It may be perceived as boring at first glance due to the setting but the plot is really catchy.

It wasn't about blame, I was just curious as to how her husband reacted to her rapid weight gain. I wasn't blaming her alone. In that case, I blame her, her husband, and the people who smuggled in the food.

Jamaicans are known for being explicit with lyrics. I don't think Gyptian was scared. You might have a point though. . .since the explicit Jamaican songs aren't on the American radio but this one is.

Studies show that oyinbo women tend to have low self-esteem concerning their body more than other races especially their Black counterparts. She obviously had some problems which led her to be depressed and eat a lot to escape this(they usually do). Her husband let her get away with it by probably making her feel it was okay to gain so much weight. If he made comments(doesn't have to be disrespectful but that's usually more effective  ) that show that he doesn't find her new size attractive, she might have been a tad bit more bothered.

I bet he was still sleeping with her.   This altogether boosts her esteem. And the whole excuse of her having an addiction is useless because she actually didn't have access to the junk food while in the hospital. THEY brought it to her. She probably wouldn't have died of the "addiction" if they didn't sneak in the food, she was in a hospital and undergoing care to alleviate her problem.

That seems to be the problem. They obviously deem themselves too masculine to do house chores, which is funny considering they're not even the "bread-winners" - the role they claim to be theirs. It would interest you to know that these men who supposedly brought their wives to the States and then killed them barely have employment, many of them taxi drivers. The mind boggles. The wives are supposed to be their free pass to success - breadwinner(but don't act like it oo, you're still a slave  ) while still doing ALL the house chores. Now that'd make her a QUALITY WIFE!

Dude, it's not rocket science. Even crimes that are not committed against women are rarely dealt with by the "law" in Nigeria. So, yes, there may be many cases of wife-butchering that have gone unreported because the police don't care enough.

If not, how could he allow his wife let herself go like that? He stuck with her but he wasn't much of a help either.

There are conceited beings on both sides but the reality is, the people involved so far have been nothing but people who have expected to be treated as 'gods' or like they were told they ought to be. These people found out too late that reality of marriage will likely not line up with their perception and so they decided to take the law in to their own hands.

For those foaming in the mouth that women in the US or UK are bad and low quality, I will ask why the same trend exists even today in Nigeria? There are so many cases of men killing their wives even in Nigeria. Only our media does not do a good job reporting all these cases right there in Nigeria as we would want have loved.  But a good question to ask is why are there also cases of men killing their wives right there in Nigeria? These are wives who have probably never been to the UK or US or any other country -- many of them uneducated and not FEMINISTS in the western sense of the word.

They're not going to address the points you brought up. I just laugh at the talk about Nigerian women in the US being wayward because I'm pretty sure these women that were killed were brought from Nigeria after living there for years. I repeat, nobody will remain a door-mat forever regardless of the village you sought her out from.

Yes, they have a choice of whom to marry and these marriages would work out regardless of whether they brought the woman across the ocean or not, IF they have the right mentality about how a family should be run. But since they have this innate and archaic mindset about it, these marriages would probably never work out. Well, some of them do work but not technically. . .since the women are usually not happy anyway but choose not to divorce.

You'll find it interesting to know that many of these men who butcher their wives earn less income than their Nurse(barely educated as you see it) wives. The man could never be a slave(That's like calling a Black person or a minority a racist - technically, not possible) because even if he was the absolute bread-winner, the wife caters to the upkeep of the household - cooking, cleaning, child-raising. Now, switch it around and the wife is the bread-winner, she's still held responsible for doing the aforementioned by the husband. A mere suggestion to help out more since his job is less tedious is an insult. This IS the mentality I was speaking of - Adhering strongly to gender roles even when you can not fully perform the roles supposedly made for your gender.

Why do you think it works for couples already living here? Could it be that they have both acclimatized themselves with the environment? I feel as though men who go to Nigeria looking for wives are merely looking for someone they deem inferior(Kobojunkie mentioned this already). They believe that the fact that they brought the women to the States is meant to put them on a higher pedestal than men are already put in the Nigerian society. They make the mistake of forgetting that this is America and humans have rights which protect them unlike Nigeria. The realization that these women have become privy to these rights and are beginning to embrace and enjoy it makes these men feel intimidated. After all, they thought they married slaves but the slave seems to be getting smarter. They know the Nigerian women based here are already knowledgeable about these things so these men wouldn't go for those ones because they're looking for door-mats but unfortunately for them, the Nigerian ones don't stay that way for long.
