I want a better Nigeria but I don't trust the faces I see in APC but I may be wrong. And I hope I am

Abeg! Was Tinubu, Buhari, Oyegun, fashola, Fayemi etc the core of acn and cpc/anpp that merged, were they ever in pdp? Nobody can do worse than Jonathan who has been a historic failure for the pdp and country.

God forbid bad thing. Lagos is likely to get special status as a former capital city and the release of money owed for spending on supposed federal projects, as well as permission for the Lekki international airport. So much more coming. Lagos has changed from an opposition hq to the pulse of the Federal Government. Ambode is a safe pair of hands to continue the works of his predecessors.

@ the bolded, its just unfortunate, just like how the incompetent GEJ rose to be president, so we saw ourselves having those woofers. the failed leaders keep promoting criminals and rewarding them with so much money and power. typical example is my community, we have wrong leaders, touts everywhere, uneducated youths as quarter chairmen, uneducated and corrupt persons as community leaders. just so unfortunate.
My brother, your voice has to be heard one way or another. These opportunists rely on the silence of the majority to give the impression of consent. It is shameful that GEJ and all these touts have persuaded the nation that you are a certain way. My support of Buhari is indeed further fuelled by the gross misbehavior of these people. Even a Fulani man knows that he cannot threaten the corporate existence of Nigeria with someone like Buhari in office. The fact that Jonathan can be holding meetings with the likes of Ganiu Adams of the opc just disgusts me. Our leader must send the right message with their conduct, in and out of office. This is another reason why we have turned to Buhari again. How has the increased funding from derivation been utilised, does anyone ask? With oil revenues at a peak under Jonathan what was achieved? We all need responsible people to represent us and we need to hold them accountable.

owobokiri:
You obviously lack not just the intellect for strategic planning, but also the patiece. If you are such a fan of Tinubus APC, you may need to ask yourself some basic questions; where were Tinubu and his APC in the past 4 years? Did Tinubu take up the speakership when it was zoned to the SW last time? Does the PDP as it is not provide for the SE, a much better, broader platform for an alliance with either the middle belt or the north? You talked about Ojukwus "handshake across te Niger", but you never told us of the response from the other side of the Niger. . You are just angry and I dont know why you have to inform me you are igbo. Anybody here can claim so. . To say that igbos were wrong for sticking with a ruling party instead of joining a loose opposition unsure of victory doesn't make sense.
Surely you are a joker. The ACN as it was then, combined with rebel pdp to make Tambuwal speaker, so in a sense they were demonstrating real political power in the house. Tinubu could not take up the Speakers role because the pdp had a majority in the house and the person they wanted while being yoruba, was obviously not an ACN member or part of the real mainstream of yoruba politics. Like Koro, the person would have been used to destabilise the opposition and Tinubu fought and won that battle. Tinubu and his associates have endured and prevailed. It was logical that Tinubu and Buhari got into alliance because there is no similar force in the East to talk to. It is an alliance of mutual respect, because they both bring something useful to the table. Now they have the president and Senate and so much more is coming.

Maser:
Another senseless write-up! I'm more Igbo than you but your inability to still see the mistakes of our people, having been blinded by hate and ethnicity makes me want to puke. You called the coalition APC a gang-up? When Ngige & Okorocha were screaming that you people embrace APC which would be the next big thing, Peter Obi was telling you that it was Yoruba and Boko Haram party, playing on your hate, tribalism and ignorance to give his APGA an edge, a party which funny enough he even eventually dumped. It was all for his selfish political gains. When it didn't suit him he jumped ship to PDP and ran to GEJ in Abuja for his own share of the proverbial national cake. Ndigbo ntorr nu! Malu nu ife. In my personal capacity, I tried to convince many ndigbo to go for APC but they felt I was stupid. What has PDP done for you since 99.
Though Ojukwu fought the war, he constantly spoke about 'a handshake across the Niger'. Igbos can't stand alone! You need to drop hate and love other Nigerians
My brother, thank you for saying this. What I don't understand is why there is so much bile against other Nigerians that seems to emanate from the east. Right now, I know many of my Northern friends are angry with all the names they have been called, with the propagation of the idea that they are illiterate and 'cows', and even some yoruba (gambari slave etc). How can Ndigbo hope to build cross-cultural ties when all this material is floating around the Internet etc. Or is it that they think these words don't have any impact? The real impact is a continued distrust and the the erosion of Ndigbo influence in Nigeria. Yoruba people have decided to sit and talk with the north like adults. They have worked out an alliance based on mutual respect and it has yielded fruit. Who exactly would the north or west have talked to in the East that could claim to represent the generality of Ndigbo opinion? Even the bible says deep calls unto deep...
I'm neither hausa yoruba or igbo, but the way I see the flow of invectives pains me and makes me wary. Perhaps I could be the next target? No other people in lagos claimed they were being denied pvc on a tribal basis. And yet we have every tribe of Nigeria in lagos, even a strong Ijaw presence? As for the massob/biafra discussion, I'm sorry but the vast majority of Nigerians accept that we are bound together and will only want to discuss our relations within the Nigerian structure. I am Nigerian 100% and reject any threat to our corporate existence in toto! Some will say whatever the situation Ndigbo will thrive on commerce, but we must all be patriotic and good citizens too, and that means we must be civil to one another, we must accept that we are all God's creation whatever our tribe tongue or location or cultural practices. How can a region that's boasts of its Christianity be so full of prejudice?
Anyway now APGA has sold its federal presence to pdp, and hopes for some scraps at regional level but what exactly does APGA stand for? What influence does it really have, especially since their adopted 'son' was president for 5yrs, what has been the dividend of such loyalty? Has Jonathan actually been a worthy investment? Even Ikembas personal assistant would probably have a better education, and presence than this Jonathan. Without his job would Jonathan ever have done something to attract public attention? Is he the vision of an Ndigbo hero? Can he even make a speech that will move a crowd? All these deficiencies of Jonathan, the rest of the country is asking, why can't Ndigbo see them.

