WHAT HE IS SAYING AT THE BOLDED IS THERE ARE A LOT OF FUNDING IN STEM
Moshkom:
Hey! Good day guys.

This is a reminder that the coming sessions (Spring 2023 and Fall 2023) applications are on already. If you are a prospective applicant kick start your application 'yesterday' not even today, I mean, no time.

Don't forget to apply to good schools, right programs, right time and most importantly package your applications VERY VERY WELL to get 'something' (FUNDING) from the school, we all know that a huge % of the 'best in funding' do scale through easily at the visa stage. So, why not try to get funding at the stage you're meant to get it; just try, we know it is not easy. lol

Again, if you're more than 23 years of age; already have a degree or higher diploma, it is NOT ADVISABLE you are trying the Undergraduate application, graduate study is still the best route. You have low cgpa? do result evaluation, write GRE, convincing SOP, a well packaged resume and other application materials. Yeah, they would tell you it worked for 'this' and 'that', so you should also try it, e go shock you that it might take 'you' forever before it work for 'you'. Why not just do the right it to avoid trying and errorhuh
Most of the times the VO are not the problem but 'our' profile are. Biko, let us try to get it right from onset.

I don't also see the reason why you should apply to/for a Community College, no excuse to justify that, Biko!

FUN FACT: If you're someone with pure science course (Chemistry, Biology, Agric etc) and you are still in 9ja, it is your 'fault' oh. lol

The above are MOSHKOM's personal opinions, it might count or not.

Good Luck Guys!!!

this your answer sweet me eeeeh

JapaProf:
Yes, I write SOPs for free provided you graduated with a CGPA not less than 4.50 out of an obtainable 5.0 and you show at least 2 verifiable evidence of at least 3 months nonpaid volunteer job experience with a registered NGO or INGO.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by chibertha(f): 2:19pm On Jun 22, 2022
why not look for doctorate instead

CGPA is 3.2, can I get a fully funded schorlaship for a second masters with it?

Hello Esteemed colleagues.
I'm new here.
I am got admission to Georgia southern university to study Msc in Electrical Engineering And university of New Orleans for this same course.
Please I intend to get my visa at Lagos Embassy.
Classes are starting in August 5 for GSU and August 14 for UNO.

My questions.
1. Can I get two form I20 from both schools.

Ans. yes you can

I just got married in Dec 2021 and I intend to go with my wife.

2. My wife maiden name is still on her passport. Hope this won't have any effect at the interview.

Ans. ]there is no law anywhere in the world that says a married woman must change her maiden name. She has the right to use what ever name she so wished. I have been married for over 7yrs I still have my maiden name on my passport and on my children's BC too.
Remember to go with your evidence of marriage eg marriage certificate ( from high court registry, customary court registry or family) and pictures

3. What are the chances of issuing F1 visa to newly wedded couples with no kids yet.

Ans if you backup some pages you will read the transcript of a couple who got approved 3 days after their wedding

Concentrate on how to convince the VO that you are a genuine student

Please admin add me to Lagos date search group.

You can get a subsidized rate through the office in charge of childcare providers in your county.
Go with
I-94
I-20
Class schedule
Visa
and passport biodata page
document to prove residency and
status verification letter from the school
employment letter
Paystub

but find out what your local office will need.
Remember to go with their immunization records, give this to the county health office to translate to USA standards, and then bring them up to date so that they can go to school.

in my own area you would be given 3 months to go and look for job if you don't have one as at the time of application
after 3 months please report back and tell your case worker what you are up to.

CreativeWeb:
Please, gurus in the house, I have these questions...

1. The school I'm applying to in Boston pays $2500 per month as stipend. Can this pay house rent for two rooms and support me and two kids?

