courtroom . A legal analyst
familiar with the evidence against them
told Saharareporters that they are likely
to be convicted and sentenced to jail
terms as well .
A source close to Ibori told
Saharareporters that the former
governor was distraught by the verdict
as some of his friends in Dubai had
promised him that they could reach the
judge and get him a favorable ruling . “I
can assure you that Chief Ibori will ask
his lawyers to file an appeal before the
appellate court in the UAE , ” said the
source.
Mr . Ibori has 30 days to file for and
receive an appellate decision .
Ibori’ s associates in Nigeria had been
preparing for a victorious outcome for
him. In fact, several sources close to
him revealed that he had ordered the
renovation of his country home in
Oghara , Delta State , for what he
envisaged as a triumphant return .
Instead , as one UK prosecutor told
Saharareporters this morning , “the day
of reckoning for this fugitive in a UK
court is near at hand .”
Last week, Turai Yar’ adua, the wife of
former Nigerian ruler Umaru Yar’ adua
reportedly visited Mr . Ibori in Dubai.
Former Governor Ibori was a close
associate and confidante of Mr .
Yar’ adua who died last May . One source
said Turai Yar’ adua’ s visit to Ibori was to
express her gratitude for all Ibori did to
sustain her late husband in power. Mrs.
Yar’ adua had earlier traveled to Saudi
Arabia to mark the end of her mourning
period and to perform the lesser hajj -
(Umrah ), according to a source close to
her .
Saharareporters has learned that Mrs .
Yar’ adua, who is suffering from an
ovarian disorder , will spend some time
in the UK to receive more diagnosis and
medical attention for her health
condition .

I happen to have some info regarding that area of Abia coz my sis marries there. The people were overrun and conquered by hoodlums and kidnappers long long time ago. It was so bad that no one dared report any matter to the police lest, you end up dead the next moment. They infiltrated the police rank and file. No one challenged them. The police in Abia was completely in their tank. So, if the Rev. Fr. had to survive, then he definitely needed to serve them his token which in this instance is water. It's that bad. No doubt, worse stories would come out of that land. It's more corrupt and corrupting than Soddom and Gomorrah.

So you guys didn't see the teleprompters, huh? There were 2 of them in front. His minders did a bad job of not training him properly on the required skills and doing proper rehearsals before the d-day. He was all along, struggling to read from the equipment until it became embarrassing so, he called for the scripts. It's a good start to see that viewers were even fooled into believing that he was reading from his heart. If you observed, there was never a time when the camera panned out, to show him alongside the audience at the lawn. That would have exposed the prompters to the viewers. He used the same prompters at the Eagle Square during his declaration. In that instance, the cameras exposed them many times. On a personal level, GEJ lost my vote on 1st october coz of his very poor reading skills.

Its now I understand why Hitler started world war II. My brothers in Abia have been seriously polluted by their crass bestial knack for filthy wealth. Aba seems to be off limits. I've lost two of my friends to the bullets of the buccaneers in Aba in the last three months. Aba is an open sore on the conscience of a deranged nation. If only we had a government; if only we had a country; if only our lives mean anything to us. Something drastic MUST happen in Abia.