MKO also played a role too for our democracy but I think a lot of Nigerians under appreciate the role of Abdulsalam. He was the one who signed the current constitution and help transition process from military to civilian. He could have stayed in power for as long as he wanted if he wanted to and there would be nothing you and me could do about it. I have a lot of respect for him and he act like an elder state man unlike IBB and OBJ.
Understand this, the country was tense and very angry at the suspicious death of abiola and the military had become a hated institution because of the repression and economic slump. Abdulsalam was under intense pressure by parts of Nigeria and the international community rallied by nadeco. Why must we be over grateful, when we let him leave with hundreds of millions of dollars and an oil block? Please stop enjoying living on your knees and stand up. Many lives were lost fighting Abacha and they are the ones to be appreciated, not a man who fed fat on us and ran off. It is enough that we didn't come after him for looting the country, now we must call him a hero too? And exactly the same applies to Jonathan, for peaces sake we will grimace and let him go but he too has robbed us blind. That he doesn't go to jail is enough for him. Hero, that he certainly is not. A weaker, drunker, more ridiculous government, we have never ever had, and you want us to say thank you for that?

General Abdulsalami Abubakar is the father of democracy in Nigeria. He was the one who broker the peace accord signed by both GEJ and GMB. He also was not selfish by holding on to power but rather conducting an election and handling over from military to civilian. He would have still been in power till today if he wanted and nobody would have done anything about it. I really respect him and he is underappreciated by most Nigerians. He is the "mandela" of Nigeria
The sacrifice and death of Chief MKO Abiola made this democracy possible. He is the foundation, not Abdulsalam or Jonathan or all the leeches who never fought at the time against the wicked Abacha regime.

This is simply self-serving bs to make yourself feel better. I am in a hurry to forget Goodluck. He cannot even be compared to minor Nigerian activists. His legacy is a culture of corruption, friends among thieves and ex-convicts and bandits, making his girlfriend oil minister, and a tendency towards alcoholism. Good riddance. Even Niger Delta people need to ask their leaders what has been achieved over the last 5-16 years. Was there even a plan for the nd development? PoliticsRe: How The Igbos Worked For Buhari's Victory -shettima by Change2015(m): 1:35pm On Apr 02, 2015
EUROBOMBER:
Let me start by saying congratulations to Muhammadu Buhari for winning the presidential election and emerging as Nigeria’s president-elect. I have come to realise that Buhari’s victory is the will of God for Nigeria and so, I have come to accept him as my president.

I also want to congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan for being mature enough to accept defeat and concede the election. This man remains one of the greatest Nigerian presidents because he could have decided to set Nigeria on fire but chose the honourable path.

I want to also recognise all my fellow PDP e-warriors that stood beside the President. Thank you for your resilience and unflinching support all through the struggle. Also to recognise all the APC e-warriors who fought bravely in support of their party despite all odds and won the battle.

MY MESSAGE FOR BUHARI

Now that you have become the President, I want to let you know that the change Nigerians really need is not the change of personalities or political party, Nigerians are just tired of the way things have been going in this country. Nigerians are suffering; we struggle to provide basic needs that ordinarily the Government should provide. Thieves continue to steal and get richer while the majority of Nigerians are languishing in poverty. This is the reason why Nigerians have decided to give you a chance; the people believe that God can use you to turn things around in this country that is why you were voted for last Saturday.

(1) Fight corruption to a complete halt in this country especially in the petroleum sector. Sanitize the NNPC, ensure transparency and accountability. Nigerians all over should be able to benefit from our God-given resources. A few cannot continue to hold this country to ransom and steal at will.

