Can someone tell me am dreaming, you mean after the 70% increase in price of petrol and increase in dollars exchange rate which has led to increase in all products including house rent, some people call still be thinking of increasing pump price.
All the currency swap deal which we thought could help nobody is telling us anything about it again
So where are we going in this countries, minimum salary can't even buy you a bag of rice, businesses are shutting down, entrepreneurs can't even start business as government policy doesn't support small scale business.
With this kind of news while won't our best brains and youth run abroad to look for greener pastures. Imagine working as casual in London (without certificate) in UK and you are paid 10 pounds/hour and you worked for 6 hours per day, That is 60 pounds/day. Working 5 days a week =300 pounds, 4ce a month is 1200 pounds. 40% tax you are left with 800 pounds converting to naira @ 525= 420k.
How many graduates makes that in 2 months.

Point of correction, making £1,200 monthly you pay either a 0% tax or a 24% tax at most. So the figure is between N480-630K. So it's even more pathetic than you described. cry

Health / Re: Help : I Underwent Appendectomy, I Haven't Been The Same Again by chreldb(m): 6:07pm On Apr 06, 2016
I had the same surgery, it took at least seven years for the seasonal stomach pains to go. Mine was also ruptured so it was not a normal appendectomy operation. You will be fine don't worry. But just don't do anything to overwork your stomach for now. However, seeing your doctor is also a good idea.

Thanks to All for your encouraging comments.

Thanks to the MODs for bringing this to front page..I just got back from classes today and seeing this on front page has brought some joy to me...We will hang in there.

For those that have said why don't we get jobs..
The UK is becoming different now.We have tried and we are still trying to get jobs.

Also we are in schools duly certified by NDDC else we won't be here.

Thanks once again

I know exactly what you are going through, ignore those telling you that you are ungrateful they are ignorant. Most of the time it's only Nigerian scholars that face this kind of problem it is so sad. However, what I will advice is that you continue to search for a job that will cater for your living expenses because it likely that you may not get your allowance before the end of your studies. So for now just concentrate on finishing in the next few months and you can fight for your allowance later because it is yours. I know it's not easy because I've been there. Even had it worse than you. You will survive don't worry.

Move on with your life and allow time to heal your wounds. If you don't make a conscious decision to move on you won't heal. The earlier the better. If they don't want to be with you then let them go. Someone better always comes around as long as it was not all your fault. Finally make sure you become a better person in all ramifications after the experience. My 2 kobo. That's if you actually need advice.

Based on my Christian faith and belief, what I have come to like most about Christianity is the power of choice and free will. I talk/preach about my belief and would not force anyone into believing it, in fact of my own accord I can't change anyone.

You don't force anyone but instead you blackmail them with eternal condemnation in fire if they disagree with you. Please spare people from this freewill talk. Afterall if anyone is held at gun point and is robbed of all their possession, they apparently surrendered out of their own freewill even though they had the option of resisting and having their head blown away. How does the logic of not been religious or suffer in hell for eternity differ to the gullible that actually believe that kind of thing?

There was never civilization without religion. Christianity showed you that women are equal to men and should be treated with love and dignity. The enemies of religion, like you promote proliferation of indiscriminate sex including pornography which reduces women to little above animals with no love and dignity. It also increases unwanted pregnancies and you enemies of religion encourage the massacre of those innocent souls in the womb.

Those who molest children are clearly going against the Christian religion...so you can't say it was caused by religion.

The only thing Atheism has ever offered the world is death and destruction. E.g in Soviet Union, North Korea, Cambodia etc.

I'm surprised that no one else has taken you up on this point. There is nothing else I can think of that has denigrated women more than religion. I challenge you to strengthen your claim by defending these parts of the bible in quote.

Deutronomy 22:13-14; 20-21 "13;If any man takes a wife and goes in to her and then turns against her, 14; charges her with shameful deeds and publicly defames her, and says, ‘I took this woman, but when I came near her, I did not find her a virgin,

"20; But if this charge is true, that the girl was not found a virgin, 21; they shall bring out the girl to the doorway of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death because she has committed an act of folly in Israel by playing the harlot in her father’s house; thus you shall purge the evil from among you.

