CultureRe: ‘igbo Language May Go Extinct’ by chiogo(f): 12:20am On Jul 22, 2010
Asha80,

You're right. I picked up the language just by hearing my parents speak it to me. I never learned it in school and yea, I can barely speak Igbo without adding some English words. But the problem stems from the language itself because even my parents and the older generations use English words while speaking Igbo since many English words cannot be directly translated to Igbo like Table(Tabulu huh), TV, etc.

I think spanish has being,it is on it way out, just like portuguese.Chinese as bad as i may sound will soon colonize the world with way things are going.
Hmm, highly doubt it. Maybe even French  tongue

EzeUche:
That is why we need our own countries!

If there was a Biafra, Igbo would only be spoken except for English. Just like Twi is popular among Ghanaians besides English, we would be using Igbo.
Yea right. And what about the massive amount of Igbo people abroad? Are you going to force them to come live in Biafra and learn the language? Let's be honest here, Lagos or no Lagos, they coulda learned the language but the parents just chose not to teach them.

Language comes with power, superiority and influences. The need to speak others language instead of yours comes with essentiality, not a matter of choice.

If chinese become the world power in the near future, definitely the rest of the especially africans who are always at the background will be forced to speak their language to be able to communicate with them in the quest for survival.
I'll say Spanish has a better chance after English.

Most people don't even know a word in Chinese besides when people make up non-existent words that sound like how the language sounds to the ear. It's really not that common, in America anyway besides among Asians.

aren't commercials and magazine shoots doctored?
Sure. They all are. So, I don't see the complaint about Rihanna, it's the same thing they all go through to be famous. The White Directors obviously think they'd look better with the extra lighting effects. We just dunno if they still look like that outside the set.

DezVienna:
You guys think so?  I don't think beyoncé looks lighter, I just think she has better skin care and and the texture of her skin is better condition than when she was younger.
LOL! Yea right, better skin care indeed. That's the excuse people always give.

She wasn't that young in that pic, I'm talking teenage years, I don't remember her being that color.

CultureRe: ‘igbo Language May Go Extinct’ by chiogo(f): 9:24pm On Jul 20, 2010
This is bull.
In the Eastern part of Nigeria, the language spoken is Igbo. You'll rarely hear English. Yeah, many Igbos living outside the East - Lagos, Abroad, etc, can't always speak it, I'm not one of those and I'm happy tongue But last time I checked, many of these people are learning, like my cousins. I don't think the trend is getting worse.

This is true about Tyra.  However, I don't see how Beyoncé got any lighter.
You still don't see it even with the pictures you posted? Is her shade in the first pic the same as in the other pics? I love Beyonce too, I do grin She's actually my favorite female artist but let's call a spade a spade. Have you seen any of her L'Oreal commercials? She's practically white with her blond weave and all. She was def. darker when she was a teen.

CelebritiesRe: The Nigerian Scam Email Addressed To Megan Fox by chiogo(f): 6:39pm On Jul 20, 2010
@Gators, where did you get the email from? And where was it stated by Megan Fox that it's from a Nigerian? I don't get it.

It's possible though that it's a Nigerian but it could also really be a guy from Bangladesh after all other Asian countries like China and Russia are also known for scamming. But the guy would be dumb to use his real nationality.
CelebritiesRe: Did Rihanna Bleach? What Do You Say? by chiogo(f): 6:31pm On Jul 20, 2010
Maybe she did bleach herself but all these are pictures, she's still behind the cameras so we really don't know how much lighter she has gotten off the camera.
She's been into the rock thing after her debut album - the hair style and all so I suppose they do make her lighter on set to look more White(LOL) grin

But seriously, they all get lighter as they become more and more famous - Beyonce especially. Tyra was def. not this light during the days of Fresh Prince and Higher Learning.

@Poster, go learn English first, the language of the people you so much admire.

Which abroad have you seen this? Because I've never seen it. Even if it does occur, it is a million times better than taking up all the space in public transportation(buses) with that big a/s/s push walker or whatever it's called even when the child is past the stage of using the thing and is capable of walking.

@DezVienna, I feel you on that R-Kelly thing, you can definitely hear the R-Kelly in that "Neighbors know my name" song. R-kelly was sexy in his prime, still sexy, I suppose but he's too old now. grin I love that picture of him, used to be my profile pic like years ago. haha

Ah, na wa for me sef. See the juicy topic I `m just coming in to meet.

Why Is The Infidelity Of A Woman More Difficult For The Guys?
The answer is simple- The Men have been doing their thing for as long as creation. They didnt think dat the women would ever have the guts to attempt such. I see it more as a case of using a greater thief to nail a thief. The women are beating the men to their game and ouch! it does hurt.
*Thumbs up*

FamilyRe: I Hate Her And Even The Kids by chiogo(f): 4:18am On Jul 19, 2010
Dragging innocent children into some adult mess is just not-so-smart. Like someone said, he better own up to his responsibilities now before it's too late. Trying to meander his way into the kids' lives when they become successful is not going to happen because he'd only be a dead-beat dad.