(2) Provide stable and reliable power supply for Nigerians. This will enable SME’s to thrive and encourage investors to flock massively into the country. The cost of doing business in this country is crazy because of high energy costs. We must do away with generators in this country for good Mr President.

(3) Please diversify our economy. We cannot continue to depend heavily on oil in Nigeria. Sit down and take a good look at the six geopolitical zones in this country and find a way of harnessing all economic potentials for the good of all Nigerians. Our economy must be less dependent on crude oil.

(4) Deal ruthlessly with corrupt persons who believe that they can continue to steal and do business as usual. This is a democracy but Mr President, you are the C-in-C and you have enormous powers at your disposal, please use them! Don’t be like Jonathan who allowed his Government to be hijacked by criminals who looted the nation dry while Nigerians cried.

(5) Finally, Buhari could be the man that God could use to finally cement Nigeria’s bond of unity by handing over to an Igbo-Nigerian president after his tenure in office whether 4 or 8yrs. Like the Elder statesman Yakubu Gowon said, electing an Igbo president would heal the old wounds of the civil war. Buhari’s name will be written in gold both in the hearts of the Igbos if he can be the instrument to achieving Igbo presidency in this country. If Buhari, being a Fulani from the North can transfer presidential power to the Igbos after him then he will be like the hinge holding Nigeria together.

A WORD FOR THE SE

I want to thank my geopolitical zone the SE for standing with Jonathan till the end. Yes, he lost the election but we have made a bold statement that we can stand with you till death when we give you our word. There was immense pressure to abandon the minority Ijaw man and join the majority but we refused and stood with the minority till the very end. We must however join hands with the new president to move this great nation forward. Personally, I have concluded that Nigeria has come to stay since we have survived this 2015 presidential election. Let us also build good bridges with other geopolitical zones so that we can produce Nigeria’s president after Buhari. No zone can produce the president alone in this country; you need the support of at least four zones to produce the president!

Let us also eschew bitterness and drop all these talk about Biafra; we are Nigerians and we have everything to gain in this country if we can play our game well.

A WORD FOR THE NIGER DELTA

Thank God we can now say that Nigeria has produced a president for the first time from the minority in the person of Goodluck Jonathan who is about to leave office. I can understand the pain/anger because of the outcome of this election but the truth is that what has happened is the will of God for Nigeria; I see the finger of God in all these. This is Buhari’s time to rule this country; he is a man of destiny. He has come just at the right time to save this country from gliding into abyss.

Stop calling the Yorubas traitors and all that. Remember that the Yorubas overwhelmingly voted for your son in 2011 and rejected this same buhari. Check the figures and see that buhari was soundly rejected by the Yorubas in 2011. All Nigerians believed that Jonathyan would be a Messiah that would come and turn things around in this country; this was a man who had no shoes to go to school, who was from a poor background. Nigerians voted massively for him only to be so disappointed that he has not been able to make their lives better. Things are much more difficult for Nigerians now than when Jonathan took over. This is the reason why the Yourubas have rejected Jonathan this time. It is not out of hatred or gang-up but because he has not performed well! Same story about most of the MB and that is why Jonathan lost the MB. Nigerians never had it this bad, state Governors are owing salaries for months, people are hungry, unable to pay school fees and unable to meet their basic human needs.

How foolish can a Government be? Imagine someone that wants to come for a second term and civil servants were not paid their December salaries to celebrate Christmas! This is just unbelievable! It was in December last year that I began to question this Government in my mind but I still continued my relentless support on Nairaland for Jonathan. I saw my relatives who were Civil Servants going hungry during the Christmas celebrations, some could not even purchase new clothes for their kid, how painful!

As for me, I will do my very best in my own little capacity to support Buhari in changing this country for good. If things should continue the way they were going under Jonathan I wonder what the future of our children would be to be honest. It is God that has pushed out Jonathan not Nigerians because of all the prayers and crying that has gone up to him.

Let me also use this medium to appeal to all reasonable Yorubas on Nairaland to prevail on their people to stop opening funny threads about Igbo this Igbo that just because Jonathan lost. The APC people should stop opening threads to tell other Nigerians ‘Ntorrr’, we should move away from such pettiness and mediocrity.