2. The school says I can't work, except during 2 months school holiday. Can I work online? I have some digital skills.

3. If I come with two kids (6 and 4 years old), how would they be taken care of? Like go to school.

4. After the 5 years degree, can I choose to stay back and work by changing my status or must I come back? What if I start another degree?
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by chibertha(f): 4:32pm On Jun 20, 2022
true
UmmZayd:
If 2 rooms are not necessary you can stay in 1 bedroom apartment. And to be honest, the $2500 is not enough. The oldest can start 1st grade. The younger one will have to be enrolled at a childcare center (that's where vigorous spending will start to be sincere with you). Childcare fee is not free but you can get subsidized fee depending on the center. Yes you can't work outside your school. If your GA is 10hrs or 15, you can add on campus jobs to it but keep in mind YOUR KIDS. Childcare center is 6am-6pm.
You can start another program if you want. Yes, you can apply to change your status if you want. We have EB1,EB2 H1b and the likes so if you like.

yes if your tuition waiver is 100% plus
get a small place like 1 bed ($650 max if your landlord can pay all utilities fine) close to campus so that you can walk to school

2. The school says I can't work, except during 2 months school holiday. Can I work online? I have some digital skills.

you can only be approved to work 40hrs off-campus legally after 1 academic year and it must be CPT or you do on-campus holiday work for the school then that's during summer.

3. If I come with two kids (6 and 4 years old), how would they be taken care of? Like go to school.
they will go to school and after that daycare

6yr will be in primary 1
4 yrs is preschool
both of them can be in the same elementary school

so look for a school that has preschool
you can PC me if you need more about this

4. After the 5 years degree, can I choose to stay back and work by changing my status or must I come back? What if I start another degree?
whatever you do make sure you are not against the law

"make i clear your doubt" comedian Gbovo
I wake up at 5 am and get me ready then
I wake the 7yr old he gets ready while he is on it I will do other things

at 7.25 am we are off to the bus stop to catch the bus at 7.45 am

then me and the little one return home and I get him ready too at 8.10 am we are on our way to daycare
I drop him off 8.45 am
off to work I resume at 9 am

your work schedule is determined by your timetable.

after school, the 7yr is picked up by YMCA and sent to their facility from their his brother and his daycare provider takes him.

when I am done with my activities at 6 pm or 8.50 pm I will pick them up.
But at one point last semester the daycare woman said she could not keep them till 8.50 pm again so I had to tell my department and they approved that I should go online in for that course and only come in person for exams and presentations which I did with the boys.
Yes I went to class those days with them.

That's why I said women going with children should go early and settle down before school starts.

it is not easy but it is doable

CreativeWeb:
Please, I'm curious. How would your two kids be taken care of when you are gone to school? Can they stay alone?
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by chibertha(f):
I think they let it slide then because there were not many people doing that but changed when a lot started doing it.

they will deduct city, state and federal tax before pay
eg I get $11/hr stipend which is $220 @ 20hrs/week
I get paid every 2 weeks which is $440
so if I did just 40hrs after tax I will get about $350 ish because tax is around $50 ish.
with 43 and I am sure of $400
na so we dey do am

remember I have kids but if you don't your tax might be higher

Radarada08:
Thank you! This was really helpful.
If you don't mind please, can you share more details about the answer to the 2nd question?
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by chibertha(f):
My answer will be bolded under your questions
Radarada08:
Hi guys. Please I have some questions to ask the int'l graduate students who are currently in USA (I don't know if anyone has asked them before).

1) How do you cater for yourself? For people who receive GA/TA monthly stipends, is it usually sufficient for you for the entire month, especially after paying rent and other course fees? If yes, great! If no, what do you do to supplement it? (Besides asking for help from your family).
Some people do under the table jobs
2) Are there other on campus jobs you can combine with your GA position (maybe for 2-3 hrs) that can pay you (just to make ends meet, especially if you don't rely on your family)?
I know F-1 students have 20hrs/week to work. But a student told me on LinkedIn that her GA is actually 23hrs. Hence my question.

