nigeria is such an impossible place called country.
how on earth can a few individuals add N28 billion naira as their personal gain in hosting a tournament?
from N9 billion to N37billion.
it is a shame.
the three armmed bandits qhld be made to pay the prize for exposing nigeria and nigerians to such a disappointing decissions and reverse.

they have really done well for themselves.
i suggest chelsea shld go out there and fight them with iron hands and put them into their place.
the problems of such teams will start from january window when richer and bigger clubs will raid them of quality player so the coach has from now till january to take a position before the raiding starts.

wow! wonderful people, wonderful reasoning and perfect opinions.
at least we are enjoying the benefits of a learned president for the first time.
yar adua at least is thinking of more important issues before getting involved.
my suggestion here is that nigeria shld stop funding the ticket fairs of footballers because we have more pressing problems than that.
on the other hand, what will happen if nigeria decides not top attend south africa 2010 at least to have time and resources to fund more important issues. if nigeria is attending that world cup in south africa, it means we are going there to laugh at them for spending such huge amount in hosting the world cup.
the truth of the matter is that, aboki is aboki, take him to america, the only thing that will change is that he will become american aboki.
if our honourable and dishonourable senators contribute all the money they spend on their girlfriends for onle a weekend, the hosting will be proparely funded.
at worst, let us tell dangote to host the tournament and take 20 oil-wells and he will do that with ease because of his madness for oil-wells.
if efcc decides to sponsor th tournament themselves, all they need to do is to arrest that professor that handled the 1999 selections for obj and he will just give them that as a part settlement outside the court.
a very big shame to pdp, obj, yar adua, etc as i call upon benin republic to come and colonize nigeria with immediate effects.

it is a case of a fake party(pdp) with a fake president(yar adua) who is giving a fake reason for fake decissions.
assuming we have better things to do with the sum of $30million, what are those things and what have we done since we have not been hosting the under 17 world cup.
billions were collected from the abachas and yet not changed in nigeria for good.
take the senators unaware on a friday evening and see if you will not get us$30million from them.
is yar adua asking nigerians to choose between good roads and hosting world cup? if he asking us to choose between security and hosting of the world cup?
the president whls come out and tell nigerians that which is more important than the hosting of the under 17 world cup.
nigerians shld be able to know what the are trading in for the hosting of the world cup.
at the end of the day, changing furnitures in the senators residence or sponsoring a trip for the president's medical check up could be the more important issues here.
football is one of the games that is keeping nigerians moving. let them go ahead and host it with us$30 and share the rest of the money and among them as usual.
within their one year in office, who among the senators or other federal politicians is not richer with us$50million.
what is us$30million to compare with the image of nigeria.
the shameless group are afraid of the revelations that this hosting will expose nigeria to.
let the whole world come and see how we are in nigeria with the level of oil and other mineral resources God has blessed us with.
at least, players and officials must be rubbed, there must be nepa timeouts in and off the picth. nigerian police must arrest them for illegal laughing arround the stadium.
if anyone here has the money, i beg him or her to pls host the tournament so that we will show the world that we are not a third world country as they think.

we have to appreciate the fact that mikel was and is still a great player.
breaking into the first team of star studded chelsea is not an easy job.
if we look at it the other way round, he is playing in one of the world's greatest club at the moment or do we expect him to bench everyother player in chelsea and do the work alone.
i spoke of the guy in usa bcs he can't just conclude issues of a player(obinna) because he scored just a goal.
i still want to pray that obinna will continue in this manner.

the number shld be higher than that. even me am seeking assylum in abidjan now.
what a shame? it sounds like a story but a trip to some of the african countries will make u believe that our rulers will not die better death.
nigerians suffering in the streets of poorer countries and doing odd jobs in countries that are suposed to be 10 times poorer than nigeria.
if slave trade comes back to nigeria today, i will be the first to jump into the slave ships because it is now obvious that slaves in the usa and other civilised countries are better than free citizens in nigeria.
shame to our rulers. no wonder they have to import a lot of armunitions into the country just to win elections.

dayokanu,
if i may judge u by your locality here, u are not supposed to talk football rather we will need u in times of basketball of american football.
why do u use the word preffered over cruz and adriano? how many times has he played for inter? he was no where to be found in the champions league.
why do u go about comparing him with the likes of mikel and martins who are according to u over rated?
be informed that nigerians players all started like him(obinna).

on the other hand, i am enjoying it here, everyone talking good about our own(obinna) but i want to say a big thank u to the special one(mourinho).
may God continue to bless Mourinho for his interest and belief he has on nigerian players. he brought mikel to the world and now obinna.
obinna like mikel are both good but mourinho is better.

wow! yar adua said we have more serious problems than the funding of the $30m event.