Lol i know. I just see him as the outsider. Not really creepy as people make him out to be. Yeah Emily prolly sprained her leg or something. When the text came, he knew they'd found out his secret but you could tell, he soo wanted to be the one to tell her.

Hmmmm girl drama. Not so enticing anymore even with the gymnastics grin
It's fun stuff, you should try it sometime. grin

Why do people think Toby is creepy. I like him grin He seems harmless to me. It was sooo irritating when Emily freaked out. I was like, dude is trying to tell you something, even if the something is ewww lol. Last episode was more interesting than the one before. They will have to touch on this episode, next episode coz they girls will definitely wanna talk about Toby's secret.

Is make it or break it interesting? I'm thinking of watching it. I love gymnastics. . .watching that is tongue
He LOOKS creepy. LOL she freaked out cuz of the text, she figured he was about to kill her too. grin But I agree, she shoulda been more calm at least he didn't actually see the text. Freaking out only made him suspicious. I know, I wanna see what happens next. Remember the end where someone erased the last number on the road sign that says the city's population, shows one person is about to die from that city. The only person I could think of is Emily but I doubt she'd die - she's one of the mains.

Make it or break it is interesting, to me anyway. Haha, it's a lotta girl drama though(which I love), there are boys too - who else would the drama be about? And they actually do gymnastics cheesy

i never said they r not intelligent, i said they do not engage in meaningful conversation, u can be intelligent but choose not to apply it to reasonable purposes.
You did imply that most of them who do not visit the sections you mentioned are unintelligent when you said, "there are a few somewhat friendly, helpful, and intelligent ones." That's ignorant of you to think visiting a specific section supposedly makes you intelligent. It's called preference.

Kgdavid:

the guys thread went up to 7 pages but the chics thread is on 20! this should tell u wat u need to know bout NL ladies. they re a narcissistic bunch; mostly rude, with a strong unjustifiable superiority complex who largely do not engage in meaningful conversation and as such are found in large numbers in the romance, fashion, celebrity and of course food sections but are almost completely absent from the politics and technology section. there are a few somewhat friendly, helpful and intelligent ones but there are hardly any who do not consider themselves to be the hottest thing on the planet and therefore behave with the level of ego expected of such.
huh huh huh
It's not that serious. Sheesh! The way people take Nairaland as if their lives depend on it.

What do you think of the last episode? The mystery is becoming clearer. One thing I don't like though, is that after all the action of last episode they wouldn't continue from there next episode but carry on like nothing ever happened. I dunno what kinda suspense they're trying to build with that.

RomanceRe: Why Is The Infidelty Of A Woman More Difficult For The Guys? by chiogo(f): 2:27pm On Jul 16, 2010
Rheinmetal:
Enough of all those westernized notions of marriage that is replete with contradictions. No wonder marriage as an institution is endangered in the so-called advanced societies. We might as well go back to the type of marriage practised by our forebears- the polygamous type and be spoilt for choice
Of course, you'd want that, since it favors men. Polygamy is still in existence so I don't know what your complaint is about, you would have to be living in a sexist nation like Nigeria. It's absurd when Nigerians talk about how bad marriage is in the "advanced societies" just because they experience more divorce cases. Just because divorce isn't rampant in Nigeria doesn't mean the marriages are so great. Many especially the women, are just stuck in the "bondage" and would get out if they could. If they had as much rights as women in America do, you'd be hearing of divorce cases just as much.

Rheinmetal:
Yes marriage is bondage- a gold-gilded cage or haven't you heard. If people takes oath to cherish and to hold, love and uphold, in sickness and health, for better or for worse till death do you part, then be bound by it or don't get married. That is why marriage is a union of the mind as well as the body. No one is forced into it. If a cheating spouse is the "worse" for you in a marital union, am sure the cheating spouse has his "worse" from his significant other, and still stays married to her. So yes, if it the cheating becomes incessant try forgiveness, and if that does not work, drag him along with you for counselling. You vowed to stick with him till death, and is cheating according to your diagnosis not some moral sickness?
Are you also against divorce if it's the woman who's doing the cheating? I bet not. People make those marital vows in the hopes that their partner would reciprocate the gestures and not do anything the other would disapprove of or would hurt the other. Cheating shows lack of respect for one's spouse and it obviously hurts the cheated partner, most times. Talk about incessant cheating too! And what about contracting unwanted STD's from a cheating partner? If you truly love someone, you'd want the best for them. A partner that drags you down with them does not love you in any way. I support divorce in this case.
