The GOP presidential field grew by two Monday as retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson and former technology executive Carly Fiorina both announced they are running for president. The two new candidates enter a quickly expanding GOP field as Democrats get off to a relatively slow start, with another Republican -- former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee -- set to make his announcement on Tuesday. Together, Carson and Fiorina add to the diversity on the Republican side; Fiorina is the first, and possibly only, female Republican in the race, while Carson is the first black candidate of either party to enter the campaign. Carson formally launched his campaign in his hometown of Detroit on Monday. "I'm Ben Carson, and I'm a candidate for president of the United States," Carson said, after being introduced with a series of musical acts. In his soft-spoken tone, Carson blasted big government -- and the Affordable Care Act -- while also acknowledging his history of controversial comments. He described his candor, however, as an asset. "I'm not politically correct," he said, to applause. "I'm probably never going to be politically correct, because I'm not a politician. I don't want to be a politician. ... Politicians do what is politically expedient. And I want to do what's right." Carson tipped his hand a day earlier, also telling Ohio's WKRC-TV that he was announcing his campaign for the White House. |

By Stephen Addison LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's Duchess of Cambridge, the wife of Prince William, gave birth to a girl on Saturday, the couple's second child and a great grand-daughter to Queen Elizabeth. The royal family's newest member was born at 8:34 a.m., some 2-1/2 hours after Kate Middleton was admitted in the early stages of labor to St Mary's Hospital, West London, the couple's Kensington Palace residence said in a statement. The couple emerged later the same day with the baby wrapped in a white woolen shawl and bonnet to pose for photographs on the steps of the hospital, a little over 12 hours after Kate arrived. Kate cradled the sleeping princess in her arms as the couple waved to the cheering crowd, although they made no comment. A few minutes later, Prince William carried the baby in a car seat to a waiting vehicle, and then drove his wife and new daughter the short distance to Kensington Palace. The baby princess will be fourth in line to the throne behind her brother Prince George, father William and grandfather Prince Charles, pushing her uncle Prince Harry down a place in the royal hierarchy. The baby, whose name has yet to be announced, weighed 8 lbs 3 oz and William was present at the birth, the palace said. "Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well," it added. Both families of the couple had been informed, including the new baby's great-grandparents Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. She becomes the 89- year-old queen's fifth great-grandchild. William left the hospital later in the afternoon and soon returned with young George to introduce him to his new sister. "I'm very happy," he told reporters and the large crowd of royal fans, some of whom have been camping outside for days. The birth will provide a welcome distraction for many Britons from the country's knife-edge general election campaign, which comes to a head with the vote next Thursday. Britain's leading politicians took time out from the election trail to send their best wishes. Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted: "Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their baby girl. I'm absolutely delighted for them," while Labour leader Ed Miliband said the news was fantastic and added "I know the whole country will be wishing them well.” The birth has also provided a boon to the country's bookmakers who having first offered odds on the child's likely sex, now turn their attention to names, with Charlotte, Alice, Victoria and Elizabeth the current favorites. Slightly longer odds are available on Diana, Eleanor and Alexandra. William, 32, was born at the same hospital to the late Princess Diana in 1982. He and Kate, 33, met as students at St Andrews University in Scotland, married in a spectacular ceremony at Westminster Abbey in April 2011. Their first child, George, was born in July 2013. When Kate leaves hospital, the couple will return to Kensington Palace in central London for a couple of days before heading to Anmer Hall, their country mansion on the queen's Sandringham estate in Norfolk, eastern England. jpphilips:i dont really understand your point. I dont understand understand why are calling me names. Every state wont have DISCO. But for your information, Enugu Distribution Company (DISCO) that controls south east is owned by Sir Emeka Offor is ANAMBRA man. I dont know why you are firing on this DISCO since... I am not a fan of ngige sir. He is a failure. |
Lier like you... Habinger of a BAD news... Nonsense... I will read this story after you i v been quoted... |
A very sad news. Accept my condolence Feddy. |
fabulousdora:i dont believe u sir because victor umeh cant beat uche in anambra central election when the whole anaocha has already conspired again him prior to the election but lets leave that one. What of INEC? What reason will they give to nigerians that made them to throw up ngige? |
arbitter:the name calling is yet to start and you are already this angry. Funny world. The BBB sounds so good though i wont be amongst those that will him names at all. But the opposition messed up the office of the presidency in the name of politicking. Too bad though. Let GMB learn to bottle his anger because names will fall on his feet soon. I mean enough names... |
fabulousdora:okay i believe you but if the person that took first position steps down, is it the person that took 3rd that step up or the person that took 2nd position? Again dont you think it will throw up lots of credibility question on the activities of INEC? What do you think that will be the reaction of APGA whose candidate Victor Umeh took 2nd position? Let us reason... |
liberty300:the british up until now is still afraid of the people of lower niger. Remember king jaja of opobo. They gave power to the north because they can easily manipulate them to their favour then. I dont know about now. I just hope buhari will not do their will as gej rejected their will. |
FreeGlobe:nne gini bu nsogbu gi hia? Disi posutu isi notu abawutu mista pita obi biko. Ihe ana ekwu hia bu abawutu uche ekwunife na chris ngige. Lekwagi ka iga anwu n‘oge gi elughi maka mista pita obi. Rapu nwamadi ahu aka na onweghi ife omeregi. Biko |