The president of CAF, Issa Hayatou, has responded by saying he is "extremely disappointed and shocked" by the move.  I am also disappointed. Where are the adenugas, dangotes etc.  The giant of Africa should not spoil her name.  Our name is on the line.

Anyways, no light, no security and no good roads. So hosting such a global even will further exposed the dark side of nigeria and go ahead to contradict our adverts on CNN and other international media. Wow!! This is a moment of truth.

Nigeria gives up under-17 event
The BBC has learned that Nigeria's Football Federation (NFF) has told Fifa it wants to pull out of hosting the Under-17 World Cup in 2009.

The Nigerian government had already said that funding the $30 million budget was not a priority.

Now the BBC understands that the NFF has already renounced the right to host the global event.

well, nigerian rulers are corrupt but if there is any suggestion of a role model for nigerian leaders, Iranian president must not be in a least of one thousand presidents.
he may look simple and less expensive as a person, how many wars is he sponsoring at the detriments of iranians.
remember, hamas and hezeboulah are all been sponsored by this apostle of violence.

Sports › Re: Happy Mikel by chidichris(m): 2:48pm On Oct 11, 2008
Tatase,
if mikel is not gud, of what need is he to the national team? why must we bother ourselves with his coming or not coming?
on the other hand, u are surposed to be a woman so it will pay u more to think abt better lip sticks in the market and the latest gossip in town than wasting ur time on a game u know nothing abt.
furthermore, u are surposed to be in new orlands, why don't u think of hurricane and catheriner then if u like sports that much, u will do better discussing venus and serena williams but if u like men's things, think of basketball or american football.
my reasons:
1. the guy mikel turned ferguson into an emergency mad man when he said i will not paly for man u.
2. this guy mikel made chelsea to share money to all parties.
3. if not for norwegian court, mikel has a record financial gain for man u and ferguson in terms of transfer businesses as he was bought at 4 million and sold out at 16 million within months.
4. this guy mikel has self blief that he can walk were the high and holies are working - chelsea with all the stars.
5. in our club chelsea, there are midfielders we call holding midfielders and makalele was the man known with this role and today maka is no longer there so mikel has proved to be the best replacement no deco, not messi, not pele and not micheal jackson but mikel.
6. if u know the chelsea's formation, u will always see ur brother - mikel sitting and standing alone in between the midfielders and the defenders. baby, in our defence, u will have like four, midfield, u will see like three while in attack u will see like two but if u go holding department, u will always meet the big man. u can call him the pivot that is if u are science inclined. call him a distributor if u are into trading. he is like the executive arm for those who are into politics.
7. above all my dear, he is the only nigerian player in the top four clubs in england.
8. i want to believe that if u will drop ur sentiments and frustrations, watch the guy when he plays and listen to commentators, u will begin to appreciate what we have.

i hope that with these few points of mine, i have been able to convience and not confuss u on the relevance of mikel as a chelsea player and a SUPER - super eagles.
Sports › Re: Mikel Rule Out From Sierra Leone Match by chidichris(m): 2:14pm On Oct 11, 2008
it is really unfortunate that nigerians like negatives and derives more joy from them than the positives.
mikel's club chelsea has filed their claim of the money they spent on his transfer from lyn/man u because it has been confirmed that the guy was right in all his claims as was confirmed by norwagian court. in this case nigerians will ever remain silent.
of what importance is this match to nigeria and who said siera leone will not fall even with the likes of Olaolufred, Tatase and co in the picth against them.
let us learn to appreciate our own. he has not refused to honour an invitation here rather there was agreement between the club and the technical crew.
we should also know that a player's club form warrants his country's interest in him. if a player is not doing well at club levels, his country will not invite him unless it is in a country full of Olaolufred, Tatase and co.
mikel is becoming more important to nigerians more than petrolium and if things continues the way it is, yar adua will go on strike one day over mikel's absence from a match.
na waaooooooooooo, mikel, u are a child of blessing. your God has blessed you so no man can course u.
bro mikel, remain blessed.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › At Last: Chelsea Launch £16m Mikel Claim by chidichris(op): 5:04pm On Oct 10, 2008
Chelsea have issued a High Court claim for £16m against FC Lyn Oslo and their former chief executive Morgan Andersen over the transfer of Jon Mikel Obi.

The Premier League club want Mikel's transfer fee repaid after Andersen's criminal conviction in Norway.

Chelsea say the deal was based on the fraudulent misrepresentation that Mikel had an employment contract with Lyn.

In June 2006 they paid £4m to Lyn and £12m to Manchester United, who had a deal to sign Mikel in April 2005.