A WORD TO THE CORE NORTH

And to the core North, let this election be a lesson and a reference point. A southerner sitting as president presided over his own defeat, accepted the results and went ahead to congratulate the winner from the north. In 2011 when Jonathan defeated Buhari, he refused to concede defeat but shouted that the election was rigged when we all know that he was defeated by Jonathan then. Nobody is burning tyres on the road in the South, nobody is burning Mosques, nobody is burning houses/cars and nobody is going about killing Northerners. Should the Northerners lose elections in future we expect them to accept the results and not disturb the peace. Jonathan has set a very good precedent not only for Nigeria but Africa.
While your sentiments are salutary there is a contradiction right there. You describe the Nigerian situation as bad, corruption blossoming, many major issues and yet you still say you are proud to have stood with the man under whom all these things blossomed? You are proud to say you voted against a person of undoubtedly better personal character and morality, a person with better management skills and a forthright leader? My question is WHY? What explains this kind of behaviour? What is the perceived benefit of this kind of behaviour? I am really struggling to understand why people would act in this way and I hope you can enlighten me.

The party has been on its toes and we have presented a well packaged image and message that caught fire in the public imagination. In short, he has made the APC look more responsible than the ruling party.

Also Lai Mohammed, our able media manager, who must have lost his voice by now. There are many others who quietly encouraged, contributed, leaked pdp plans, and then we must thank the Nigerian public for employing the best man in the field of presidential candidates. We have four years to make a solid impression on the people's lives. God bless our country.

Last night Jonathan knew he had lost and there was a vote padding exercise to help him catch up. Even his play on religion failed in the north central zone. The violence and protests and rigging in Rivers State, Enugu and akwa ibom show he will ignore the voice of those he claims to hold dear. Sorry to say but if the pdp had succeeded in getting Jega to drop the card reader (after it was approved, budgeted, appropriated and spent), the pdp would have successfully stolen the election. These are not the actions of an honourable man. If he had called to concede at 11am it would have been significant, but to call hours after all the mathematics in the world suggest you have failed... Well, what was the point? The press already knew he was done.

All the same, I'm sure he is relieved to be a free man again. For that the nation celebrates. In less than 2 weeks, we will mark the first anniversary of the Chibok girls mass kidnapping. History will be harsh on him, and he will regret not keeping to his one term promise. How sad for him.

A big congrats to all of us!!!
Congratulations are in order but let us remember that in two weeks, we have another set of elections coming. The number of voided votes shows we need to educate our people more on how to fold their ballot papers.

We must also insist on a government full of performers. Ministers should be made to face the press/public every 2/3 weeks for an open questions and answers session. We must put pressure on elected officials to let them know we are still watching them. Same with local governments. Buhari will set a good tone for the government but we must play our part too. Even now we need to start discussion on a draft whistle-blower bill. Our country needs our attention if it is to improve.

But truly I am deeply satisfied with our victory, and once again look forward with hope and expectation. We had the last laugh.

This election victory would have seen barcanista get picked by APC, the real APC, to be an analyst for the party. Just so sad that the political jobber job never saw the future. A few dollar crumbs blinded him from seeing the big picture.
Not likely. Political relevance is determined by principles and perseverance over time. I trust the APC is looking to avoid unnecessary ego wars, and an over emphasis on tribe or religion. Imagine the people that have stood by Buhari, Tinubu and Atiku for the last 16yrs... You earn trust by being consistent and faithful over time. He didn't understand that. I wish him well though.

My dear, stop hitting a man who's already down. This is the period to close ranks and build together. Nigeria is so messed up at the moment and we need all the efforts we can garner.
It is not about Jonathan personally but about people who have power and abuse it, people who see need and ignore it, people who worship position without striving to be considered worthy of it. Nigerians need to learn these things. We have elected Buhari not because of his fine face or tribe or faith, but because we are now sickened by government corruption and inaction in too many areas. We have elected him because he gives us reason to hope for better days for our country. He inspires us, by personal example and speech. All this Jonathan failed to do. He may be down, but that was all his own fault, not ours. We will forget him soon.

Jonathan had an opportunity to be classy this morning, by conceding. But he has blown it. Now we have seen Orubebe make an ass of himself on national TV, and we know the level of indecency that prevails around the president. He did not ensure one man one vote. The violence in Rivers, the fraud in Akwa Ibom and delta, shows a man who is willing to ride roughshod over his own regions opinions. The pdp opposed card readers once they knew the impact it would have and the true nature of the President's unpopularity. Can we so soon forget the hateful and divisive campaign the pdp ran? Insults to different regions and the attempt to paint the APC as an Islamic sharia party, or the use of all the security services to attempt to thwart the will of the people? Do you think Marilyn Ogar will sleep well tonight. Or Dasuki?
There will be an inquest into this corruption of state institutions by the pdp and a price will be paid. Truly there are many things we will say #neveragain to. Nigerians and politicians especially have to learn that actions have consequences, so they elevate their standards of behaviour. Jonathan is the first one to learn something. Many others will follow. Nigeria will remain peaceful and United because the people have spoken and know they are being heard. It is not bitterness or vengeful behaviour, we need to learn to conduct ourselves better and be respectful of each other irrespective of tribe tongue or faith, or lack thereof!