Edusouls:bros take it easy. This news is a lie. In that election. Uche got over 100000 votes followed by victor umeh (apga) with over 70000 votes & ngige came 3rd with a little over 20000votes, so tell me the rationale in telling uche to step down for the person that came 3rd. What do you think the person that came second will do? Abeg when we read, we should also reason. |
DjAndroid:which part of the news do you think i didnt read? Please tell me... Leadership newspaper is owned by Nda Isa Isaiah of APC, and they like punch trive in falacy. The point i raised in my post is that, no sane person will tell someone to relenquish a post for someone that came third. If Uche steps down it means victor umeh who came second will be the one that will go to the senate. Ngige came a DISTANT 3rd that is my point. Point to me that part of the news you think i didnt read... Am waiting |
Yeske2:well my brother i doubt if understand how the house is ran. Go to the constituency that Uche represents at the house & you will see numerous things including road projects she attracted to them. Check house of assembly records and see how many motions Uche moved. I live in Anambra central senotorial district which Ngige represents at the senate, ngige has failed us. |
FreeGlobe:is Peter Obi contesting for senate presidency? Is it not time you wake up from this your bad dream? The issue here is between Uche Ekwunife & Ngige... I was thinking by now after a year plus you still have not suvived Mr Peter Obi‘s trashing of Ngige... Tooooooo baaaaad |
PassingShot:lolzzzz APC have never been faced with single problem, not even one... Or remind me that problem they faced. You dont have problem with saraki becoming the senate president but i tell you, ACN (tinubus APC) have a problem with that. |
PassingShot:this is what PDP always say until recently. Well all i know is that many people in the house of assembly who are none yorubas detest tinubu & will do everything to spite him. Saraki is likely going to be the new senate president or PDP takes it back. Tinubu is only afraid of sarakis ambition of becoming the president of nigeria in 2019 |
cozy7:as much as i loveyour believe, faith & trust in buhari. Please i have a question to ask: you claimed that buhari is a man of his words. My question is, where & when has buhari made any promise in the past or has he said anything and live up to it that gave you this strong convidence in him? |
omonnakoda:first of all the constitution was prepered by hausa/fulani soldiers not by the Nigerian people. Secondly: ibo is represented there as a language not as a people (eg: english is the language of the people of england). We are IGBO & our languge is also IGBO. These and many other reasons are why many Nigerians believe that our constitution does not represent the will of the Nigerian people. We need a new constitution with contribution from all Nigerians. 2014 national Conferrence should adopted. |
This news cant be true. Leadership like all APC news outlet likes to lie so much. How can someone ask Uche Ekwunife the performer to step down for none perfomer. Ngige is a failure. He failed us that live in senatorial district. Uche did so well FOR the 3 local governments under her constituency as a house of rep member. Another thing that made this news riduculous is that Ngige came a distant 3rd in that election with about 20000votes. Victor Ume came second with about 70000votes. So if Uche steps down APGA (victor ume) would jump in to take the position, therefore Ngige has nothing in this matter. Conclusion: this news is a BIG FAT LIE. |
jpphilips:dear you are wrong here. I live in his senatorial district, what we are waiting for is his first constituency project. Alor civic centre (his town) can not be accepted as a constituency project. Ngige failed us BIG TIME. Assuming that GMB didnt win this (s)election this would have been his road to oblivion. |
momentum85:lolzzz how did Ngige suffer with buhari? You are forgeting that out the three major political parties that make up APC, Ogbonny Onu is the leader of one them. That is ANPP. If things are done right i think OO should be given the post. |
To APC supporters everybody that didnt support Buhari is either seeking for asylum or looking for a way to avoid jail. I think it is time to these guys (apc) that buhari is not going into aso rock as a “general“ in the army but as a civilian. If all those that oppesed buhari are either jailed or go into exile it means that nigeria is really going back to the dack ages. Abeg... You people should stop using all this your jail bruhaha to disturb us... No one is going into exile for anybody. |
ShowYourCertificate:read it well... If it is true then it is a pre-election & a campaign promise...“that is if it is true.“ i couldnt access the link |
Sirniyeh:well this beyond APC manifesto. Remember this is democracy; nothing happens without going through the national assembly. Guess those who have majority in national assembly. Do you know why PIB hs not been passed? Simply because it will remove feeding bottle from many mouths above the Niger. In democracy many things comes into play when one makes none executive decision. GMB might honest but his honesty will have no effect if it runs contrary to the will of his people. |
WisdomFlakes:Straight to the point: i am not talking of house of reps but am talking about the senate. Tinubu has his boys in the senate PDP will be the people to decide who becomes Senate president & not APC. Lawan & David Mark are a little close but PDP senators detest Tinubu as a person. And he has made some statements lately that has placed him in a bad light amongst even some northern APC senators. Having said this: Bukola Saraki will get PDP senators support if he makes his intention public even when it is known that Tinubu wont support him. The only thing that will stop Saraki of senate presidency is if he is convinced by APC leadership to shield his ambition & he agrees. Let me also tell you this: if APC starts any form of infighting, PDP will take over senate president once again. Politics is a game of wits. Tinubu is good but the north has started cutting him to size. I wont respond to you again cos your brain is weak. Your level of thinking is poor & it will cause me much pain discusiing wit you... Byeeeee happy workers day |
fyneguy:if it is easy as you just said it, then APC would not have been placed in serious pause just to finalise their zoning. Well for politics sake, PDP is waiting like an injured lion to strike if APC makes any single mistake. Well i am not being naive & i will not call you names yet but take it or leave it: Saraki might recieve the backing of PDP senators. Just watch & see Saraki play the same game Tambuwal played in 2011. |
PapiWata:GOD so much believe in nagotiation cos even GOD HIMSELF has always invited humans to a nagotiation table. |
kcpragmatik:i wont doubt you being an Igbo. But please can you remind me your place & state of origin in Igboland. Now tell me how the Igbos drew this your margin? |