"At the time of the transfer, Chelsea, Lyn and Manchester United agreed that the fees paid would be in final settlement of the transfer, any claims related to it and that no further action or comment regarding the transfer would be made," Chelsea said in statement.

"Chelsea has written to Lyn to make clear that because the transfer was based on a fraudulent misrepresentation, now proven by a court of law, the settlement previously agreed is not binding. 606: DEBATE
Give your views on the Mikel transfer saga

"Chelsea is in contact with Lyn and looks forward to working positively with them to resolve the claim promptly.

"Chelsea would like to make clear that this legal action is against Lyn and Morgan Andersen."

United had claimed they had signed Mikel from Norwegian club Lyn but they later agreed to terminate their option agreement when the player made it clear he wanted to join Chelsea.

Andersen, who had previous convictions for forging official documents, was later convicted of fraud and making false accusations by an Oslo court.

He was given a one-year suspended jail sentence.

shame to morgan, shame to lyn, shame to fergusion, shame to man u and shame to all those who contributed or supported this evil plot against our own mikel.

this has gone a long way to prove this saying; no matter how deep truth is buried under the ground, it must surely surface one day no matter how long it takes.

chelsea shld go ahead and claim 1.5 billion dollars from both man u and lyn for the inconviences.

if i am mikel, i will not come close to the field again because i am going to make claims above 5 billion dollars after that, i will buy man u and lyn oslo.

up mikel, up chelsea and up the real good people arround who have contributed in one way or the other to this success.

the issue here is that the leaders are mad. the adverts in america and some other countries will say, DO NOT PAY UPFRONT.
this is another way of encouraging their people to help our rulers steal our money and at the same time to be on the safe side by not paying.
the scam will not stop as long as our rulers are shifting our funds out.

far from the truth, i do not know the last time u were in nigeria but events back home is showing that we are directing our efforts to go down to fourth world country. nigeria has succeeded in a step forward and four backward.

Politics › Bode George: What A Man Could Not Do: Farida Has Done It Effortlessly. by chidichris(op): 11:13am On Aug 16, 2008
With the arrest and arraignment of Chief Olabode George before an Ikeja High Court over charges of corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the ancient adage that says ‘what a man can do, a woman can do even better’ has been given a new dimension. Indeed, we are seeing a revolutionary dispensation in which what even a man could not do; a woman has succeeded in doing almost effortlessly.

Olabode George is one of the high-ranking Obasanjo royalists, who were considered untouchable, while his backer held sway as commander-in- Chief of the Armed Forces. As a National Vice Chairman for the South West region of the PDP and core player in the Obasanjo government, Nuhu Ribadu’s EFCC could not touch him even with a long pole. Despite series of petitions against Bode and an indictment by an investigative panel in which Nuhu Ribadu was a member, Nuhu looked the other way while brandishing a list of Obasanjo’s political enemies who he condemned to be unfit to hold public office even without a court conviction.

It was not only Bode that was set apart for special treatment by the then EFCC. As facts emerging from series of probes in the National assembly have revealed, several Ministers serving under that administration were mired in shady deals which could not have possibly gone undetected by the EFCC. Name them: Imoke, Agagu, Borishade, Fani-Kayode, El-Rufai, who were in the clean books of the EFCC, (with the first two even (s)elected Governors), have now been exposed as the very agents of state fraud, be it through power projects, Aviation Intervention Fund, or sale of land/properties in the FCT or 1004 flats in Lagos. Add this list to that of Fabian Osuji, Grace Esomo, Sunday Afolabi (RIP) and perhaps Tafa Balogun and you could reach the conclusion that Obasanjo excelled in the art of hiring crooks to work for him.

That Nuhu knew about the involvement of Bode in the scandal that has finally caught up with him (George), is evident in the answer he gave in an interview he granted Elendu Reports sometimes in June 2006. When asked if he was investigating Bode Geoarge, he became evasive and unusually incoherent, attempted to parry the question but eventually stated that his committee found out that things were not done properly under the leadership of Bode George at the NPA, that thereafter the Federal Executive Council asked for criminal investigation in the matter (which for some strange reasons he did not carry out), and concluded that (as far as Bode George was concerned) it was ‘difficult’ to work in Nigeria! But was it not in the same Nigeria that he prosecuted Alamayiesiagha, and Tafa Balogun? Two years later, we have seen a woman triumph where this gallant officer failed woefully.