""And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the LovePeddler, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire." (Leviticus 21:9)"

""When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets: then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her." (Deuteronomy 25:11-12)"

""Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean." (Leviticus 12:2)

"But if she bear a maid child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her separation: and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying threescore and six days." (Leviticus 12:5)"

""But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God." (I Corinthians 11:3)

"For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man." (I Corinthians 11:8-9)"

""Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing. But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go." (Judges 19:24-25)"

""Let the women learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression." (I Timothy 2:11-14)"

""If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silvers, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days." (Deuteronomy 22:28-29)"

""Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church." (I Corinthians 14:34-35)"

""Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up." (Hosea 13:16)"

And so on and so forth...... So what is this you say about Christianity bringing about civilisation and gender equality? Because what is in the bible is an absolute contradiction to those claims.

The actors, pinky and brain are super intelligent genetically altered lab mouse that wants to take over the world.

Their popular phrase is "Gee Brain, what do you wanna do tonight?"
"The same thing we do every night, Pinky — try to take over the world!"

This is serious, really really serious...so far i've lost 35 layers in just 4 days to Newcastle (confirmed from post mortem)...I usually contained it before but this strain seems unstoppable with every drugs I've given them. It getting messy here abeg, even the experts seem to have resign to fate but I'm not giving up.

Pls anybody with solution. I can't vaccinate them cos most of them still look sick. It's been a hell of a few days, I know if I go back to the farm 3 woulda died again and that me being optimistic.
Pls help save a brother!

OP so sorry for your losses. from experience and a competent viewpoint I think you made a very terrible mistake. you should have vaccinated the birds as at when due. Vaccinating them now is almost literally medicine after death. Newcastle disease is a viral disease that has no cure to the best of my knowledge but can be prevented via vaccination. I don't mean to scare you but I can only be candid with you. Cull/quarantine as many that show symptoms of the disease in order to protect the stronger ones. I hope your loss will be as minimal as possible but for future reference proper management is key in poultry production. Healthwise make sure you know the vaccination schedule of the birds you are rearing. I cant over emphasise the importance of that. Because if you dont there is a high probability of suffering a terrible loss. I hope all will be well.

Politics / Re: President Jonathan Just Called Himself A "Biologist". by chreldb(m): 10:28pm On Jan 12, 2015

In all English speaking countries of which Nigeria is inclusive a dentist is not classed as a medical doctor. In fact in 2008, Dentists were demanding the right to call themselves by the title 'Dr in the UK and the emphatic response of the British Medical Council was a resounding NO!! and the British medical association totally opposed it.

Ok so you know that dentists are not MDS. I read ur response to me. With all due respect please don't mix professionalism with politics. If you have time read my previous posts you will see I highly doubt GEJs phd. But that's an argument for another day. In summary, dentists are not medical doctors, medical doctors are not scientists except they have a phd. And phd zoologists are both scientists and biologist. Have I looked for ur trouble?
Politics / Re: President Jonathan Just Called Himself A "Biologist". by chreldb(m): 6:41pm On Jan 12, 2015
Eziachi:

You are absolutely right. But what Jonathan should have said if he intended to academical about it was to call himself a wildlife Biologist. Biology is a bit ambiguous because zoology is a subcategory of Biology as you said.
Probably he thought that Biologist sounds cooler than Zoologist grin grin

But,heck, this is an election years, politicians and their supporters will always pick on irrelevant things like whether he is a zoologist or Biologist.

On the contrary I think Jonathan did the right thing. When speaking to a diverse crowd it is better to be professionally generic when referring to your field because only a few or nobody will know what you are saying if you are specific. So a classical or molecule geneticists, molecular biologist, developmental biologist, medical scientist, or the conventional biochemists, microbiologists, botanists or zoologist have every right to refer themselves and be referred to as biologists. Especially in a diverse situation. PS I'm not a Jonathan supporter but I can't sit back and allow science knowledge be sacrificed on the alter of politics and ignorance.

Politics / Re: Civil Servants Threaten Strike Over Proposed Wage Deregulation by chreldb(m): 12:32am On Oct 23, 2014
APContherun:

You guys are so funny. Wage deregulation doesn't necessarily entail salary reduction but a removal of wages and salaries matter from the exclusive list to the concurrent list so that both the FG and state givts determine and decide what they pay their workers. This is against the present practice where wages and salaries ofboth FG, state and LGs workers are fixed by the National Salaries and Wages Commision an agency of the FG. If the move succeds state govts will have their own agencies that will be responsible for fixing workers salaries.
State govts will now fix salaries depending on the economy of the state involved.
Labour knows this move will drastically reduce the powers of the labour unions and that's why they fight.

