The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital chapter has embarked on an indefinite strike which started at 12 midnight on Saturday 7th January, 2017. Part of their grievances against the Chief Medical Director was his payment of Skipping to doctors, non-payment of salaries of their members who are on locum and contract appointment, as they believe that the money meant for such was used to pay skipping to the doctors, and also non promotion of their members. Although this has affected most units from functioning optimally, other units like the clinics, out-patient departments, some laboratory units will still be working as the doctors have taken up the challenge to see that patients don't suffer so much. It is hoped that this will be resolved as soon as possible so that normalcy will return to the hospital and the health sector at large.

remi144:That swelling following scratching or when hit by an object may just be a normal response of our body to trauma.... What we call it is inflammation...I.e. you will first feel some pain(may be slight), then the place will change colour to red (may or may not be obvious depending on your skin colour), then swelling, then the place may feel warmer than usual and finally you may be forced to rest the place for a while as you cannot use that part of your body for the time being. This will usually subside after a while as you can testify. The persistent dry cough can be due to many things. I'm sure you don't smoke, but if you do try and quit. There is also what we call post-nasal drip which means trickling of mucus produced by our nose down the larynx/trachea (wind pipe) which irritates the airway thereby provoking cough. Those drugs you took are very effective but since the symptom persists, try steam inhalation, it works like magic too. Another cause of the dry cough could be asthma, but because you never complainedof noisy breathing (wheezing), tightness of chest or difficulty in breathing(breathlessness), it is not likely to be asthma. But to avoid all doubt, see a doctor to check you. Yet another possibility is what we call chronic bronchitis (don't mind the terminology). It simply means persistent irritation of your airway due to some things in your surroundings like dust, smoke, perfume, air or industrial pollution(thinking of your work place), etc, the cause may be unknown. To start with, if your room(s) have rugs, then think of changing then and replacing them with carpets or better still, tiles (depending on how big your purse is). This is because rugs harbour "tons" of dust particles and you never know, they may just be the culprit. If you try all the above -mebtioned and the symptoms persist, please go see your doctor. I wish you well. Cheers!! |
rasie:You're welcome anytime, anyday!!! |
rasie:Thanks Op for mentioning. In Medicine, we start treatment by eliminating the most likely cause of a disease so that we avoid treating such wrongly, in this case since your mind is strongly thinking towards that why not close your eyes and eliminate that dreaded disease....at least your mind will be at rest and you can beat your chest and continue positive living. Again even if it turns out positive, never mind the disease is no longer as dreaded as it was in times past. I can tell you that many people on this thread are living with the virus and, their spouse and children are negative. So no worry, try and go for the test and it may not be HIV after all. I can tell you that the fear of getting tested kills faster than the disease, that is the truth. So I beg you try and rule it out and the moment you do I can tell you all those symptoms will disappear completely. Try it today and you will be happy you did. I look forward to hearing from you. DEFEAT FEAR WITH FAITH!! |
Stooling for two weeks or more is an ominous sign. If the loperamide did not stop it and if you have persistent fever and some tiny swellings on your neck and armpit, then I also suggest you quickly go to the hospital for further check. Cheers!! |
The answer has already been given to you above @Pristinemuscles and Uzuede. There is nothing wrong with her. It means she has never been pregnant because with pregnancy the area closely surrounding the tip(areola) becomes darker in colour and remains so thereafter. So reassure her that she is Ok. Cheers!! |
My dear go and buy FOLIC ACID, take one tablet daily, I'm sure it will help you well and if you can mix it with FERSOLATE one tablet twice daily then you will see the magic and thank me later Best of luck my dear!! |
mercy1998:At your topic: Depo-Provera is not the same as MINERA.... MINERA is a small village in Wales, UK not a method of contraception. I'm sure you wanted to type MIRENA and MIRENA is an intrauterine contraceptive system NOT the same as Depo-Provera. Depo-Provera is an effective injectable contraceptive given intramuscularly every 3 months. Some of the side effects include irregular bleeding, nausea, weight changes, heavy bleeding, etc especially within the first 6 months of use. After one year the flow significantly reduces and may cease for a while in about halve of those using it. It may also fail, (although failure rate is low) and when it does pregnancy results and in majority of the cases it results to Ectopic pregnancy. MIRENA is also very effective and is inserted into the womb and can last up to 3years with minimal side effects. If you are worried do a pregnancy test and if it's negative, then don't worry just continue with the injectable. Cheers!! |
SUPERPACK:I've not heard of intravenous contraceptives o, please explain further, thanks. |

