During my youth service, I once woke up to a sensation that a hand had grabbed one my hands. I instinctively sank my teeth into the offending hand and dragged it towards the door to see whose it was (the room was in darkness). I then realised it was my other hand.

Seems I slept in a position that restricted blood circulation in one arm. It therefore gave that odd sensation of a being held by foreign hand.