Some people need to know the difference between deregulation and reduction. My question has been answered. Thanks!

Answer is Wednesday.

Explanation:

If yesterday (note the word 'if') was tommorow (actual day).

Substitute the word "yesterday" for the clause "Wednesday's yesterday" then substitute the word "tomorrow" for the clause "Wednesday's tomorrow" then you get if Tuesday (Yesterday) was Thursday (actual tomorrow) then today would have been Friday. That is to say if Thursday was yesterday then today would have been Friday. Let me stop there before I get confused grin. But i'm pretty sure i'm correct.

Forget about the perverted put bellied lecturers. an academic who has gone through tough times attaining his/her PhD, an academic who has international publications, an academic who might well be a consultant to multinationals, an academic who chose to stay in the the academia not because of money but love for his job and research is who the government thinks it can easily replace. compared to a pseudoacademic who has no publication, has no PhD but illegally and fraudulently claims to have one, who has challenges in communicating in English language, that president Obama the leader of the free world looked upon him with disgust and disdain when they had audience together. This same man who should not never have been president of this great country who has failed to manipulate and deceive intellectuals is the person making this threat? ok lets see how it goes. The government wanted to lie and deceive ASUU but ASUU asked for greater commitment from the government so that a David mark would not come out and say that the "government officials who singed the agreement knew not what they were doing" and so on and so forth. I rest my case for now. The intelligent would know where I am getting at.

Political activists are not meant to checkmate the excesses of government. That does not make them enemies of the government. Every responsible government is aware of this and respects that position of activists irrespective of the fact that they may be a thorn in their flesh. For this reason it is not out of place for a government official to honour events organised by activists be it funerals or social events. In that respect the action of the supporters of the late activists behaved in a myopic and uncivilised manner. What they did was wrong if the reasons they gave for their action is what was reported in this article.
Politics / Re: Black Africans Were The First Europeans, Say Scientists by chreldb(m): 12:31pm On Nov 10, 2013
biafranqueen: I agree with you on that but ancient Europeans were not of the human race until they started to breed with modern man from Africa!

I have an appreciation of your point, but your assertion is a bit extreme and somewhat racist. If I am correct you are referring to Neanderthals. What I know about them is they were a subspecies of Homo sapiens known as Homo Neanderthalensis. You are correct that they actually interbred with modern man. Due to the discovery of Neandethal DNA in some European population. However, there were full fledged Homo sapiens in Europe that migrated from Africa before modern man and Neanderthals started to interbreed. So in the context of that ancient Europeans were Homo sapiens competing with Neanderthals for food, resources and apparently affection grin. As a result of this Europeans in their newly evolved nature violently drove their closely related Neanderthals to extinction to obtain full resource control just as they later attempted with their African ancestors. But that is another story.
Politics / Re: Goodluck Jonathan's PHD Thesis Deposited Online And Accessible Worldwide by chreldb(m): 10:54am On Nov 10, 2013
I personally think that President GEJ does not have a PhD and even if he does he did not get it by merit. Any individual well abreast with the rudiments and intricacies involved in obtaining a PhD could easily see that he does not posses the characteristics of a PhD holder from his disposition, articulation, eloquence and attention to details during his speeches and interviews. I am aware that an individual does not need a PhD to have those qualities. But those qualities are also byproducts of a PhD irrespective of the field of study. However, I may be wrong in my assertion but I find it to much of a convenient coincidence that till date neither his thesis, supervisor/s or his first authored scientific publications have been identified. Obtaining a PhD is somewhat noble and requires a lot of back breaking and hard work that is why real PhD's frown at posers and frauds that falsely flaunt the degree. And insult is added to injury when such posers appear to have questionable intellects. For this reasons, until evidence is shown that GEJ indeed has a PhD, the question will never be allowed to rest.

Nigeria is not on this list because English is the official language of Nigeria. In other words, the sixty countries listed are not on the same league as Nigeria in terms of English proficiency. You would observe that non of the countries listed have English language as their official of first language. If not this list would mean that those listed countries are more proficient in English than countries like U.S.A, Canada, Australia, South Africa and even UK. tongue. Don't get yourselves worked up people! We are not on their level. Listing Nigeria in that category of nations in terms of English proficiency is actually an insult.