@Op, sorry about your loss, it only God that can console you and the entire family. May she rest in peace, Amen! Even though the exact cause of her death is unknown, there are possibilities.... The first possibility is what we call ENDOMETRIOSIS (this may not be the immediate cause of her death but could have contributed to it, albeit indirectly). Endometriosis is when the covering of the womb is found outside the womb and this has a lot of complications. People with this condition usually have chronic pelvic pain (including menstrual pain), infertility and pain during intercourse.... your sister has the first two and if her husband can tell you she probably had the third as well. Endometriosis can lead to matting or clumping together of internal organs (adhesions) and if this happens on the tubes the fertilized eggs will not move freely into the womb and may remain in the tube to form Ectopic pregnancy. It is possible she had ruptured Ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the womb that bursted), this is because she has been having treatment for infertility as well as chronic pelvic pain as a result of endometriosis. Yes she had bleeding 10 days previously...this may or may not be menstruation. It is possible that this pregnancy(in the tube) was in the process of being lost (common at her age) and all the support (hormones... progesterone) being withdrawn leading to the preparations the womb was making to receive the fertilized baby to be dismantled and appear as menstrual bleeding (what we call Arias-Stella reaction). Ectopic pregnancy especially when ruptured, is a killer. She may have died of haemorrhagic shock (internal bleeding)... remember the sudden collapse and cold extremities. Another possibility is ruptured ovarian cyst. Though it rarely causes death but it can happen. The endometriosis(which I think she had) may have caused adhesions leading the cyst bursting and bleeding inside. It could also be ruptured appendix, even though she did not have fever, vomiting or constipation... it could be an atypical presentation anyway. Like you suggested, autopsy would have answered all these questions but our people have aversion to such.... let's leave it to God, and may He alone console you people Cheers! |
Advise them to go to hospital so that the cause can at least be identified and taken care of. Although some causes of premature menopause are unknown. I wish her well |
Thank your God that yours is only November salary that you've not been paid..... |
Hi Op, I'm just wondering what this person had been doing for 5 months for something as simple as broken down episiotomy. It's obvious she had her delivery in the wrong clinic or hospital. Let her go to UPTH... University of PortHarcourt teaching hospital, they will assess it and give the right treatment. |

chidi1:Fibroadenoma is a histological diagnosis, not a clinical diagnosis. I don't get it when you talk of biopsy affecting breast symmetry.... ? Like seriously?Malignancy respects no cosmesis bro, she needs an excisional biopsy(if you get what I mean by that) either during or after pregnancy cheers!! |
dominique:I didn't agree with this until I read through your interaction with with yomi007k. Sure some tumours may remain benign for as long as possible but just needs a trigger to undergo metaplastic transformation. In this case, like yomi007k suggested, excisional biopsy is what is needed. It could be done while she is pregnant or after puerperium, and just as you pointed out, it will not stop her from breastfeeding her children. keep it up dearie!! |
Good one there........ just like Practice and Practise |
Greatfuture:God bless you!!! All those long grammar and explanation would have been used to give out their contacts as well as location....... which one is easier to do, spend energy explaining or just give out their numbers... I suspect the state governments are going to be blamed for not doing their jobs well this time around.... |

KANO – National Youth Service Corp Friday cleared air over the controversial death of a First Class graduate of Transport Management, Ifedolapo Oladepo from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Osogbo at its orientation camp in Kano . In an exclusive chat with Vanguard , the KANO Coordinator of NYSC, Abdullahi Baba said that the late Coper died in a Government hospital. “The truth of the matter was that the Coper did not died at the camp, she died in the hospital. She was sick, treated at the camp clinic, and when she was not responding, she was taken to second facility hospital at Gwarzo General hospital “. Speaking further, the state Coordinator “I have reported the matter to my Head office, she was handled by our doctors in the camp before she was transferred to Government hospital.” He distanced the Camp management from the Coper’s death stressing that “we have nothing to do with her death, the records and the file are there, the Doctors that treated her at the camp are there likewise those that treated her in her at the Government hospital”. The Coordinator declared that “anything outside this account is falsehood and people are free to hold opinion whether positive or negative but the beautiful things are that the records there for anyone to access “. Abdullahi Baba who ruled out negligence on the part of NYSC management said “her case was handled by professional and I believe they know better. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/12/kano-copers-death-story-nysc/

Just a piece of advice..... There is no herbal(be it English, Chinese or Indian) cure for fibroid. Those herbs may only cause more problems with time. I'm sure before the surgery she was told that the fibroid may reoccur after some years if she had not started giving birth except if she had attained menopause. Surgery (removal of the womb) remains the definitive cure for fibroid but this is offered to those who have finished giving birth or those close to menopause with heavy bleeding problems. All other forms of surgery, including removing the fibroid alone (myomectomy) are just conservative and not curative. The womb is made in such a way that if baby is not growing inside it, then fibroid will take over, it happens in majority of ladies especially those between 30 and 39 years. Let her go back to her doctors and stop putting her life (reproductive life) in danger. Cheers!! |
Op, yea prenatal diagnosis techniques are readily available especially in developed countries and are gaining entrance into developing countries like Nigeria, but how many can afford it? So to say that AS can marry AS without fear is rather misleading. Prenatal diagnosis, vis a vis chorionic villous sampling (CVS) only diagnoses, it does not treat, so if SS is diagnosed, then what next? Are you going to terminate the pregnancy? (remember abortion is illegal in Nigeria as at today) or she carries it to term and deliver an SS baby .... imagine the psychological trauma you subjected her to by giving her a false hope, not to talk of the expenses you made her incur.Prenatal diagnosis has revolutionized the practice of obstetrics globally, however adequate counselling is paramount to get the best out of it, especially what to do when the outcome is not palatable. I hope I've been able to make a common sense. Cheers!!! |
At this stage of the pregnancy, scan is very effective in estimating gestational(pregnancy) age with only few days margin of error. Also ask her the last time she saw her period and then discuss with a doctor to ascertain the correct date. .....on a lighter note, why not use raincoat if you no fit hold body..... remember say as you de deposit na so you fit withdraw the other one oo A word our elders say, is enough for the wise.... in Igbo parlance, "atuoro O'Mara, o mara, atuoro ofeke, ofenye isi n'ohia |

Management of infertility requires time, patience and commitment from both the clients and their doctors.... therefore, I suggest you arm yourself with those qualities. If they asked you to go for follow up in December, be patient till then so you go and discuss the results with the doctor that sent you for the test, and there you will also have opportunity to ask him/her ANY question(s) that may be bordering you. Part of the commitment is financial commitment because most of the tests and treatments are expensive but by-and-large I do believe you will get the help you and your wife need. Cheers |