You can not do any other job on or off campus legally in addition to GA
As for time I try to have fragments on my daily so as to have 23 hrs from which tax would be taken

3) How did you sort out your accommodation in the US before leaving Nigeria? Most of the students I've spoken with on LinkedIn said they had friends that they squatted with for a few months. What if you don't have any friend there? Are there websites once can check for available apartments (PS: I'm going to Tennessee).

I asked international student office to give me list of property managers/landlords known by the school and I was given a whole list of their contact.
I then when to their websites to see what they had after which I contacted them.
We had a video tour then I paid reservation deposit from Nigeria.
We also agreed that if I don't like the place when I got here he would show me other properties to choose from.
I told my landlord when I was going to come in so he kept my key in the kitchen drawer and gave me the access code to the main entrance.
I signed an initial contract of 3 months Incase I don't like the place again.

I did this because I didn't know anybody and I came with 2 kids, 16 months old and 6yrs so I needed to settle down before lectures started.

4) How much will you advise an int'l student to enter the US with? Just something substantial enough to cover accommodation, feeding, and other miscellaneous expenses, pending when they start receiving their GA stipend?

Come with enough money to pay at least one semester school fees including all you mentioned above.
Even without that if you up to $3000. You should be fine.
The truth is get in
Get a place to stay
Pay tuition deposit
Put your ears and eyes on the ground to hear the foot steps of the ants.

Some schools only give GA if you have a GPA of 3.0 and above.

for food use the pantries till you stabilize use this link to get one close to you

https://www.feedingamerica.org/find-your-local-foodbank

@chibertha, @UmmZayd, @beejhay69, @Walspring, etc. (And any other person who can contribute to the questions asked).

Thanks.

It is the same with all the standardized exams.
It is not a scam.
GRE is only valid for 2 yrs

Deal with the bolded, look for another reasonable reason.
We all know NGO's are not cheap and you are not a socialite or celebraty that's why your reason did not cut it.

Hiralegend:
Good evening all, I'm truly glad to be here. I just got a second refusal on my US F1 visa application for Masters program
School to resume August 25th 2022

The first reason was that I didn't convince the VO that I had enough funds to set up an NGO after my Masters program, thus she wasn't convinced I'll return (May 31st ,2022)

The second one, there was no interview reason was that my appointment application was not properly selected ( I should have selected previously refused instead of Regular) June 17th , 2022

Right now, the Lord is my strength .
Please I'm open to advice , suggestions and best way forward.
Please assist me
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by chibertha(f): 9:11pm On Jun 17, 2022
Her refusal was not the school but what she intends to do after schooling which is setting up an NGO it is in her transcript.
guest31:
What is the total amount mentioned on your I-20? I dont know what university are you applying but if it is a very low rank, it could be another factor. Maybe your friend is right, take a step back. Relax and look for better universities for Spring/Fall 2023 and apply to the universities where you can get some funding. It would make your case much strong.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by chibertha(f): 9:06pm On Jun 17, 2022
If your visa was approved for university A and you want to Attend University B
You need not go back for visa interview what you should do is
Get into USA in the stipulated time for A and then transfer your SEVIS by yourself to B
But if you have already reported at A request for A to transfer your SEVIS to be
Very simple.

guest31:
I have a hypothetical question.

If your visa is approved for university A. Then you decide to attend university B, so you apply for a new visa and go to new interview and it gets rejected (for funding or whatever reason), in that case will your previous visa become invalid? or can you still go to university A?

Your I-20 has earliest admission date use that.

Please I would like to know if landing in US on 19th of July with earliest admission of 13th of July is not a bad idea for F1 visa and dependent on F2 in resuming for Fall 2022. I hope the CBD officers won’t frown at it ?
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by chibertha(f): 2:18pm On Jun 17, 2022
Exactly
edeXede:
Most VOs won't give you visa for unfunded Phd. It is extremely rare, except of course you are lucky. And I read you mentioned you went with a spouse, that even worsened your situation.

I will advise you turn down that admission and works towards getting funds from the school.

All funded Phd's have their visa approved 94% of the the time.