Interestingly in that same interview, questioned about the alleged targeting of opposition party members who were accused of sleaze by the EFCC, he suddenly waxed bold again and forgot that it was still the same Nigeria where it is ‘difficult’ to work. He blurted out arrogantly ‘this is war and they don’t know me, I am a suicide bomber, I will fight them’. Note the repeated use of ‘I’; it was not the EFCC as an institution fighting this aspect of the war; it was a personal assignment of Ribadu, targeted at the enemies of his master. It is equally interesting to note that the EFCC under Ribadu had enough information to frame over 163 charges against Bode (as Farida has done) but lacked the courage to do even one. Not that I fancy these long list of charges anyway, but just to stress the fact that Ribadu had enough information to prosecute Bode George, which he swept under the carpet.

It is this cover-up plot that gave Bode the boldness to dare the EFCC last week on return from holidays abroad where he explained he had gone to regenerate his political catalyst in readiness to ‘launch back on the plough’. Bode was quoted as saying that whoever insinuated that he had run away in fear of EFCC should ‘bring his/her EFCC to come and arrest me’. He went on to brag that he had no questions to answer as far as his six-year career as part-time Chairman of the NPA is concerned. Unknown to Bode, the EFCC had 163 questions waiting for him to answer before a court of law. Unknown to bode, the new EFCC belonged to no godfather of his, who could beckon on it to recoil from him the way he is accustomed to. His bragging was thus akin to the grandstanding of a contemptuous criminal.

In the aftermath of Ribadu’s removal and redeployment to the NIPSS, which was made inevitable by his refusal to wean himself of the milk from Obasanjo’s lawless dispensation and kowtow to the rule of law which is the guiding philosophy of the Yar’Adua administration, and the ensuing lamentations from those who believed he had no substitute, and sought to conscript everyone into a cacophony of Ribadu cheerleaders, as well as assemble a mob of government blackmailers through media half-truths, I wrote in an article titled ‘ Weep not over Ribadu’ that indeed his removal was one of the boldest and most decisive actions of the Yar’Adua government . So far nothing has happened in the EFCC that would make me to change that position. Rather I am more and more persuaded that, his removal was in the best interest of Nigeria.

With Ribadu in the saddle, the likes of Adenike Garange, Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, Fani-Kayode, Prof.Borishade, and now Bode George would never have gotten the opportunity to clear their names, which most Nigerians believe are stained with corruption. Those soothsayers who predicted the death of the EFCC after Ribadu’s exit have resorted to cynicism. These critics never gave Waziri a chance right from the onset and it is not surprising that they see nothing good in the same EFCC they claimed to be protecting few months ago in protest of his removal. They downplay and belittle the giant strides so far made by the iron lady within the short period she has been at the head of the anti-graft agency. They maintain that the EFCC is dead or about to be killed by this regime against overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Farida is putting them to shame and I know more shame awaits them in the months to come.

One institution the EFCC must beam its searchlight on is the National Assembly where the opposition to Waziri’s appointment was hatched. I am encouraged that recent comments from her indicate that she is aware of this obligation. While on a visit to the House speaker Dimeji, Bankole, She was quoted as saying that she has no respect for lawbreakers and as Nuhu Aliu once told us, some of them are in the Senate. I am aware that some people may take this as advocating for a revenge mission. Far from it. Something is simply not right with the kind of incongruous and almost dubious budgetary allocations, appropriated by the Senate by themselves and for themselves in the 2008 Appropriation Bill and it would be a great disservice to the nation if the EFCC looks the other way while the national coffer is plundered.

I cannot finish this piece without commenting on the demotion of Ribadu by the Police Service Commission. I was shocked by this novel action by the PSC due to the sheer unlikelihood of such a reversal happening in these shores, having not happened before as far as my memory can recollect. The most I expected was for Ribadu to be kept on the rank of AIG until those he jumped over meet up with him. Having said that however, my personal opinion is illustrated by a story of a man who was chased into thick thorns by a lion. But after the lion had left, it became difficult to get the man out of the thorns. While the villagers were contemplating a solution, a mad man who was watching the whole drama with drama with consternation, became furious, took a match and set the bush on fire. The trapped man on seeing the fire tore through the thick thorns and came out within a second with the fury of a man being pursued by a beast. The mad man then laughed hysterically and told the villagers that common sense dictates that what took force to enter the thorns, required force to come out. Ribadu is that man, Obasanjo the lion; The Police Officers who were protesting over the promotion are the villagers while the PSC is the mad man!

In any case, this demotion affected over 138 other officers whose promotion was deemed inappropriate by the PSC, so I do not understand the clatter about Ribadu. Any attempt to single out Ribadu’s for special treatment would amount to dishonest logic. It was Ribadu himself who made fun of the inapt promotion when he was asked about it in the interview I quoted earlier in this piece. Hear him ‘It’s all politics, you can’t promote someone who does not work for you’.
