A friend needs an advice...

He has 30k usd invested. He gets 5% annually as interest in usd...
5% interest on 30,000 annually is 1500usd
1500 * 740 = 1,110,000 in naira

He then noticed that if he had converted the money to naira, his interest would have been much better because the interest on naira is around 10% - 14%...
30000 * 740 = 22,200,000
10% interest on 22,200,000 annually is 2,220,000

Now, he's contemplating on whether to convert his money to naira for fast growth or leave it in usd. And at the same time, he is scared of naira devaluation. Anyone?
Where is he investing? 5% is nice. He should invest his dollar interest on naira investment. Win win

Ding! It's shocking otherwise brilliant minds on this thread don't get it.

As long as one earns in naira, and spends in naira, whatever gains he/she makes will useless in long run as our currency continues to dip
There’s real estate too.

CBN has mandated the banks to peg their rates at a minimum of 30% of MPR which equals 4.2%.

https://nairametrics.com/2022/08/16/nigerias-central-bank-increases-interest-rates-on-savings-deposit-to-4-2/

Access Bank is 4.65% - adjusted based on new MPR of 15.5
GT is 4.2% - yet to adjust

Thanks

The useless Tbills is more certain than the gambling in dollar, the reverse might be the case. The dollar is weaker as at today, it's only deemed strong when compared to a weaker currency like ours.

Tbills is a secured investment, better than not investing at all. If I want to take risk, I will take a far better risk like I did last time.
What do you mean the dollar is weaker, the dollar that is waxing strong everyday? Naira is even currently overvalued going by the strength of the dollar today.

Better you buy treasury bills..

The sudden rise in dollars is artificial..
I remember when we used to call the rise in dollar at 400+ artificial and was thinking it will fall at some time instead it kept going up.
Nobody should expect any fall in dollar till this administration leaves. I think it will get to 650 by December

Please can someone kindly explain this to me?

What's the difference between the 7.625% and 4.02%?

The way I understand it, if I invest $1153.7 my money is worth $1000 and I get 4.02% pa, is that correct? Or is it now worth $1000 at 7.625% pa?
What app is this

Exactly. People don't want to see or rather acknowledge the truth. In their defence, they would rather have the U.S. hold so much power than have China, Russia, or any of these Middle East countries become the world power. The fact is that no country should be allowed to hold too much power at the detriment of others, whether it is China or the U.S.

It's funny how people think that the term "absolute power corrupts absolutely" does not apply to the U.S.

The U.S. definition of human rights is restricted to same-sex marriage. It excludes any economic fundamentals that will give other countries an edge over the U.S.
Like I said, it’s more of emotions than logic. Why should US hold that much power. Why won’t they when they are the richest in the world and will always remain so. We saw how China was nearly crippled by trump policies restoring US manufacturing to US. The propaganda of dollar being replaced has been on for as long as we can remember but has not happened and will remain so in our lifetime

What propaganda? That Petrodollar is gradually fading or the fact that some oil producing countries are beginning to trade oil in their own currency?

Even Nigeria considered a currency swap deal with China at the onset of Buhari administration.

Also, the technology market does not operate like the oil sector, where the U.S./OPEC rules.
So since the petrodollar is fading like you said why hasn’t it affected the dollar? Why didn’t the Nigeria swap deal with Buhari go through, by next year Buhari will be done

Anything can happen. Dollar is #1 because of oil deal.

The developed world will eventually dump oil. Most of these countries plan to dump combustion vehicles before 2030. Countries like the UK and the Netherlands will be placing a ban on combustion vehicles by 2030 to create room for the likes of Tesla.

Mind you, the U.S. has already lost its competitive edge on green energy to China. With more than 40% of electric vehicles, solar energy, and inverter engines in the world coming from China, the power of the U.S. dollar is only going to last a few years.

If green energy won't terminate the U.S. currency hegemony, Bitcoin would.
Again this would never happen, any shift from oil would also move to tech/electric that will still be dominated by US dollar. Most iPhones today produced in China and yet does not affect dollar dominance. You people should just stop the propaganda, dollar will still dominate in our lifetime. Even bitcoin is traded with dollar

The world will soon be done with dollar hegemony. Russia/Ukraine crisis has opened the eyes of many countries. China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, India and other nations are now concluding plans on how to trade with each other using their local currencie instead of using dollars as the only means of payment. It is only a matter of time before African countries follow suit, dollar is certainly still gonna dominate but it will definately lose lots of relevance on the international market.

It is only a matter of time... The pace to reduce the strength of dollar globally has already been set.... even IMF has seen the hand writing on the wall.

Sorry this will never happen. Dollar will still remain world currency for a long time to come, the propaganda against US and dollars is just emotions, we’ve been hearing for long time. Us will still dominate in our lifetime

There are so many ways, it costs me money to find two working ways, unfortunately I can't spill it on a public forum or even in private cos what works for me won't work for others.

All I will say is look deep and keep doing feasibility studies. I can't put any Naira into anything less than 15 percent a year, the ones I'm doing now gives me at least that minimum within weeks. Everybody keeps learning, devaluation has done me strong thing, some people will never fully understand as classroom don't really teach these things.

The FGN rates are very tempting and hard to ignore but in a dwindling economy hmmm.

Oga it’s impossible to buy dollar at 430 unless stolen. Do you realize Access bank online rate for online transactions is 550

I don't think anyone in their right mind would invest N5K in bonds, just printing the forms already cost N500 per page in some locations, internet N3500 per month.

For N5K investors, better use it buy one carton of Hero.

Anything less than N50K I would suggest buying USDT Crypto, N50k and above try buy dollar at N430, Naira will never go below that in the history of mankind.

N10 million and above, property in a developed area will surely payoff.

Buy dollar 430 from where
