Burna Boy performed for the second time at the 2019 Coachella music festival currently being held at Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.The second leg of this year’s Coachella Festival held between April 19, 2019 and April 21, 2019, and Burna Boy performed for the second time in two weeks. His performance lasted for 50 Minutes and he performed before 4,000 fans.  LA Times described Burna Boy’s performance as a way of “spreading the gospel.”


Burna Boy who spoke after his performance, said, “It’s good for people who haven’t heard me before to hear me. Africa is like the home of everything. It’s the beginning of everything. So it’s like whether or not you directly listen to African music, you have listened to African Music.”

Nigeria's Divine Oduduru who is currently a student of the Texas Tech University, has become the fastest man in the world after breaking a 10-year-old jinx.The Nigerian born sprinter who competed in the 200m and finished 7th at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016, ran sub-10 over the weekend in an invitational.

Divine Oduduru became the fastest man in the world, after he ran the fastest time in the world in 2019, clocking a lifetime best of 9.94 (0.8 m/s), at the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco, Texas.His 100m PB, until the invitation, was 10.10 set in 2018. He also smashed his 200m PB still stands at 20.08, running the fastest time this year, 19.76.

He not only shattered his own PB (20.08) in the 200m, his time would have won him gold at the 2016 Olympic Games 200m event, with Usain Bolt in the field.

Sonny Echono, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, who spoke on Thursday at the inauguration of a pilot Literacy Centre for the North-central zone at Federal Government College Otobi, disclosed that 60m Nigerians are illiterates. Sonny who stated that the  literacy level at the lower cadre of the colleges is alarming, expressed regret that the illiteracy rate among the youth and adults is high.

The permanent secretary who stated literacy was both a social and human rights issue as he called on the learners at the pilot centre to remain committed and take their studies with all seriousness, disclosed that Literacy Centres to be established in 104 Federal Government Colleges (FGCs) are aimed at reducing the high rate of illiteracy at the low cadre of the staff of the institutions, stressing that the federal government designed the literacy programme to cater for them and others in the host communities.

President Buhari has finally signed the minimum wage bill into law, few weeks after it was passed by the National Assembly.President Buhari signed the minimum wage bill into law, after the Nigerian workers pleaded with him over the bill which had already been passed by lawmakers. 


The billed was passed by both chambers of the National Assembly before the general election, the House of Representatives in January and the Senate in March.

A Nigerian man took to Facebook to call out SARS officers in Port-Harcourt who are now offering him a refund to stay silent after an extortion. According to Benjiszzy Záakìi Omale, he accosted by the SARS officers and his only offence was that he was carrying a laptop. He further revealed that these SARS officers who detained him till evening at their station, also deleted the debit alert notification from his phone.

The Australia nightclub shooting which occurred in Melbourne, has left one dead and fours others injured.While the Australia nightclub shooting at the Love Machine venue is not thought to be terror related, however investigators are likely to examine links to a motorcycle gang. Though mass shootings in Australia are rare as the country overhauled its gun laws after 35 people were shot dead in Port Arthur, Tasmania in 1996, the country saw its worst incident since then last year after seven members of the same family died in a murder-suicide.

Police said shots were fired from a car into a crowd standing outside the two-story Love Machine club, hitting three security guards at the nightclub and one patron. Police appealed for anyone with video footage or information to come forward. They have made no arrests so far.The recent shooting had two men, aged 29 and 50, hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries. One of those in a serious condition is aged 28, but no details about the fourth victim has been released. The police however later confirmed that one man, 37 years old, had died.

The 20-year-old girl who was killed by policemen in Ajegunle area of Lagos State, has been identified as Jessy Gold on Facebook. Recall we reported earlier that police reform activist, Segun Awosanya a.k.a Segalink who confirmed the death of the girl, disclosed that the policemen who shot her are attached to the Trinity Police Station in Ajegunle, Lagos.


However an update on the report, revealed that the 20-year-old girl who was killed by policemen in Ajegunle has been identified as Jessy Gold. Her boyfriend who was also shot, is in coma. Friends of the deceased have also penned down tributes to her. Melisa Divine wrote;
